George Inn in Charnwood

The smoked haddock fillet with a mornay sauce topped off with a poached egg and asparagus was a delightful lunch all expertly cooked and presented, coupled with this a superb selection of fine ales and what more would anyone ask for, the staff are professional/friendly and well versed with everything on the menu

I was recommended to visit this pub & I was not disappointed. The best pub meal I’ve had in a very long time. Great food, great service from the staff & set in a cosy pub. Looking forward to visiting again soon.

We thought we'd try Sunday lunch for a family lunch mainly because it was half way between us. What a good decision! We got there early so were shown to the lovely cosy bar by the friendly staff and shown to our seats at the alloted time. We all chose the Sunday roasts, beautifully cooked and plenty of it with loads of fresh veg. Staff seemed really young were but attentive and obviously well trained and kept us topped up with drinks in non pushy manner. Puddings , followed by coffees, again all excellent and well served and a thoroughly pleasant experience. We will obviously return but will book early as we can now see why it's so popular

We have just enjoyed a beautiful lunch at The George. We have lived in the area a few years now and are blessed with quite a few nice eating spots but this is right at the top. Wonderful food, attentive friendly staff and just a warm cosy pub. We look forward to our return.

Oh my word the Chef excelled himself yesterday, my pork was delicious. Served by the best team ever. Food was hot beautifully presented, they were so busy but nothing was to much trouble. Excellent all round, Lucy you are fa, as is Val and the rest of the team.

My husband & I just can’t get enough of this place. The food is absolutely outstanding!!!!!! We have never ever tasted food that is so delicious!!!!! We’ve tried a few things on the menu & everything is absolutely superb!!!!! Also all the staff are wonderful, friendly & welcoming & the interior is beautiful. Unfortunately the Sirloin Steak had an awful lot of fat on it and what bit off meat there where was very tough and chewy. Told the waitress and think it’s disgusting that they still charged full price considering how expensive the steak meal is. All the steak was left after a bite size by myself and my daughter who agreed it was tough. Been here a lot this year and to be honest I don’t think I will be back in a hurry. Very disappointing night.

Oh my word the Christmas menu is out. What a great menu of course I had to go for the Turkey , Mum went Sea Bass both were full of flavours hot beautifully presented absolutely delicious . Service was courteous polite and prompt as always is . Great all round

The rudest reception ever! We’ve never been here and were looking forward to it. However, as we entered the restaurant a lovely waitress greeted us and we asked for a table (there were at least 4 empty, but may have been reserved). A young man then called out towards us with an abrupt no’! Nothing else, no polite ‘I’m sorry we’re fully booked’ and more disappointingly he he no intention of even bothering to look around to see if any tables were near finishing. It was 1:10 so still another 50 minutes left to order. What appalling customer service. The waitress even acknowledged his behaviour by saying sorry. I’d suggest you get him retrained on how to speak to customers!!

Perfect for a quiet drink after a winter walk or a gourmet meal for a special occassion. Our favourite place to eat, drink and socialise. All of the staff/management are incredibly friendly and always happy to help.

We booked a table for 4 for Saturday the 26th August at 1 pm , My partner and I ordered a starter and the four of us ordered a main course. The starter a Prawn and crayfish cocktail was tasty and plentiful but served in a half pint beer mug and knife and fork were provided!!. At 2 pm our friends and ourselves had not been given our main course, when questioned we were told that because we had ordered a starter our table had gone down the list . My partner and I had ordered herb crusted haddock , crab and leek sauce new potatoes, vegetables. Imagine our horror when under the fillet of fish was broccoli, parsnip, shredded cabbage, courgette, carrot, red onion , hardly the accompaniment with fish.

Our first time here. Service was friendly and efficient. Food very good, roast potatoes could have been crispier but overall satisfied with meal.

Good food, pub has a nice atmosphere and the staff are very friendly. Plenty of free off-street parking too.

We took my son & his fiancé for a meal here & was blown away!! The food was absolutely outstanding, we could not fault a thing. The staff were friendly & inviting & the interior beautiful. We can’t wait to return!

We met up with a group of friends at The George today. It was our first visit and everyone was impressed with the welcome and level of service. The food quality was excellent. Great beers. We will be returning again for another get together.

