We had afternoon tea at the Gardeners Cottage a few years ago and it was lovely. So we decided to visit again I. The 3rd August this year. How disappointing we used Two vouchers to the value of £59.90.the afternoon tea presented certainly did not come up to expectations We asked that we did not get anything with cream cheese or mayonnaise but we got them anyway. When we looked at the menu,it did not match what was provided. Certainly not going back a five year old kid would do better.

We found the Afternoon Tea wonderful. There were 11 of us in the party with family visiting from overseas. Nothing was too much trouble from start to finish. We had flight delays so had to rearrange at the 11th hour on the day. Samantha was more than accomodating and made the whole experience 5 star. The theme for the afternoon tea was seen throughout the food. Very quirky and well thought out. Two of our party had dietary needs which again were no trouble. Staff on the day were superb and attentive despite it being a busy event. Very impressed indeed. Booking was a simple message on the phone and a call back from the team. We will be back for the next afternoon tea event. Thank you

We were greeted by the manager although they were very busy and short staffed nothing was too much trouble we did not wait long for our drinks nor our pre ordered afternoon tea . Which was tasty and delicious, especially i liked the freshly cut sandwiches one was cheese and pickle and one was cranberry and turkey. We had hot quiche and hot pigs in blankets ,We did not feel rushed and as it was a themed Alice in wonderland tea it was excellent i also liked the earl grey shortbread biscuit . It is well worth going the food is excellent but you do have to book and quiet a few days are already sold out

Four of us were booked for afternoon tea on Mother's Day. I had read the previous reviews and was in two minds about booking but decided to chance it and went with an open mind and a sense of humour. We were booked for the second sitting at 2.30pm. In hindsight I would have booked for the 12.00pm sitting as the staff were not ready for the second sitting. This resulted in everyone crowding into a small waiting room with limited chairs and then being called by name on an ad hoc basis (not an arrival basis) as and when their allocated table had been set up. I'm sure there is a perfectly good reason for two sittings to be offered rather than individual allocated times, but it is not for the customer's benefit. The manager did explain that they had been let down by staff and that the first sitting had overrun not giving them much time to set up again. We eventually got seated just before 3pm. The room upstairs was previously used as a bedroom and was ok but a little bit bland. We waited quite a while for our drinks order to be taken with other tables that were seated after us being taken first. The pots of tea and the food arrived fairly shortly thereafter. Three different finger sandwiches, a cracker topped with smoked salmon and a savoury flapjack; a small biscuit, cheesecake, eclair and cake plus two flavoured scones with cream and jam each. There was one item (cheesy flapjack) that all of us tried and put back on the plate - tasteless and very dense. Apart from that everything else was nice enough - not out of this world, but nice enough. We ordered more tea at no extra cost. In all, the sense of humour we arrived with stood us in good stead. We actually thought the staff did very well given they were so short-staffed and the issues they had to deal with. They were also very friendly and good-humoured themselves. We weren't in a hurry, so the waiting time didn't cause us a great issue. Did we enjoy it - yes. Was it worth the money - no. £30 a head is pretty steep. £20 a head would have been a more appropriate price. I know the downstairs room with a view of the garden or the garden itself (on a sunny day) probably merits a higher price for a nice setting, but the upstairs rooms are not great. Will we go back - not for a special occasion like that where they are doing two sittings. Maybe if we wanted to treat ourselves to an expensive sandwich on a day when we were visiting the park anyway - but probably only if it was a sunny day and there was a garden table available.

We had a lovely festive afternoon tea today, with a delicious variety of festive-themed cakes and sandwiches. Our son had a child's version which he enjoyed and was very nicely presented, like the adult version. Extremely disappointed. Four of us and a three year old visited this attractive cafe. Pleasant waitress. Took our order quickly and politely. After an interval, food and drinks arrived - for three that is! Our three year old and myself did not get our food. We waited at least ten minutes while the other three in our party waited to eat. Eventually, I went in the cafe (we were eating outside) and asked where our meals were. A look of puzzlement and then an acknowledgement that they had missed two meals. As they had previously taken the money for the food, we in hindsight thought the total was rather little for our order. Immediately, quicker than the food came, the waitress promptly arrived to take the extra money. Get your priorities right I thought. Eventually, after a wait of another ten minutes, our food arrived. We all tucked into our mediocre meal. Nice bread, nice salad. My ham and mustard sandwich was very poor. I didn't find any mustard! The ham was ok. Our three year old 's cheese salad was shocking. It was dry, uninspiring and was presented as if it had been throw together by a complete amateur, and what a measly thin piece of cheese it was. Finally, an apology was offered, but a free drink for the child would have displayed sorrow for such a chaotic meal.

