Lovely building, great food. Went for a roast lunch, and get a lot for the money. Nice old building, low ceilings - a lot of character! Staff friendly and attentive.

Popped in for lunch. Fancied a pie and a pint and a very pleasant beef and onion pie with double vegetables (red and green cabbage) plus a pint of Guinness were consumed.

Nice little pub, however be aware of the service charge they don’t tell you about. We booked a table for a lot of people. We all paid for our own meals but then had to pay a service charge on top of that!! 😡 it should be up to the customer if they want to tip for good service. Not really treating customers fairly is it?!?

Had a lovely meal tonight. The steak cook to perfection. Lovely friendly service. A great pub offering delicious freshly cooked food at good price. With lovely attentive service. Good selection of gin.

Travelling through this area and found this charming pub. Lovely cozy feel to the place. Good varied menu with something for everyone, I had the privilege of testing two new dishes that are coming to the menu, won’t say what they were you’ll have to go and find out but both looked elegant and tasted fantastic. Can’t recommend enough.

Highly recommend the Old Swan, firstly the service is excellent (as always) friendly and helpful staff, the food we had last night was delicious - loved my loaded Mexican fries!, the quiz night last night was brilliant - great subjects and perfectly hosted by Nell. Our whole team had such a fun night (and we laughed the whole night) and looking forward to next month when it’s back on again. This pub is a massive credit to Cheddington and it’s our favourite pub, well done Nell and your team 😊

We are so blessed to have this beautiful pub in our little village of cheddington An absolutely charming and lovely thatched pub along with a very well maintained lawn a covered gazebo area with pretty lights cushioned seats. Indoor dining in the restaurant or in the area if you want a more casual atmosphere. During August there has been fantastic live music outdoors. This gorgeous pub is very warm friendly, welcoming and inviting. The food is always absolutely outstanding, whether it's a roast dinner, fish and chips, salt and pepper squid ( a favourite of mine ) a linguini, Caesar salad or a Thai prawn salad. Everything beautifully presented and all so delicious Nell, Paul and team are the best. Thank you always Highly recommend

Myself and a friend dined at the Old Swan recently and the food was beautiful. I had the slow roasted Moroccan lamb and it was delicious. My friend ordered the iron steak and it was cooked to perfection! Prompt and friendly service, highly recommend.

Sunday lunch was in full swing when we arrived which sadly impacted on several items not able to be served as advertised as we were towards the end of service. Also two of our party's meals were delayed in being served which proved embarrassing for them still eating after several of us had nearly finished our meals.

Fabulous looking pub and inside didn’t disappoint. The food was excellent and the atmosphere was lovely. We had our two dogs with us and the staff went beyond for us and gave them chicken nuggets and chips. Could not be more happier. Well done 10/10

Always like a visit to the Old Swan, it's always busy with locals and incomers alike. Great selection of well kept cask ales, food is excellent and the service is friendly and prompt.

We expected a very busy Sunday lunch service but sadly the background noise from tables all around us spoil the pleasure of our family lunch. We had a late time slot but thought that the service could have been much quicker and it would have been nice if all the meals could have been served together rather than one being particularly delayed by 10 minutes. Shame but there we are. Otherwise the food was reasonable but could have been warmer and the portion sizes were on the large side which would suit many I guess.

I had a lovely evening here as one of a party of 14. The food was good and the restaurant catered for my lactose intolerance well. The whole place was very busy with a nice atmosphere. Amelia, who served our party, was lovely and did a great job. Thank you.

Cosy interior but spacious enough with the tables. Amazing variety of menus with plates for smaller appetites, deals for 2 or 3 courses, larger cooked options or lighter meals. Really appreciated that so each member of the party could have as much as they wanted. Nice atmosphere with lovely bar area and comfy dining tables.

Chose here because it was on our route to an event this evening and had good reviews and a good looking menu. We were there just as the kitchen opened so we had time to eat before needing to move on. The pub was cosy and buzzing with a lovely atmosphere. We were warmly greeted and served by Elyssa, brought drinks and order taken swiftly, and food did not take long to arrive! Our two meals were so delicious we cleaned the plates. Almost went for deserts which sounded great but decided we needed to move. We really do hope we can return soon though to enjoy more courses at a more leisurely pace.

