I love Bel and the atmosphere and staff as a local who has been going for 10 years, but I met a friend recently and had a black coffee which was £3.45!! I’m afraid I will enjoy my coffee at home - sorry guys but that is ridiculous, it’s not London.

Having had Sunday lunch here on two previous occasions, I wanted to go here for my birthday lunch. We seemed to be overlooked as I had to keep trying to get someone to serve us, Dinner came out before we got our drinks and waited for them to bring the dessert menu that took about 15 minutes after he said would we like to look at the menu. Dinner was nice but not as nice as it had been on previous occasions. It wasn’t very busy so not sure why the service was so slow. I probably wouldn’t go back again.

We recently came as a group of 8 adults and 2 young children to celebrate a birthday and the afternoon was just amazing! We had the sharing roast dinner platter and added on some sides and we actually had waaay too much food! The meats were perfectly cooked and the vegetables were so tasty! I would recommend the platters for anyone nearby wanting to go out in a group for a roast dinner! We all agreed was the best dinner we had had out in a LONG time, one said it was the best roast dinner they had ever had out and the other said was the best beef they had ever had. Which I think says alot. They were very accommodating and for one of the youngest children they done her a little plate of mash and mushy peas so she could eat with us! We didn’t feel at all like they didn’t want the children there, which sometimes when dining out can be a worry. We will definitely be back and we already can’t wait! Thank you

Better known to some of us as The George (and what is wrong with that?) Bel & the Dragon has a bustling and well run dining room and offers very good food and (as always, at a price) a superior wine list of absorbing interest. Dishes are presented with pleasing care, none better than the Succulent Pork, clearly cooked for many slow hours if not days and surrounded by all sorts of vegetables and sauce. Locals pile in and the bar always seems in a roar. In rooms dating from 1540 you would expect vertiginous stairs, creaks, draughts, offstage noises shared among fellow guests and some trendy well distressed furnishings and you will not be disappointed, but you will also enjoy fine fine bed linen and top hole housekeeping standards. And little Odiham is a delight.

Very Disappointing. A group of us met for dinner, the service was extremely slow, there was definitely not enough staff for how many customers were in the restaurant and bar. This place has gone downhill at a rate of knots since the change of management. The furniture in the bar area is not only tatty but filthy, shabby chic is acceptable but not shabby junk, it’s not helped by customers allowing their dogs to clamber all over it. The staff are under trained and not au fait with the concept of customer service. My family and I used The B and D on a regular basis and enjoyed it but now it’s just a place for a quick drink if it suits but not to eat. A great shame as with decent management and some money spent on improvements and staff training it could once again be a good destination.

2pm sitting for Christmas Lunch 25 Dec 2023 – Bel and the Dragon, Odiham. Hook. Upon arrival I saw the manager who I met a few days before leaving the premises and not return. Maybe at this point I should have realised things were not quite right. Signed in and got ourselves some drinks and was asked to wait and to be called. Whilst waiting, and got chatting to other customers, they had been waiting for over an hour. None of the staff had a clue when we would be sitting. I could see many customers complaining and staff crying, which isn’t a good look. We persevered and thought these things happen. Still waiting for two hours, after continuing to find out and to manage to speak to a staff member, he said, “I honestly do not know when you will be seated” Someone else from the team spoke to me and said he would be back in 30 seconds. 20 minutes later we were seated and then just abandoned for at least 30 minutes. My wife went to the bar to order drinks, only to be told that someone would come to our table. This never happened. I looked around and saw many customers disillusioned and spotted a couple and child who were waiting with us in the snug and bar who were seated before us still without food apart from their child who was provided with the wrong dish. I was at this point contemplating leaving. This is Christmas Day – Christmas lunch, which was becoming dinner. I turned around spoke to the family I had met earlier, and they said they are leaving as the starter they had was poor and service rubbish. At that point I managed to speak to a member of staff and said we are leaving and demanded my money back, to which they obliged. My wife was spoken to by a staff member whilst I was arranging my refund and he told her that the food would be free. We still left knowing full well, that we would be waiting for hours. We have been to the Bel & Dragon in Odiham and Churt many times before, for Christmas lunch and for general dinners, but will never again step foot inside this establishment. It was Christmas day and me and my family were looking forward to a great experience only to be subjected to many hours waiting, staff not knowing what was going on. Total disarray and staff crying. No management on hand for the staff and customers and understaffed in all departments. This experience was a hugely disappointing and the management team at the Bel & the Dragon should be ashamed for letting me and my family down as well as many others. I cooked when we got home. Tom