Visited Tatton park, Gardens and Mansion, all quite expensive. Decided on the way out to call in for lunch at the gardners cottage on the grounds. The price for a sandwich seemed quite high, but thought you get what you pay for, so we expected nice food. We were disappointed when the sandwiches eventually arrived. The pork and apple sandwich was lacking in pork, plenty of pork fat (80%) and not much meat (20%). Decided not to get it replaced as we had waited 40 minutes already for the first sandwich to arrive. The bread was very dry and the salad was lacking in any dressing. No dressing was offered to us at all. There seemed to be plenty of serving staff coming and going but seemed very disorganised.

My family visited the gardeners cottage for a lovely lunch. We included my one year old and my mother in law struggling physically. We were made to feel so welcome and our table was so inviting with a lovely simple Christmas table cloth and crackers to pull. We have had an extremely hard month and this was such a wonderful memory for us all, the food was really tasty (we ordered sandwiches and home made soup as well as scones and a beautiful Victoria sponge) and the staff accommodated my serious allergy well picking me a separate soup to one that contained an allergen for me. We were so happy and get feeling both satisfied and Christmasy. Thank you so much to all the staff.

Very overpriced & unfestive afternoon tea sat in a cold & characterless lounge with few decorations & no Christmas music. Log burner was not lit on a cold damp day & we were told it was ‘just for show’! Cheap paper table cloth & crackers. Food is tasty but definitely not worth £25 per head. Staff seem uninterested and inexperienced. They could make it so much better with the quality of food they have. Nicest thing was the Chai tea!!

We booked a Christmas afternoon tea for our friends birthday which cost £25 per head. When we got there we asked for the vegetarian options to be put on one plate and the meat ones on another as to not cross contaminate as we had a vegetarian in our party. We was told bluntly “no we don’t do that” we were all shocked, as were the table next to us by the servers blunt rudeness. Following this we then asked again as it would have meant the vegetarian couldn’t eat anything. This time they said they will “sort somthing out.” This ended up them just bringing it all on the one plate but the veggie stuff on one side (still touching the meat) and the rest on the other (clearly they just separated the pre made food in the back). We then said this was not good enough as this food couldn’t be consumed by the vegetarian as it was all touching. They then said “we don’t understand” as if vegetarianism is not an easy concept to grasp.... we aren’t in 1985. This then turned them kicking up a fuss and finally offering a separate cheese sandwich. All served with a bad attitude. The food was dry, tasteless and not value for money. The service was shocking and this was noted by all others in the restaurant . I would advice to boycot at all costs and go elsewhere. Really ruined our friends birthday!

An outdoor table at the Gardeners Cottage at Tatton Park is a great option for lunch or coffee and cake, and even more so during COVID. You can ring and make a booking, to ensure that a table will be ready for you when you arrive. It’s a very pleasant setting in a sheltered courtyard area; we have visited twice this week, and really love the autumn colours. There is a choice of four or five different sandwich fillings on white or brown bread; they all come with crisps and salad. In fact choice is a good word to describe this cafe - there may not be an extensive menu, but there is a good variety of what they do offer. There is a choice of teas and five different coffee blends, and there is a range of cake options too. The scones are not only tasty, they are the largest we have seen! There are toilets opening off the courtyard , and large outdoor umbrellas over several of the tables. Our food and drinks have always come out in good time, and we have been served by competent, helpful staff. Weekends can be hectic in the park here, but on a weekday, you can treat yourself to a decent walk mainly in solitude, either before or after another treat at this wee cafe.

Booked here as it was my birthday and in case it was raining I didn’t fancy sitting outside with a takeaway sandwich. They seemed to make a bit of a meal of the Covid restrictions compared with other eateries I’ve been too. The room was ok but a bit soulless and the menu was extremely limited....only sandwiches and cakes! Not sure why Covid means they can’t devise a more interesting menu! Service was slow and the sandwiches were fine if unremarkable. The accompanying salad was basic and we had to ask for mayonnaise . Very expensive at £8.95! The worst aspect was having to pay before we had eaten! This and the slow service put us off ordering coffee/cake so anxious not to waste any more time inside we left and had coffee and shared some cake at the take away venue.

