The Southsea Deli in Portsmouth

We had a private birthday party on a Saturday night. Lovely open area with friendly professional staff All the food was beautifully prepared and presented and of excellent quality. Highly recommended

The Southsea Deli is situated in an old bank. I visited after completing a bike ride with my mates… I have been there several times now but all before I started doing the reviewing malarky. The surroundings are pleasant and always clean. The staff are always courteous and work hard to make your visit a good one. Then food is always of a high standard and very tasty… All in all, a nice place to visit and I am sure I will do so many times in the future. Some of my reviews may seem unforgiving but I come from a time when everything was not “Awesome” and “near enough was not good enough”. So, if I say something is “Excellent” that is because it is somewhere better than most others… and well worth considering visiting. I hope this review was of help, please consider following my travels & reviews in the autumn of my life.

Gone downhill over the past couple of years. What once was an Albert Road institution as the Fat Fox, The Fox is picking up on the worst tactics of overpriced London bars. BEWARE they operate a so-called "dynamic" pricing strategy which can have you paying huge prices for your bog-standard draught drinks after a certain time. This is **after** you've paid an entry free of £3(!) after 10pm or £5 after 11pm. Yes, depending on the DJs and the crowd, you can have an alright time. But it is no thanks to the establishment that seems like they're ripping you off if you just want to go in for a drink or two. Much better off trying a nearby, more humble, business that values custom and you get quality at the same time.

Closes later than most bars and you can play pool

Great home prepared food. Lots of choice including vegan. Very reasonable prices. Friendly staff. We will return another day🙂

Every time I have gone to the fox I have a terrible evening but this night takes the cake. I am disabled and was attempting to use the disabled toilet when a member of staff opened the door, shouted at me for knocking too loudly and left, locking the door behind her so I couldn’t use it. Disgusting behaviour and a terrible place.

I didn't eat. This place is class.. Ran by an amazing team and one of the best nights out in Pompey

The perfect day. We recently celebrated our wedding at The Southsea Deli and we couldn’t be happier with our choice. From start to finish Daniel made the planning and event seamless. The food was stunning (with our options adjusted to cater for both veggie and GF), our guests were so well looked after by the amazing staff and our wedding cake was just beautiful. Decent service, decent prices for the area, and an excellent monthly comedy night!

The place was empty and the bar staff who were on their phones outnumbered us. I imagine it gets busier later in the evening but you could hear a pin drop in there

Disappointing I moved to southsea a year ago. A friend bought me a beautiful south sea deli hamper with the most delicious local cheeses. When we walked the area to get our barings we stopped at the deli and grabbed a fab coffee- the best locally by far! I immediately put myself down to do one of their cookery evenings but over the last year found myself our of sync. However… in so much as the above, by contrast as a local with a townhouse one road back from the sea, we walk the promenade of a weekend, finishing at their deli truck. Conversation always comes to if we bother. Not due to the quality of the coffee as that is always good but down to the attitude! If I ever see the blond owner now I just don’t bother! On several occasions over the last year I have tried to engage but his level of superiority is just boring!! I don’t need to engage or try to be friendly but he always responds like he’s doing me a favour with his monosyllabic responses! It has on a couple of occasions become an interesting past time (when I can be bothered), testing if he can be as arrogant as the last time! He never fails. I mentioned what a beautiful day it was the last time and he responded like I was a tourist moron and turned his back. You sell coffee and a couple of cakes , maybe to occasion panini or focaccia with pesto… you are by no means the river cafe or celebrity chefs. You are local business owners! If you don’t like hospitality leave it to someone else. A superior attitude is utterly boring when served with my £4.50 weekend (end of the Promenade) coffee.

A lovely place for a light breakfast. We opted to go here to start a long weekend. We had the bacon baguette and my wife added an egg, with two coffees came to around £15. It is a lovely, open place with varied seating arrangements, accommodating groups, singles etc. staff are all very friendly and helpful bringing our coffees over and then, in quick order our breakfast. My bacon baguette was delicious, light, crusty baguette that was easy to bite and chew, not always something you get with a baguette. The bacon was good quality and a healthy portion. Overall a lovely place and we will certainly be returning. Thank-you all..

It's has so much potential and the staff do there best why exclude a person that serves the public and keep them safe on her only night out during the festive season I witnessed it all and not at any point was there any disrespect what so ever to any one attending last night or to any staff. From what I can remember on my first visit it was busy, open late if you need one for the gutter.

My business arranged a pizza and pasta making workshop as a teambuilding event with The Southsea Deli. What a brilliant night, the staff were amazing, the hosts so knowledgeable and what fun we had. Would highly recommend if you're thinking of booking. Thanks for a fab night The Southsea Deli!

Best place to catch up with old friends.

Nice pub with a good selection of beers, pool table and even comedy nights. Whats not to like!

Good sized pub with quirky decor. TVs for sports, pool table and area for DJ or live bands.

