Wow what can I say I gpt recommend by a lad i work with who lives in the area said to try and I'm not disappointed what so ever chips and fish cake was the best I've had in ages I work local to here and this is my now go to fish and chop shop

Just wow! Double cooked chips 🤤 and fish freshly cooked to lovely deep brown batter ! Proper mushy peas. And tasted amazing. Saw a guy order a special , looked like a giants portion 🫠 again all fresh. Cannot rate this place enough 😍

best chips i have had nice and brown not the soggy crap you get at most chip oils £2,70 however was asking a bit for a bag of chips .this will not put me off i will save up and go again

Called for a fish cake butty and a few chips. Chips were very bitty, but the few decent chips there were tasted nice. However, the fish cake was a complete let down! The fish inside was just huge amounts of minced white fish! I’ve lived in Yorkshire all my life and I’ve never had a fishcake/fish turnover like this, it was inedible! The guy frying was a happy, chirpy fella but the two women serving were really slow! One especially was really miserable and was just constantly watching out of the door whilst scowling at anyone coming to the shop.

Had to give this place a second chance ...so glad I did .everything about the meal was perfect. My new favourite fish and chip shop....

Travelled from Leeds after reading reviews and watching rate my takeaway. Was expecting great things and certainly wasn't disappointed. The portains were huge, fish, chips and peas for under a tenner, great value. Visited on a Friday dinner time and they were queueing out of the door. Suppose that says it all really.

I must admit that although the reviews were good the photos didn't inspire me with confidence. How wrong could I be. The chips were just like the fish shop chips I remember from the 1960s, the best I've had in decades. The fish was so tasty, big flakes, crispy batter and massive. This is now officially my favourite fish and chip shop.

Fantastic food great value for money

A usual busy day working for the NHS. But my job brought in the area of this place I wanted to try. The fish and chips were as I expected infact the fish was very big and tasty, unfortunately the lady that served me was holding a conversation with someone else she knew obviously a local and regular but when I had to ask for salt and vinegar the salt was just added to one spot she didn't even look what she was doing grabbed my money and no thank you,so some of the beautiful fish was salty just bad service and spoilt good quality fish and chips.

I've been here before and it was the best fish and chips I've ever had. But tonight, we 100% got frozen chips. They were all scabby and hard. Not sure if it's changed hands but definitely not going back.

First time but loved it - good traditional Haddock - regular is huge - cooked in Beef dripping and they only use butter for the bread -my daughter has a rapeseed allergy so this was perfect for us - nice banter with the staff and it's a busy place but it has a large carpark around the side and picnic tables for when the weather's good - looks very inviting from the outside too with flower displays - very clean and cooked to order - open lunch and tea time every day during the week and Saturday lunch and was cheaper than the other fish n chips we have frequented previously - will definitely be our go to fish n chips shop in the future - hands down beats the competition

Fish was great sorry can't say same for chips, but that is only my opinion. Tried there scallops and would give them 8 out of 10.

An iconic takeaway chippy for enthusiasts of fish and chips. Small shop but extremely busy - cash or bank transfer only - no cards. Limited menu. Fish and chips £8.50, Yorkshire fishcake £2.90 - sausages and potato scallops also available but unsure of the price. The portion is good for the price and very tasty. The batter is darker than most but that doesn't affect the taste. For me, the batter scraps were sensational (and free) Well worth a visit.

This had been on my list for quite some time, and finally got to visit yesterday, and it did not disappoint! Everything was freshly cooked, the fish and batter were just gorgeous, the portions are huge. Excellent value for money. Would definitely recommend 👌

My son brought me fish n chips home for tea, n wow what treat, this is the best fish n chips I’ve eaten in such a long time. The chips do look burnt but honestly they are amazing, the curry sauce is very tasty . I won’t be going anywhere else in future, only down fall is your not close by but it’s worth the drive for these. Thankyou

Twice i have been now and both times chips and fish are overcooked. soon as i got them out of the packet they looked burnt even dogs didn't want them. Not a patch on Blue Marlin On Batley Road.

Heard great things about this chippy so drove over from York to try it today, had to queue for about 10 mins on Saturday lunchtime about 12.45 which is a good sign, ordered fish & chips X2 only £16 very reasonable,.decent portions, the fish was so overcooked it should be called George A green crematorium, the chips weren't too bad but that fish was so overcooked it was tasteless and we threw them both away, we would have taken them back if it wasn't for the queue size so we won't be going back again. Absolutely awful. 👎

We came here because of rate my takeaway as you may know as the YouTuber but everything was not as good as he described. Will not be going here again. The food was not as tasty as descpripted and was a bit overdone.

Bought fish cake and chips and 2 fish, the fish cake of mine was so dry and the batter was very chewy its like the fish cake had been refried. And I do know what that taste like....Also how the owner speaks to his colleagues is outrages, especially when walking off so the whole customer can hear him very belittling. Won't be going back there.

Best fish and chips I've ever had. Fish was very tasty and the batter was lovely. The chips were delicious aswell. Gravy and curry sauce were top notch. Shame it's a 4 hour 30 minutes drive away but next time I'm in the area I'll be sure to pop in for round 2.

Good value for money. We had haddock x 2, chips and fishcake with scraps. Best fishcake I have ever had. The haddock was really tasty and cooked to perfection. Chips were a little dark on the outside and very slightly under done in the middle. Well worth a visit

Great traditional type chippy, Staff were chatty and locals lol, benches outside if you can’t wait to get home , and the fish all I can say is best and thickest fish I have had chips were great well cooked and fluffy if your passing Wakefield stop in you won’t be disappointed and cheap compared to most I know

Enjoyed an amazing order of fish and chips last Saturday! I got to the shop at 1:45 (close at 2) and was told they had closed early because it had been so busy, but when I explained I was in the US they made an exception and I am lucky they did! The fish was cooked to perfection and the chips were dynamite (especially with some scraps on top). Thanks again for a great lunch!

Went to this chippie after seeing it on a Facebook review. Wow it did not disappoint, everything cooked fresh. Great value for money , friendly staff, food tasted great ,chips how they should be . Good parking . Will definitely be going again. Highly recommended

Travelled from Bury Lancashire to sample this chippy after seeing it on rate my Takeaway. Wasn't disappointed massive fish cooked in beef dripping has was the chips. Love my beef dripping fish and chips bit rare in Lancashire. So I don't mind travelling, I will return at a later date 10 out of 10

Delicious fish n chips in Wakefield, you have to try the special fish n chips. We are from South Shields and we know good fish n chips and this is definitely as good as anything we get in the north east. Yorkshires finest!

Fish & Chips. Chips were burnt tasting & dry. The fish fillet had chunky flakes but again was dry due to being overcooked. Shame, I had high hopes considering the previous reviews. One to avoid.
