Stopped in here on a Friday night. It’s a proper pub with a lively atmosphere. Delicious pizza is available on Friday night and I think maybe Saturday. Dog friendly as well

My family decided one Sunday to go out for an impromptu meal at our local pub. We decided to go to the Foresters Arms and try the Oriental Kitchen and I am so pleased that we did. The meal was delicious, all the food was freshly cooked and really flavoursome. We went for the Sunday all you can eat option so had starters, crispy duck and main courses including noodles and rice. All the dishes were devine and the kids thoroughly enjoyed their meals - Clean plates all round. We certainly will be going back.

A top quality establishment, a hidden gem on the outskirts of Horsham. A really friendly welcome always awaits from Colin, Pam and the team every time. A good pub always relies on a well kept cellar, the beer is always of a high standard. Been using the place for years, always accommadating especially when we held my grandmother's 99th birthday lunch a while ago, the staff went the extra mile to ensure appropriate access and that we had a great time and were able to mark the occasion in such a special way. The best public house in Horsham!!

Just had an uncomfortable experience today. I went to the Foresters Arms in Horsham. Saw my friends outside, greeted them and went in. Started the sign in procedure and asked for a beer. The Landlord was quite aggressive. " Sanitize your hands first" was his reply. I was quite taken aback as this was my next step. I said to him," You realise in these days of Covid-19 guidelines we are quite aware of how we do things and I am following the guidance? His hostile response was that people don't follow guidelines. Go and sit down and you will be served. I was quite shocked at his attitude. I went outside and talked to my friends. Ralph had a major stroke leaving him wheelchair bound. They had asked the Landlord for access to the garden. He basically refused even though you could see a direct path there without disturbing health and safety reasons. So they were stuck outside the front of the pub on the path, impinging on everyone's access. Ralph's partner told him that he was discriminating the disabled and wasn't happy to no avail. It seems I got the backend of his displeasure at being challenged about disabled access. What he didn't realise is that I am disabled as well. His treatment of my friends was inexcusable. The Landlord has rightly stopped the back entrance as an entrance. I asked on a previous occasion to use the back entrance to lessen my journey home and told it not possible? We are not talking about a difficult decision. Simply to help me to see my friends and make it accessible to everyone. And not feel belittled and embarrassed for our disability. I am upset and humiliated by this experience

A little while ago a band that I follow announced a last minute gig at the Foresters Arms. A pub I had never heard of before! I checked to see if they did food ...luckily they did! My partner and I chose the roast beef (well it was Sunday!). I can honestly say it was one of the best pub roast dinners I can remember eating. The beef was so tender you could cut it with a fork. All the vegetables were perfectly cooked too. We even got a gravy boat on the table if we wanted more. We asked the chef his secret....he cooks the beef overnight 'sous vide' apparently which makes it melt in the mouth tender.I can thoroughly recommend this pub for Sunday lunch.... a truly memorable one for us!

After visiting the pub recently for a drink and finding it really friendly we decided to make a reservation for dinner. I cannot believe I have not eaten here before. The staff are amazingly friendly and welcoming. The chef spoke to us about the menu and suggested the lighter options which I opted for. Myself and my companions all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. We couldn't fault the meals or the service. I believe this to be a good old fashioned pub that has ' chef' not just a cook as so may appear to have. Will definitely be returning and taking friends.

Visited with friends on a Saturday evening and found the staff friendly, welcoming and very efficient. I chose the fish cake starter which was excellent and a burger which was clearly home made and delicious. My wife had pate to start and steak which was cooked to perfection. Sadly no room for desserts which looked delicious. Will visit again and highly recommend.

The pub is a little old fashioned on the inside, but the garden out the back is lovely (and backs onto a playing field so ideal if you take your dog), the staff are very nice & friendly & the food is very tasty! I believe the kitchen is independent of the pub itself, and a new chef recently took over the kitchen. The chef has done a great job of creating a new menu with some very nice pub dishes. We had a couple of burgers while we were there - my husband had beef & blue cheese & I had a veggie burger which was halloumi (nice big slabs! Definitely not a short serving!) & portobello mushroom with all the trimmings. My burger was delicious & my husband assures me his was very good too. The menu declares that all the puddings are made by the chef’s mum! I thought this was really sweet! I would have loved to have tried something but I was a bit full up from the burger - maybe next time! The pub is both child & dog friendly which is lovely. We took our baby with us & there were a couple of other children & several labradors lounging around when we were there. We’ll definitely be back to enjoy another burger (& hopefully a pudding made by the chef’s mum!) & a nice glass of wine in the garden during the long summer evenings ahead.

