We were celebrating or 56th wedding anniversary and stayed the night here. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the young lady who served us our evening meal (Indie) was very knowledgeable about the wines available. We stayed in one of the newly refurbished rooms in the stable block. Very comfortable. The evening meal was excellent and enhanced our celebration. I highly recomend this hotel & restaurant.

We booked the private dining room for a surprise 60th birthday with friends and we were not disappointed. The room is so cosy and we were able to put up a few decorations for the occasion. From the moment we arrived all the staff were attentive, friendly & warm and kept popping in to make sure we were all ok. Our meals were delicious & the desserts divine. We even managed a slice of birthday cake which the staff delivered whilst singing happy birthday. A lovely evening was had by all, especially the birthday boy!

We often go to either Odiham or Churt for a roast dinner so I took a gamble and decided to book it for our family Boxing Day. I usually cook but wanted a break however was slightly nervous about what it would be like. There were some highs and lows. Negatives The booking process took quite a long time, over a number of weeks. I was had put in orders for the 3 children in our group but then could not add these to the pre booking system, but was told I could order on the day for them. Which was fine, but I was also not told that the roast I had requested would not be available……even though they were cooking roast turkey. Had I known I would’ve ordered the set menu for my young teen. I wouldn’t say it was that busy in the restaurant and the staff were often waiting around, but service was slow and relatively inattentive. The starter was totally underwhelming. No cucumber. 4 prawns and a bit of iceberg lettuce for the prawn starter. The main was ok but was essentially a slab of turkey and stuffing, one half parsnip, one half carrot, some Brussels sprouts, one pig in blanket. Dessert was a bit the same. One Xmas pudding came out cold and one lukewarm warm. The Black Forest option was essentially chocolate log, a Black Forest juice and some mushed up fruit. The kids all ended up with chicken goujons but they’d run out of ketchup. They did go and get it in the end but we’d asked 4 times by this point. I feel we had a bit of the morning after the night before. Positives There were 13 of us and having friends in the service industry and I know this is a bit of a mare and I think despite not feeling that well looked after everyone got their dinners. Because of the slab of turkey the main course was filling, and the members who ordered non turkey options such as the mushroom ravioli and stonebass all enjoyed it. There was a problem with another table (the diners fault) and I could see how professionally the staff handled it.

We went to Bel & The Dragon for dinner with our family on Christmas Day and we stayed overnight and left late afternoon Boxing Day. From the moment we arrived, we were treated like royalty, even though we hadn’t stayed in Be Dragon before. Tom Baines greeted us on arrival. Tom was kind, helpful, good humoured , friendly and professional. We had booked lunch for 2 pm and he very kindly allowed us a private room at no extra charge at the front of the hotel overlooking charming High Street of Odiham. There were nine of us six adults and three children in our group. The service was superb. The staff were out of this world and could not do more for us even though it was such a busy day. Callum was also very helpful throughout our visit and again couldn’t do enough to please us right up to the moment we left. There were no complaints from anyone in our group about the food everyone was more than happy with what we were served bearing in mind it was incredibly busy. Breakfast next morning was also excellent in the staff very cheerful. We will definitely be back. Thank you, everyone, especially Tom and Callum..

Stopped off in Odiham after a short family journey for lunch. the Bel and Dragon came highly recommended. Our Sunday lunch was the Roast Lamb, which came with three excellent potatoes, one carrot, one portion of cauliflower cheese, greens and beans together with a large Yorkshire Pudding and jug of excellent and flavoursome gravy. Our son had two Vegan (pb = plant-based) appetisers: the Wild Mushrooms on bread & and separate side of chips & the Tomato Tartlets. The former was great, the Tomato Tartlets were very small and disappointing despite their good flavour. Other comments have highlighted the high prices for us, two Roast Lamb meals and the Vegan meal came to £84.38 with only tap water as our accompanying drink. Overall, the meal serving was excellent with good portions of the Roast Lamb & the Wild Mushrooms. Don’t bother with the Tomato Tartlets unless you enjoy disappointment.

