First time in pub very impressed, nice friendly atmosphere, will be back .

Am off to this pub again. Often call when using Metro station close by. Pub used to be stationmasters house but has since extended somewhat sine then Was later bought as small pub when Metro took over as Sleepers and in recent years been taken over the rear greatly extended with a large hall for functions and now quite a going place with events such as Real Ale festival (this weekend which takes place at the rear hall) and a very busy pub at weekends with catering during the week as well as gigs so it building up a reputation. As I live locally don't eat there normally so cannot really comment but good reports on that side of things. Has a bit of a look of the seaside in the sector of the outside at the back and is a place a few trendsetters go as can be seen by those parking there at night and weekends will see how weekend goes b4 giving a review but fact Camera has chosen to go back to the location again makes a good point for the management of the pubs beer selection. Tends to have ample space for parking and I would agree more than adequate wheelchair access though would recommend trying to avoid when it is busy, perhaps a phone call B4 setting out but certainly wortb a visit.

Decent pub right next to metro station and handy for The Eastern Touch Indian restaurant just across the road will go again...

This is a lovely pub next to the metro so, very handy. The food was lovely and the drinks were decent in there. It wasn't what we expected but,that's not always a bad thing. They were very welcoming in there. We went at about 5pm so, it would be nice to see it of an evening

Looking forward to trying sunday lunch £7 before 1pm . As reasonable as that didnt find veg very nice at all. The turnip was bitter , carrots soggy , cabbage mouthful , mash and green beans fine, and meat melt in mouth. Long wait , but was busy.

Very popular bar, great atmosphere, grood food, large selection of drinks, including some real ales. Nice size out door area and function room

Great atmosphere & quirky pub although they should get rid of the net curtains as they atre horrendous!

First walked in and thought it looked lovely. That soon ended . Numerous dirty glasses. None of the staff looked over 18. Tvs had football on which is fine but the volume was ear bursting.. asked them to turn it down on one speaker. They didn't. Sign posts for the toilets are above the bar so you would follow those..... wrong. Toilets were in a corner in between two tables full of people . As u walk in the smell of urine was blinding . Don't think we would re visit .

Once a great pub now it’s a no go area on weekends. Place is absolutely packed out with underage drinkers, kids sneaking in through the rear fire exit in the beer garden. Saw half a dozen people sniffing keys in the beer garden in front of cameras. Only 2 security on so not alot they can do when the majority of punters are drug users. More security needed to be able to take a proactive approach in stamping out these problems.

Service was polite and quick. Venue was clean and tidy. Food was quite good. The beer choice was mediocre, three bog standard cask options and typical draft options of standard lagers. Nothing for craft beer fans. On an uncomfortable note, there was a CCTV camera in the toilet positioned above the urinal which I hope is a dummy or questions to be asked about morality and legality of this.

Used the function room for my birthday venue. Staff helpful during the day to decorate tables etc. Hot and cold buffet very good.Excellent location for public transport and car park. Out door seating area if you want to step out for five minutes break from the dancing. Thank you to the staff for a excellent night.

Well, often had a good night here but haven’t been for a few months and sadly it’s gone down hill. The outside area has vomit and broken glass around that hasn’t been cleaned up. The toilets have been graffitied and the whole place is looking rather tired. They’re still super dog friendly which is a bonus for us.

Absolutely love this place but for some reason, the Guinness tasted like it was overly carbonated, will try again at some point but giving it a miss for now

Great place, jumping on a Friday night. Busy but safe, friendly bouncers on the door, good music too & they have a fab big venue you can hire for a party , with a stage if you wanted a band & the catering, staff & service were brilliant.

Decent atmosphere, good screens for footy and beer prices ok. Only let down by plastic glasses for a fiver pint on busy days😂

Have been today 11/1/24 ordered a double cheese and bacon burger with chips. My friend got the chicken burger with chips, the chips were awful I wouldn't feed them to a dog, not cooked properly and covered in grease. The burgers wasn't much better everything just went straight through me. Definitely won't be Going Back.