Visited again after an email saying new chef again! Quite busy as a sunny day, 40 minute wait for food, ordered food only to be told they had run out of burgers, ordered a roast and a bowl of chips. Roast was average, lots of veg but nothing special, chips tasted as if they had been cooked in old oil, hard to explain but you could taste the oil and a slight fishy taste, did mention it and waitress said she would tell the chef. It is such a shame as this is a lovely traditional pub and deserves to do well. Hopefully these are teething problems and this chef will do well for the pub, wish you well for the future, perhaps we will give it another try - after a while!

Having eaten here in April and given a bad review we saw that there is now a new chef and last night thought we would give it another go. What a difference! The food was back to good honest pub grub our fish and chips was huge and wonderful chunky chips, burger was great and wild mushroom risotto was really tasty. Complements to the new chef and we will definitely be back again as always loved the food before. Well done p Foresters.

Visited here last night as had seen new menu & chef in place. 3 in the group ordered burgers, one a steak & I ordered a steak pie that sounded really nice on the menu. The food was awful . I was waiting for my meal as the others had been served and was then told my fish would be with me shortly!? I thought I had misheard but apparently not! I was told they had no pies so I was having fish instead..........none of this had been discussed with me . I made a very quick decision to take the fish as my family had their food in front of them and it was getting cold. My fish was greasy and the quality of the meal was poor. Will not be going back ........... spoilt my night as it was me that suggested going there!

Having had some fantastic meals at this pub when the restaurant was run by the previous chef we had high hopes of the new electro pilot restaurant launched at the Foresters by Matt Gillan. We looked at the menu online which showed a good range of choice so we booked a table to eat on a Saturday night. I ordered the fish and chips described online as battered haddock fillets with triple cooked chunky chips pea fritter and homemade tartar sauce. My husband ordered the cheese burger again with triple cooked chips. What we actually got bearded no resemblance to this! My fish was a very small battered fillet served with French fries not home made and no pea fritter. My husbands burger had a strange looking mayonnaise type sauce in the bun and no cheese and was so sloppy the bun fell apart. Again was served with French fries. We were not at all impressed and our guests did not get their side order of veg. We had to send the burger back which meant my husband got his meal when we had almost finished ours. This restaurant had some great reviews with the previous chef and everything was home made and definitely value for money. It is a real shame as this is a lovely local pub and we often came to eat on a Friday or Saturday evening. Unfortunately we will not be eating again but will still frequent the pub to drink. This review has no reflection on the pub and its staff. Such a shame as it was such a good place to eat locally before.

We heard great things about this place and liked the menu from the website. However once we saw the decor and absorbed the ambience of the restaurant area (only one other table was occupied), we lost confidence in the menu, so we tried to play it safe by ordering fish and chips and a burger. I am sorry to say we didn’t enjoy our meal. It was not well presented (see photos) and didn’t taste or smell nice (the smell of the fish was overwhelming). Our red wine was cold. It felt very amateurish and the ambience was in conflict with the price of the 6 specials and additional sides (£4) on the menu. It just didn’t feel right and having left home at 7pm for a relaxing evening to end the week, we were home by 8.15. We didn’t complain. It was Friday. We’d had a hard week and just wanted a laid back Friday night out without any fuss. This place didn’t meet our expectations. Maybe they were too high having heard so many good things?

This place is a bit of an oxymoron. The pub is traditional in every sense, it doesn't do new fangled drinks, anything above a J2O is out and since I'm not drinking at the moment and didn't want a juice I was left with water. Husband was happy with his IPA and 8 year old lemonade. They don't do fancy! However the restaurant - bleak in it's decoration and heated with an electric heater - is a marvel. I'd wanted to try it as it's run by Matt Gillan of The Pass and Pine & Pike fame and I was lucky enough to have my 40th at The Pass, so fond memories. He's started a casual dining brand called Electro Pirate and here it is at the Foresters. So you can have burgers or fish and chips but you can also have some really amazing stuff too. I had 3 starters: treacle cured salmon, then pork belly which was out of this world and then crab with pear and fennel salad. It was DELICIOUS! Husband had beef with noodles and chili and said it was very good but blew his head off so not for the feint hearted. I'm liking this brand. Well done Matt, good to see someone shaking up pub food, it's gotten so boring everywhere else.