We visited our favourite local family food house (except for McD’s on kids’ birthdays!) for my 71st on a Saturday in January 2024. This is even my 2 year old granddaughter’s fave food place (bar McD), my 6 and 8 year olds love it too, they’ve been brought up here! I’ve had some good food in my time, and this was right up there with the very very best. You might think Asian King Prawn soft shell taco and Flatiron Steak with parmesan truffle skinny fries main might constitute a modern twist on Berni Inn’s prawn cocktail plus steak and chips. You could not be more wrong. I’m not a gusher, trust me, but if something’s really good I make absolutely sure those who created it know that and get the credit they richly deserve. This wasn’t really good, it was way better than that, it was bloomin’ marvellous! Washed down with a pint of Tring Ridgeway and a glass or so of Malbec, I savoured every single succulent flavourful mouthful. Really, I just popped each much anticipated taste into my mouth, sat back and savoured every single chew. It was bliss! I’ve now met Joe, the Chef, to tell him what I thought. A more modest man you could not meet, but what an artiste! I will probably go again and repeat the order. I just might relive my birthday again! It was that good. Congratulations Nell, Emma, Paul, Joe, and all who help you at The Old Swan at Cheddington.

I used to live in cheddington and now a good mate has moved close by. 30 years ago the Swan was a picturesque pub, today it's a marvellous welcoming local. Love it.

This was my first visit and it is a warm and welcoming pub. Staff and service was excellent. Will be visiting again soon

I've been here two times in total now, both with mates. It's a very small and cozy pub and the staff are very welcoming. Food is top quality especially their steak and chips.

Beautiful little pub, visited on a couple of occasions. They have a great selection of red and white wines, we also had a selection of snacks, the truffle fries are amazing!

I have visited The Old Swan on many occasions, Sunday lunches, quick lunch breaks, large group bookings with my work colleagues, etc. and I have never been disappointed with the food or the service by all the staff at The Old Swan. Today I visited for lunch as a group of 4, I often have a burger of some kind as they never disappoint but today I thought I would try something different and I was so glad I did. I had the Moroccan spiced pulled lamb on a homemade flatbread with truffle and Parmesan fries and wow it was amazing. Presentation was 10/10 and the food tasted even better than it looked. Thanks again for another amazing meal!

I am sitting , having just eaten the best roast dinner for miles. My beef was pink and succulent. The toast potatoes sublime. My husband is a potato connoisseur and he says the best . There was a good choice of wine . Staff lovely, with the right level of attentiveness.

Didn't have a booking, so had lunch in the very pleasant bar. I had a BLT from the lunch menu, and my wife had a starter from the main menu. Both very good, ordering and delivery relaxed but friendly and efficient. Bar (on a Saturday) a mix of locals and visitors - very pleasant vibe. Didn't notice any music. Would visit again !

Lunch menu was a fair price and the quality of the food was incredible. So good in fact I had to stay for a few Hawkstones to wash it down. 10/10 Cant fault it!

I had a disappointing experience at the Old Swan this weekend. Upon arriving, I was greeted by a rude waitress who seemed to take pleasure in scolding me for being just 20 minutes late. Her condescending attitude made me feel unwelcome right from the start. Not the best way to start a meal. The food was another letdown. I ordered with hopes of a delightful dining experience, but unfortunately, the dishes turned out to be mediocre at best, sour bread toast and avocado. The flavors lacked any real depth or creativity, leaving me underwhelmed and unsatisfied. To add insult to injury, some diners at my table received noticeably larger portions than others, which only served to accentuate the inconsistency in their service. On the positive side, the pub is set in a charming location and maintains good hygiene standards. However, these factors do little to compensate for the poor quality of service and food that I encountered during my visit. It's truly a shame that such a potentially lovely establishment is being held back by its subpar staff. I left the Old Swan feeling disappointed and disheartened, and I doubt I'll be returning anytime soon. I hope they take customer feedback seriously and improve their service and culinary offerings. Until then, I cannot recommend this place to anyone seeking an enjoyable dining experience.

Good service and friendly staff. I ordered cod but it was not available. I had the lamb instead which was very fatty and disappointing. A certain amount of fat is expected on lamp chops but not like this. We moved outside as it was warm inside but they made us clear the tab first! So we had to start another tab for the table outside. A total pain. We were with our grandchildren and the garden is nice but too small for them to run around - ages 4 and 6. Grandkids enjoyed the chicken nuggets and chips. We normally use their sister pub the Unicorn in Cublington. This has large garden and is certainly more suitable for our family.

Great food & wonderful service - the stuff here is really lovely. A perfect pitch stop if you're cycling through the countryside like we did.

Pure delight. Owner is so committed to the place she was out weeding and sweeping up the patio /terrace when we got there. Will go again as the Lasagne was the best I've ever tasted.