The so called DJ absolutely sucked last night. He literally put a CD on then disappeared every 2 mins. No requests (obviously, as he would need to press stop on his disc and actually have to mix some music) - what a joke..

Cool place to go to on a weekend night for drinks. It's lively and has a nice atmosphere when it's busy at the weekend. The cocktail selection is cool too, maybe a little on the pricey side but worth it, plenty of options as well. I visited recently with a large group of 7 of us, service was friendly, though most of my party didn't enjoy the food which was apparently cold. I didn't eat myself however so can't really comment much further here. The pool tables also were covered up and pushed aside when we visited. Wasent a huge deal really, but it meant we didn't stay as long as we intended to. Still highly recommend visiting though.

Great place to go visit and looking forward to visiting again the next time I am back in Southsea 🙂

Not allowed draw strings short in what is essentially a sports bar

The easiest 5 stars awarded in a long time. Attention to local, fresh ingredients of the absolute highest quality. Forget Waitrose and big brand buying power. Here you will find the finest Italian deli-style ingredients set in a cafe environment. Watch out though, the building doesn’t look like a deli on the outside! If you enjoy really good food, come here! I had a bacon bap with ricotta. The fabulous bread was cooked in-house. I never realised bacon, ricotta, a smear of softrito(?) and drizzle of olive oils would make such a fabulous combination.

In love with this place!! The staff are all wonderful, so welcoming and hospitable. The food is delicious, great selection and variety. Visit often and it’s worth it every time! Thank you southsea deli

Regular visitor to the deli and the coffee van. The breakfasts are amazing in the cafe and a great atmosphere sharing tables with like minded souls. Dogs welcome and cyclists bringing in their pride and joys.

Stumbled across this lovely deli whilst staying in Southsea for the weekend. Service was great and the staff were extremely helpful. Food was tasty and was a great choice for lunch. Would definitely recommend.

Good bar, good music good fun 🙂

For a Friday night, very good music on the dance floor and reasonable prices. BUT, the restrooms are like an ice rink, and every door which had opened has smacked me in the head. It's hard to enjoy yourself with a bruise on your forehead.

Great place with friendly door and bar staff. The band on Friday night rocked the joint. One of the best Indie Rock cover's band I've seen.

Thought the place was nice. Staff were awful, named and shamed themselves at a pub quiz and they were rude, loud, and swore at every given moment. Turned a friendly pub quiz into a doghouse. Not a great reflection on the business so I won’t be returning

Lovely tarts and frittata with the most crispy, fresh and vibrant salads. BUT! Amazing cheese board!!!!!!! Come here for lunch. Glass of wine and enjoy.

Whilst on holiday, visited on a Thursday night with my Dad for a couple of drinks. We were staying in a local place so this place was ideal. Was very quiet, assume due to midweek and Covid restrictions. Bar staff were very friendly, welcoming and adhered to COVID rules. Very attentive and good selection of drinks. Drinks reasonably priced given the location. Plenty of TVs showing sports channels. Covid requirements at time of visit: tack & trace, table service, masks required, paper menus.

I bought a selection of salami which are all made in this Country and were first class. We also bought the roasted vegetable quiche which was equally good.

Good service, and a good amount of space, the staff were friendly and helped us out with a big group of people. The prices are good for cocktails as they do two for £10. They also do food at reasonable prices.

Waited 45 minutes for a drink, after we were asked for the second time our drinks because they lost the order the waiter decided to go for a cigarette passing in front of us and not caring we didn't had our drinks yet... We just left not worse it.

Love the Deli. Has a nice range of produce to take home as well as on the spot food. Bought some sauces and chutney on this occasion plus some Meon Valley cider which is very drinkable. Only downside is that I wish it was easier to park, have to rely on finding a space in the side streets.

Food came early and still hot, all alterations made in the comments were done perfectly, I asked for extra cheese and it came at no extra cost best take away I've had in over a year! Rare to have a large order come perfect x

Have ordered food 2nyt . 8:40 on the just eat app .. have no way to cancel order , it's gone 10 no one is picking up phone , will not recommended to anyone ... Stay clear of the joke of a place ( they just take your money and ignore you ) Be warned!!!! Disgrace

Just ordered a takeaway from here during lockdown and wow! We had the meal day the burgers were absolutely the best takeaway burgers I've ever had!! It was real good delicious pub grub in a takeaway box if 100% recommended this to anyone fancying a cheeky takeaway

We ordered some food from Deliveroo, delivered hot and quickly. Pizza was stone-baked and really cheesy! The burger was also nice and the patty itself was huge. Very fair portion sizes and good value for money. Highly recommended ☺️

Went here for the first time in ages. Always liked it in here but it's got so expensive

Good place for a nice chilled evening, free entry and also the drinks were reasonably cheap and weren't watered down. Music was good, you could even request a song from the DJ.