This place has a lot of potential but fell a bit short for us. We were seated out the back, with a few empty tables. It was about 25 minutes before anyone came to the table, so quite a long time without being offered a drink! We then ordered food and drinks, which was quite expensive - almost £10 for a sandwich. Before the drinks came, a card machine was brought out and we were asked to pay before receiving any food or drink, I'm not entirely sure why. Maybe people have been walking out because of the wait? The drinks arrived maybe 15 minutes later, followed soon after by the food. The food was really nice, especially the huge scones!Would probably try one of the other food places if we were at Tatton Park again.

We have been here 'countless' of times and every time the coffee and sandwiches are nothing less than gorgeous. All the waiting-on staff are so polite and nice. Nothing is too much trouble.....Today though 10/June/2019 we could only sit outside due to people making reservations. This kind of establishment should be on a 'first come, first served' basis due to the location and in the main walkers who frequent the park. All the tables inside that had reserved were still empty 20 minutes after we had arrived, paid and left. Another negative is that you can't leave a tip on the contactless/ credit card machine. A little strange really considering you can leave a tip this way on all other establishments machines. However if you have not yet visited you will not be disappointed with establishment, food and service.

We presented a massive challenge to the staff as we have almost every food intolerance/allergy in our family including a nut/dairy/egg allergy, wheat intolerance and then add to that 2 vegetarians. We booked for a mixture of lunch and afternoon tea for 8 to celebrate my daughter's birthday, as although the cottage does not normally mix the menus due to our requirements afternoon tea was not the right offer for the whole party. I had a number of e mail exchanges with Alex in order to ensure we were all clear about what we could be served and we placed the order in advance. The staff were very accommodating, service was friendly and helpful, and Alex went more than "the extra mile" to ensure everything was correct. The Stable Yard at Tatton is a very busy pace at mid day in August The food in the self service restaurant looked good and varied, but every one was rushing about "refuelling" as quickly as possible, so we tried the Gardeners's Cottage. As soon as you walked into their little garden you entered a different peaceful world. We were lucky to get a nice table despite not having a booking. We decided on a simple lunch of tea and sandwiches. The sandwiches were big and made out of thickly sliced bread fresh that day from the local bakery and the fillings very generous. My smoked salmon and cream cheese was excellent and the ham one and chicken declared equally good. The tea was loose leaved in a basket in teapots and tasted all the better for been drunk from cups and saucers which did not match. Finally, the staff were all helpful and friendly. What more could you ask for. Well you could have asked for one of their excellent looking cake, but we were all too full.

I have eaten here three times in the past and always been impressed but I felt slightly disappointed this time. To be fair, the two youngsters who were front of house were excellent and the young man in particular was very charming. When we had chosen our food and given the order, a waitress came back a few minutes later to say the tart (which she had told us was summer vegetables) was in fact a different one and was that a problem? We said no, but then she came back again to say that it was supposed to be served with new potatoes (as it said on the menu) but there were no potatoes in the kitchen so could we have either crisps or bread instead. As Tatton has a massive vegetable garden and in fact the garden shop was selling potatoes straight from the plot, we found this extremely odd, to the point of being ridiculous. We were served by the same pleasant young man when we went back for tea and cake later in the afternoon. The place has a real charm about it and my friend, who has never visited before, was very smitten so it's a shame the issues with the menu gave a poor impression on our arrival.

We met friends at Tatton and went into the Gardener`s Cottage for a drink before looking around the gardens+House. The hot chocolates, scones+tea cakes were lovely and, while we were chatting we noticed tables being reserved for lunch. We decided to book a table ourselves as we intended having lunch there anyway. It is a lovely setting ,quite secluded from the main Courtyard with 2 pretty little gardens with tables decorated with pots of plants/flowers , adding to the colourful scene. We chose to eat inside on this occasion as we thought the wooden chairs might still be damp after the recent downpours. Inside is spotlessly clean and has the lovely `English Tea Rooms` feel, with china cups and saucers already on the tables. My friend and I had the Gardeners Deli Board which was like an extra large Ploughmans- very fresh and tasty. Our wives had a chicken salad and a salmon and cream cheese sandwich respectively. Both were very good-- plenty of chicken in the salad and lots of salmon on the sandwich. Service on both occasions ( drinks and lunch ) was pleasant and efficient and we would certainly recommend the Gardeners Cottage.

