I’ve been ordering from this restaurant for years and just wanted to review to post my appreciation, the food is amazing I recommend the dhansk. they do a great delivery deal rice , Bombay , curry and onion bahji with popdaom and salad and mint sauce for £14. Really well cooked chicken . Exceptional customers service and they remember you and your order each time. Honestly couldn’t recommend more so 10/10 as far as I’m concerned thank you guys . I’ve also been into the restaurant and received great service

Read a lot of reviews to find a decent Indian restaurant and Ganges came up, we left disappointed, it wasn't very busy and took 40 minutes for the food to come out which was average, we had to sit and eat our meal with our coats on because it was freezing in there, and no alcohol was allowed.

Terrible service, made an order was told it would be with us at 7:35, no sign of it by 8 so called to get an update, they told us it had left the takeaway, still no sign of it at 8:25 so rang to cancel order, the lady was unapologetic and then blamed it on us calling a different restaurant which we most certainly didn’t. At least when you make a mistake have the decency to apologise and not blame the customer, won’t be using again and being local have heard from other people this establishment has been going down hill for a while but thought we would stick with them and give it a go.

We popped in here whilst on holiday in paignton for the bank holiday, tbh we wernt expecting too much as I think the decor is very dated and does let it down, curb side appeal needs to be worked on, but ive got the say the service of the lady was brilliant, and she was accommodating and very welcoming, the food was beautiful, & high quality. We would of left 5 stars if the decor was more modern. We would recommend and if we go back would definitely eat here again.

Local residents, this being the third over the last five years. We decided to take our brother here, as it was a special occasion, as he had come from Spain. I wish i hadn't of bothered,i would have had better service from the local chippy. I think they are living in the past to think they can get away without waiters, yes it is Covid, but front of house was rubbish, First thing out of the ladies or owner mouth was had i BOOKED ! Having waited twenty minutes without a drink ,i had to ask for one,as the daughter hadn,t asked us. She was taking orders over the PHONE ! perhaps they should stick to being a takeaway. Those people probably would not share a toilet with the staff and there odours and having his apron still on ! OUT OF ORDER,the toilet should have been. Very slow service , that's when we should have walked ! the raitha sauce was like a soubet with cucumber slices or chunks ( thats not how to do it ,and they know that ! Prawn puree that i could have bounced off the floor ! VERY GOOD nan breads though and the balti where acceptable WHAT HAS GONE WRONG ,think twice before going ,believe me !

We telephoned to book a table, and were advised that there was no alcohol for sale or permitted on the premises. Fair enough. We ordered zero alcohol beers and a jug of tap water. The tap water arrived in a one litre jug (no ice), and appeared on our bill at £3.95!!!!The meat in our curries was in matchbox sized lumps, the king prawns were too rubbery to cut and had not had the intestines removed. The vegetable side curry was a ratatouille (no discernible curry). There were no hot towels available.Although were not charged for one main course (see meat and prawns above), it was quite expensive.A pity, because the waitress was helpful (but constantly apologetic) and it has the potential to be much, much better.

Really lovely curry - very flavourful, really good portions (enough for two good-sized meals) and lots of meat in the portions. Also allowed us to slightly adapt dishes (I.e. add spice) and were very helpful on the phone. We couldn’t find a menu online so just called and told them what we wanted - they also delivered to Stoke Gabriel for a very reasonable small fee. Highly recommend

Called this restaurant at 9.15pm on New Year's eve to see if they could give us a table. We had previously booked online at Ghurkas but they obviously don't check their bookings and they said on the night that they were closing at 9 when we had booked for 10pm. Luckily for us though as we had a fabulous meal at Ganges. A delicious chicken tikka Balti for me and a lovely mixed tandoori sizzling platter for my husband. Poppadoms and dips were great but the star of the show was the naans. Best we've ever had and we eat at a different Indian restaurant every week on our motorhome travels. Staff all lovely and very efficient. Highly recommended and we will definitely return when next in the area. Thank you Ganges

