Arrived here with a couple of friends at just after 10pm on a Monday night. After waiting at the empty bar for several minutes a barman appeared briefly to announce "We've stopped serving" and then promptly disappeared leaving us looking at each other in amazement. No explanation or apology. Disappointing as I'd specifically brought my friends here as they were from out of town. This is Reading CAMRA's Pub of the Year 2024. Perhaps the judging panel need to give a bit more regard to the customer experience rather than how many real ales a pub stocks.

With very good reason, CamRa Reading’s pub of the year. A cut above the competition in terms of cask and keg selection, whilst maintaining a local’s demeanour. Didn’t try the food (Pizzas and Wings). But beer rules here and it’s all fantastic.

It's probably the best pub in Reading, the food is fantastic, service from the staff is quality too. But the beer selection, it's the best, always something fun and new to try as always a safe option if you're not adventurous.

Anyone traveling to Reading should cross the Thames and visit the Fox and Hounds in Caversham. The owners are dedicated Real Ale enthusiasts, and always stocking the best beers available. There's a huge selection at the Fox and Hounds. There's also a full bar for cocktails and expansive seating, indoors and out. The staff is wonderful, and the local clientele are friendly and welcoming to everyone. Very dog friendly, with snacks and water bowls. Fresh stone baked pizza and a menu of appetizers available. Regular live music and charitable events appear on their calendar. This is really just a lovely pub with great vibes.

Was invited to visit this pub on 6th July to raise a glass for our good friend who had passed away & also to watch the England v Switzerland Euro football match Everything seemed pleasant all enjoying a good catch up whilst trying out different ales on offer, when one of our lot had brought some food in from outside The landlord who seemed drunk as we had witnessed him drinking excessively behind the bar came over & told us this was not permitted as they serve food to which we rightly apologized But he would not go away continuously swearing at us , to which I tried to explain that he had made his point & there was no need to use that sort of language but that seemed to make matters worse with him bending down pointing his finger in my face continuing to swear and determined to get the last word in this was in front of all his customers who were enjoying the match I eventually had enough and swore back at him at which point I was aggressively asked to leave which by then I was more than happy to Two of our party who had the decency to follow me out of there & I then made our way to the crown were we were able to see the rest of the match in a normal & enjoyable environment The two generous stars I have given this place are for the other bar staff who I can’t understand how they work under this man & the good range of beers I got to taste But there are several other pubs in the area with the same & without this level of rudeness to go with it

I am usually a big fan of The Fox and Hounds and enjoy an evening there with friends many times a month however on my last trip there I was thoroughly disappointed with the behaviour of the owner who seemed quite obviously drunk and aggressive to customers. My friends and I witnessed him kick out a pair of seemingly peaceful customers trying to enjoy a drink and even go to push one of them as they left! I was rather shocked by this behaviour and it really ruined my evening for me. My friends and I will definitely be choosing The Last Crumb over The Fox next time we head to Caversham for an evening pint - this behaviour is just not acceptable!

If I could give no stars I would! My 18 year old daughter visited earlier this evening with some friends. When she bought their drinks to the table the landlord came over and aggressively and very publicly accused her of adding her own alcohol from her bag! She was shocked and said she hadn’t and that he could check her bag (an open school bag full of folders and books) but he refused and continued to berate her very loudly. At no time was she given the opportunity to prove that she wasn’t doing this and had purchased ‘proper drinks’ from the bar, which he could have checked by simply asking his staff. His behaviour was rude, unpleasant and intimidating! I should add that my daughter has no issue at all with being asked and fully appreciates that it could have been an issue that he had with people in the past, but it was the manner in which it was done! Very bad form!

After three weeks in London, I had the costliest pints of my trip here--nearly £8--which surprised me. To be fair, my two pints of the Three Day Vacation Gose by Double Barrelled were also among the best I'd drunk in that time--so I guess it's a speciality beer, hence the price. I'd been craving something sour, and this one fit the bill. Disconcertingly, it looked like a pint of cloudy orange squash, because--as the informative barman checked for me--it contains orange zest, as well as lime and other glow ups. Reminded me of the classic sour beers. I don't like flavoured beers if they're sweetened by syrups; but flavouring works for me if a beer is tart. Considering how much I enjoyed this beaut, I felt it worth the money. Drinking cheap beers I don't enjoy is the waste of money. Though I visit Reading a lot, it was my first time in this pub, as it's a bit off my normal track. However, now I've tried it, I'm sure I'll go back repeatedly, because to my surprise it boasts one of the best selections of drinks in the town--up there with the likes of the Alehouse, the Nag's Head, and the Castle Tap. Which is saying something. Unfortunately, when I dropped in it was totally empty, so I can't judge what it's like for atmosphere. Thing is, I'm perfectly happy drinking on my own but tend to start feeling the futility of life when I'm the one and only person drinking in an entire pub, because then I can hear my own thoughts

Great service, staff are friendly and really make your night. Drinks are delish, and the food is to die forrr! Myself and my friends thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We often struggle to find places where we feel comfortable having fun at our supposedly “old ages” but there was groups of all ages in here so we didn’t feel as though we stuck out which was great. Thank you Revolution we will definitely be coming here again!

Pretty decent local pub, situated in a quiet area between Tilehurst Road and Oxford Road. It's an attractive building with a large front garden with benches. It's had a refurb relatively recently and looks very smart inside and out. Theres plenty of relaxing seating areas inside and the pub is well kept. Good selection of beers and prices were quite reasonable. The pub does do food as well which I've not tried. Service is good and the staff are friendly. Definitely worth a diversion to stop by and enjoy some drinks.