Popped in for a light bite rather than pay £14 each just to enter the Foodies Festival. Delighted to find there was room to sit out in the delightful courtyard and enjoy the sun ☀️ Very prompt service, must have been looked after by a variety of 3 or 4 young servers, all smiling & very engaging.Nice selection of veggie food at a reasonable price. Highly recommended

Pics attached of our afternoon tea on 26.07.17. Stunningly beautiful is how I would describe TATTON. We went for the annual FOODIES FESTIVAL. Paid £6 to park our car for x3 hours. When we arrived at the entrance to the festival we were stung by the £14 per adult admission cost - so as not everyone on the group was expecting this we sadly did not enter. We thought - let's have a look around the gardens. £7 per adult - another unexpected cost - so again - couldn't convince the whole group to do the activity. We had a photo with the Victorian style carousel. Bought items from the farm shop - as you may expect - VERY pricy. Good day for a treat. As it's half national trust / half council owned NT members do not get free parking. Most areas are dog friendly. There is a large children's outdoor play area. Some cars type rides - and lots of sheep in the fields. The TATTON park flower show was being constructed so ALOT of traffic in and out. We did opt for afternoon tea outside in the gardeners cottage area. For x3 it was £50 - pretty standard. Our server was welcoming and the staff all did seem happy. Food hygiene rating of x5 *'s was noted. A few wasps - the wasp catchers did need refilling with gel. No salt in the salt cellars and not enough artisan sugar in the sugar pots. Had to ask for more jam and butter. Range of teas available. Sandwiches were beef, salmon and egg with watercress. Mini apple tarts, strawberry cream mini cones, carrot cake and opera orange / dark chocolate cakes were my favourite. The opera cake is basically a heavily layered cake - delicious ! Overall this was good value and I would recommend. I believe afternoon tea is served from 2pm onwards. The breakfast menu offered eggs benedict and the hearty brown rolls being served - with the obvious kettle chip accompaniment looked well filled.

This is a nice place to eat, very charming, with attention to details. Everything is in a tasteful cottage theme. The food is nice, maybe not excellent (we had a lemon and tyme chicken salad, which was very good, but the coffee cake with walnuts was a bit heavy and dry). Nevertheless we would definetly go again when in Tatton Park. Downstairs was kind of busy so we opted for first floor, we ended up being the only guests on the whole floor, and we could enjoy the atmosphere in full. Excellent service and free WiFi.

We ate after doing the segway experience at tatton park. Soup for my mum and wife, then a cheese and leek tart with salad and a ploughman's platter. Interesting and tasty and a decent price. Excellent flavour in the soup, butternut squash and coconut. Then three well priced glasses of wine, all decent quality. Good value and a lovely garden to sit and eat in.

We have been before and thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere , service, and food. This time, however, we ordered scones and a drink, the drinks arrived quickly, but the scones 25 minutes later, we asked two young waiters to enquire, but nothing happened until I went inside and spoke to the lady in charge, then, at last, things happened rapidly. The food is good, service pleasant, but obviously the young waiters seem to need some more training. They did give us an extra drink on the house as an apology. It was annoying as I had a meeting to attend later, but it won't stop us returning!

Popped in for Coffee and Scones mid morning, timed it just right prior to a small bus trip! Service was excellent, both the waitress and the lady in charge Moira, who patiently helped me sort an on-line booking where the confirmation had gone adrift into my spam box, much appreciated. Looking forward to going back and enjoying Lunch on 20th July while visiting the flower show!

Booked afternoon tea for six of us - we were told we would have to be seated upstairs. I didn't object, but I would have objected if I'd known that meant we'd be virtually ignored. Food was nice enough but nothing special. One cup of coffee each, had to physically go downstairs to find a waitress to get a second cup - and that was despite staff constantly up and down the stairs within view of us but never popping in to check. Management need to get staff to show initiative and make sure people upstairs are properly served - I'm assuming we paid the same as the people on the ground floor. Wouldn't return.

A peaceful cafe with waitress service. The staff were very friendly and helpful. There is seating upstairs and outside as well. The menu is quite varied with specials. We didn't think the food was as good as it might have been. The quiche was good but a lot of pastry, like a pie. I had a chicken meal that was warmed when I'd rather have a had a hot meal. The food took a long time to arrive and it wasn't that busy, although 3 couples arrived at the same time.Overall a pleasant experience.

We went for drinks at the end of the day. The staff were marvellous and extremely helpful. My wife had gone before me whilst I shopped for venison and Mutton in the NT shop. When I went in I said I was looking for my wife and was told that they had several ladies who might fit that description. It fitted my kind of humour. When we left I forgot my hat and a waitress chased after us with it. I would go there again.