Popped in for early evening meal. Best steak pie in years at a great price! Drinks and food all good, recommended. Update, four of us went for lunch and the quality was still good unfortunately all four meals were barely warm, sent back for a quick microwave but still not hot, very disappointed.

Visited twice in early December, once on a busy Saturday night where it was packed but had a very edgy vibe (lads looking for fights with anyone and everyone, my partner witnessed girls doing coke in the toilets and was near enough threatened). Gave it another go for some food the following Wednesday, the 'Pepsi' or 'coca cola' we ordered was either not a proper brand, or had been left sat there and was out of date, it tasted awful. The burger was decent, but the home made chips were swimming in grease. When this was pointed out to the lady at the bar she replied that "nobody else has complained". Won't be visiting again.

Excellent atmosphere & great food & service. Very busy so book a table or you may be unlucky. Well worth a visit & I am sure once you have been you will go again.

Mid week lunch called in the Beggars Bridge and was greated by friendly staff, Pleasantly suprised by the steak and ale pie when I pulled out a piece of steak an inch and a half in size and proper meat in lovely gravy with flakey pastry, very filling. We thought mid week would be quiet but @ 1.30 there was about 16 people in the pub not bad for a Wednesday will definatley be back

Lunch was warm not hot ..... only a few people in pub .... should have been hot straight from the kitchen. Staff great.... drinks great .... atmosphere great 👍

Less than welcoming staff, no Guinness after checking the cellar, and asking for cash rather than contactless. Won’t be back

Food was tasteless no flavour, bar staff was amazing

We went for a private function and the room was too small for the number of people there and the buffet was naff. Frozen quiche, potato salad was tasteless, and considering it was for children as well as adults not enough cakes for everyone. The only thing that was nice was the roast potatoes.

THE MEN'S TOILET STINKS TO HIGH HEAVEN AND TOTALLY A REPULSIVE SMELL

Engagement Party - We had our engagement party at Beggars Bridge in the function room on Saturday 7 October. Absolutely brilliant venue. The staff were excellent, the food was fantastic and the overall experience was really great. All of our guests loved the venue and commented on the decor and how nice it was. I was blown away by how nice the staff were. Really really happy we had our night there. Thoroughly recommend as a venue for your special occasion. John and Lynsey.

Lovely place. Good atmosphere. Sport on TV, with background music. Three cask ales and 6-7 different lagers (why so many?) And another couple of beers on tap. Plenty of spirits to choose from. Food looked good. Prices were a touch cheaper than other places locally. Free parking, if you need it, at metro station next to the pub

We attended a Christening. Venue fabulous staff super helpful and friendly. The food was delicious and catered for everyone's taste. Would definitely go here again.

It was actually a really nice place. I photographed a christening do here, really dark inside but nothing I couldn't handle, nice feel to the place. Absolute nightmare to park there but that's the only draw back. I'll definitely visit on a social level next time.

Very relaxed pub which is brilliant for regulars and tourists. Some colleagues and I tend to visit weekly and love the friendly atmosphere Beggar’s creates. The food is brilliant and great value for money whilst the service is always outstanding. Free parking at the metro car park and there are a few spaces on the street outside. Overall, a great place to visit!

Loved visiting here but since theyve introduced the new menu its not the same . We had the steak meal today and it wasnt as nice as usual x cold chios and peas and only half a jug of sauce .its certainly gone a bit downhill .

Hobgoblin Gold on draft, live sport on the TV and live music too. Also friendly staff and a welcoming decor, make this a great place to spend an evening. 5/5.

Cannot rate the food as we didn't eat here but a great place to visit for a night out. The live entertainment was great and there was plenty of staff on so we didn't have to wait ages to be served at the bar. Definitely recommend and will go again.

Lovely lunch, ‘proper’ home cooked food on a rainy day. Made our cockapoo very welcome with water and treats of his own. Going back this week :)

Food is delicious home cooked. Parking can be a struggle due to only being a small car park nearby for the metro. Do live music evenings and I can't wait to try this.

