Lovely pub for a walking route stay over. Staff were really lovely and friendly, evening meal was really good and they pulled a decent pint of Black Sheep to boot. Hotel room was really comfy and a great place to rest between days of walking. The only downside was the loudmouth at the bar most of the evening - Smithy if his bellowing was to be believed. He seemed intent on chatting up the female bar staff when they were there and talking lewdly about them to his mates when they weren’t. Made those of us eating in the bar area feel awkward as his loudness and crude discussion about the staff was inappropriate and borderline sexual harassment - something for the pub management to keep an eye on going forward.

Decided to call in for lunch after visiting St Mary's church with the mouseman carvings. Had egg mayonnaise and fish finger sandwich, both very good although I did find the batter on the fish finger a little sickly by the end of the sandwich. A little bit expensive but overall a very pleasant lunch.

Had a lovely family birthday meal on Sunday and the lunch was the best I’ve had in a long time! Loads!!!! of fresh vegetables, PERFECT roasties and good puds! A regular haunt for our family and the waiting team are always very accommodating and sweet.

A change in our reservation handled promptly and efficiently. Friendly welcome upon arrival and given the choice of a table in the bar area or the quiet dining room. Accepting the dining room, we found it was a bit dark but had rustic charm. Seating was adequate but could have been a tadge more comfortable. We went for a mixed Seafood Platter which was plentiful and varied - enough for everyone and nicely presented. Good selection of beers and wines. Good service and friendly and price compared well with other places we’ve eaten in.

We all work hard to earn our income and when you spend it on disappointing food it niggles. The service and staff were lovely the pub itself is really nice but the food was below par. I ordered from the specials menu expecting it to be, well special. A thin pastry topped chicken and mushroom pie including bone and cartilage 🤢. Not great. Sausage and mash for nearly £20 is expensive pub food.

Really disappointed as we used to love this place under the previous owners and enjoyed it when it initially was taken by current owners but its going down hill. Went for a family meal with a vegetarians. Vegetarian option was Wellington but it was not available so she just had to have vegetables with Yorkshire pudding, pork dinner was told it would have crackling... but none, fish and chips was soggy batter underneath the fish, a member of the party had to leave the table to ask for someone to take our order for dessert after waiting about half an hour, a member of the party had to leave the table to ask for the bill after waiting for 20 minutes and then after another 20 minutes had to leave the table and ask again. Also drinks were expensive asked for a medium and large dry white wine and it came to over £20.

Weekend visit, nice welcome. Decided to eat inside, and child in our party brought pens paper straight away. The fish and chips were delicious, prawn sandwich with salad fresh and plenty of prawns but very surprised that it was ‘clubbed’ so too much bread for our liking. The side of chips were divine, triple cooked and yummy. Child choice of hotdog was huge. Everyone enjoyed our lunch.

2 nights in the woodsman annexe, Sunday 11th August 2024, we didn't know that to get to the annexe we had to go through someone's garden with large barking dogs , not good. Had a table booked for evening meal we were given a table with bar stools, not good. Cauliflower wellington as big as a dinner plate with very little filling served with a Yorkshire pudding, who on earth thinks it that's right.lamb pie with very little lamb just tasting of rosemary, not good. Veg average, chips good, we had the service charge removed because I didn't think it was worth tipping.reported at time of paying. Will eat elsewhere tomorrow . 2nd day ,had to request a normal table and chairs at breakfast if you like very crispy bacon to break teeth on you'll love it. Breakfast on final morning after negotiating our way through the dog mess from the annexe our bar stools were waiting , declined them and ate in the bar.would never recommend!.

Nice pub in a pretty village. Room was fine, if a little warm but that can’t be helped, food was very good and staff were pleasant. In fact everything was great until breakfast - or not as it turned out. Was asked to complete breakfast choices and time (breakfast is 8 to 10). Handed my form in and duly arrived for breakfast at 8am. Dining room was set up so I made myself comfortable and waited…and waited….and waited. After 20 minutes I checked reception and the main bar area but literally no one to be found. There may have been someone in the kitchen but there certainly wasn’t a smell of any bacon cooking, and it’s not down to me to go wandering around the kitchens anyway. Eventually I conceded defeat as I wouldn’t have had time to wait for someone to cook it, let alone time to eat it, so left my room key on reception as I had a 9am meeting in Ripon to get to. I have literally never stayed anyway where they just didn’t bother serving breakfast. Especially frustrating as they specifically asked the night before and even wrote 8am on the sheet for me. Furthermore, I have medication that can only be taken with food which I couldn’t take until I arrived in Ripon, leaving me in significant discomfort. Disappointing end to what should have been a pleasant stay and a much more positive review.

Easily the best Sunday Roast we’ve ever had. Exceptional food and lovely friendly staff. Bonus points for being so dog friendly. Would recommend to anyone, worth making a trip to Kilburn for. There were 6 of us and all of our food was served quickly and was piping hot. Staff were so friendly and able to make some changes to the menu for us (eg smaller portion for a smaller person) Puds not to be missed either.

Wow. What a lovely place. We stayed here for 1 night. We stayed in the woodmans annex which is not part of the pub building. It a one minute walk away. The room was very spacious very clean and very well presented. We had a evening meal in the pub. I had game pie. Other half had fish and chips. Both were very generous portions and very tasty. We were by Duncan and Katie who were both very pleasant people. Breakfast in the morning was really good. All high quality produce and lots of it. A good way to start the day. Will definitely return. Thank you to you all at the foresters arms.

