Gardeners' Retreat at Buckingham Garden Centre in Aylesbury Vale

Called in here after spending the morning walking in Stowe gardens. A bit later than intended and not researched their menu first. Boy wasnt we surprized. The pies were delicious. Choice of chips and veg or new potatoes and veg. Both home cooked and superb. Will definitely visit again.

We've stopped for a break a few times now and never failed to be impressed with the Gardeners' Retreat. It's omfortable, spacious, well organised, friendly & helpful staff and good food.

This cafe had been recommended to me by friends. Access to the garden centre was good, and there was plenty of parking space. For me, the quality of the coffee is always important, and I'm pleased to say that it is excellent at the Gardeners' Retreat (and so is the mocha, which I tried on my second visit, on my return journey). I also had the macaroni cheese, which was very good. This and some of the other meals on the menu are also available to buy ready-packed to take home.

Best restraunt in the whole of Buckinghamshire you staff excellent service second to none food you won't get better anywhere else

brown out of date salad, frozen quiche.wife became ill after eating there i had sausage egg and chips i survived .good coffees

We ordered some cake to go with our tea, i chose a slice of fruit cake. When cake arrived (£2.50) I was presented with an small dry end piece. When I pleasantly requested a middle piece the older gentleman growled and reluctantly plated another piece saying ‘ end bits are the best’ and that he would have that bit at break. Made me feel uncomfortable and that I was making a ‘fuss’ ( I rarely complain and am always quick to thank and acknowledge good service)

We often make a stop here whether for a coffee break or lunch. Our last visit was for lunch which was superb as always. It's really nice to go somewhere where you recognise the staff. The staff are every bit as lovely as the food. Can't wait to return.

I posted this review earlier as Buckingham Garden Centre so I guess should post it here as well...Sorry for any duplication.

We use this garden centre as somewhere to meet up when my Mum goes to stay with my sister. It is a good place to meet up and is a nice garden centre with a very popular restaurant. Really good coffee and very impressed with the jacket potatoes which come with a variety of toppings. I had the chilli con carne, which was really tasty. A good value lunch with a nice well presented side salad. Will most certainly use in the future.

Very high quality of food staff very helpful nothing is too much trouble it is the best cafe /restaurant in the whole of Buckinghamshire

We eat here often for lunch and the food is of good quality and tasty. Service can be a bit slow if you arrive during their busy times, you also may have to queue for a table. Overall could recommend.

This is my stopover of choice on my regular journey from Cambridgeshire to Wiltshire. At roughly half way, it provides helpful service, nourishing food and a potter around.

Very busy cafe, food was really good especially for a quick lunch! They had run out of jacket potatoes which was a shame but the baguettes were nicely filled and very tasty.

Googled somewhere to have breakfast on the way to Blenheim Palace. Glad we stopped here - very tasty food.

We frequently visit this restaurant and the food is always excellent. Visit today spoiled as there were 3 dogs in what is a relatively small dining area which we feel is unhygenic. Although the website says there is a designated area for dogs this does not appear to be the case.

Admittedly we arrived 15 minutes before closing, but these people didn't have to be so damn rude. We left without parting with any money.

This rather warehouse-like café offers a wide range of the sort of snacks and light meals you would expect in a large garden centre.

Had appointment in Buckingham earlier - my first visit there & about 50 min drive from home.

The facilities are good, the food is very acceptable, the atmosphere is pleasant. Most of the staff are young and anxious to help. One member of what appears to be the permanent staff is rather officious when there is no need to be. Try and relax when its busy, even in greater numbers, clients still are individuals who love to be treated well.

Food was unappetizing. We both had poached eggs, the whites were very under done and sloppy, the slices of bacon were nearly all fat and the toast was smeared in the middle with something that was bright yellow and definitely not butter. All in all a very disappointing experience which we do not intend to repeat.

The restaurant looked very clean and tidy the food look appertizing my wife had ham and cheese sandwich and l had a macaroni cheese it looked very nice and tasty on the top but when getting below the cheese on top the macaroni underneath didn't have any cheese at all it only tasted of macaroni I don't think it was worth£7.00.if that is home made perhaps you should change the recipe for a better macaroni cheese.

Excellent coffee and good selection of lovely cakes. Main meals good too, very generous portions! Service friendly and efficient. Visit often as I am keen gardner and usually cannot resist a quick coffee and cake!

Food lovely but WHY do staff walk past tables without taking any dirty plates with them. They seem to wait til we leave. It is horrid sitting relaxing looking at your finished plate . I would have moved on to a coffee and cake but not at a dirty table. Four staff members brought food to tables and walked past tables empty handed. It drives me mad. Make that eight at time of writing. Would not go back.

Good food and portion sizes. Dogs are welcome in restricted areas within the restaurant. Service is efficient. Prices are good value. Can get busy at peak times, so get there early.