This place really needs to work on its front of house staff. Never have we felt more unwelcome in a pub. We have visited a couple of times with friends in an afternoon (we all have kids) and it is quite clear that children are not welcome but more ever so slightly tolerated. Think their missing the fact that with those children come 10 adults that are drinking for a couple of hours. We live 2 minute walk from this pub but alas we will not be going here again. Back to the hornbrook for us or one of the pubs in town that are welcoming during the day.

Visited here on a Friday evening with friends. We had main and desserts. The food while tasty was not overly hot and made worse by the fact we had to sit and wait for our side orders to be delivered. Generally the service was lacking, while the staff tried hard I think they were just too stretched but the place was not overly busy. The surroundings also let the place down a little but I do know they have plans to try and sort that over time. Overall a good place for food if you can look past the surrounding and service. I had the pork belly which was good followed by the strawberry cheesecake which was great. Also be warned that the pub has no parking and so you have to park on the road which can lead to you needing to park quite some distance away and walk.

I have the pork scratchings to start which were a let down, they were caked in this flour that I was later told was a crackling dust, however mix this with the condensation off my nicely chilled wine, meant I managed to make pig glue. This got everywhere. The scratchings were nice but I'd ease off on the pixie dust. Burger was pleasant enough although I'd probably set my own expectations a little too high. Chef Matt Gillan has taken over the catering at this local pub under his electro pirate brand. Generally a very good experience but some work still to be done. All starters and mains were perfect for the location and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. However I can imagine the menu may get tired once you have visited a few times. Food was a high standard for the price/location. The pub itself needs updating, very tired in places. Lots of the garden benches are in desperate need of repair. Will revisit, hope they make some upgrades to the pub soon.

I was excited to try the food here knowing that its is endorsed by Matt Gillan. The Sunday menu was fairly standard looking, the pork loin jumped out to me as it was served with ‘pickled apple’ but unfortunately I was only offered apple sauce which was disappointingly out of a jar. The pork was good, not at all dry and the cauliflower cheese and green veg were really nice. The roast potatoes were not great, possibly reheated as not at all crispy and a bit over done.

I really like this pub, and it deserves to be higher up the rankings. It's well out of the town centre on a quiet road so possibly not very well known, but i suspect is better than any of the central Horsham pubs. I don't know if it's especially ancient but it is a proper pub as well as being a decent place to eat. It seems well supported by locals from what i can tell. I've visited 3 time in the past year and on each occasion both food and beer were excellent. The main bar area is cosy with a wood-burning stove and wooden chairs and benches. Harvey's Sussex is a regular but i've also had some good guest ales. The sweet potato fries are a delicious way to tide over hungry diners until the mains arrive (far better than bags of crisps). My top tip is the chicken liver and bacon which is delicious and good value. It's pub food, but well done and at competitive prices. Oh and there's a large rear garden which is fine in summer.

Unfortunately I don't get out to local Horsham inns very often and although this place is very handily situated not far from home, haven't been for nearly 2 years. That was a nice warm evening in Summer and I and a couple of acquaintances sat at one of the tables in the front garden and enjoyed a couple of pints. The atmosphere has always been good and the service friendly. It's a very attractive building.Have eaten here several times and always enjoyed the meal, but some time ago.

Our local, so probably somewhat biased. The staff are great and often know what you want to drink even before you have made up your mind!!The food is excellent, fresh, home cooked and enough choice on the menu to keep you interested. Nick's burger is a winner and the Sunday roast is one of the best around. There is always a guest ale on the pump, well worth a try. Respectable and friendly crowd. Dog and child friendly, but under control, which is the way it should be.

Thursday night. Not impressed with tonight's staff member who made us feel unwelcome. Been coming here for over 10 years and this chap just doesn't like people. Was the last to leave (on time) and got shouted at, as we left. Please Foresters is this it? No personality, no care! We normally support independent places but this person has changed 4 local opinions.

On a recent totally unscheduled stop, I stopped off at The Foresters Arms for a drink with a companion. We were very pleasantly surprised by the choice of draught beers and the atmosphere.