I’ve eaten here before, a few times to be fair and had a mixed experience, one time (restaurant outside) and it was amazing, next time (bar, inside) and it was pretty bad.. I could, at the time of booking, only remember the positive experience and the lovely food I had outside so I phoned up and booked a table for 5pm (sad I know, but for one)… I was really looking forward to a roast dinner with all the trimmings and a pint to wash it down with. The person on the phone was friendly, accommodating and helpful and I looked forward to a hearty meal.Arrived pretty much dead on, was given the choice of restaurant or bar and not wanting to look like saddo eating in a restaurant alone, I opted for the bar.Table was cleaned in front of me, drink order taken and presented pretty much within 2 minutes and I was left alone to peruse the menu. I was told that the Roast Beef was all gone but they had roast pork (couldn’t see it for toffee on the menu) and everything else was still available.. In my head, I selected the maple syrup sausage bites for starters and was going roast pork (hoping it wasn’t my imagination that he said it was available)… I waited, and waited, and waited… but didn’t see a person (eye contact) that could see I was ready to order… at 5.25pm, I got up.. went to look for someone to take my order… couldn’t see anyone… so left… got in my car and drove to The Chequers at Well, had an amazing Roast Beef dinner, Sticky Toffee pudding and a latte..Such a shame because I know that the Bel and Dragon do really nice food, it’s just such a shame that the service is just so ‘non existent’… I’ve got to a point now where instead of complaining and asking for a manager or someone to ‘vent’ at in the way a customer is treated, and how this is just not concussive to a successful running of a business, to the point of… voting with my feet.Chances are, I’ll never go back to this pub again, not tell anyone about the really nice food and positive dining experience I once had but how I was ignored for 25 minutes and got up and walked out unchallenged. I booked and left my phone number and name but didn’t receive a call asking me why or to pay for the tonic water I ordered but didn’t pay for.. It’s sad that this is allowed to happen in this day and age… On a plus point, I can highly recommend the Chequers at Well… roast dinner is spot on…

We tried to leave this feedback privately on Facebook messenger but due to the lack of response, decided to actually leave this review. After having the wrong drink bought out, which is fine, mistakes are made, everything we asked for, when we could locate a staff member was either really delayed or didn’t happen unless we asked again. There was a young boy who was doing everything, which is why everything was slower. Side plates, ketchup, salt and pepper came about 5/6 minutes after our food was put on our table. Food went cold. Waited for staff to come check back on us to ask for more drinks. Never came. Waited for staff for the bill. Never came. We ended up walking to the front desk, by the front door, before we came across anyone to pay. Staff were eating in the office, now I’m obviously not complaining about people eating but we literally couldn’t find anyone and at this point after waiting for so long just wanted to leave. We love coming in and this won’t be the last time at all. I just wanted to share how disappointed we were with the evening. I should add we were sitting in the garden, which is why I wanted to emphasise how we walked through the whole restaurant and into the lobby/front desk before we found another member of staff, which we had to call for.

Our starters arrived in good time but there was an hour wait for our mains to arrive after several reminders and then a further 10 minutes for our sides! We booked the Bel & The Dragon for a few nights away. It needed to be somewhere we could stay as a family, with two young children, and we must say that the Family Suite at this hotel is just perfect. A corridor separates the children’s room (bunk bed, child’s desk with lots of books in it) and the adult room. COVID-19 meant that certain restrictions had been put in place, so there were no tea and coffee making facilities in the room. But the stay were incredible and were happy to bring us tea and coffee when we asked for it. They even offered a complimentary sloe gin and whiskey in the room every night. There was a huge variety of food choices at breakfast, which was table service. We had dinner here on our penultimate night. The children were given colouring sheets and had a broad menu to choose from. We had cocktails which were delicious. Main courses were steak and hake, both cooked to perfection. We would certainly recommend this hotel to any family looking for a base to explore the local area. We visited Highclere Castle on our first day and Avebury Stones on our second day.

