Came for Sunday lunch and had turkey! So well presented and very tasty! This is a great village pub and the team take great care in the presentation, attitude and overall cleanliness of the pub. No grumpy landlord here!

Called in today whilst exploring the outskirts of Ripon and glad we did. We didn't eat on this occasion just had a couple of drinks. Upon first impressions the pub is beautiful and obviously caters for diners. We sat at the bar and chatted with the the lovely Nik (Nicola) who was very friendly and welcoming so much so that we had 2 drinks instead of the one we planned for. I really enjoy sitting at a bar and chatting with staff when they have time to do so. We are new to the area so it was nice to get information from a local. The menu looked inviting and reasonably priced. We will definitely return in future.

So glad I booked to come to this delightful small village pub, it's so popular I can never understand why people don't make a simple phone call to avoid disappointment and then complain. We had the sharing seafood platter, perfectly cooked and presented along with a steak for me and a salmon salad for my partner. Portions were very generous and we washed it all down with a great bottle of Sauvignon Blanc. Great attentive service and a nice lively locals Bar. Fully recommend but do book!

We hadn’t booked but arrived about 6.30 on a Wednesday evening. As we walked into the pub everyone at the bar turned and looked at us making us feel very uncomfortable. Despite there being a lot of empty tables we were told they couldn’t accommodate us. The manager was sat at the bar with friends and suggested the bar man checked with the chef. He came back to say no. I am guessing he just couldn’t be bothered to put on an extra couple of covers. Very disappointed having driven from Ripon. We wont do it again

This pub restaurant was recommended to us by a local but unfortunately did not come up to our expectations. The steak and ale pie looked mouthwatering but not only could I not chew the lumps of meat, I couldn’t even cut them with my knife! Not good enough.

It was so lovely to be recognised by Jake after nearly a year since our last visit to The Galphay Inn...! As always the service and food were superb. I loved the mushroom and thyme soup. For my main course I had the seabass with plenty of perfectly cooked fresh vegetables with a delicious tomato and red pepper sauce...all piping hot. My partner enjoyed the rump steak with brandy and pepper sauce with a pile of chunky chips (which were lovely..as I pinched one!...) Too full for dessert but we left very satisfied with our meal and drinks. Thanks for the warm welcome...we'll be back next time we're in the area.

Booked a table here on 24 July 2024 at the suggestion of our Air BnB host - total disaster - we booked for 18h45 and had placed our order by 19h00 - by 20h15, and after having noticed a number of patrons sending their food back, we still hadn't received our meal or any explanation for the delay - I asked the manageress if there was a problem - she said "yes" but didn't elaborate - we cancelled our order, paid for our drinks and left - not great at all

We got lost and found ourselves seeking a late, light lunch. As a walk in we were welcomed warmly. We had prawn sandwiches which was delicious. We understand road closures near Ripon have impacted custom, but they couldn't have been more accommodating to us. Limited parking near by, but as it was quiet no difficulty. A beautiful spot.

Booked a table at the Galphay Inn when in the area with friends. Were offered a choice of tables on arrival and was seated promptly. Drinks order was taken after about 10 minutes and arrived quickly. Menu was a little restricted but we all managed to find starters and mains to order. However, starters took over 45 minutes to arrive. Thankfully, all were delicious and plentiful. Main course took another 15 minutes after starters were cleared. Again, they were hot, tasty and well presented. All in all, good food at a reasonable price let down by slow service.

This is our go to stopover point from Scotland to Kent. (Stay at local CL in Moho 1 mile walk). It’s like returning to visit old friends when you drink and dine here. Lovely warm welcome from the landlord and locals alike. Varied staff on shift each time we visit and all very friendly. Food is good pub grub with plenty of choice in a small and cosy atmospheric restaurant. Ended up back in the bar area the last time as a staff member was leaving, (reluctantly moving on) and sharing our first “Baby Guinness” experience with the locals and landlord alike! Will def return again and again. Wish we had more time to explore the area…next time!

Always gravitate here when in the area. Today was a good busy local pub, visitors and residents all getting on. The locals always engaged, sheep farmers, milkman, HGV drivers just seem to meld. Didn’t have food so couldn’t comment but the atmosphere was fantastic. Good humour, great beer and wines and not a TV in sight. A real pub

We picked this pub restaurant for dinner because it was close to our holiday cottage and it was our first night there. The atmosphere was lively when we walked in and we weren't disappointed with the service nor the food. We had three courses and each one was very tasty. Starters were excellent. Sunday lunch not the greatest, only one small bowl of veg for 4 people, not enough gravy and had to ask for more. The roast potatoes were not crispy. Would have been nice to have lemon/ice in the spring water. Personally I would not rush back for Sunday lunch.

Once a year we all get together to celebrate my birthday. One son comes up from Kent so it’s a special occasion for us all. We booked the Galphay Inn as it was getting good reviews. When we received the lunch menu it was very limited and quite expensive. There was no children’s menu, we had two children with us. Everything took a long time from waiting to order to waiting for the food- an hour! For the cost the food wasn’t anything special at all, nor the drinks. I wanted it to be so special and it wasn’t unfortunately.

Incredibly disappointment with our visit to the Galphay Inn - poor service and poor quality meals. We visited on a Sunday afternoon and due to running out of Sunday lunches, we were left to order the pie of the day (rest of the menu didn’t appeal). The pie was not generously filled and I was disappointed to see it served with very cheap oven chips - not what I expected for £16. We were a table of 3, and served one tiny portion of (cold) vegetables and we had to remind staff for the gravy. Service was poor - not attentive and lacked any attention to detail (i.e we weren’t offered any more drinks). Meals took a long time to arrive. For the ticket price on the menu, we expected much more. Not sure if we visited on an off-day, but we definitely won’t be back - which is a shame we we live local and we’re hoping for somewhere nice for a Sunday lunch.