Four of us went to Ganges over the Cgristmas period and when I say never again I mean it!We were the only four in the restaurant and found the place very cold so sat by a mini heater plugged in by a table. I went to the toilet to wash my hands up some steep extremely slippery stairs that was absolutely filthy, so really, we should have left then. The service to say the least was slow ans actually not really a service. We were given menu's and left to make our choices whilst our drinks were being poured. So that's where it started to go wrong! After waiting for some time for the waitress to take our order she finally arrives and as she starts listing our choices she just disappears to take a telephone order!!??On her return we asked why she had done this and she said 'well I had to take the call as no-one else would'? Not great service. So now our order placed we wait and wait and wait...but still with no other customers in the restaurant!Eventually, about 40 minutes later, the meals arrive. All okay, NO, one was a wrong meal altogether and the others thrown in dishes in great clumps and barely warm and all were just bland and tasteless. When we asked about the wrong meal, the reply, 'well it looks like the right dish!'At this point around 10 customer come in and are seated next to us and are treated like royallty with the waitress running around pampering to their every need.We asked for our bill and again waited and waited and when we asked again the waitress had the audacity to say, 'I'm serving these' to which were we fuming got up paid the bill and left.Would I recommend.....NO! There is another excellent Indian restaurant in the town so I suggest you use that one.

Well, tried to place our order but waitress left us half way through to answer phone, even though we were the only ones in there. Food took an age to arrive with no apologies, wrong food arrived for 1 of us, it was tepid and bland. Looked a complete mess on the plate, chef just threw it into bowls and waitress just plonked it on table. Out of the 4 of us the meals were mediocre but did fill a hole. No question about how food was until we had nearly finished as too busy sorting take aways. When asked for the bill we were told to be patient as they were serving another table. Toilets disgusting and stairs very dangerous and slippy. Staff rude and overall an extremely bad experience which we will never frequent again. Very poor - never recommend.

Having frequented Ganges since moving into the Bay in 2005 I was very dissapointed tonight when my wife & myself went out for a pre Christmas meal. The food was still good quality but we were dissapointed in the service & general state of the building. When we entered the building via the main door we found the door to be very ill fitting & had to be pushed very hard to gain entry. The door subsequently failed to close behind us. The restaurant was very cold & an electric oil filled radiator running from an extension lead was alongside the table next to us. Having just completed our meal, the head waitress was passing our table when the extension lead that was supplying the oil hater exploded next to my foot with a loud bang & acrid smell of electrical burning. The extension lead & heater were hurriedly cleared away & half a pint of Kingfisher appeared on my table which I had to turn down as I was driving & it would have taken me over the limit. When I paid the bill nothing more was said which I found very disappointing as I am an electrician by trade & know just how dangerous the situation was & differently things could have turned out..

We were staying in Torquay but decided to drive to Paignton to try this restaurant and were glad we did. Having parked the car in an area which was certainly not particularly inviting we were not expecting much. However, the food was great and the service similar. A few items were on the menu which I had not seen before in Indian restaurants. For example, my starter was a boiled egg wrapped in spiced mincemeat which was covered with an omelette and I would happily order this again. I had a lamb curry which although a little chewy was delicious. If I had to find cause to complain it would be with the sweet menu. However, this is not restricted to this particular restaurant but to most Indian restaurants nowadays. They only serve standard ice creams instead of traditional Indian deserts such as gulab jamons or jalebi but maybe there isn't enough demand with many trying to cut down on sugar intake. That aside it was a very enjoyable experience and the next time I'm in the area I will certainly eat there again.

Very dated decor, toilets needs a refurb. Mains were over £11 each then you had to add rice/naan as extras. Poppadoms £1 each and then £5 for the dips to go with them! 4 meals, the food came to over £75. These are top restaurant prices. Food was ok, but just far too expensive. Most Indians charge half this price and are just as good. Prices don’t reflect the ambience of the place.

We went here for dinner earlier this evening (04/08/18), after noticing it was fully air-conditioned (essential in this hot weather). We hadn't booked but it wasn't busy so we were allowed to select a table for two. After getting our drinks ordered I told the waitress that I was vegan, and needed suggestions on which dishes were ok to eat. So she kindly gave me a small leaflet on the dietary information for all dishes on the menu, in terms of which had gluten, egg, milk, nuts, ghee (butter). This was very helpful, because it supplied me with enough information to make the right choice. Other than poppadoms, veg samosa, chicken tikka starters, we had chicken tikka balti with cheese naan, and veg rogan with plain rice. The curries are fairly generous, and the cheese naan was quite big even my partner was struggling to finish it! His curry had rice to go with it, according to the menu, so it was just as well he asked to have the naan only. My portion of rice was just right, so I managed to finish that with my veg rogan. Although the curries were medium heat, we noticed that that they were actually quite mild, and would've liked a bit of chilli heat typical of medium curries. Other than that the service was impecable, and as a vegan it was good to have staff making sure my requirements were seen to as a customer.

