Gandhi Indian Takeaway in Fareham

Ordered online and collected in person. Great selection & choice. Friendly staff. The food was well-packed and excellent quality. Would use again.

We moved to the area 4th October 2023. Had 2 takeaways from Gandhi Indian , and 2 takeaway from the Chinese in Blackbush Road, in first week, and at least once a week since, and they were 5 star. Today had an Indian, chicken Jalfeize, pilau rice, ordered barjee's and Garlic Nann. Not only did they get the order wrong, the food was lukewarm NO Barjee's and a dish that was taste less, had cauliflower (that we both hate) in. Very very surprised that in 4 months , it seems to gave gone down, in flavour, taste, and quality. Won't be going back.

Wow, where do I even begin!! Everything about this place was exceptional!! One of the best Indian takeaways I’ve had and trust me I’ve had a lot. The flavours of the food were close to perfection and the hospitality of the staffs were amazing, the customer service was on an another level. Written appraisal is not enough for this restaurant honestly, highly recommend this place!! Thank you and can’t wait to visit again.

Have used several Indian takeaways and restaurants in the Fareham and Gosport area over the years but this takeaway is without doubt the best in terms of quality and flavour. Decent sized portions and always a warm welcome from Abu and his team. Thoroughly recommended.

This spot gives extraordinary service and yummy meals. One of my favourite take away restaurants around town. The meals served rapidly and the rates were reasonable. Highly recommended.

We ordered a selection of food last night for 12 people at quite short notice for my husbands birthday . We live fairly locally but our other friends live further away. Every single person said it was the best Indian they'd ever eaten. It was so tasty. A few people said they can never eat a whole portion and it was the first time that they ate the lot ! The staff are always friendly. Please give them a visit .

I havent used the Ghandi takeway as my local Indian for quite a long time, as the meal I had a few years ago was sadly not that good. However, I felt enough time had past to try them once again, and also walking past the takeway a few nights ago, I noticed how busy it was inside. So the Service was very good, I felt very welcomed, and the gentleman behind the counter was very friendly. Cost of the curry itself (paying for three people) was also fair and the portion size I would also say was good as well. The meals themselves were quite bland, I would not say it was great, nor would I say that was it awful either. It could have been more flavored, and also certainly more warmer (this was including the sides that we ordered). Adding further that when I went to collect the order this evening. it was also very quiet. For me, I will not be using this takeway for an Indian in the near future.

The food tonight was excellent, my children tried a new dish tonight on their recommendation. The Tanzam Murg was fantastic. If I want a change to how hot dishes are, I’ll definitely mention it because they are really accommodating here!

Nothing was Indian about that place. It was the worst food I had ever tasted. If you are Indian and think that it is an Indian outlet, please don't go. You will be disappointed.

We have been ordering from Abu's place for around 25 years, and pretty much on a weekly basis... That should tell you everything you need to know. But in case it doesn't, it's not a matter of this one being the best (which it is by a country mile)... the Ghandi is THE Indian takeaway. There are no others, only this one.

Loved the app to order very easy , my son picked order up . Was ok although he was kept waiting to pay as he had been forgotten about . Food , nothing was over whelming. My curry was fine but not amazing and certainly not fairly hot as stayed in menu Garlic naan was awful worst I have ever had ,Very salty couldn't eat it . Meat samosa not good very chewy and not that nice . Always thought this place had an excellent reputation. Not sure we will go again .

We placed a very large order and we picked it up and didn't have to wait too long considering how big it was. It used to be my regular takeaway before I moved house. It really is still my favourite takeaway. Absolutely delicious. Thank you Ghandi!!

Gandhi is amazing. Great food and service at a reasonable cost. Honestly, they take the quality of the cuisine seriously. I hope they'll keep up their excellence going forward.

Polite and efficient (placed order online and it was ready at their specified pick up time). This is where the positive side stops, food was bland, garlic naan was appalling (horrendously salty!!), tikka masala was watery and when opened the lid from the tray it had visible fat stoggey on the surface. It was the first and last time we'll go here, very disappointed last night and a shame as they do charity work and seemed well run.

Have ordered numerous times and usually have a good meal however today, the vegetable bhuna was so salty it was inedible. Such a shame.

Best food in Fareham, great service, such commitment to please his customers, Abu even came home from his family holiday early as his chef was not able to work, to make sure his customers could be served on new year's eve one of his busiest nights of the year, always great food . Thanks Abu.

Still amazing, did visit over the Christmas break and was busy, but still great quality. Have been visiting since 2016 and still head and shoulders above other places I have visited. I travel a lot for work and always struggle when I am away to get the same standard and value. Abu hugely impressed with your hard work and don’t stop delivering the high standards.