Really disappointing Sunday lunch experience at the Bel and Dragon today. Fully appreciate things are very difficult for this industry now but have eaten in a number of restaurants since lock down lifted and they all seem to have got their act together.. Took nearly an hour to place our order and then nearly as long again for any food to arrive and when it did it was only partially complete. Didn't bother with dessert. More importantly no soap available in the ladies toilet - not sure how this complies with CV 19 requirements. Paid the bill in full incl service because given the current circus felt it was the right thing to do but will not be visiting again. Passed comments onto the manager as we left.

We visited for a special occasion - our wedding anniversary - as most guests will be for a restaurant of this style/price. Unfortunately the service was useless. Our apéritifs took so long to arrive that we were left empty tabled and not able to enjoy them. They turned up as our starters were being served - and neither were what we had ordered. The tap water we requested never turned up at all - water should be offered on all tables free of charge, without even having to be requested. This does not feel like a properly prepared or safe place to eat in covid-19 times. There was no hand sanitiser available on reception and so no-one encouraged to sanitise hands before entering the restaurant. NONE of the staff were wearing either face masks or shields and there was no shielding between tables or of service area and kitchen. We were sitting near and I was facing the toilets and I did not see a single staff member enter and clean them in 2 hours we were there. The food was tasty and well cooked. However in a restaurant of this quality, with a limited menu (good to see) and pre-booking, it really is not acceptable to run out of one of the key dishes - the steak - by 8pm on a Saturday evening. If we had been informed this might be the case, my husband would certainly have pre-booked this. As I am vegetarian, the only chance he gets to enjoy good red meat is eating out.Disappointing service, which simply does not justify the expensive prices charged. We will not risk coming here again, especially for a special occasion.

Siamo stati ospiti del locale per cena.Locale sulla strada principale con buone possibilità di parcheggio.Ambiente pulito e arredato in maniera piacevole.

Went for a family lunch on Sunday, the only table that was available was 1.45, which suited us as we like a late lunch on Sundays. It was my first visit to the pub and my first impression was what a lovely looking pub. We were put in a table in a sort of nook and I thought it was great, but unfortunately the first half of the meal was totally ruined by the noise in the place. It was unbelievable. I think the problem was there is no soft furnishings so it is very echoey, and there was a very noisy family next to us who were encouraging their children to do star jumps whilst counting very loudly! They left at about 3, only to be replaced with a very large party in a different room, who had three dogs which were either running free or howling. This, I understand is not the pubs fault, but unfortunately, waiting an hour for our main course, then a hour for our dessert was not acceptable. The food was good, though there were a few items of food not available, which considering the menu is quite limited was very disappointing. My son had his heart set on a steak and my youngest wanted roast chicken, both had run out. The whole thing was not relaxing and I am not sure I would go back.

We met family here for a Christmas get together meal. We were a range of ages, including teens, toddlers and adults. But we all found something on the menu and all of us enjoyed our meal. I had the steak and it was perfectly cooked. Staff were friendly and made us all very welcome. The inn itself is cosy and has a nice vibe. I think we wished we had stayed in as guests so we could enjoy the ambience a bit more. I think we will definitely arrange to meet there again some time soon.

Go here regularly as always like the food and service. The ingredients are always fresh and the selection good. I can highly recommend the suckling pig or the roast chicken. The fried squid as started are great as well. Service is friendly though sometimes a bit forgetful, which is ok as the quality of the food is perfect. Only slight area of improvement would be the service at the bar which sometimes seems a bit slow. Otherwise nothing to fault here. The bar is a cozy wood panelled room which is great for pre or after dinner drinks.