We ordered our starters and main courses. The glass of white wine was awful and very cheap tasting! After STILL waiting for 1hour and 5 mins 2 of the starters came out and to our horror the meat was cold!! I'm a local resident and hadn't visited Ganges for many years but had good memories of great meals and service so as my Daughter was visiting with her boyfriend for the weekend, decided on a return. On being seated at our reserved table, it wasn't even layed up and it was done while we were trying to talk! Not a good start! Our poppadoms arrived promptly enough but we had a long wait for our starter. After being in their for 1 hour and 40 minutes we were still waiting for our main courses !Even during this time the drinks orders were very lengthy in arriving and not all of them arrived at the same time, they kept forgetting one or two. When I politely pointed out the length of time waiting for our main courses was far in excess of acceptable, the waitress started giving the usual inaccurate excuses like being busier than usual/ lots of takeaway meals being ordered over the phone etc instead of fronting up and accepting it was not acceptable, apologising even! The restaurant wasn't over busy as she tried to excuse away!My order for a lamb dish was also wrong, I received a chicken version!Admittedly the waitress said they wouldn't charge for my main and when the bill arrived a further £10 was deducted. The evening was quite spoiled and we all felt aggrieved. My overall assessment is :Initial presentation of a reserved table.... awful.Initial presentation of our waitress.... very good.Price of drinks..... rip off.Price of food..... Expensive and over priced for the quality which was just average at best!Efficiency of service...... poor.Length of time between courses...... Far in excess of acceptable. Will I recommend Ganges to friends or return again?..... No way !!

However the chicken in my Karahi was poor. Normally the chicken is succulent and falls apart, last night was different. Ganges is one of the more expensive Indians in Paignton so the quality should follow.

Had dinner there with a pal. We had a Biryani each - one Tandoori Chicken and one Vegetarian. They were very good - huge portions! We ordered two side dishes but couldn't eat everything! Had an interesting beer - Bangla? The service was a bit slow but the waitress kindly explained that 12 diners all arrived at the same time! Will return.

Came here to eat with a group of friends while we were down in Paignton for the weekend. Absolutely amazing food. Big portions, reasonably priced and good service. Only negative point was the price of the alcoholic drinks they serve. Will definitely go again next time we're down there.

We actually went out to go to the Palm Tree and found it was fully booked, Fortunately the manager recommended the Ganges instead and I am so glad he did. The food was great. I don't usually eat the vegetable curry that seems to come with every meal in Indian restaurants but this one was amazing. The portions were big. I wish we had order one naan between two as they were so large.

We ended up in this restaurant because the one recommended to us was fully booked. However, we weren't disappointed! The food was excellent (would highly recommend the baltis) as was the service (friendly and prompt). It was mid-week and out of the holiday season so very quiet and therefore not exactly atmospheric (softer lighting might help) but don't let that put you off. Would happily recommend!

We recently had a short break in Paignton and were looking for an Indian restaurant, if like us this is what your looking for.Well you can do no better than this restaurantA superb meal and very very friendly service. Without a doubt this is one of the best Indian meals that we have had, absolutely no complaints what so ever. The price was in our opinion very reasonable as well. Still looking for the relative of this establishment in our local area as we would hope that they have the same great service and cuisine.

As per my stepdaughter; food was amazing and I loved the people and I loved the atmosphere and I loved the people who cut me up a lemon when I wanted a lemon. As per me... who is a grown up... I concur with my stepdaughter apart from adding that they made it lovely for my mum who had a birthday and happily gave us a doggy bag of joy which was mostly half our food we couldn't eat.