With the weather being hot and humid, we wanted to treat ourselves midweek and dine outside. A great outdoor garden with easily accessible car park, we could think of no better place! The salmon and dill starter was light and flavoursome; enough for generous portions to apply to rye toasted bread. Simply sensational! The calamari starter was also sensational!! Freshly cooked, hot on the plate and complimented well with a fresh and light alveoli. We both opted for the slow cooked pork with black pudding, mashed potato and a rich gravy. The pork was beautifully cooled with the top have a nice crisp crackling. The combination of the pork, black pudding, mash and broccoli all worked amazingly together! Compliments to the chef!

We sat outside with our dog. Dogs are allowed outside or in bar area. Lovely pub restaurant. Friendly service and interior decor is nice. Starters were all delicious and tasted fresh … calamari and white bait. Main courses were good too. A small issue was dealt with professionally by the manager and immediately rectified. The desserts were excellent … cheesecakes and sponge puddings. Lovely outdoor seating area in the sunshine. An enjoyable evening . Thank you.

Fabulous Sunday lunch. As a vegetarian it's great to have the option of a 'roast' with all the trimmings. Friends raved about their lamb and beef meals too. Friendly and efficient service from the lovely staff. Great experience all round.

Arrived for Sunday lunch. Four adults, one baby. Started well, polite and efficient young staff. Beer choice good and well kept. Bright and pleasant interior. Ordered traditional lunches. I don't mind the way they served the meals (in a stack) BUT: The beef composed of two thinish slices that my wife couldn't cut. The lamb was reconstructed shoulder that had been cooked to the point it was tough. The chicken was an absolute disgrace! Looked like a 'mini fillet' and had been cooked to the point where it will not slice but breaks. The cauliflower cheese was brought out (as was the vegetables) in a bowl. It was the same amount we watched being brought out for two. We waited for the other bowl to arrive but it didn't. Had to ask for some more (I felt like Oliver). Shocked look from waitress. Roast potatoes and parsnips were all burnt to varying degrees with a growing pile of cindered vegetables piling up ready for the bin. Terrible. Yorkshire was best thing on all our plates. We did point these failings out in a very polite way to the waitress but she really did not seemed surprised at all. We all understand that the hospitality area has taken a big hit and there needs to be increased revenue to try to balance the books but serving good, tasty, food in the correct quantity is still very important if you want repeat business. This would have been incredibly poor for a 12 quid lunch but it is 20 quid. If you rate a place on whether you would recommend it (as I do). DON'T BOTHER. There are good places out there that are not ripping you off.

Nice country pub ,service ok looked like a good selection of ales although might be worth giving the glasses a clean before serving the the beer ,not sure about letting dogs sit on seats etc however, more the owners responsibility In a food environment

Visited The Old Swan today to carry out some work. All the staff were extremely pleasant and the land lady even made me some lunch on the house. Buttermilk chicken, very tasty. I'll definitely be returning out of work hours. Thanks again

I've visited The Old Swan a few times and it never disappoints. The Beer is always good, in fact, it's the best pint of Guinness my friend has had in a pub not in Ireland! The food has been amazing every time as well. I was dubious about trying a pie as a bad pie is a waste of a meal out, but after I was assured they were good, I tried the Beef & Ale and can happily say it was glorious! The pastry wasn't soggy, and the meat was cooked to "falling apart" perfection. The burgers are just as good and the chips, well they too, are a must.

The pub has a lovely atmosphere and plenty of parking out the front, if full there’s a tennis car park further down. I took my mother for Mother’s Day and had a lovely meal. All four of us had a very generous helping of calamari to start. Mum and I had the roasts which were great and the other two had prawn pasta. They said the sauce was delicious but the prawns were a little disappointing. It’s so hard to get good seafood in this country which is crazy when we’re surrounded by the sea! The prawns were mentioned when asked how the meal was and I had to our surprise we were given two deserts free of charge. A very thoughtful touch! The deserts were wonderful. The treacle tart and ice cream was huge and very nice. Apparently the cheesecake was amazing. All washed down with a very chilled Vinho Verde. We would definitely go again.

Visited the old swan today and what an experience, we had roast beef and shoulder of lamb and I can just say this was one of the best pub roast dinners my husband and I have ever experienced! Not only was the food amazing but the service was also fantastic and very friendly. Definitely recommend this pub to anybody! Will 100% return even though we live 30 miles away.

it has been a long time that i have left any place belly ache full .this did it.amazing meal last night .good rich portions,well cooked and in my opinion very fair pricing. service was amazing and the two waitresses were really nice. really nice gem to find.we went 2 years ago and had a great meal but it kind of slipped of our radar.not now.definitely one of only 3 pubs in the tring alyesbury dunstable area we will eat in.great food fair prices and great service.fairly hard to find given that many places have hiked prices and reduced portions.that is not the way to do it when this sector is so competitive.This is an isolated pub and it packed last night.says it all.
