WENT THERE FOR LUNCH MIDWEEK. STAFF VERY HELPFUL AND FRIENDLY, CHOSE HAM EGGS AND CHIPS. HAND CUT CHIPS, BUT UNDER COOKED, AND OILY. HAM WAS FINE, EGGS COULD HAVE BEEN DONE A LITTLE MORE, BUT THAT'S POSSIBLY DIFFERENT FOR EVERYONE. PROBABLY NOT A PLACE TO RETURN TO, WOULD HAVE EXPECTED A BETTER EXPERIENCE.

We are new to the area, and have been trying various local pubs' Sunday roasts, this one we will not be returning too. The young staff were accomodating and pleasant, but that does not make up for awful food. We had 2 roasts one chicken and one beef. The beef arrived not in slices as is usual for cooked beef but in chunks?? The chicken arrived in strips. All arrived at the table 10 mins after ordering and when apparantly the kitchen opened at 1pm. Microwave sprung to mind, especially with Sainsburys opposite. Beef was awful, full of gristle and I complained, no apology but an offering of chicken was suggested, I agreed as I was hungry. This was not brought out in time as I went up to the bar to pay and still no chicken. Dont bother, try the Unicorn in Marden vastly superior in quality and service. We wont be going back here, oh unless we want our boots mended with the beef.... appalling....................

Not great experience. Turned up around 5pm asking for table for 2. It wasn't busy. I think we were only ones ordering. Was asked to take a seat by lady behind bar who said she would bring out menu. The menu never showed up. I went back to the bar which was desserted. A lady who was just leaving offered to take our order which was nice of her. Whilst waiting for our meal all we could hear was a Liverpudlian lady shouting. The Sunday roast was nice so no complaint there. There were various other people including staff walking around shouting and swearing. Just not a nice experience. Not professional. It was better when I went a few years ago but apparently there has been a change of management. I think it needs to change again. Don't feel that I would want to return.

Apparently the pub had recently come under new management, we were met by a young man, my friend had reserved a table so we were shown where to sit. The meal was ok and our waitress was very sweet. When we got the bill for our meal it had OLD LADIES written on the top, we may not be in our prime but we are mobile and fit! We challenged them about it on the way out and they did apologise, but needless to say we won’t be going back there.

We had a group of 10 plus 3 infants and booked in for Sunday roast. The staff were attentive in organising our large booking and made sure to give us a time slot where they could give us the best service. We asked for children's meals to come out first and they came out quickly and we're delicious. Same with the adult meals everyone thoroughly enjoyed. A very delicious roast!

We visited today with our newborn, for a Sunday lunch with our Grandparents. The atmosphere was calm and friendly. We all got the lamb Sunday roast, it was delicious. Came with a lovely helping of vegetable. The cauliflower cheese was delicious and everyone was really impressed with the cuttings and amount of lamb. For dessert we had the homemade chocolate brownie and fruits of the day crumble(plum and apple). Really delicious and could tell it was homemade, fresh, hot, light but filling. Prices reasonable, spent about £20-25pp and this was drinks, main and dessert, quality of food and service was well worth our visit.

I visited the pub today and had the chicken, bacon & mushroom pasta cooked by Saffron. I’m not much of a pasta eater but this dish completely converted me! It was the most delicious meal I’ve had in a long time and the home made garlic bread was the perfect side dish. A definite must for good if in the area. I’ll certainly be visiting again for more food. 5 stars and compliments to the chef!

Booked a table for sunday lunch via the website, arrived and told the bar man we had booked but was advised to 'just sit anywhere' we knew lunch was'nt served until 1pm so sat down to wait. By 12.55 when no menus had appeared & no one had come to the table to take an order we were on the verge of giving up and going elsewhere when a table near us was served with their food. I spoke to the waitress & expained we had checked in & asked for a menu to be told 'we are only serving chicken or beef roast today'. We ordered one of each and were advised it would only be 10 minutes as our car pk payment was running out. After 20 mins we asked agan & were told 'its just coming' We finally got the meals. The vegetables were all lovely unfortunately the meat was awful! The chicken was under cooked & all but the outer layer was still pink. The beef was the toughest meat we have ever had. We did inform the barman on paying but he didnt seem concerned and we didnt have enough time left on our parking ticket to make more of it. A VERY DISAPPOINTING MEAL!

We visited family and decided to eat out at the G&D yesterday evening. We had a nice table and enjoyed some nice wine, beers and lovely service. All was well until we got on to the food. The starters were OK, mediocre. The mains were less OK. The scampi looked overcooked and came with an additional accompaniment - a hair, we think human but perhaps belonged to the dog sitting in the upstairs window - who knows... the burger was dry and overcooked, the prawn platter salad was barely passable as a summer salad, the lasagne was OK. When we complained about the hair which had been retrieved, the poor waitress was sent out to apologise and say it might have been hers, when it clearly wasn't. Shame on you landlady for not having the decency to apologise yourself rather choosing to blame your staff! Poor form, bad hosting. Do yourselves a favour and go elsewhere.