Having been a user of the Gandhi for over 20 years I was surprised when I saw they started taking online orders. Abu the owner had told me he did not want delivery as he thought the kitchen would be over run and affect quality. So when I saw online orders my mind was saying what stops the kitchen getting overrun with orders now ? I phoned my order and was told 45minute to an hour before it was ready . No problem , so I turned up an hour later and was surprised by the number of people waiting to collect there food. 25 minutes later mine eventually was ready. I took it home to a hungry family only to find the order was wrong , a veggie korma instead of chicken and one dish missing. So I drove back and asked for a refund as I did not want to wait another 85 minutes. I was in a local pub later and was discussing this and two other couples also said they had a bad experiance of the Gandhi recently . So these are the first three bad experiances I have heard of from here in 20 years , shame that the owner has in my mind ruined a good takeaway. We will now be going elsewhere for our Indian. Oh and one more thing . from the menu we had at home the food has gone up over 30% for most things.

I haven’t been to The Ghandi for about 3 years. We always go to Baburchi as they deliver. A friend mentioned this takeaway and I thought why not give it another go. Wow the food was some of the best I have ever had. We had - 2 portions onion Bhajee, chicken Parthia, tandoori mixed grill, one garlic and one mushroom rice and an aubergine side dish. Absolutely fantastic, thank you so much, this fed 3 adults easily, excellent. Will be ordering again!

We have been regular customers of this fabulous takeaway since we moved to the area 20+ years ago. The food and service is always of the highest quality and we have had many wonderful meals from Abu and the team. Sadly, we are no longer in the local area. Not only will we miss the lovely food but we will miss the wonderful Abu, his lovely family and team of chefs. We did manage to fit in our last takeaway just before we left and as usual it was outstanding. Shame you can't deliver - it's only 200 miles away!!. Well, we have not been around for a while, and yesterday decided to have curry for dinner! So we ordered Chicken Dhansak and Lamb Patia, onion bhaji starters and of course Papadums!! All I can say is, wow! The onion bhaji starters were some of the best I have eaten, and I like to think of myself as an expert on theses things! Ages ago we had them from the Gandhi and they seemed dry, heavy and not too tasty. Now, they are in a different league, crispy, succulent, light and so tasty, with enough moisture to get the taste buds going! I could eat just them! Never mind anything else !! Anyway, I digress… The curries were delish! The chicken was tender as it should be, but I have found some other restaurants have been using ready cooked chunks of chicken, just added into the curry sauce. This is bad in my books… the chicken pieces end up with curry on the outside, but as soon as you break the chunks open they are white, cooked though, but white, firm and very chewy. Awful. The chicken from the Gandhi was obviously cooked from the first time, as the curry was made and so was tender and very tasty all the way through. My Lamb Patia was lovely too and the lamb was delicate and tender and just how I like it. The Pops and sauce were lovely the sauce was different, with an intriguing chillie taste and smell - yummy! Anyway we had some left for tonight but decided, why not? So ordered another lot to pig out on again tonight! Equally delish!!! Thank you Gandhi. We will be back!

Absolutely the best tasting Indian food we have tasted in a long while. Excellent value, large portions & courteous polite service, it is no wonder they are popular.

This isn’t actually a review it’s more of a memoir to an adventurous evening experience at the Ghandi Indian take away, buckle up because this was a night to remember… It was a blissfully quiet Monday the sun was peaking out amongst the clouds casting shadows along the pavement. The evening rush was just finishing and most had returned home after a long day at the office. I had just clocked of from work and called a friend (Jon) to organise an activity for the evening. Jon was training for an upcoming cycle tour to Lisbon, Portugal. We agreed that the conditions were perfect for a cycle and got to it! Starting from Titchfield we grafted up ports down hill, wind was on the nose and I noticed the conditions changing slightly. I made a few passing comments to my intrepid companion who was more concerned with FaceTiming his brother who was already in the Pyrenees waiting for him. We reached the summit, admired the view and then powered round the back of Creech woods and past the worlds end. At this point lightning had started to flash prompting me to ask Jon; “are we heading in the right direction?” to which he replied confidently; “yes, this is the way home” Followed by; “should we grab some food on route?” I was exhausted but felt that my response should show the opposite so I confidently replied; “sure fancy a Chinese?” all the Chinese restaurants in range were closed, it was Monday after all! We did a quick google search and found the Ghandi Indian take away. We dialled the number and placed an order. We were told 10-15 minutes which was perfect as we were fairly close. As we neared the take away I felt a droplet hit my forehead and Jon said loudly. “Yep, that’s rain.” This… was an understatement. As we entered the cul-de-sac the storm started to beat down on the area which was illuminated by the lighting it was quite the spectacle but luckily we were able to take refuge in Ghandi’s safe haven. We were met by a dazzling aroma of sweet and savoury spices and a smile of a kind man behind the counter. It was as if destiny had brought us to this place. We had ordered a chicken tikka biriani and masala with madras hot sauce, coconut pilau rice, popadoms and some accompanying sauces. Jon and I started to wonder how we would tackle the unbelievable conditions outside whilst carrying the packaged Indian take away! Thoughtfully Abdul invited us to seek refuge in his wonderful establishment away from the harsh conditions. He welcomed us to eat inside and got us some cutlery and plates from behind the counter. After serving the food to us he mentioned that history was being made this night. It was the first time in 35 years that customers had eaten inside this humble take away. While enjoying the delicious food we came across another traveler who had entered the takeaway. He seemed to be here for quite the opposite reason, the man was a storm chaser! He was documenting and tracking the cells with an application and his camera! He was fairly peculiar but fascinating and seemed to be a regular. He stopped for a photo with us captured by Abdul and then left to fetch something from his nearby house. He returned swiftly with a knife and fork… we had clearly set a trend. We are looking forward to dining in the Ghandi Indian take away in the future and want to thank the team for a lovely meal. We did eventually make it home, slightly wet but with full bellies and great memories! All the best, the silly cyclists!