A very uneven experience at this hotel. Whilst staff are really well trained and friendly , rooms really need a refurb. Carpets are grubby, paint is marked and the room we stayed in ( Milestone) is the smallest room I have ever stayed in that called itself a double. Our bathroom door did not shut properly, or lock , and the shower head desperately needed a limescale treatment. We had mixed experiences of food & beverage. Bar staff were very good and made us feel so welcome , even when we arrived at midnight wanting a nightcap after a wedding. They also make excellent cocktails . Restaurant staff were also very professional and friendly , breakfast was pretty good, lunch was mixed. Excellent tasting half chicken and really poor and minuscule Caesar salad . For the prices we paid for the room and the lunch, we would have expected better value on both counts. We live in London , and even in the capital you find better value as the norm.

Beware the service charge which turns out not to be optional. When buying drinks at the bar [not the restaurant] carrying them to your table, then ordering a snack at the bar, we did not expect a 12.5% service charge slapped on our bill. Arguments with the teenage staff proved useless.

I’ve eaten here before, a few times to be fair and had a mixed experience, one time (restaurant outside) and it was amazing, next time (bar, inside) and it was pretty bad.. I could, at the time of booking, only remember the positive experience and the lovely food I had outside so I phoned up and booked a table for 5pm (sad I know, but for one)… I was really looking forward to a roast dinner with all the trimmings and a pint to wash it down with. The person on the phone was friendly, accommodating and helpful and I looked forward to a hearty meal.Arrived pretty much dead on, was given the choice of restaurant or bar and not wanting to look like saddo eating in a restaurant alone, I opted for the bar.Table was cleaned in front of me, drink order taken and presented pretty much within 2 minutes and I was left alone to peruse the menu. I was told that the Roast Beef was all gone but they had roast pork (couldn’t see it for toffee on the menu) and everything else was still available.. In my head, I selected the maple syrup sausage bites for starters and was going roast pork (hoping it wasn’t my imagination that he said it was available)… I waited, and waited, and waited… but didn’t see a person (eye contact) that could see I was ready to order… at 5.25pm, I got up.. went to look for someone to take my order… couldn’t see anyone… so left… got in my car and drove to The Chequers at Well, had an amazing Roast Beef dinner, Sticky Toffee pudding and a latte..Such a shame because I know that the Bel and Dragon do really nice food, it’s just such a shame that the service is just so ‘non existent’… I’ve got to a point now where instead of complaining and asking for a manager or someone to ‘vent’ at in the way a customer is treated, and how this is just not concussive to a successful running of a business, to the point of… voting with my feet.Chances are, I’ll never go back to this pub again, not tell anyone about the really nice food and positive dining experience I once had but how I was ignored for 25 minutes and got up and walked out unchallenged. I booked and left my phone number and name but didn’t receive a call asking me why or to pay for the tonic water I ordered but didn’t pay for.. It’s sad that this is allowed to happen in this day and age… On a plus point, I can highly recommend the Chequers at Well… roast dinner is spot on…

I ate here with my family last week on recommendation and I wasn’t disappointed. From the moment of booking to arriving and being seated, we felt safe. They have obviously worked very hard to follow the Covid guidelines, which is reassuring to see when eating out.We all had a main course and dessert, all of which were delicious but especially the lamb rump, which I wish I had ordered and had food envy after trying my husband’s! My daughter especially loved the Sticky Toffee Pudd. We tried to leave this feedback privately on Facebook messenger but due to the lack of response, decided to actually leave this review. After having the wrong drink bought out, which is fine, mistakes are made, everything we asked for, when we could locate a staff member was either really delayed or didn’t happen unless we asked again. There was a young boy who was doing everything, which is why everything was slower. Side plates, ketchup, salt and pepper came about 5/6 minutes after our food was put on our table. Food went cold. Waited for staff to come check back on us to ask for more drinks. Never came. Waited for staff for the bill. Never came. We ended up walking to the front desk, by the front door, before we came across anyone to pay. Staff were eating in the office, now I’m obviously not complaining about people eating but we literally couldn’t find anyone and at this point after waiting for so long just wanted to leave. We love coming in and this won’t be the last time at all. I just wanted to share how disappointed we were with the evening. I should add we were sitting in the garden, which is why I wanted to emphasise how we walked through the whole restaurant and into the lobby/front desk before we found another member of staff, which we had to call for.