We were having a short break in Thirsk and called at the Forresters Arms on spec and what an excellent choice it turned out to be. Everything about our visit was perfect, starting with the staff who were so friendly and helpful, down to the food which was utterly delicious and, finally, those all-important spotless toilets. I started with sweet potato, squash and coconut soup, served with warm bread and butter on an equally warm plate. For my main, I stayed traditional with a dish of sausages, mash and veg (great selection of mange tout, diced carrots and broccoli stems) whilst my friend had the belly pork pizza which was topped with lots of cheese and barbeque sauce. Both our meals were massive and defeated us to the point of desserts being out of the question! We really were stuffed to bursting point and barely managed to waddle out! Before we left though, we visited the loos and were amazed to see a large selection of different sized nappies, just in case mum, dad or anyone else caring for a baby had been caught on the hop without a spare nappy. The staff and food were faultless but, having a supply of nappies for those emergency situations spoke volumes to me about the Forresters Arms and its staff.

Spacious room, clean and loaded with charm. The beverage tray in our included mouse-shaped biscuits in keeping with the Robert Thompson ("mouse man") craftsman - their showroom is right next door. (Became acquainted with this furniture while in Kilburn, so a fun "bonus"). Service was great and complimentary breakfast was delicious. We had dinner both nights of our stay and everything we had was tasty! Lovely location - very picturesque. Served as a great home base while we were exploring this area.

Lovely clean dog friendly rooms, nice bar, located in a gorgeous village of Kilburn. Booked on the day and arrived to be greeted by friendly staff. It felt very much like a family run pub. Aside from the good, dog friendly accommodation and stunning village location. The reasonably priced quality food was what stood out for us. We had the belly pork and Pork Chop. Both where healthy sized portions and some good that we ordered the sticky toffee pudding and cheese boards for deserts. These where also spot on. We will be back to sample the other dishes.

This was booked as part of a Christmas present and I was very disappointed. The welcome wasn't exactly warm, the owners are more interested in chatting to the locals. The room was stuffy and the carpet needed cleaning. Bits kept falling off in the bathroom. The evening meal was OK but only one choice for vegetarians and no change to the choice for the second night - we ate somewhere else which meant one of us driving. The bed and pillows were very uncomfortable. Breakfast consisted of a couple of cheap bowls of cereal, yogurts left on a shelf (getting warm and going off) and two eggs on a very cheap slice of toast with an extra slice put into a dish. Could have paid more for a full English but as a vegetarian there is no point. We skipped breakfast too on the second day.

Called today after walking round the White Horse with our Jack Russell. Welcomed by a very amiable landlord, chatty, helpful and humorous. Had a lovely dinner in a lovely location by an open fire. Really enjoyed it. Recommend the pie.

We were bought a voucher for Christmas to eat here. The food was just as expected. Nothing fancy but just good home cooked filling food. Pate and fishcake to start followed with a gamon and a lasagne main. We were too full to fit in a pudding.

We had a trip around the Robert Thompson factory. We were so engaged that we were late for lunch at the local pub. We asked the land lady if she could give us anything to eat although the kitchen was closed. She was very accommodating, she offered us home made Bakewell tart or Malt cake. We opted for a portion of each along with a pint of Theakstons beer. SUPER. We had our 40 KG dog with us. Again a warm welcome for him.Never had beer and cake before, but very nice.If you find yourself in the area, call into the Forresters.

Popped in on a Sunday lunch for a quick drink - not very busy but pleasant enough service with a nice log fire burning in the main room.

We stayed here with our friends whilst dining at a local restaurant. The pub is lovely & used by locals and visitors alike. The landlord did not smile the whole time we were in the bar & generally seemed put out by non locals. We stayed in Room 8. This was a very basic room and in need of modernisation. It was over the kitchen and smells from the kitchen came in, there was a generate running all night which kept us awake most of the night. Both the bed & bath squeaked. The hairdryer in the room was useless, it’s stuck to the wall and you have to keep your thumb pressed down to use it. Bring your own! There were several extension leads in the room, all out of date for PAT testing! One was for the kettle so you could balance it on the window sill to boil... health & safety nightmare. The one plus was the breakfast was lovely. I have paid less for much superior rooms. £110 is over priced this room is worth £80 tops. They have obviously not stayed in their own rooms, they should try it....

What a little gem of a cafe. Breakfast service is personal and welcoming. The menu was taylored to my choice and so tasty. Yet to enjoy the evening menu but it always looks so warm and welcome when I drive by in an evening.

Owen hosted our wedding reception. Lovely family do (7 bridesmaids and 3 pageboys between 5 and 10) with an outside BBQ. Happy for us to put up a bouncy castle. Really relaxed feel. We put up gazebos in case it rained so we could cover an outside area to seat 48. We had a band inside later. Room to dance. Couldn’t have asked for more.

A cut above your normal Sunday pub lunch. Excellent presentation and really tasty. Not the normal boiled veg. Very good.

Gorgeous little spot and great local cheese and tea and scones and chutney. Friendly staff too, who chatted with us for a while. They gave us free apples as well.
