Garage Lounge in Portsmouth

Visited again today intending a coffee and something light. Ended up having the salmon omelette which was very nice, and accompanied by by a really tasty (and healthy) salad of cherry tomatoes, peppers (I think) and cheese. Being accustomed to inedible salads in other places (no names mentioned!), this made a really nice change... Have recommended you to friends and aiming to pop in again next week...

Poor quality greasy spoon, charging restaurant prices! I had the full English at almost £15, was all cold and over cooked, except the sausage, yes, 1 sausage on a £15 breakfast and that was actually fridge cold. Nothing good at all to say about the food, even the coffee didn't taste good. The service wasn't great too, I asked to not have the beans and tomato with the breakfast, but it was still served on the plate. When I paid at the end, the waiter asked, 'how was your food' I replied, cold! And he just said, 'Huh, okay'. This will definitely be the first and last time going to this cafe.

Been to the garage lounge a couple times over the last week. The food is absolutely amazing and will definitely be back in the future! The milkshakes are so good too! Wish they did delivery!

Lovely atmosphere, just a little quieter in the back room

Quite a nice cafe/restaurant, with kind staff, good food, and cosy decor. We were a bit put-off by how busy it was, but we did go around 12pm so that was to be expected. I was quite disappointed by the complete absence of vegan options. Our server was very kind though and served me the veggie breakfast with no eggs or halloumi (though I'm not certain it was 100% vegan like that, but by this point my partner and I were too hungry and frustrated from looking for somewhere to finally have breakfast to check). The food was delicious, though the portions were on the smaller side. We both thought the hashbrowns were amazing! Overall a nice place, but would be better if they had specific vegan options again - not sure why they were removed altogether, considering the other review about this had a reply suggesting they planned to add more.

A warm welcome was a good start. Service was v efficient. Coffee was on the week side, unfortunately. My wifes granola looked amazing, and she was in raptures. I chose sourdough with avocado and poached eggs. Good on paper, but a little below par when it came... could have done with a bit more avocados, and bread been a bit more toasted. I should have had the full english.....

First time visit, looks good from outside, not good value for money food, goats cheese salad very poorly made, very expensive place to eat very average food. I don’t think I will visit again…

Great food, great atmosphere, we even treated ourselves to a slice of delicious red velvet cake at the end. 4* because aside from the great service from one waitress (blonde lady, in a skirt) who served our food, and checked on our table, the rest of the staff seemed irritated to even be in the building. One was often stood adjacent to the coffee machine, arms crossed looking completely unimpressed, ignoring all of the guests around her. Their negative body language and poor service was the only thing that brought down an otherwise lovely brunch.

They asked us to leave after 1h 15 min.. Really disappointed 😞

Lovely dine in experience for brunch, very helpful in getting me in with my son in his pushchair and placed us in a separate quiet area while he slept - very thoughtful thankyou

Lovely place. Unique & funky vibe. Delicious food, a bigger serviette would be appreciated though, a tiny square ⬛ of one doesn't do it I'm afraid. But it didn't take away from my overall experience 👍😍

The second time having a sweet breakfast must say, although somewhat tasty, I'm not a fan, also muscly avocado no no... loved the smoke salmon, yummy sausage, and overly crispy bacon....pancakes could be more fluffy and lighter, was a bit too thick. Possibly leave the pouring of the syrup to customers... it just like gravy not every one wants it all over the plate.... I will try again...

It’s obviously an amazing cafe with a great atmosphere. They serve some delicious breakfast and drinks . I ordered my favourite breakfast which is Avocado egg with flat white and it was delicious and nice. I would recommend everyone to go there for some great coffee and some atmosphere :)

Lovely little cafe for breakfast. The food was nice and so was the coffee. A little expensive for two of us for breakfast though. Saying that, I will be back next time I’m local for breakfast.

Tasty fresh food with good service. Our favourite dish was the halloumi burger. Would definitely return here for a quick lunch.

Always a pleasure to come here. Firstly, they do the best coffee in Portsmouth...perhaps even Hampshire, a perfectly made latte. Choose large. You won't regret it. Secondly, the food is excellent, with good size portions provided (excellent bacon sandwich, or ham and brie). Finally, there is always a good buzz and atmosphere. Service is good, but could be a bit friendlier...mind you, they're probably pretty rushed!😯 If you've not been, give it a go. I don't think you'll regret it. 😊

Came for the first time on Monday and had a hot chocolate and the Granola, it was good quality and delicious. Came again the next day as I was impressed. Nice atmosphere and lovely waitresses. Always seems to be busy. Highly recommend. One of the best places in Portsmouth for coffee, food etc ..

Great place. Great food and atmosphere but the staff today were simply miserable.

Super location for a short business meeting!

They were able to fit our table of 6 in on short notice which was awesome, but I'd recommend booking ahead as we probably ought to have done! Delicious food, a very unique meal of marmite mushrooms which we'd never seen anywhere before and was really great! Their cheesecake is very generous and decadent and they have good drinks options with a great range of interesting teas. The decor is also really fun!