Booked a table for dinner at 7.30.The wooden chairs are excruciatingly uncomfortable. Ask for a banquette seat. There was a family dining and the youngest child just screamed and screamed incessantly. The parents should have taken the child outside to calm the child down, or the restaurant manager should have asked them to deal with it. This screaming just went on and on.So not a good start. My husbands food was lovely, mine less so. Very expensive and the drinks and wines are exorbitant.Service very average, but they do put 12 and a half % service on the bill.Don’t rush here.

Went for lunch with some friends and were one of the first in the restaurant shortly after 12.15. Initially there was a problem finding the table for our booking, our drinks order was then swiftly taken and arrived promptly however we had to chivvy someone to take our food order. Our starters arrived in good time but there was an hour wait for our mains to arrive after several reminders and then a further 10 minutes for our sides! Unlike other restaurants/ pubs no member of staff seemed to be responsible for our table and aware of the problem with our order. Also tHe food we were served was expensive and not value for money. Due to the poor service we decided not to try a pud or stay for coffee. Would not recommend.

We booked the Bel & The Dragon for a few nights away. It needed to be somewhere we could stay as a family, with two young children, and we must say that the Family Suite at this hotel is just perfect. A corridor separates the children’s room (bunk bed, child’s desk with lots of books in it) and the adult room. COVID-19 meant that certain restrictions had been put in place, so there were no tea and coffee making facilities in the room. But the stay were incredible and were happy to bring us tea and coffee when we asked for it. They even offered a complimentary sloe gin and whiskey in the room every night. There was a huge variety of food choices at breakfast, which was table service. We had dinner here on our penultimate night. The children were given colouring sheets and had a broad menu to choose from. We had cocktails which were delicious. Main courses were steak and hake, both cooked to perfection. We would certainly recommend this hotel to any family looking for a base to explore the local area. We visited Highclere Castle on our first day and Avebury Stones on our second day.

Really disappointing Sunday lunch experience at the Bel and Dragon today. Fully appreciate things are very difficult for this industry now but have eaten in a number of restaurants since lock down lifted and they all seem to have got their act together.. Took nearly an hour to place our order and then nearly as long again for any food to arrive and when it did it was only partially complete. Didn't bother with dessert. More importantly no soap available in the ladies toilet - not sure how this complies with CV 19 requirements. Paid the bill in full incl service because given the current circus felt it was the right thing to do but will not be visiting again. Passed comments onto the manager as we left.

We visited for a special occasion - our wedding anniversary - as most guests will be for a restaurant of this style/price. Unfortunately the service was useless. Our apéritifs took so long to arrive that we were left empty tabled and not able to enjoy them. They turned up as our starters were being served - and neither were what we had ordered. The tap water we requested never turned up at all - water should be offered on all tables free of charge, without even having to be requested. This does not feel like a properly prepared or safe place to eat in covid-19 times. There was no hand sanitiser available on reception and so no-one encouraged to sanitise hands before entering the restaurant. NONE of the staff were wearing either face masks or shields and there was no shielding between tables or of service area and kitchen. We were sitting near and I was facing the toilets and I did not see a single staff member enter and clean them in 2 hours we were there. The food was tasty and well cooked. However in a restaurant of this quality, with a limited menu (good to see) and pre-booking, it really is not acceptable to run out of one of the key dishes - the steak - by 8pm on a Saturday evening. If we had been informed this might be the case, my husband would certainly have pre-booked this. As I am vegetarian, the only chance he gets to enjoy good red meat is eating out.Disappointing service, which simply does not justify the expensive prices charged. We will not risk coming here again, especially for a special occasion.