Really disappointed with this café. Gorgeous building, lovely vintage teacups, roaring fire, so far so good. The coffee is fantastic coffee - the Westmorland - unfortunately it was lukewarm at best. Then we ordered food. Good quality, thick, good bacon, nice muffins. Again - cold. Two rashers, barely cooked, stringy fat. No butter. Really disappointed that such lovely produce in such a lovely location could be so completely ruined by staff that seemed to have little skill and little enthusiasm for their job of their customers. I'll bring a flask next time, save myself the best part of forty quid.

We often visit this hidden gem in Tatton Park, on a Sunday morning. We love walking with our lively cocker spaniel in beautiful Tatton park, which we are so lucky to have on our door step! When we get to the Mansion, we look forward to passing every one else in the court yard, and heading to the Gardeners Cottage. We can sit outside in a lovely garden, and enjoy a coffee and a bacon roll with scrambled eggs!! Last time we went I had the eggs Benedict, very tasty! The cottage itself is very quaint and cosy and the garden at the back (where dogs are not allowed), looks over part of the Parks gardens. A lovely place to enjoy breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea!

Whilst visiting the farm at Tatton decided to venture for lunch and found this delightful gem of a place. The cottage is so pretty and beautifully kept. Walking up to the entrance I really felt like I was walking to someone's home and not just your usual eatery and instantly felt relaxed. Someone immediately came to seat us which just so happened to be near to a lovely warm and cosy log fire. We opted for sandwiches for lunch and they were so fresh and tasty. We then followed with scones cream and jam and they were delightful! Again very fresh and ever so slightly warm Mmmmmm. The staff were all very friendly and seemed very happy in their jobs and happy to help. We will definelty be returning on our next visit to Tatton. Thanks for making our day out so enjoyable!

This was my 3rd visit and both have been mixed previously. The owner is very friendly make no mistake. The bacon and scrambled eggs were tasty and hot, we really enjoyed. I can't quite work out my bill though and it was only on reflection when I went out walking I realised a pot of tea for two must be at least £7. The scones are £4.55 and the bacon/eggs £6.55.My bill was £24 ...two breakfast/one scone/pot of tea for two.Based on that it is not good value!!!

I booked for 4 people for afternoon tea over the phone - this was an easy process. Upon arrival the staff at the information hut were lovely to guide us where to go. We arrived at the cottage. Others were waiting because there was no room. After "sliding" past this que we gave our name. The table was ready and set up well. Cups weren't the cleanest, but I'm not fussy (my mum was a little more). The afternoon tea itself was really nice. Served quickly. It wasn't as pretty as I had seen online. Service was nice enough, maybe a little more attentive would have been nice, and the tea itself served in two courses style so more attention. We had a little walk in the courtyard and shops which were pleasant.

Booking is advisable in high season and the food is nice but a tad expensive. The cottage is genuinely cosy and quaint and is an exception to the usual NT apathetic and unmanaged approach to catering. Afternoon tea is traditional and enjoyable. Recommended.

Great small café in the stable yard of Tatton Park. Serves Afternoon teas and lunch's in a pleasant and relaxed environment. I had a wonderful cheese and deli board that was very tasty complete with homemade bread and tarts. A lot of the meat and veg used comes straight from the Tatton estate as well. A complete contrast to the other bog standard self service catering to be found at Tatton.

My wife and I ate lunch here during a day visit to Tatton. Despite it being an overcast and cool day we sat in the walled garden to the cottage. The garden was quiet and the table layout affords conversation privacy. The waiting staff were attentive without being overbearing. The food quality is excellent but perhaps on the slightly pricey side for a cafe styled lunch. But that aside the selection is worth trying. We both had one of the bloomer sandwiches which were filled to generous proportions. I can also recommend the Columbian coffee from the cafetière selection. It had a rich texture with great acidity and delicious chocolate flavour, and was served with a separate jug of steamed milk. For those with a sweet tooth there is a range of homemade cakes to try. If you are visiting Tatton give the Gardener's Cotage a try.

We turned up and our booking had been done for the wrong day, completely our fault! There was 7 of us but Chloe was great helping us to find a table for the 7 of us in the bar area which we were fine with as the bar and restaurant were really busy, so we were very lucky. We had great bar service from Jack, who pulls a good pint. Food was lovely and enjoyed by all, will definitely be coming again. Thanks

We were recently introduced to lite delights! It is a great Deliveroo option, portions are a good size, speedy delivery and has some healthy options too. Burritos, salad boxes and chilli beef nachos are some of our recommendations. Worth a go!
