Great fish and chips , cheaper than the others and i believe a lot more satisfying than others in the area. Friendly staff and food fresh made.

Found the whole experience disappointing… ordered to collect at 7 :30 and had to wait another 40 minutes… The fish was dry and the batter not crispy. .. and the chips soft.

I was waiting for my food and the owner who was frying spoke to his Wife like she was a bit of dirt on his shoe, swearing at her also. This was in front of myself and on other customer. When my food was ready I said to him please don’t talk to your wife in that manner, especially in front of your customers. I was told to get out or be knocked out. Never heard anything like it. I have been using this fish and chip shop for the last 10 Years. Not anymore. Just in case they respond and say anything, the two ladies outside stated at least one of us can be gentleman. Frankie’s at Grayshott going forward.

A perfectly cooked meal. Fish was large portions. The batter was cooked to perfection and lovely chips. Excellent value and large portions. Much better than my local fish and chips in Grayshott

Used to visit regularly and it was fab but new owners/managers have really let it go. Looks grubby, rude staff, long wait and owner talking on mobile phone whilst serving food. That is not very hygienic. Definitely won’t be back and will use Frankie’s at Grayshott. Remove the grotty table in front of the counter and give your restaurant a good clean, it certainly needs it.

Popped in here whilst out with a group of friends and have to say the haddock and chips was very good with the fish being fresh and the batter thin and crispy and not saturated with oil like the fish my local chippy

We are visiting the area and decided we’d have fish and chips for tea and our daughter a cheese burger for tea. The welcome was wonderful and the ship was very clean and tidy. The fish and chips were the best we’d had in a long time and it was so welcome that they cook everything to order instead of cooking batches to then keep it warm. The fish was so moist and the batter was superb. Daughters burger was really really lovely. Thank you so so much and we’ll done.

Great service, big portions and good quality. Would thoroughly recommend the Ocean Basket for a family meal

Always pop in here for Large Cod and Chips. They do all the usual drinks plus cream soda etc. Their Jumbo sausages and spring rolls are also good. Worth a visit and all orders can be telephoned in advance for collection and I believe they now deliver locally as well.

Ordered & paid inside for collection. 20 minutes later was presented with 2 x cod & chips. (Ordered 1 x pie 1 x chicken & 1 x chips). Was then told my order given to previous person & would I like cod & chips. (Nope - wonder how the cod & chips people felt when they got home with pie & chicken). Waited another 30 minutes, went in as I had seen many orders prepared & bagged up. Mentioned my long wait & having seen other orders going out, only to be told that delivery orders take priority! The food is nice, portions generous, but not worth waiting nearly an hour for & to also be told that people who ordered after you, remotely, take priority is not for us. Sadly will not go again.

Had chips from there before and was happy. Recently had ‘large’ cod and is sinfully expensive for the size... it honestly isn’t a small at most places and it was a £7 large... picture attached. Cooked ok! The staff seem nice... kid delivering got ‘lost’ and drove around an extra 40 minutes with our food getting cold which annoyingly it was when it finally Not entirely the young guys fault nobody asked for my number at the shop - they said it’d be 15 minutes and was just about an hour. When I called after 30 checking to see if they were lost the shop said he’d be there in 5... just a disappointment in general considering I remember it being decent previously. However as mentioned the portion sizes are an absolute rip off... I cannot even begin to imagine what size the medium cod would be if this is the large Would order chips when passing again but that’s a real disappointment

Sadly, this will be my last visit to this chippy. Used to be excellent but after a recent change of hands it’s rubbish. Fish is still good but chips are terrible and more than that the service is shocking. I’ve given them three tries, and on average I’ve had to wait between 25-30 mins (not a Friday or Sat). Part of my order had been forgotten about one one occasion adding yet further time To my wait. In addition, the lady and gent that are always cooking and serving are always bickering which is not a great impression. A real shame!

I have to mention the date as the fish cooked on that evening was thickly battered and overcooked / burnt. Disappointed but clearly down to that particular cook.