My partner and I went to my home village Headcorn to enjoy the atmosphere with the Headcorn people. Sadly this wasn’t the case in this pub at all. We should have guessed it when on a Friday eve the pub had very few customers in the bar. Barman friendly and attentive, sadly for the owner this didn’t apply to her and her partner. After buying a drink from the bar and chatting to the barman, suddenly from a dark corner of the pub an angry figure came out in a aggressive manner, hands flying with the words “stand back from the bar” we were waiting on our change! Taken by surprise we realised she was taking measures to protect her staff from (Covid 19). That’s fine, but, handling monies, using till, pouring drinks, opened wine bottles, using soft drinks gun, ALL cross contamination and NO HAND WASHING OR SANITIZER was apparent. Finally after discussing this to the owner after being told to stand back, she then in a frustrated angry manner, shouted her rules, if you don’t like it go to the white horse pub or take these pub keys. We only wanted a beer and a glass of wine not a entire pub and contents.Well we did what she requested and stood back, as far back as the White Horse Pub, down the Rd. Had a great reception with, owners, staff and the locals. NOW THEY GOT IT RIGHT, hand sanitisers were present. As was a fantastic village pub atmosphere. Full of local Headcorn people. Supporting a local friendly business. Who in return, understanding the circumstances, had taken precautions against cross contamination and still provided a happy, welcoming social environment. George and Dragon, take a positive from this, sad to see a local pub being destroyed by bad Management and social skills.

So we turned up at approximately 7.45pm, stood and waited to be seated, finally seating ourselves as the lady behind the bar totally ignored us, eventually I went up to the bar to enquire whether our order would be taken at the table or if I needed to order it at the bar only to be told they didn’t serve food on a Sunday evening, so we left, embarrassed and hungry. Artisan Friday takes place with breakfast being served between 09:00 - 12:00.

We calle din here and explained we were very limited on time due to a scheduled visit nearby and asked if they could help with food quickly. It was no problem and it arrived in minutes, with drinks. Nice staff, lovely food and perfect for our needs.

Lunch out at the George and Dragon. A really nice example of a country pub. Real Ale and fantastic food. We originally went for just a main course Sunday lunch but on seeing the menu decided to go the whole hog. Really glad we did, the food was amazing. The only way to describe the restaurant is imagine sitting at a 1940's kitchen table. This.is certainly a place to return to just to try the rest of the menu. Really nice staff and very helpful. I can only thank my brother for moving to Headcorn. Great excuse to go back.

Wow, whomever said that this place gets their food at a Cash & Carry has got to be from a competing restaurant! Totally no bearing on the meal we had today. Delicious, fresh home-made leek soup garnished with wild garlic leaves (nice touch!) followed by outstanding local sausages on a generous portion of sinfully good mash swimming in a pool of tasty gravy. Wowza! We'll be back. I spoke for a while with the staff here.. they care passionately about food, obtain a lot of locally sourced produce and meat, use bread from a local bakery... they're doing everything right. And yes, they do have Vegan options, but they do justice to the meat dishes they offer, too. What's wrong with catering to a variety of palates? Also the vibe was friendly and the furnishings funky/quirky. We had a great time and are planning to return.

We had had a long wonderful day at Headcorn Aerodrome, we were tired and hungry. Then we found the George & Dragon in Headcorn. Another great find. Lovely friendly service and terrific food. Would go again.

This used to be a great place with home cooked food now just another generic pub with only passable meals obviously sourced at local cash and carry

We went here for dinner whilst staying in the area. Staff were very nice and the pub is very unique. Food was ok. Not the best country pub food I have had but it was very reasonably priced.

A lovely modernised pub with excellent food and atmosphere in a pretty village with great service. The garden in the summer is particularly good and parking is easy and plentiful

This is a very welcoming pub/restaurant on Headcorn High Street in Kent. During the summer there is a patio to the rear with several tables with sun shades. During the winter the inside is more tempting with a large open fire. The venue is extensive covering roasts, steaks, curries, salads, jacket potatoes, vegetarian and children's meals. Good selection of beers, wines and ciders. Service was good. So far we have had three excellent meals and one that was less good (chef must have been off). Reasonable value for money. Our main enticement is that you can take in your well behaved dog to selected parts of the pub and on the patio. Whenever we find ourselves in Headcorn we make a visit there because Ruby can come too.

We are here with family on Sunday. We hadn’t booked and turned up at 2.45pm so weren’t sure if we would get a seat but we did and it was lovely. The beef was cooked perfectly as were the veg and so was the pork. Highly recommend for a Sunday lunch. The desserts were also very good and all at reasonable prices.

A party of 4, 2 of us had Fish & Chips and both were up in the night with the squitters. My wife was really ill with vomiting. We had only snacked during the day and all eaten various food. I can only put it down to the fish they had in the pub.

This is no ordinary pub grub! Huge selection of home cooked food, it was difficult to choose but I opted for a gorgeous vegetable lasagne! I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of vegan options, unusual in this part of Kent! Staff were welcoming and friendly and I loved all the quirky decorations. Will definitely be returning!

UPDATE… This store has been run into the ground, the lovely staff members have all left, one very nice young man “sacked” for a pathetic reason. We now go to Sainsbury’s and buy large rolls and fillings and make our own. What can one say.... it’s a big roll with filling. Staff mostly friendly. Can run low on fillings towards the end of the day.

Chilston Manor hotel is a lovely hotel with friendly staff but I and my husband were very disappointed with what they call a luxury afternoon tea…we had three little finger sandwich's with hardly any filling in them….dry scones…what was nice was the sausage roll,we had to ask for the tea as it didn’t arrive, when it did it was stewed & strong…will be returning NO !!!!

The food was good to be fair but the main reason for the review is to compliment the staff and in particular Sharon H. Such a lovely warm lady who always has a smile on her face and makes you feel so welcome! Many thanks Alex