Wanted some drinks after dinner. OK but not great experience. Several draught bitters were off. Service was so so. When we went back for a second round, we were told that the bar was closed.

We booked to stay for our anniversary and have stayed here twice before and had no issues. We enjoyed a couple of cocktails in the bar and the bar staff were lovely and attentive but things went downhill when moving to the restaurant. We had to wait for an hour for our order to be taken or even receive any water due to issues in the kitchen. The waitress was very apologetic but quite frankly didn’t help at all by not taking an order for an hour even though we indicated we were ready. The general manager attended to us and other tables to explain the issue but no apology was forthcoming from him at all.I had the pork with roast potatoes which was slightly dry and the potatoes were akin to Auntie Bessie’s which was also disappointing. I do have to say the Whitebait was very good as was the chicken starter when it finally arrived. There were obvious kitchen issues which were unexplained apart from being told by the general manager that it was a new chef.We left the following morning after a satisfactory breakfast but unfortunately my wife was sorely disappointed and we won’t be returning again based on the very poor service received. As a side note no discount or apology was received which would have gone some way to placating our feelings and we were not asked how our stay was when we left which was also poor for a hotel.

We went on Sunday for my husbands birthday lunch. It was our first visit here so didn’t know what to expect. The dining room is light, bright and airy. The staff were very friendly and made us feel very welcome. The food was really good although the roast potatoes could have done with being cooked more. I had the roast beef and it was cooked perfectly. My son had the suckling pig and cracking. As you can see by my pictures, the Yorkshire puddings are huge!! These are served with the suckling pig too. The prawn and lobster linguini was not available but they replaced it with crab and clams instead. My husband said it was delicious. My 18 month old granddaughter had the children’s portion of spaghetti Bolognese which was also good (in fact after seeing it I would have liked that too). The puddings were stunning, especially the panacotta with white chocolate, honeycomb and passion fruit. After dinner, they bought out a Happy Birthday Board with a candle and chocolate brownies which was a lovely surprise. Portion sizes are good, not overly big which suits us. Parking is at the rear of the restaurant through an archway. They have a small but neat garden at the back which is good if you just want a drink. Definitely worth a visit.

What can I say? We used to go to this place quite often but no more. I don't like being left without any attention for ages then, when a waitress is asked if someone could take our order she dismisses our request with a wave of her hand. We left and went next door where we were treated like valuable customers rather than an annoyance.

Always love eating at this pub and we are never disappointed. The garden is gorgeous for the summer months and dogs are welcome in the bar and garden too. I have eaten here at least 12 times over the last year , probably more , and the food is reliably very good indeed. Service is okay , maybe not the best ever but perhaps that is due to the success of the place ! Will be going again for sure....

We reserved a table for four, to help celebrate my son’s birthday. The evening menu is very different to lunch, which we have enjoyed many times. I think they try too hard, some simpler dishes would help. But the service was very poor. Our drinks order took nearly 30m to complete, while the bar man served everyone else. In fairness they didn’t charge for the late items, but still expected me to pay 12.5% service charge which I declined to do. A shame, what should have been a lovely evening was a bit disappointing.

Having been bought £100 vouchers for Christmas we decided to take full advantage of sublime Sunday i.e. spend £100 in the restaurant and have a complimentary stay for our wedding anniversary. Fully expecting an inferior room I made a point of requesting a nice room and wasn't disappointed. It was beautiful with a lovely deep bath, loads of piping hot water and a complimentary bottle of Sloe Gin. After spending the day visiting nearby Winchester, we started our evening with superb cocktails followed by dinner. The scallops were cooked to perfection as was our steak all washed down with a lovely rioja followed by a cheese board with complimentary champagne and strawberries. Having fully expected to pay for breakfast we were very pleasantly surprised to learn it was complimentary with the room. The full English was excellent as was the avocado with poached eggs and an amazing "bacon bolognese" which was totally yummy. The staff were extremely friendly, kind and accomodating giving the place a lovely relaxed atmosphere. I would throroughly recommend the "Sublime Sunday" deal, it really was sublime!!!