Really great freshly prepared. Huge portions so don’t over order on the the chips. Ocean Basket is a good mix including delicious cod strips.

After being in the area for a year, I only just stumbled across this place. Great value and tasty fish and chips. Can understand why there were so many people queuing up!

I had a lovely piece of haddock the other night, perfectly cooked and full of flavour and with just the right amount of batter - not too much.

Crispy batter, huge juicy cod, perfect chips. Friendly polite staff. Consistently high quality, never dissapoints.

Went about 5pm,had to queue but well worth the wait,piping hot food, well presented cooked to perfection

There are two chip shops in Hindhead/Grayshott. Both are equally as good. Not a problem but if you are in a hurry be aware of long waits at both places

The fish has always been cooked fresh and is always boiling hot - wonderful!What's not so good are the chips - often soft i.e. not crispy, and I question if they are freshly cooked. I think this is a problem since their charges are at a premium level.We question if we will return

I like coming here vs Frankies in Grayshott as the service is generally quicker and the variety of fish as good. I certainly haven't experienced the 30 minutes quoted by other reviewers. Top tip instead of ordering a big single cod order the cod bites as you get more of the same quality fish for a lower cost which is great for a quick family tea that will leave a family of two adults and two under 6 feeling full.

We have been using this shop since it opened a few years ago. The fish is great quality and generous portions. Also very comfy sofa whilst you wait! Son in law insists on battered sausage and fish! Gluten free batter excellent alternative for a lighter batter. Chips hot and crisp.

Staff and management offered a pleasant welcome - unusual these days. Scampi and Chips were cooked fresh, were boiling hot and delicious.

Very very very slow!! Disappointing. Pretty sure it’s supposed to be ‘fast food’ and not take 30 mins

Under new management ! Friendly family The fish and chips it was incredible tasty . The food is always Hot and fresh and the welcome it is always with a big smile !

I must admit, I have been to quite a few chip shops in my life, and Friars isn't a bad one. There's some reviews on here saying its bad, etc, etc. But thing is, if you get there when the ovens are just about hot (So, say... 10-30 mins after opening times) they are often very hot and tasty.

We have just enjoyed Fish and Chips for our lunch from Friars after trying them a month or so again where we found them mediocre! What a difference today! The fish was so fresh and tasty with just the right amount of crispy batter! Chips were fresh and hot and all presented lovely! Will definitely visit again. It’s under new management so maybe that’s why it has improved!

Had f&c; from here on a Saturday night while in town to visit the Devils Punch Bowl. Service was OK, but not fast considering that it wasn't too busy. The cod was reasonable but the chips were awful, cold, over cooked, tough, tasted like lunch time left overs! 7/10 for the fish, 2/10 for the chips. Wouldn't use again.

We go regularly. The food is good, the service prompt and the prices reasonable. Parking is usually available right outside.

Chips were burnt/ crispy, only about a third of the chips were half- decent. The cod was okay but it was a bit tasteless, and the chicken burger was mediocre. I'm not sure I would go again.

I've eaten fish and chips all over the country and with the possible exception of Whitby; this restaurant is the best

Food has always been fine - but was cross about waiting for food for 40 minutes and having watched other people come in and go before me - with similar items to my order - I was told at the time it had taken so long because I had ordered "sausage in batter"(obviously too much to ask) but others who came in after me were given them. I left with food as really hungry - only saw the time on car dashboard as I left!! I telephoned the shop to complain but no goodwill or apology.

Had cod and chips from here many times since they opened, unfortunately the past few occasions the fish has been so oily that it has not been edible, the batter was soggy not crisp and the fish was brown and slimy not white and flaky like it used to be, a real shame as it used to be so good, I don't think we will be going back this time, we gave it a few chances in case it was an off day and asked for the code to be drained after cooking and before wrapping but not for me any more

If you want the best fish and chips, there is no substitute for Hindhead Friars. We recently had friends down from Yorkshire (where they know a bit about fish and chips) and both said it was the best they had ever eaten.

