The staff in Cafe Nero were superb. The service they provide and the skill they have is excellent. Felt like I was being served by professional batistas.

Popped in for a coffee to take away served by a Lady called Helen who was so friendly and helpful. On leaving she was taking an order from a frail old lady she was so helpful and told her to take a seat and she would bring her drink over. You don’t get that at Starbucks. Well done Helen and keep up the good work you do make a difference.

Staff are brilliant, but the place could do with a huge makeover asap

My favourite high street coffee chain. I just like the blend here. The light bites and nibbles are very nice but are a little pricey. The pay off is that the food offering is very tasty and a little bit exotic compared to other retailers. The ambience is usually relaxed and you can enjoy your coffee in peace if you wish

Popped in for a quick coffee and immediately wished I hadn't bothered. Served by a big fella , dressed in shorts, wearing glasses, heavily tattooed. What a horrible person, thought it was funny to make 'joking 'remarks about my age and weight. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I think he thinks he's very funny and his 'banter' brings the punters in, it doesn't. Never coming back again and telling everyone I know to avoid.

This place is amazing all because of a worker by the name of Jade she was caring and helpful. It was really busy and she was working alone with the manager sitting down and sorted every customer with a smile and efficiently a massive thank you to her even with an extremely rude customer she delt with it with a smile. Thank you we will be back.

Really great food and drink! Jade who served me was really friendly and I felt so bad for her because she was by herself and she went above and beyond for me and my friends. The coffee was lovely, as was the cake.

Big guy with glasses and tattoos served me with a terrible I don’t want to be here type attitude. Called someone a tot whilst going for a break either a customer or the other member of staff. Horrible bloke with a stinking attitude!

WOW! Can't thank the staff enough for what turned out to be an unforgettable finish at the great north run this year - flash floods, 60k plus people all trying to get out of SS and then the metro closed! The staff were over ran but remained polite and welcoming, cafe was crammed but they rose above the chaos and served promptly and efficiently - THANK YOU for providing hot coffee when we needed it :-)

Always love Nero's, grabbed a nice coffee and bite to eat waiting for a meeting, not too noisy, coffee was nice almond Croissant was tad squashed, and resembled something like a tasty 🙄, hence the point drop. But lovely place, coffee best in that street.

Would give it 5* if it wasn't for smokers as you pass going in and some new staff aren't as friendly as before

Stroppy, rude staff with bad attitude. My wife ordered drinks and then server proceeded to argue with wife about pupperchino and having to pay for this. Sorry but every other cafe Nero either gives these free or adds to cost to our drinks, which were covered by vouchers. When wife refused to pay the server threw the pupperchino in the bin instead of just offering it as it was made up already. We could then hear them chuntering away to themselves from the other side of the cafe. Very rude.

Despite being a long time customer of this coffee house, I'm afraid I'll think long and hard before going back. Whilst not having a problem with well behaved dogs, I do object to dogs sitting on the seats ( resulting in the seat being left quite dirty ) and being fed from the table and others being allowed to roam around by their inconsiderate owners. Given that this is an establishment where food and drink are consumed, I find this lax attitude to hygiene very disconcerting, even more so considering recent events. Although the dogs themselves can hardly be held at fault, their owners' behaviour needs addressing and Neros themselves should lay down some ground rules.

After a funeral service it was nice to relax with a caramel latte served by a trainee Katie

Love the coffee here and the staff are really good but the whole experience is being spoiled by the number of dogs and their inconsiderate owners. Whilst not objecting to well behaved dogs, it is annoying when you are trying to enjoy a coffee and have a conversation and dogs are barking at each other - if they can't behave, take them out. Even more annoying are the owners who sit their dogs on the seats, do they not appreciate people have to sit there ?

The staff are amazing, I spilt my coffee everywhere and they were more concerned about me than the mess. They cleared it up and replaced my coffee all with a smile. I am in there regularly and always enjoy whatever I have to eat and drink. The staff are all friendly and it has a lovely atmosphere.

Having recently visited your branch in Newcastle Eldon Square they could learn a lot from this busy little branch. Staff here are efficient and friendly and service is good.

Visiting South Shields it was nice to find Caffe Nero as they are mostly closed where I live. I prefer Nero over Starbucks or Costa. Coffee was good as eere muffin.

Great coffee as is always with them. The South Shields Nero is lovely, a very relaxing place to go, however on my visit this time of reviewing my last visit, it was extremely busy, every table & seat taken and as its small and tables very close to each other, frankly when that busy its not what you would call relaxing, but still they do the best coffees, but just 3 stars.

Caffè Nero lovely place for a nice coffee and tea. The staff are very friendly would recommend it to anyone.

Found it pleasant, service quite good considering it was a busy time, in my opinion and based on what I saw it seemed a well run unit and would recommend it to my friends if they were going to South Shields

Lovely coffee in a relaxed atmosphere

This caffe neros is the best I been in so far, the staff are friendly, and I mean genuinely so not oh I am at work I have to be nice kind of friendly. My dog is a bit of a sod but still as soon as Max goes in he is given, again genuine, attention from everyone. They don't judge, I have tattoos all over my face, am homeless, and smell of wet dog and bonfires most of the time but they haven't commented on either thing and I believe this is because it is of no importance to them, because they don't judge. Oh and if the lady who works there with the amazing eye make up on you will also see a beautiful person, inside and out. And she makes an awesome caramel cappuccino. Honestly go, it's possibly in the top 3 neros I been to in country and I change campsites every few weeks or months and have been to a lot of them. Shows how good I personally think it is as I believe this is my first review for neros, maybe anywhere.

Cup of coffee was nice but apparently I stood in wrong place even though the two before me were already being served so the waitress went on to serve someone else before me and had me hanging around for far to long. She then looked at me and said "Sorry are you in the que? You're in the wrong place, next time que from that side"... as if there was suddenly an invisibility cloak over me because I didnt stand at her preferred place. Coffee was nice, Cafe is nice! Waitress was rude and given it wasnt even 9am I can only imagine what the rest of her day will be like. Shame I wont be returning.

usually enjoy coming here for coffee but today assistant was emptying bins then sorted dishwasher clean dishes out without having washed her hands I requested to a different cup as she had handled one other assistant was going to give me this is reason for only 3 stars

Best coffee shop in South Shields. Very friendly staff, clean and comfortable shop. Always a pleasure to sit and watch the world go by with a lovely cup of coffee.

Uriges gemütliches Cafe mit fairem Preis, nettem Personal und wirklich gutem Kaffee. Bequeme Sessel direkt am Fenster. Wer es ruhiger will, sitzt ein Stockwerk höher mit nochmehr Sitzmöglichkeiten.

They was a guy who was sat working in the Cafe and the woman was very abrupt to the gentleman because he hadn't bought a drink in a while. It got into a heated argument and was embarrassing. Won't be going back again..

This is my favourite high street coffee chain. I like their coffee blend. The staff are friendly, brisk and efficient. The sandwiches are a bit pricey but no worse than any other chain. We usually have the porridge 😃

Has a very modern and contemporary style in the place. Drinks are delicious and the cafe even reminds me of the central park cafe from friends

Best Coffee shop in South Shields

Dirty place it used to be nice a couple of years ago. Coffee was ok 5 out of 10 and a slice of old carrot cake that was stale me and a friend spat it out it was unedable.

Nice but very expensive compared to lots of independent coffee shops nearby.

Relaxed and friendly atmosphere and usual great coffee. Increasingly a fan of their hot chocolate too.