Visited this cafe for the first time a couple weeks ago for tea and cake - was so lovely we've been back again already for lunch. The food is homemade and tastes delicious. It is excellent value for money, a good £2-£3 cheaper than other garden centre cafes. There are different menus for each meal time and the menus have a fair amount of choices. Lovely selection of cakes. They also sell local wine & fizz which is a great touch.

We had been travelling quite a few hours and fancied a break in our journey. Fortunately they have sufficient notices outside for my wife to see, to tell me we could take a stop. As it was a cold grey day there weren't many people in the establishment. Found a lovely bright clean restaurant. Enough seating, but not 'tightly' packed. There seemed to be a fairly full menu; but we only needed a drink, and cake. The staff were very friendly & helpful. If we were to be coming this way again I would have no hesitation to pop in ....

Lovely home made food, well served, friendly staff, lovely decor & atmosphere, sill be great to visit in the summer and sit outside, its quite big garden centre too, lots to see & buy, good plants & advice from staff.

My partner and I took my parents here for lunch between Christmas and New Year. My father is blind, my mother uses a wheelchair. When we arrived there were no tables and a placard was blocking the doorway asking us to wait to be seated. We waited only 2 minutes and the waiter invited us in, but without moving the placard, so we had to haul it aside (it was quite heavily weighted at the bottom) to get the wheelchair in. Not the best of starts! But we were seated at an accessible table, and my mother had space and time to get from the wheelchair to a regular chair without feeling like she was holding anyone up. We were shown where to store the wheelchair so as not to get in anyone's way. I placed an order (you have to order and pay at the counter, it's not table service) including soup, fishcakes and a steak pie, and all of the food was absolutely delicious - everyone was remarking how wonderful their meal had been. While we ate I was observing the staff and they had a central 'station' from where they could see the whole restaurant and immediately attend to anything that needed doing, such as clearing a table or assisting a customer. The serving/waiting staff were all very friendly and helpful and I couldn't recommend them highly enough. When it came time to leave we had the space to get my other into the wheelchair without blocking anyone else (this really is a rare treat), although we yet again had to move the placard from the middle of the entrance in order to get the wheelchair out. The accessible toilet for the whole garden centre is just next to the restaurant, which is also handy. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who likes tasty home-cooked food, and if you have access needs then doubly so. I just hope someone who works for the restaurant sees this review and can come up with an alternative to making customers with wheelchairs haul aside that dratted placard blocking the entrance!

Went in for lunch with two disabled grandparents, a pram and my mother to quite a busy restaurant. We found a table for four and parked up the pram in a gang way making sure people could still get through without tripping. I then moved a chair to the table for my Grandad. Staff stood watching and after about 10 minutes a young waitress walked past with a tray and rudely said “you can’t sit there” and then returned to stand chatting to her colleagues. I asked her where she expected me to sit and she told me to sit at a table in front of the entrance to the restaurant and explained I was blocking access where I currently was (I would have done the same sat where she told me to go). This would have been totally acceptable if she wasn’t so rude in how she said it and if the staff hadn’t watched us sit there for 10 minutes. Ladies on the next table were also surprised and said that the mothers and baby group come in frequently with their prams and nobody says anything. Reluctantly I stayed in the restaurant but moved to another table and my mum sat at the end of our table so the pram could fit behind the table. The older waitresses were much nicer and had great manners. Food was okay but salad was a bit old.

One of a group of friends booked us in here for a pre Christmas lunch. We decided on the Christmas menu and pre ordered. To have a home cooked meal was a real treat and unusual these days of 'snip and serve'. And it arrived on hot plates, also fairly unusual. The portions were huge and I was very glad not to have ordered a pudding. The service was excellent, nothing was too much trouble including individual bills. Wine was available

Visited with my Mum and we had a lovely lunch. Friendly and welcoming staff. You choose a table then go up to the counter to order from the table menu or specials' board. Everything is freshly prepared to order whether it is a sandwich or a cooked meal but service is prompt. There is also a lovely selection of cakes and scones on display. We both had a toasted sandwich which came with a small salad garnish - the bread was really fresh and there was a good amount of filling. We then had the Eccles shortbread which was crumbly and buttery. It gets really busy at lunchtime so you may need to wait a few minutes for a table but there are plenty of seats so turnover is fairly constant. A lovely place for lunch and a very good garden centre to look around afterwards with very knowledgeable staff.

Had breakfast in this garden centre several times but this time it was disappointing. The bacon, beens and mushrooms were cold and the toast was dried and like cardboard. Complained to staff and second attempt was marginally better.

Been here a few times to meet up with friends. Only had drinks. The food looked good coming out of the kitchen. So we thought this time we would eat here. We ordered lasagne. I must Amit it look good. Til you tasted it. It was bland. No seasone in it. Well dry. I wouldn't say it was pipping hot either. Like I said bit of a let down.