My favourite remains the 30oz West Country rib of beef perfect for sharing with friends and family and sometimes there is lobster included . Delicious unfortunately there was no “Five hour lamb shoulder” as it would have a lovely change. Went for a family lunch on Sunday, the only table that was available was 1.45, which suited us as we like a late lunch on Sundays. It was my first visit to the pub and my first impression was what a lovely looking pub. We were put in a table in a sort of nook and I thought it was great, but unfortunately the first half of the meal was totally ruined by the noise in the place. It was unbelievable. I think the problem was there is no soft furnishings so it is very echoey, and there was a very noisy family next to us who were encouraging their children to do star jumps whilst counting very loudly! They left at about 3, only to be replaced with a very large party in a different room, who had three dogs which were either running free or howling. This, I understand is not the pubs fault, but unfortunately, waiting an hour for our main course, then a hour for our dessert was not acceptable. The food was good, though there were a few items of food not available, which considering the menu is quite limited was very disappointing. My son had his heart set on a steak and my youngest wanted roast chicken, both had run out. The whole thing was not relaxing and I am not sure I would go back.

The fried squid as started are great as well. Service is friendly though sometimes a bit forgetful, which is ok as the quality of the food is perfect. Only slight area of improvement would be the service at the bar which sometimes seems a bit slow. Otherwise nothing to fault here. We booked to stay for our anniversary and have stayed here twice before and had no issues. We enjoyed a couple of cocktails in the bar and the bar staff were lovely and attentive but things went downhill when moving to the restaurant. We had to wait for an hour for our order to be taken or even receive any water due to issues in the kitchen. The waitress was very apologetic but quite frankly didn’t help at all by not taking an order for an hour even though we indicated we were ready. The general manager attended to us and other tables to explain the issue but no apology was forthcoming from him at all.I had the pork with roast potatoes which was slightly dry and the potatoes were akin to Auntie Bessie’s which was also disappointing. I do have to say the Whitebait was very good as was the chicken starter when it finally arrived. There were obvious kitchen issues which were unexplained apart from being told by the general manager that it was a new chef.We left the following morning after a satisfactory breakfast but unfortunately my wife was sorely disappointed and we won’t be returning again based on the very poor service received. As a side note no discount or apology was received which would have gone some way to placating our feelings and we were not asked how our stay was when we left which was also poor for a hotel.

The staff were very friendly and made us feel very welcome. The food was really good although the roast potatoes could have done with being cooked more. I had the roast beef and it was cooked perfectly. My son had the suckling pig and cracking. As you can see by my pictures, the Yorkshire puddings are huge!! These are served with the suckling pig too. The prawn and lobster linguini was not available but they replaced it with crab and clams instead. My husband said it was delicious. My 18 month old granddaughter had the children’s portion of spaghetti Bolognese which was also good (in fact after seeing it I would have liked that too). The puddings were stunning, especially the panacotta with white chocolate, honeycomb and passion fruit. After dinner, they bought out a Happy Birthday Board with a candle and chocolate brownies which was a lovely surprise. Portion sizes are good, not overly big which suits us. Parking is at the rear of the restaurant through an archway. They have a small but neat garden at the back which is good if you just want a drink. Definitely worth a visit.

Fab! Excellent friendly and knowledgeable service, great (tad pricey) wine list, and rib of beef and roast potatoes that were out of this world. Passion fruit pannacotta was amazing. Quiet, cosy and welcoming with a touch of class here and there. We’ll be back!

Having been bought £100 vouchers for Christmas we decided to take full advantage of sublime Sunday i.e. spend £100 in the restaurant and have a complimentary stay for our wedding anniversary. Fully expecting an inferior room I made a point of requesting a nice room and wasn't disappointed. It was beautiful with a lovely deep bath, loads of piping hot water and a complimentary bottle of Sloe Gin. After spending the day visiting nearby Winchester, we started our evening with superb cocktails followed by dinner. The scallops were cooked to perfection as was our steak all washed down with a lovely rioja followed by a cheese board with complimentary champagne and strawberries. Having fully expected to pay for breakfast we were very pleasantly surprised to learn it was complimentary with the room. The full English was excellent as was the avocado with poached eggs and an amazing "bacon bolognese" which was totally yummy. The staff were extremely friendly, kind and accomodating giving the place a lovely relaxed atmosphere. I would throroughly recommend the "Sublime Sunday" deal, it really was sublime!!!