Lovely owner, food and good price

Probably the worst curry I've ever had! - Order was wrong (gave us a Madras instead of a Korma) - Naan smeared in over-powering garlic paste - Tikka Masala was so bland - Garlic mushrooms covered in onions (not stated on menu) Only positive was that the rice tasted of rice. £25 wasted!

As ever a great meal. Food never disappoints. The best Inian takeaway in the area. Good food . Great value.

Tasteless - very disappointing. First time used, dried out onion bhaji, cold chips, Nan bread soggy, madras with no spice or flavour. Not one to moan but food quality & flavour very poor.

The food from the Gandhi Indian Takeaway never fails to impress our family. The choice is excellent and always tastes delicious with good portions you are always satisfied afterwards. I love to visit this delightful Indian takeaway when I come home to visit. Mr. Gandhi (as I and my parents have called him) always said "Hello Mr. Philip" to my dad. The food is the best. I just moved to Fareham and tried Gandhi for the first time. I will be coming back for more very soon! Their food is absolutely delicious! The restaurant is very clean and it smelled so good when we came in. Very pleased to have this restaurant so close to home. Also, their menu is just incredible! Only good things to say about Gandhi.

Although the food is excellent, we were recently very disappointed to find that we were given a mild dish in place of a medium dish. It wasn’t so much the mistake that disappointed as much as the “am I bovvered” attitude after reporting this back to them. It would you think be customary to offer a replacement meal or a credit against a future order but no, they couldn’t get me off the phone quick enough to free it up for orders.Well, good luck to them, the food is good but I won’t be back.

Best Indian meal in a long timee

We stayed down this way in November, being big fans of Hampshire. Fancied a curry one night and found this beauty squirreled away in Fareham. It was one of our top curries ever - we had the Rana Special with Pumpkin (more flavour than most Indian meals which taste creamy and boring) and the most gloriously garlicky bread ever. It was simply, simply awesome and a delight to eat. Top marks - just a shame it's an hour and a half drive away from us now! These guys are brilliant.

Ghandi Indian Takeaway is simply the best in our view. We have been very happy customers for many years and we have never, ever been disappointed. The food prepared by Ghandi's extremely talented Chef's is excellent. Service as always is First Class. We celebrated a special family occasion last week and what better way to celebrate than with wonderful food from the best in the business. Sincere thanks to all at Ghandi. See you again soon.

What a great find this has been. After being recommended by a friend this is now our go to Indian even though it is a bit of a drive. All the curries have been lovely, the food is always hot, on time and the service superb. Will not go anywhere else now.

Having read the amazing reviews, we had high expectations when ordering our faves chicken korma and chicken tikka masala. Sadly the sauces were very watery and the meat tasteless. Maybe we were just unlucky, be we won't be trying this one again any time soon.

Great value and an expansive menu. Always feel welcome and valued here - i phone and Abu mentions me by name on pickup, welcomed by a big smile on pickup and the food is always a great quality with a few extras thrown in. Takeout is always available by the time estimated and such a wonderful, regal feast when I get this home.

Twice had orders messed up. 1st time no rice 2nd time gave someone else's order. Both times had to drive all the way back to get correct order

Got a take away tonight and we were so disappointed. The meat was tough, the popadoms were dry and burnt in places, Sauce was sour tasting and my husbands chips were dry and soggy, if that’s possible. We threw almost all of it away.

The perfect curry, will return. New the area and ordered here, spoke on the phone about what spice I like and it came out perfect. Had Lovely curry, Sag potato’s, garlic naan, bhajis and popadoms. All for £13. It was so tasty, will definitely be returning. They were super friendly too!