Always good quality with good service. We've been dropping in here for years and definitely recommend it. Sometimes rather busy but that's just a result of being successful. For us it would be great if they could open longer hours.

A very disappointing lunch . After using this restaurant for many years and enjoying the food... I am sad to say it seems to have succumbed to quantity rather than quality . Such a shame as it was one of the best of its kind for many years.

Sitting outside the restaurant on comfortable chairs in the sunshine, near the aroma of the alpines and herbs was just bliss

Cod, Spinach and Cheese fish cakes were cooked to perfection. Panini and chips lovely, could have melted cheese a bit more. Drinks brought to the table.

Hemos venido aquí regularmente para café y almuerzo, en nuestra manera de Worcestershire. En general, el restaurante parecía estar bien organizada y dirigida, pero hay cosillas que tome el borde de las cosas.

Easy to find, plenty of parking for able and disabled visitors, easy, open plan venue to move around and see displays, seating in restaurant was spacious, comfortable,plenty of access options too,solid wooden furniture, clean and inviting atmosphere, plenty of food options available (at given menu times), i enjoyed a hearty portion of scampi,chips and peas,as did my wife, staff were friendly, courteous, helpful,will definitely be returning again for sure

Fuimos un domingo; elegí la cena de carne asada, que era excelente. Porciones grandes y muy sabroso. Nieta eligió queso macarrones del menú infantil que también era muy bueno y ella seguido de un refresco helado.

Nos llevaron a los jardineros refugio, como hemos antes, por un amigo, pero me pareció que el café muy sosa y en el lado débil. La cafetería en sí era bastante agradable y el personal era muy cortés, pero el café no dan un resultado por encima de 4 de 10.

El personal es muy buena en limpiar las mesas y conseguir personas sentadas. La comida era de muy buena calidad, de buen tamaño y porciones de buena relación calidad-precio. Sin duda parada aquí para el almuerzo, es muy popular.

I was visiting the garden centre with my family ( husband and 2 boys) we had a great coffee and the best scones. My son loves cheese scones and said these were 'the best ever'

Excellent food have visited 5 times now and top class food every time. Clean and tidy with cheerful staff. Couldn't ask for more.

A partir de noviembre de 2016 el servicio es muy bueno, buenos asientos, limpio y acogedor, el servicio gratuito de retirada de efectivo brillante y ropa, regalos y jardín comercial, la peor es la comida. Me parece irónico que un jardín utiliza champiñones en lata! Tomates enlatados no son mis favoritos, o salchichas son anémicos, tartas y pasteles secos galletas y té teteras taza pequeña miseria, es una pena para mí porque un negocio es genial, pero los productos como barato y uncheerful que podrás encontrar. Un mercado de verduras está fuera de los domingos, lo cual es muy útil y a veces una carnicería. . . Tal vez el chef podría hacer una oferta en algunas cosas frescas! . .

Viajábamos a Bedford y estuvimos aquí para una parada. St. Era tan buena que nos paramos de nuevo para comer el domingo en el viaje de vuelta. Está limpio, es acogedor, el servicio fue excelente y la comida era estupenda. El café no era el mejor que he probado, pero sin embargo bastante aceptable. El personal era amable y servicial y trabajó duro para mantener las mesas libres y limpias mientras que sirve. También ofrece acceso gratis. El centro también resultó ser la pena pasear después de comer con una gran variedad de productos. En general es un lugar mucho mejor parada en un viaje que un área de servicio. Muy recomendado si estás en la zona y buscando un lugar para pasar una hora o tres.

We stopped here for breakfast and to break up our journey. A nice friendly place, lots of people already having breakfast so always a good sign. A nice varied menu and we thoroughly enjoyed our breakfasts.

He de confesar que no pare aquí por razones de jardinería. Paramos en lugar para una escapada y para descansar en un largo viaje de regreso a casa de Cotswolds. We arrived at the cafe at 11.32am to be told that we were too late for a cooked breakfast (which stopped at 11.30) but too early for lunch (which started at midday). We made do with a sandwich but that didn't hit the spot half way through our 400 mile journey. It seemed very odd to have this 30 minute hiatus which nobody explained.

Great food, pleasant atmosphere. I think that letting non assistance or guide dogs in and staff members openly petting them is not appropriate but there you go. Other than that its fine.

Have used the Gardeners Retreat on several occasions but this was the first visit with the intention of having breakfast. Did not disappoint. Perfectly cooked, dirty great plateful and reasonable price. Smashing staff. Clean and tidy. What more could you want?