Always good chips, fish good too. Always cook to order so usually a wait but worth it. Cod is cod and not something else!

I always went to Grayshott for my fish and chips however when this opened I decided to give it a try. It is fantastic and I have been back many times. Best Fish and Chips in the area.

Recientemente me he trasladado a la zona y han estado recibiendo pescado y patatas fritas para mí y mis padres de aquí durante varias semanas. Siempre fresco, estoy dispuesto a esperar, pero creo que puedes llamar con antelación si lo desea.

Regularmente para conseguir papas fritas desde aquí la fuerza de trabajo (en ocasiones especiales sólo por supuesto) y siempre bien, a veces un poco de espera si está ocupado, pero ring con antelación y tienen listas para ir.

Pescado y patatas fritas. Fui por un regular no grande cod (que fue suficientemente grande) estaba buenísimo y era frito a la orden. Se lo recomiendo a cualquiera que quiera buena comida rápidamente.

Pescado (bacalao) era fresco, patatas fritas secos. Ambos fueron hechas con un doble sin grasa excedente. Guisantes blandos eran sabrosas y no crudos como es a menudo el caso en otro sitio. En general, parecen hacer lo básico. Sin Gluten pasta sin cargo. Estaremos con ellos de nuevo. Nota: este no es un restaurante como tal, pero una comida para llevar.

I haven't had fish and chips for ages having been put off by a couple of really nasty fish and chip experiences locally (Weyhil, Grayshot, Godalming) but Friars were good today. The fat did not taste or smell strong and cheap ( something that often puts me off); the fish was really fresh and cooked there and then while we waited and the batter was crispy; the chips were not soaked in fat and didn't taste as though they'd been re-fried several times. I got the impression that the man doing the cooking really knew what he was doing.

I have tried quite a few chip shops in the area, and think this is the best one. The fish was fresh and freshly cooked, the ingredients seemed good quality. Decent portion sizes too. Got the impression the people running it knew what they were doing.

Haddock with chips. Very nicely cooked. Fish just right not over cooked. Crispy batter. Chips not greasy just how we like them. This is not a restaurant..

Best veggie burger I've had at a restaurant. Great fries and packaging for takeout. My parents really enjoyed the cod, and portions were super huge. Delicious!!

50p charge for all card payments, debit or credit. Oh dear... I'll be going somewhere else in future.

Great fish and chips with fantastic service. Ignore the trolls on TA here about this place (plaice?) Friars is great.

I never thought I would see the day when we had a fish and chip shop in a place like Hindhead so have giver it a try a couple of times and have been VERY pleasantly surprised. It is first class in every way. The shop is immaculate, the service is quick and the quality is probably the best you will find anywhere. It was also reassuring to find how well it was patronised. Well done Friars and keep it up, we will be back regularly.

Just great fish and chips. A big order, for eight of us, and everything was freshly cooked and pretty much perfect. Haddock were huge and fishy (often not the case elsewhere) with batter perfectly crisp without being overdone. Chips also great - a large portion is ample for 2-3 people.

Just had fish & chips from this place. The chips were cooked in a strange tasting oil but were actually quite good HOWEVER the fish (huss) was suspiciously square shaped (to fit into the box?) & was far far too greasy to eat. My dogs enjoyed it tho!

Over the last year, I have purchased fish and chips from Friars 5or 6 times. It's always very fresh and perfectly cooked. No greasy unpleasant aftertaste. Very friendly staff. It's my favourite place to buy fish & chips.

Generally very good. The fish is always cooked to order but the chips are occasionally a little tired.

Great food, but service could be improved as it is a bit slow and could be more slick?! Nicely done, but quite slow...also, curry sauce could be better.

Recently opened we decided to try out the new fish and chip restaurant. I was told I would have to wait while they cooked the fish, but was given the piece sitting on the top when I arrived without even putting it back in the fryer. The fish wasn't as bad as the chips. They were so dry from being kept warm for hours that they were inedible. We threw most of our meal away. What a waste. A waste of time, money and food. Unless we were just unlucky that evening, AVOID.