A great Roast beef Sunday lunch. High quality beef and cooked to perfection. Vegetables were lightly cooked and still slightly crunchy which was perfect. So many places fall down with microwaved, soggy veg! Not this place. Will definitely return for another when in the area. Reduced the star rating to four simply on the fact we had to wait almost 50 minutes for the food. I expect to wait 20-30 mins max but his was too long to wait. Thankfully the excellent food saved the day!

Oh what a find. Went for dinner (YOU NEED TO BOOK!!) Staff were really welcoming, lovely atmosphere. All food is cooked to order, so you may need to be prepared to wait .....however, if you're not in a rush, just enjoy the venue....it's so worth it. Couldn't fault any of it. We both had starters.....Mushrooms in Blue Cheese Sauce and Deep Fried Brie Wedges. They were lovely. For mains, My husband had Steak and Ale Pie, which he said was one of the best he'd ever had, served with a mountain of chips, and about 4 separate veg. I had the Veggie Thai Curry, it was so tasty, but alas, couldn't finish, because the portions are not small. Had I known how large the main meals were, we would have skipped starters. Can't advise re desserts, as we were just too full. If we are in the area again, we will def book to visit again

We visited mid week for an early evening dinner and had a wonderful meal. The staff were friendly and welcoming, seating us at a table in the bar area next to the log burning stove. As we had arrived with our dog, a member of staff came over with a water bowl for her. The menu choice was good, as well as having a specials board with additional items. The prices seemed reasonable, and when the food arrived, the meals were delicious, as well as plentiful. Service throughout was brilliant. We were very happy customers. Went here with my wife and 13yr old son. What a find!!!! Cannot rate this pub highly enough. I had a beef kofta with tztasiki for starter which was lovely, just the right size too. My wife had the chicken supreme, son had the burger and I the pork belly. All meals were huge ( I may sound like gluttony is my middle name, it's not, its just that I believe in value for money) and really really good! You simply couldn't fault it. The pork had a stunning amunt of crackling that was crisped to perfection. It was things like a subtle amount of added salt on top that made you think this chef actually cares. It wasn't a big thing but for me shows a really nice touch. I cant comment on the others mains because I wasnt allowed any! Two puddings arrived in the form of STP and ice cream and a Galhay Mess, the latter a homage to the Eton Mess and a dessert that the School would be proud of. I was driving so a mere sample of the beer was all I was allowed, which in hindsight was a good thing otherwise I would have rattled through the Theakstons ale, so well kept it was. If you are ever within 50 miles of this place, do yourself a favour and book a table at this child and dog atmospheric pub. Loved it.

Having two fussy eaters with us I had called ahead to see what, if any, children's menu was available. They advised they could do anything from the main menu in a child's portion or would look to accomodate us with something else if there was nothing to suit. They made homemade chicken goujons for our daughters which were delicious and resulted in clean plates. My hubby loved his starter of mushrooms with blue cheese and we thoroughly enjoyed our mains. Went with some.friends for sunday dinner. The red wine tasted like vinegar, there was no atmosphere at all in the pub, the chef spent more time behind the bar. The pork was thin and overcooked (more like bacon) vedge did not seem fresh, very bland. The puddings also seemed frozen and the gravy was nothing special. Pies were acidy, too much ale or wine or something. Very expensive for what we got, will not be returning.

Dogs & cats in a restaurant is off- putting , and definitely unhygienic, regardless of whether you are "pet lovers" or not . All animals should be banned from public eating establishments.

When organising a last minute family get together I stumbled across the Galphay Inn and was delighted when they managed to squeeze in all 8 of us, and three dogs, for Sunday lunch. The staff were exceptionally friendly and attentive and the atmosphere was exactly the 'Yorkshire country pub' vibe we were hoping for. The food was tasty typical pub food and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Definitely a place I will be going back to.

What a stunningly stupid review just posted. I know this pub really well and the inaccuracies posted are beyond belief.

Arrived at the pub after passing loads of A boards enroute advertising Sunday lunch. There we 8 of us, 4 adults and 4 children. We sat down at a table and a lady came over to us and asked if we wanted a drink. I said we would like to order some food as well and she told us they had none!! 5.10pm on a Sunday! There was a couple eating near to us. It just felt really odd. I have never been told we have no food left before!!

Staying locally for a week we popped in a couple of times. There was a warm and friendly welcome. The menu was varied and catered for a gluten free diet. Food was was well presented, tasty and plentiful. There was a charity fundraiser on the one evening which sadly we missed. Highly recommended.

We were looking for a good meal after a days walk, which was cooked well, good value and in a nice relaxed atmosphere. This treasure of a find more than ticked the boxes! The Manager and staff were so warm and welcoming, yet professional, and provided a really lovely meal for us. Choosing steak can always be a gamble, but the 7oz Rump with its trimmings & an extra sauce was done to perfection. We allowed ourselves the salted caramel sundae as we'd walked all afternoon, and had a real treat!

The staff are great. They accommodated our new baby and made sure we had room for the pram. The food is the best quality whenever we come. Every time we come it makes me think why we didn't eat there before this year!.

Popped in whilst looking for a quick lunch. Very unusual setting for a tea room but works well with about 10 tables set up between the pews & the altar. The pews act as an overflow area if all tables are taken but we arrived as one was being vacated. Very friendly staff, a relaxing atmosphere and excellent value for money. Menu is limited to a choice of rolls, soup and a tempting range of homemade cakes & scones. Rolls could have improved if pickle, mustard or mayonnaise had been offered but the cakes & scones made up for this as they were very nice. The church itself is a delightful building and worth a visit in it’s own right. An interesting alternative lunch option.
