So we were encouraged by the great reviews and had been passed on several occasions and it looked a nice clean place with a stunning view. We went on a Tuesday and it was really quiet, place was clean and we had a great table, unfortunately the orange juice was out of a carton….not expected for the price we paid. We then ordered our food, my ceased salad was lovely. The chicken burger average and my partners mixed grill was inedible….the chicken was black and missing onion rings. We mentioned to the server who replaced it within 5 mins we felt this was quick for a fresh mixed grill…again all on the crispy side and the chicken heavily seasoned. Gutted as we had looked forward to this. We weren’t asked if we wanted desserts or to see a menu. So we left disappointed.

This was our first time visiting the Fort , after receiving a recommendation from a friend. We booked for Sunday Lunch and what a pleasure it was. Upon arrival, we had a warm greeting from a member of staff, and shown to our table, and luckily it was in the window, which gave us a great view of the coast. All the drinks and food are ordered at the bar, again, considering it was Sunday lunch the service was spot on with plenty of staff serving. We both decided on the standard size carvery, this was quite adequate for us both. But if you want a larger plate, you can upgrade for an extra £3.50 The choice of meats were(Beef, Turkey and Pork) all were well cooked, also a good selection of vegetables and of course served with a Yorkshire pudding. All in all, very good quality food and surroundings too.

Visited for the first time today and was impressed by the atmosphere, service and plenty seating-especially outside which was lovely with the weather. Order hot and cold drinks as well as food. Only complaint would be how awful the fries were-especially with a burger you expect something a bit more (glad didn’t order the fish for this reason!) than skinny, thin fries. This did let the food down a bit but none the less overall was ok and would visit again when back in Newquay.

Light bite dinners great value...family enjoyed the scampi, fish was bit overcooked. Chips were really nice. The southern fried chicken wrap was a joke. Contained 2 scrawny.bits of chicken, half a slice of cheese, however plenty of Lettuce. As a light lunch, it lived up to its billing being literally lighter than air.

There were lots of dog treats and dog bowls of water available for our dog and we felt table spacing was enough that he wasn't in the way of other customers. Excellent carvery, with a good selection of succulent meats, all the usual trimmings and tasty vegetables. I opted for a turkey/pork mix, which were both melt-in-the-mouth delicious. The carvery counter was replenished regularly, so the potatoes stayed crunchy and the veg freshly cooked. Service was also friendly and attentive. Just one constructive comment: The Fort is very family friendly, but for those visiting/dining without children, the noise and traffic nearer to the play area can be a bit overpowering, so I would recommend asking for a table at the front of the restaurant area, which is what we would do next time. We'll definitely be returning soon, thank you!

Five of us visited on 3st Jan for a meal and drinks Bar staff were nice, friendly and pleasant...... as were serving staff Pub was not busy but the atmosphere was pleasant However the food kept much to be desired. Sirloin steak was thin, very chewy and very small for the price. Grilled tomato was not grilled and refrigerator cold Mushroom was cold with no flavour Peas were hard and cold Some of the chips were old and must have been hanging around for a while....growing harder Ham and chips was spoilt by cheap and bland meat which appeared to be manufactured. This was never real ham and most of it on two meals was left on the plate. There was a lot of it but less of a better quality meat would be an improvement. Dipping curry sauce for onion rings was refrigerator cold. Onion rings were cold and unpleasant. This may have been a bad night for the cooking staff but surely somebody in the kitchen must be made responsible for checking it was "good to go" Between us we ordered two ham, eggs and chips one steak one scampi and one burger. We are not over critical people but nobody really enjoyed their meal and much of it was kept on the plate. I cannot recommend any of the food we purchased. We were in town to visit a 90 year old uncle and complaining on the spot would have spoiled the evening more.

Really nice place - we had three carverys and there was a problem with my vegetarian one (I suspect it was because of my own misunderstanding, so not even the staff's fault!) The error was very quickly rectified, and staff were very friendly about it - I didn't feel for an instant that I was being a nuisance. I reckon mistakes can always happen, but the important thing is how the mistake is dealt with, and this was exemplary customer service. If their manager can identify the staff member who was serving at the carvery counter at 17.00 on Sun 8th Dec, please say a massive thank you for being so amazingly brilliant about the Vegetarian Problem! Once we had our food it was lovely - even my nut roast was tasty, too often the vegetarian option is some bland afterthought reluctantly tacked on to the menu, but someone had put some thought into making sure this tasted nice. And THE SPROUTS WEREN'T SOGGY!! What more can I say! Love it, will definitely be back

Was met with a curt manager who snapped that the delay was due to the one starter ordered. Mains came out after an hour and 15 minutes. School dinners come to mind; cheap oven chips, bullet peas and a cremated steak. Both steak meals returned and refund issued. Best for a drink, avoid food, especially at peak times.

Nice enough pub to stop for a bite of lunch on our way further south! Prawn baguette was delicious and the ham ploughman's too. No local cider, and service a little slow... but we're from London! Very friendly staff, so nice enough all round.

Visited here on holiday and enjoyed a variety of curries at the curry night buffet. Food was cooked well, presented with care and tasted delicious. Chef was working alone as other chef had called in unwell and despite this kept calm and worked hard with the team to ensure the customers were not left disappointed. Well done everyone, a great meal and thoroughly recommended. We will come back and taste the carvery next time we visit.

The inside of the pub is lovely and there us an outdoor area where you can smoke, although there are some steps to get to it. We had a lovely burger for lunch and good beer. We don't live locally but always go to this pub when in Taunton. Staff are friendly and helpful