Absolutely superb dinner. Drinks al fresco to start, having been welcomed by extremely friendly bar team, even having lessons on different glasses for different beers but a great chap in the bar!! Shown to a lovely booth which was really comfy and cosy! Food was absolutely delicious, asparagus and duck egg, burrata and tomatoes, crap and prawn paradelle, roast chicken followed but chocolate nemesis and cheese. Delighted by treats at the end of our meal. Tom is such an asset to the business, chatty without being overpowering, friendly and knowledgable! Will definitely return! Thank you!

Yesterday we had a WONDEFUL family day at The Bel & Dragon. As a large party we ordered two of the roast sharers, the rib of beef was out of this world & the chicken, vegetables, stuffing, cauliflower cheese etc were perfect. Special mention to the perfectly roasted potatoes! We found a little room to share the chocolate bomb dessert between a few of us to round off literally a perfect lunch. Thank you!

We had a delicious meal, even the vegan option was extremely tasty. The wine list was extensive and the staff charming and helpful. When they discovered it was my daughter’s birthday they kindly gave her a glass of fizz and at the end of the meal a lovely Happy Birthday message with brownies and candle. It’s a lovely setting and very comfortable.

I want to love the Bel and Dragon as the staff are lovely and the setting beautiful however having eaten here three times for lunch with friends and family I have to say the food is always just a bit disappointing and expensive for what arrives. Last time I had chicken escalope with truffle egg. The chicken was dry and tough and the whole thing massively underseasoned. It didn't have any taste. I would've thought it would come with some vegetable or salad side but nothing... My boyfriend's fish and chips were quite soggy. The best bit was the starters - fantastic white baig but overall just not worth the price tag.

Really lovely restaurant and bar in Odiham village. Only down point was we weren’t greeted and didn’t really know where to go to get seated to our table. Once seated the service was brilliant, hugely attentive, didn’t wait for any part of the service from table water to the bill. I went for the salmon fish of the day which was cooked well and the sauce was delicious. My partner had the eggs and avocado which was a good size, and the lamb shoulder - but be careful as a very rich dish. Wine list is extensive and they also do great cocktails, so plenty to choose from.

I was really looking forward to eating here as my daughter had said the food is really good. Also wanted somewhere a bit special for my partners 60th Birthday. We were shown to a booth which had a rather sticky table top and a dirty water glass. The starters were lovely and very much enjoyed, but the main failed to impress. I had the chicken coq a vin. The chicken was dry and over cooked, there wasn’t a lot of sauce and not a lot of taste either. My partner had the fish stew, which was quite mediocre. It was also very noisy as they had 2 large parties in and my partner and I had to literally shout to each other to be heard. Because of the noise we decided not to stay for dessert. I asked for a calypso coffee, but not available only baileys or whiskey.... I had mentioned on the phone that it was a special birthday, but not acknowledged at all in the restaurant. Given what we paid which was over a 100 quid to the quality we received... didn’t match up, so left feeling a bit disappointed.

We are new to the village and love this pub. Sunday lunch here was spectacular and we re vegetarian (not often well catered for on Sundays). We ve also stayed in the hotel above and it’s also great. It’s a triply lovely place. But £14.50 for a pint and a glass of wine is far too expensive. It stops us coming here I’m afraid and for that reason I can’t give it the 5 stars I would have liked to.

I ordered game terrine as a starter. It was a huge portion. It tasted great and was moist, which is not easily achieved given that it seemed to include pheasant breast. I followed this with partridge, reasoning that as we were in the countryside they would know how to cook it. Big mistake. There had been no attempt to protect the breast by say covering with bacon. It was vastly overcooked and very dry. These birds should be served pink unless the customer requests otherwise. The roast potatoes which were served with many dishes were a disgrace. Reheated roast potatoes have a dreadful starchy taste. The last refuge of a lazy chef. One good dish and one bad equals a bad meal.

