Called in on this friendly Inn during a recent stay at a local campsite. We were lucky to get a table as it was quite busy so may be worth looking at booking in summer. Nice to see a good range of real ales including Theakstons, Wainrights and Osset guest ale. The Theakstons XB was a great pint. Plenty of options on the menu and the specials board, although a few of the specials weren’t available but we arrived towards the end of the day. We ordered a couple of Hunters Chicken Parmos and a steak. The portion sizes were very generous and the food was much enjoyed. All aspects were well cooked and prepared and tasty. With all of the above, the friendly service and a nice atmosphere with holidaymakers and locals alike enjoying their evenings this was a place I’d certainly visit again.

We planned to have an afternoon in the beer garden and came with wife and granddaughter and two dogs. This was one of the hottest days of the year but they would not give our dogs any water as they said there was a water bowl outside when I said could I have another bowl as this one was being used by another family they refused, most unhelpful. So had one drink and left

Visited a number of times whilst we stayed at Middlewood Farm. The food was always freshly prepared and extremely tasty, well priced and a fantastic selection including a delicious prawn pasta, it was absolutely delicious. The fish and chips were excellent and there were no skimping on the quantity. Luckily it was sunny and we sat outside whilst the kids played on the adventure playground. It’s very well kept. I’m very welcoming the staff are really friendly and can help with recommendations. Don’t forget to look at the blackboard in the lounge area for their specials. Kids meals were beautifully prepared and presented and soft drinks were reasonably priced. I noticed that this place also does bed and breakfast so it’s one to note if you wish to visit out of season as it’s definitely a lovely cosy pub. Highly recommended and we hope to all visit soon.

Out of the way pub that doesn’t look anything special from the outside and probably could do with a bit of maintenance. The bar and restaurant area is very basic, the bartender is polite and friendly which is what you would expect. Plenty of different drinks available at very affordable prices. And then the food, steak was lovely perfectly cooked to my liking with a very generous portion of great chips, mushrooms, tomatoes and a lovely fresh salad. You can pay a lot of money in other places for a lot less with a not very nice taste. I totally recommend a visit for a good value wonderfully tasty meal. Only my opinion but I liked it.

We visited on Easter Sunday for lunch, a large group of 14 adults. We had been asked to pre book our menu choice which was completely acceptable. The meal did not disappoint and the service was excellent. The only negative was that we weren’t asked what meat we wanted when choosing the 2 meat lunch even though there was a choice of 3 meats and we weren’t offered any accompaniments eg mint sauce, we had to ask for them. The lunch was very tasty and large portions. Dessert menu a bit disappointing though, not many to choose from. Would definitely recommend.

We often stop for our mid-walk lunch here when staying in Robin Hood's Bay. Great location for Cinder track, good selection of ales and generous food portions for price. If you're a normal person, you'll ignore all the wittery reviews - it's a classic, local pub. It's traditional pub food. The people are nice. We've been coming here for years and we've never had a bad experience, always really enjoyed stopping here and hope to be back in the future.

Tired looking conservatory and in need of some TLC. 3 x visits whilst on holiday and food was general pub grub (1 x visit) and a positive = nice pie but negative = chips we're burnt (whether the chef batch cooked then re-fried only he will know!) Second visit flat soft drinks and bar person then had to restock from local store. 3rd visit during super mild spell and got frog marched from beer garden by bar person as was apparently closed (some bizarre comment about too muddy but wouldn't even let us sit on 1st table in beer garden where grass was fine!). Sat on bench by all the stubbed out cigarettes instead (nice!) then 90 year old glass collector, with same Customer Skills whipped glasses away without a word. Suggestion to put more effort into customer services, clean out planters of cigarettes, don't cook the chips so they are the same colour as the famous Whitby Jet and maybe refresh the 1980 rules! Beer nice though so 2 stars.....

We had a fabulous dinner at the Scarborough Arms on a busy Saturday evening (reservation essential). We skipped starters and had the salmon (a special for the night), BBQ ribs and sirloin steak. Throughout the evening, Derek and his team took great care of us. The food was superb, accompanied by good wines (Sauvignon Blanc and Malbec) & a draught Moretti. Thanks to everyone for making us so welcome whilst staying in the town. Highly recommended.

I recently dined at the White Horse and Griffin, and it was a complete disappointment. My sister-in-law, who dined with me, got her meal at half price after she raised a complaint, but when I did the same, the manager flat-out refused to discount mine. The excuse? Because I had eaten my meal, it was “too late to complain.” This is absolutely ridiculous — as a customer, I should still be able to express dissatisfaction, especially when the meal was so underwhelming. For £24, I was served a chicken leg, half a tomato, and a small potato. What a joke! The portion was tiny, the food was average, and the lack of customer service was downright frustrating. I won’t be returning, and I highly advise others to avoid this place unless you want to be treated unfairly.

The Plough is in a lovely location and not too far from Whitby harbour which was great for our trip to the WGW. The pub itself is cozy and we were shown to our room by a lovely young chap. There are only three rooms to rent and we were in room one. Upon inspection it was nice and clean and smelt fresh. Very basic with a kettle and tea/coffee but for one night we couldn't complain. The bathroom was very spacious though with a big walk in shower. It was quite cold in our room and when we tried to turn the radiator on it didn't seem to work. We only used the room as a base to sleep and we were out till early hours so this wasn't too much of a problem for us. Also the remote control for the TV didn't seem to work so we only had the one rubbish channel to watch as we couldn't turn the TV over, but again wasn't too much of a problem. If we had been staying for more than a night then we would have mentioned it to staff. I found the bed to be quite comfy but my husband said it was really uncomfortable. We also found a past guests hoodie under the bed so obviously hadn't been cleaned properly. Food was decent and prices were what you'd expect. It was a shame they didn't do breakfast. 10 mins in the car to whitby and not too far from other attractions. We would definitely visit again for food if nearby but I probably wouldn't stay here again if for more than a night.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who followed the gents toilet sign and ended up outside looking confused and pained. Staff seemed a little grumpy when we called in, except for a young chap (possibly Polish) who was very helpful and courteous to the guests checking in. I've never seen one person carry as many bags since sherpa Tenzing helped Sir Edmond Hillary up mount Everest.