Dropped in for afternoon tea and it has to be one of the best Garden Centre Restaurants around. Choice of Cakes & Pastries over whelming and nice pleasant staff

Vivimos local al centro de jardín y solo nos dimos cuenta de que tomar un café. Hay un montón de asientos y mesas, y algunos asientos al aire libre y el personal mantener la zona limpia. El menú tiene una buena variedad y muchas opciones para bebidas. Pedimos el brie/panini tocino y patatas fritas y nuggets de pollo para mi hija. El tamaño de las porciones son muy buenas y probablemente demasiado para mi hija. En cuanto al precio fue muy razonable. Good fresh food available cooked to order. excellent breakfasts and sandwiches in the morning and a good choice of main meals and desserts.

We popped into the cafe for a light lunch and my 4 year old wanted beans on toast.....but as it was after 12 they couldn't serve this despite the makings of this being available on the menu.....really?!

Excellent reasonably priced food, terrific staff and situated in a really good garden centre. Whether breakfast, lunch or just a snack the quality is very good. Really special are their homemade scones - the best in Bucks and beyond!

Todo esto y los precios un buen libra y quizás un poco más bajo establecimientos similares en la zona, digamos un 30 si no más millas. Si estás siempre en el A421 entre el 43 y Buckingham en cualquier dirección que vale la pena la visita. El jardín también es bastante bueno.

El almuerzo de domingo realmente agradable con la familia. La comida era muy buena, abundante y todo por un precio muy bueno. El servicio también era muy todo servido muy rápidamente, a pesar de que estaba muy ocupado. Muy buena selección de comida en el menú. Volveré pronto, estoy seguro.

Mi esposa y yo siempre parada para tomar una copa y un aperitivo cuando visite el Buckingham Garden Centre. Hoy mi esposa tenía un pan tostado teacake con un café con leche y yo tuvimos el tocino y brie panini con un café descafeinado. La comida es de buena calidad, servicio rápido y agradable a pesar de estar muy ocupado. Llegamos justo antes del mediodía (en el cual se inicia oficialmente el primero para servir comidas calientes). Por 12,15 pm el café estaba casi lleno. Es evidente que esta cafetería es un destino para ir a comer por el personal local de negocios. Muy recomendable.

We regularly visit this cafe but usually just for tea and cake or a sandwich which is always very nice. We recently visited for breakfast. They do a great full english breakfast. Decent portions and all fresh ingredients. Prompt service as well.

Nos lo pasamos muy bien el almuerzo en el centro de nuestro jardín con tíos que pasaban por la zona. Agradable, fácil de encontrar y buen aparcamiento así que es ideal para nosotros. La comida estaba recién preparado, abundante y buena relación calidad-precio. No cabe duda de que volveremos a probar su desayuno y mirando la deliciosa selección de pasteles!

Hemos manejado pasado este centro de jardín en muchas ocasiones y sólo recientemente descubrimos el restaurante dentro, para encontrar la más amplia variedad de opciones a precios muy razonables, bien presentada, con raciones grandes y servido por un personal muy eficiente. Visitamos en húmedo y con viento el sábado por la mañana, después de haber manejado desde Milton Keynes, para encontrar el restaurante muy ocupados, pero el personal daba abasto extraordinariamente bien. Tengo que decir que estoy muy impresionado por el sistema que tienen aquí, comparado con algunos sitios donde el sistema de hacer fila es un desastre total. Todo el personal están vestidas con uniformes inmaculados y aquellos que esperan en las mesas son eficientes con su entrega de comida ordenada, así como mantener las mesas despejado y limpio, lo que, de nuevo no siempre es el caso en algunos de los restaurantes que hemos visitado que se te desanime a visitarlo. Pedimos café, papa horneada y baguettes rellenos que eran muy buena relación calidad-precio, además de tener un montón de ensalada y guarnición. Podemos recomendar encarecidamente este restaurante y volveremos, así como navegar por la amplia selección de artículos para la venta en el centro del jardín.

Hemos comido aquí unas cuantas veces, y cada vez que han sido igualmente impresionados. El tamaño de las porciones son generosas, los precios son razonables, pero quizás por encima de todo es que la calidad es fantástico. En nuestro camino de Ely de Woodstock y pase a la hora del almuerzo. Así que nosotros cuatro llamado para un almuerzo ligero. Era un centro restaurante típico del jardín con las buenas sopas y sandwiches habituales. Funcionó muy bien ya que todo está bien y no es caro. El personal es amable.

Comentarios incluido "increíble", "no veo cómo hacen mucho beneficio en esto", "más que suficiente", "realmente agradable y servicial personal", "que sin duda volveré allí", "muy buena relación calidad-precio" y "gran descubrimiento". Yesterday we had a superb three course Christmas lunch. Everything piping hot and the service was wonderful. We could not have had better anywhere.

Nos detuvimos aquí para un bocadillo rápido - puntos positivos eran la distribución del restaurante era mejor que el Jardín Centro promedio, fue bastante acogedor y confortable; la calidad de la comida era buena.