We came in on a very busy Saturday evening where the restaurant was packed and phone ringing all night for takeaways. Even though there was slight wait for food due to being soo busy, it was well worth it. Large portions, reasonably priced and tasty food. Will be back when in the area again.Make sure to book to avoid missing out on this delicious food!

Goodness me, you guys have really lost it. We used to order a takeaway fortnightly and it was fabulous. We noticed a decline and went elsewhere for a while. Upon coming back to try again, we ended up with dishes we hadn't ordered and dishes missing. The contents of the curry dishes left only baby food to be imagined. The photos speak for themselves. What an absolute waste of money, 80% if it is in the bin.

A disappointing meal , we haven't been to the Ganges for a number of years and our meal last night hasn't done anything to entice us back in the near future. We ordered poppadums and the pickle tray. I usually opt for the raita and mango chutney, the first taste of the raita killed my tastebuds as it was ladened with hot chilli!! The lime pickle tasted mild in comparison. My fried chicken biryani was over cooked and very dry. I have no complaints about the quantity of food however the quality wasn't there.

Its a shame that our eating experience was somewhat let down by the service? The restaurant seemed short staffed and there was a party of people monopolising service so we had to wait a while before we were asked what drinks we required. Also the take away service seemed to take priority over the clearing of used table? It was a real shame as the food was excellent although the drinks were somewhat over priced.

Be prepared for large portions. The Nan breads are like 12" pizzas and all dishes seem about double the size of many other Indian restaurants. Aside from the size, the food is well flavoured and has a delicious balance of spice and taste. The meats are not overcooked and are juicy and tender.Staff are attentive and polite.Well worth a visit.

Butter chicken extremely tasty- very tender chicken with delicious sauce. Kashmiri Prawn likewise. Good size portions. Restaurant was very busy whilst Chinese and Turkish restaurants in the area were empty. Obviously a lot of locals use it as a takeaway and we can see why. Evidently has been open since the early 60s. Good service from friendly staff, -would recommend if holidaying in the area.

Great food, large chunks of chicken and very tasty sauces. The decor looked very nice with all the etchings in the glass frames. The service was fast on a busy night. Good value and in a previous review it mentions they charge for pickles! What does he (I assume) expect??? They don't get them for free so I don't see this charge as unnecessary.

I have eaten curries all over the UK, East Midlands, Manchester, Glasgow, London and numerous other cities for far too many years to mention but this is the first time that I have ever been charged for the chutney, pickle and dip that comes with the poppadoms, in fact in some restaurants the poppadoms and dips are complimentary. When I tried to discuss this exorbitant charge with the owner, he just smirked and shrugged his shoulders as if to say, well you are only a tourist and you won't ever come back anyway so what do I care. Also the chicken pieces, which were tough and bland seemed to be rather strange shapes and sizes but as we left most of our curries anyway this didn't bother us that much. If Paignton doesn't have a better curry house that this one then I can see why an earlier contributor said he prefers Thai food.

This is a traditional Indian Restaurant with linen table-cloths and courteous friendly service. The food was also very nice and plentiful. Not a hint of formica or fusion food here! There are glass partitions between the tables each individually etched with beautiful Indian scenes. We have been looking for a nice Indian restaurant since moving to Torbay and this seems to be the one for us.

In my opinion the food is only what you'd get in the average high street takeaway, the curries and vegetable dishes all tasted the same to me,I was asked if I wanted mint sauce with our starters leading me to think that this was an extra its normally served alongside.I think there are better restaurants in paignton.

This is my favourite Indian restaurant. However , we had a take away recently and we were disappointed that we received meat samosas , when we ordered vegetable. As vegetarians this has been most unnerving and I am hesitant to order a take away again. I would however , return to the restaurant its self for a meal.

Hi had a takeaway from here recently and I was told I could not order chicken tikka even though it was on the menu so ordered shashlik which for some strange reason had to come with a veg curry that i did not want . All the food was under cooked nan bread was nearly raw and when I checked against the takeaway menu I had also been overcharged by more than two pounds ( think I was charged eat in price for takeaway ). Needless to say I will not be going back here .

Bad service, £75 of foid ordered, over an hour late, no updates and then 2 wrong dishes in order (a king prawn butter turned up as a chicjen tikka masala, a much cheaper dish and one we already had in our order !). I found the sauces very thin. No helpful customer service at all.