Lovely place with Great food and really good coffee which can be a rarity I think. Service a little slow hence the 4 stars for service rather than 5 but the staff all really friendly and helpful so no real complaints at all.

We ordered the white chocolate and berry cake, the coffee and the cakes were really yummy!

Editing my 5 star review from 5 years ago to say that this place doesn't quite have the charm it used to. I'm not sure if it was just because it was a bank holiday but the staff were a bit miserable and the pancakes aren't what they used to be. Beautifully presented, don't get me wrong but the consistency was a bit chewy like they'd been reheated. Completely accept that's sometimes how they have to be done but it was very obvious. Meal didn't feel like it was worth the 20 minute drive and the 35 quid it cost.

First visit meeting friends for the first time in a long time. Perfect atmosphere. Excellent service and food .... highly recommended.

Food is really tasty, we had breakfast twice at that place. But it was very strange that both of our tables were not stable and were shaking.. it should takes 5 minutes to fix a table..so it is more comfortable to sit and had a food...coffe was really good!

A wonderful place. I had the salmon omelette which was beautiful and the home baked cakes are incredible. The staff are excellent and I look forward to our next visit there soon.

I had the French toast with an added side of bacon and that was the best bacon that I've ever had. The service is fantastic. The coffee is delicious. Highly recommend this place makes me miss living in Portsmouth!!

I often frequent the garage lounge. It is a lovely venue if you are not concerned about price.

The Garage Lounge is a great cafe in Southsea that has some delicious cakes and other sweet treats. We had the Biscoff Cookie Pie and a Raspberry and Lemon cake slice. The coffee (espresso) was pretty good too. The venue has a nice and relaxing vibe.

Couldn’t recommend enough. Best breakfast I’ve had in maybe forever? Honestly it was up there. Delicious coffee, lovely surroundings

Great welcoming place to go for tea & cake at 4pm on a Sunday (when most other cafes would be scowling at you to make you go)

Absolute fave spot for brunch, coffee and cake, or simply to sip a delicious freshly squeezed orange juice while casually doodling! The staff is lovely and the food is always healthy and hearty! Best coffee in the area too - and the soundtrack with jazzy bossa nova really is the cherry on top!

Really good food and coffee. Consistently good quality and service. Varied menu with good cakes and teas too. I've been an occasional customer since 2006. Its great to see the success of this business, it is not by luck and very much deserved.

Went here for breakfast on a Sunday morning with my friend, lovely place, decorations are so adorable, cute teapots cute teacups in vintage style, love them. Good very delicious too. Fast service despite big crowd busy morning, will definitely return, the cakes look delicious I want to try them next time!

Really good service, were sat quickly and served within good time. I had the breakfast, tea and a juice, friends had french toast and marmite mushrooms. All beautifully served and absolutely delicious! Good prices too, about £11 each.

Went for some food was super shocked by the way the lady treated her staff was like they were slaves. Really horrified by the fact that she treated those poor young people like that. Please don’t support this cafe if you are it’s like supporting modern day slavery!

Everyone must know about The Garage Lounge by now! Personally would say that The Garage Lounge offers THE BEST hot chocolate in Portsmouth (highly recommend). You know what you are getting when you eat here, they always deliver top quality food that never disappoints. Breakfast/ Brunch/ Lunch, you can’t go wrong at The Garage Lounge. Seasonal Sweet Treats and Classics, we order the Benedict and Florentine via Ubereats, a nice place for espresso. Our visit mid-aug for breakfast was a perfect end of summer, start of autumn moment. As a sugar-addict these Crumpets and French Toast tickled the fast carbs very much! (Crumpets; fresh raspberries, raspberry coolies, lemon curd. French toast; fresh figs, poached pears, sauces: maple syrup and clotted cream)

We absolutely loved this place. We stopped for a take away cappuccino yesterday and after drinking one of the best coffees ever and seeing the rest of the food...today we have come back for a brunch and it has not disappointed us at all!!! The staff was absolutely lovely too. We paid £21 for 2 people...2 savoury brunches and granola with yogurt and fruit, everything was delicious

the only reason it's not 5 is because I came in at like 4:28 and it seemed like they weren't too happy that we came in close to closing

I love coffee from You guys! Especially when lovely lady from „grab and go” make it. She’s always nice and smiley, giving a kick of positive energy in the morning. Combine this with her coffee and You will have perfect start of Your day, even if it’s monday :D Highly recommend! PS: My cat also like it😅

Been here twice in the last 2 years. Would defo go more and recommend! Lovely brunch options to choose from and healthy too! Coffee is perfect!! Alternative milks too! Only thing I will say is apparently you have to book now but on the website it says you don’t have too, also it took quite a while for the drinks to come on my most recent visit but still good.

I would prefer keep this lounge a secret but alas ..very popular with university and locals. I'm going back again next week

Lovely latte and comfortable plush seating. Parisian style dining. Felt very luxurious and classy. There is also a delicious assortment of cakes and biscuits. Worth a visit if you are staying in the Portsmouth area. Rachel was a lovely waitress with a nice smile and efficient manner.