Went to The George for a family birthday after another local venue refused to take a large booking! Glad we did as it was absolutely superb! Sunday lunch was really good, the platter is huge but well worth the food coma afterwards! The staff were brilliant and attentive and couldn’t have done more for us. Brilliant food and service. Upon this left and drove to a warm welcoming Gelsmore, Coleorton asked to sit in outside area, waitress bought us menu and gave us drinks ordered, had a excellant meal with perfect service. Undoubtley the George Inn at Coleorton serves good food we've been many times since being a resident in Coleorton for 17 years but the mangement appears to have aggogrant rules towards customers when they don't want any more it seems they only want booked in customers any others seeking meals can go away. A very negative attitude you would think they would welcome the increase in customers and revenue evidently not. We call this a "disease of hospitality" that some establishments here can suffer from compared to abroad. We have experienced this before so based upon last evening will never frequent the George Inn Coleorton again with present mangement. Coleorton Resident

Got a last minute Sunday lunch booking. Beef was rather dry and potatoes too on the crispy side. Partner had a ham/gammon which was delicious so would get this instead. Staff were friendly.

Excellent food and service we had the veggie starting platter. We are not veggie but it was the best meze type meal I have ever eaten. Still digesting it bring on the main.

This pub is within walking distance from our lovely Air BnB accommodation. Long drive on our first day so wanted something on the doorstep of our accommodation. So pleased we made the decision, really lovely, welcoming and enthusiastic team and extensive menu of classics and innovative choices and specials. Steak cooked to perfection and the best Salmon fillet (with a cucumber and dill sauce), so good I had it again on the second night. Sadly, no room for desert but they all looked amazing from what we saw pass our table. Lucky village to have such a gem on your doorstep and have added as a 'must' to our accommodation recommendations.

Of the four of us eating two really enjoyed their meals, the other two were not overwhelmed with the quality or taste. What really put me off was that none of their staff wore face coverings although the tables were suitably distanced from each other.

We visited on spec, just as they opened at 5pm on a Thursday. We always have a bit of a debate - George Inn (best beer) or Gelsmoor (best food). On this occasion, we decided on the George, basically because we want to support our local pubs, and we’ve already tried the Gelsmoor post Covid. I have to say, the drink AND THE FOOD, was fab! Good service, well spaced tables, good safety procedures. We’ll be back really soon!

Myself and my family went for a Sunday Lunch here and it was absolutely lovely!! Very warming and friendly staff who took good care of us. Food was gorgeous, really nicely presented, the meat wasn’t tough at all, and generous portions too; delicious bread and butter pudding for dessert as well! Recently went for lunch with a friend and really couldn't fault anything. Great safe and socially distanced surroundings and very friendly and efficient staff and service. I had the herb crusted haddock in crab and leek sauce and it was perfectly cooked and delicious, my friend had liver and bacon and said it was perfect. Baileys bread and butter pudding is the best ever and tiramisu was light and delicious. I will return and although it's a little more expensive than the rest it's well worth every penny. Roughly £20 for 2 courses you do get what you pay for, fresh and delicious food.

Been out all morning ,fancied lunch. Wasn’t disappointed , nice rural setting , good choice of food.COVID aware , easy to order drinks & get food.Steak pie was wonderful added the stilton ( needed a bit more to be honest) but filling meal.Nice beer and spotlessly clean.

COVID-19 doesn’t prevent the George from serving good food with a smile. Super lunch menu, great staff and they deal with the requirements necessitated by C-19 with ease. Very welcoming and good vegetarian options.

Little gem, the best crusted fresh fish dish you could eat, I would definitely recommend this dish! My husband had the steak medium rare, which he said melted in his mouth. We felt safe even though was fully booked.

Myself and my family went for meal to the George on Monday. it was really clean very well set up with strict Covid measurements in place. The food was lovely and we all enjoyed our visit and will definitely be back.

Enjoyed a delicious lunch here when taking a break from a long car journey. Only five minutes off the M42 south, so didn’t take us very far out of our way. Very well organised from a COVID point of view. Food was lovely and the light bite menu certainly filling enough for lunch. Staff were very friendly and attentive.