Nice pub, friendly, food one of the best fish and chips I have eaten. Would definitely go back as it good setting and everyone enjoyed their food compliments to the chef good value for money 👍

I was pretty disappointed with my recent visit to this establishment. First of all, I do have to comment on what a miserable bunch of bar staff this place has. I went here for a quiet couple of pints with some mates and each of the 3 times I went to the bar I was met with the same stern faces. It makes for a very awkward and uncomfortable atmosphere when the staff look angry and unapproachable. I did attempt some small talk with two separate servers, but the blank, intimidating stares and silence made me think twice about doing it again. The service was quick enough, but the cocktails were rushed and didn't taste very good. The price wasn't too bad though, for what you get. The selection of draught options is decent enough, but it could be better in my opinion. The gin and rum selection was good enough. The vibe of the place was not very good, however. My friends and I opted to sit outside for a while to get some fresh air (this was due to the bar seating area being so smelly it was hard to enjoy anything), and we were subjected to the very strong smell of cannabis throughout the time we spent out there. To see the staff repeatedly turn a blind eye to this (illegal) activity is disappointing and worrying. It has nice decor inside the place, and the small bites of food we shared were just alright. The chips were the best thing we tasted, but we did only have a small amount of sharing food. The clientele were mostly quiet and were largely respectful, however, there were more than a couple of instances where a group of men near us were using foul language very loudly, and had equally loud conversations ridiculing the LGBTQ+ community, disabled people, and Holocaust victims. This was very uncomfortable and offensive for me to hear (and I'm sure I wouldn't have been the only one) but they were allowed to continue by the staff who listened to and saw it all. It might have been an idea to call time on them by this point, but I also understand that this group was quite a large and intimidating one, and being that the staff were all quite young, it would have been a very difficult thing to do. I did not say anything to the group for the same reason. It is just a shame that these people have to bring these offensive and cruel opinions with them and subject the rest of the public to them. I hope they grow up soon. Unfortunately, due to all of the above, I won't be going back, and as we discussed upon leaving the pub, neither will my friends, which is a real shame.

Lovely Sunday dinner and only £6 for the early bird special. Beef, pork, chicken or lamb (think lamb is a little bit more). The family has been a few times and it's always nice. Lovely friendly atmosphere too.

Went yesterday, hadn’t been for a long time. First thing I noticed was the smell place stinks. Had one pint then left due to the smell.

Dissapointed, sandwich was made with stale bread & filling was tasteless. Complained but acknowledged with a sorry ! Wont be back

On behalf of my brothers family id like to say a huge thank you to all the staff at beggars bridge. We chose to celebrate my brothers life here as it was his favourite place. The staff were fantastic, extremely helpful and respectful. Thank you to the chef also for the fabulous buffet.

Good pub with a younger feel and clientele, decent Sunday lunch beer is on the pricey side for the north east. Bands are often on plus football.

Can't fault it. Great range of beers and spirits,extensive and well constructed beer garden. Excellent location beside a Metro Station with local shops and Bistros Close at hand. Always busy with a friendly vibe.

Came to Beggars Bridge for a drink with my husband. We haven't been here for a long time. The atmosphere was very friendly and felt safe. There was a good mixture of age groups. The staff were efficient and friendly. The live music was excellent. We have decided to make sure we come to Beggars Bridge on a more regular basis.

Decent pub grub at great prices. Nice atmosphere. Beer garden. Live music. Update: remodelled more modern and clean feel. Food still great and excellent service.

Got a chicken and bacon salad was ok at first then a felt like a had grit in me teeth dont know weather the salad hadn't been washed properly

Nivea traditional pub set up, beer garden with plenty of room and private booths available, I'd maybe day for the salad a bit more dressing and a chopped up boiled egg? Add some croutons? Staff were very friendly and the food was well presented 👍🏻

Really nice inside, good choice of drinks, was looking for a quieter night though I did visit on a bank holiday weekend and it was really busy, will be going back as was impressed with how it looked inside, and a decent choice of lagers, and was a nice pint of Stella.