Let me just say this Country Inn is one of the best places I've ever had the pleasure to visit. I have eaten here twice and last night held my 40th birthday party here, the staff were fantastic; helpful, attentive without being intrusive. They couldn't do enough for me or my 60 guests. The food provided was delicious, hot and perfect in every way. The rooms were spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated. I cannot say enough good things about Bel and The Dragon, I highly recommend it for lunch, dinner, overnight stays or a special occasion, a very special place which comes highly recommended.

We booked a table for 2 adults and 2 kids (4 & 2) for Sunday lunch. After a slight delay in having a table ready we were served very well and politely with regular checks to make sure everything was fine. Some basic books, toys and colouring equipment kept the kids mostly entertained. The restaurant decor etc is nice and I’m sure will be even nicer around Christmas. My wife and I both had roast beef, which was very nice (they also accommodated a slight adjustment in accompaniments for my wife). You do pay a little more than elsewhere but i think the quality and portion is just about worth it. Kids had bolognese, which was simple but a little over-priced as it’s not equivalently elevated compared to other family-friendly places.

We always have great food here and when the in-laws came to visit from another country we made special arrangements with the kitchen to have the salted rack of lamb that we had enjoyed so much on another occasion but which was not on the menu at this time. The request was accommodated without any problems and we were not disappointed. The rack, along with the DEEEEEVIIIIINNNE potatoes and some other veggies, but really its the potatoes you want, were just as, if not better than before. We ordered the house wine this time and it too was the perfect accompaniment. Top tip: Establishments like this are not going to have poor house wine to go with their excellent food. Needless to say, the in-laws were suitably impressed. Unfortunately we have been so busy since that visit that we've not been able to clear a night when we can return to try another sharer we spotted on the menu, the beef bourguignon! Service wise, this particular night was excellent. We have had average service here before but then nobody's perfect all the time and the food more than makes up for any service oversights. We like to sit in a booth if we can which isn't always possible if its just the two of us because the booths take 4+. One thing to note is that the bar is pet friendly so for allergy sufferers like myself just go straight to the restaurant.

Our daughter went for a meal here last month and really raved about it, so, as we were free Tuesday lunchtime we thought we would pop in to celebrate my husband's birthday (very impromptu - as we were seeing friends in the evening). We had some utterly delicious breads whilst reading the menu and then I had mussels in cider and my husband had the scallops. Both were gorgeous and my husband mopped up every last trace of sauce with the bread it was so good. There is also a lunchtime offer on a wine (which changes monthly I think) but the £43 chablis was on offer for £31 and it was STUNNING. To follow I had a turmeric roasted chicken with duck fat and rosemary potatoes and my husband had the fish and chips. His looked lovely and fresh, if I am totally honest my chicken was a little dry - but not enough to moan about. The side of peas, sugar snaps and runner beans was very nice. We didn't really want a dessert but the "Pineapple ravioli with mango and pink peppercorns" was too weird to not try. OMG - order it - it was scrummy. There is no pasta in it but the pineapple was cut wafer thin and folded over to resemble the ravioli and the peppercorn inside was such a fabulous contrast I could eat it every day (and I don't do desserts). The final wonderful touch was presenting my husband with a board with a message of Happy Birthday in caramel and 100's and 1000's and a glass of bubbly. A wonderful place which we will DEFINITELY be going to again SOON.

We have been dining here quite regularly for several years as it is close by and the food and service used to be excellent but standards have dropped, particularly when it comes to service. We ate here 3 weeks ago and were waited an hour for our first course and 40 mins for the second. They apologised and said there was a big party of people all at the same time. Hoping this was a one off we returned last night and despite the restaurant not being full service was painfully slow, ordering, clearing between courses and obtaining the bill. We are disappointed and will not be returning. This is a shame as we have previously enjoyed dining at a number of their restaurants, Odiham, Churt and Windsor. I hope someone monitors these reviews and can do something to restore the previous high standards.