This is our new local so we thought we'd give it a try. We found it a welcoming, traditional pub with good ales. Seemed a locals regular spot, with chilled out dogs tucked under tables to prove it. Tex mex nacho starter wasn't your usual bought in tortilla chips but handmade fried nachos with tasty toppings. Pie special of the day was delicious. We'll definitely be back!

I'm lucky enough visit Horsham a few times each year and always try to go here to eat. This small traditional pub in a residential area has great food. You can either eat in the bar the small dining room or in the garden. Do check their homepage first to see when the kitchen is open.

because the main roast dinner was massive!!!!Wife and I came here for a nice roast on a sunday lunchtime and we were not disspointed at all. Both of us had starters - I had the calamari and she had the whitebait - which all though was not on the 'starter' menu, but the 'bar snacks', they were still more than happy to provide as a starter. The calamari was cooked perfectly - almost melt in the mouth and not rubbery - and was in a lovely batter which had a little kick to it.The whitebait was pretty much a main course on its own. A mountain of fish, served piping hot and was delicious. Then came the main. Wow. We had the roast beef - as far as I could tell, only one roast is served on the day; either beef, lamb, or (I think) pork. So it is probably worth checking in advance what they're serving, if you don't like or can't eat any of these. Concentrating on the one meat, rather than offering two or three, means that they are cooked beautifully and served plentiful! 4-5 slices of meat, accompanied by peas, carrots, cauliflower, red cabbage, a whole bunch of roast potatoes and a massive yorkshire pudding left us both stuffed, with unfortunately no room for what I could only imagine to be an epic pudding (based on the starters and main)!Service was quick and friendly (we were in and out in an hour, without rushing to eat our food), although I could well imagine, that with seating in the restaurant area only holding about 16, it could get rather busy (although I believe you can eat in the bar area too and there is a large garden, for when/if the weather is nice). Book to be safe! We've been here before for an evening meal on a saturday and we served with just as high quality food. This really is a little gem of a pub, serving great quality and well priced food and I'm just now looking for any excuse to come back and carry on working my way through the menu!

I am a regular visitor to the forester’s arms; the pub is very traditional set up with the bar located in the middle and odd tables and chairs dotted around a warm old brick fireplace. The pub is cosy with lots of nooks and crannies for a more inmate drink or meal. They have a wide drinks selection here including local ales. The bar staff are really friendly and are good at their jobs. You can always guarantee on a warm welcome and a smile. If you are visiting this pub I would recommend going there for food, the food is amazing. It is presented beautiful and really good value for money.

We have been to this pub before just for drinks after visiting very good friends who are locals, but this visit we had Saturday dinner. The interior is traditional pub layout and formal dining room, I would recommend eating in the pub bar a lot more atmosphere. The food is not your run of the mill stuff ,is it presented very contemporary but with generous portions and tastes fantastic, would not be out of place in a fine restaurant, it's that good. My wife had the classic ale battered fish which went down a treat and I had veggie taggli pasta, creamy winey perfect! Very friendly staff so all in all a great place to visit, if local or just passing!, Great cask beers as well. Thanks for a great nite

Pub garden really nice, with access to Bennett's park. Menu choice excellent, food arrived fairly quick and hot. Bar staff mentioned that they didn't run the kitchen which was a bit strange. But we were impressed and will return.

The Foresters in a lovely pub with friendly staff and happy to accept dogs. Went in for a drink with some friends one evening and sat by a lovely fire and the landlady even had some treats and a drink of water for our 4 legged friend.

Started regularly eating at The Foresters Arms after a change in menu and chef. The food is considerably better then before which was traditional pub grub, fine in itself but the new menu gives you the option of fish and chips, homemade pie or home made burger but also a few different options like cordon bleu or pan fried calves liver. Whatever you choose it's not expensive and you won't be disappointed, we paid £32 for 2 large glasses of wine, 2 mains and a shared homemade cheesecake. It is a local pub with regulars but everyone is friendly and you won't hear the tumble weed as you enter, it's usually comfortably lively on a Friday and Saturday night and you may have to book if you want to ensure a table or a Sunday roast. Try it you may just return time again like us!

I thoroughly enjoyed my summer greens risotto and passion fruit creme brûlée, my husband wolfed down his cod and chips and sticky toffee pudding, my son demolished his fish cake followed by home made ice cream. I'm told all of the food is freshly prepared on the premises and it shows. I would recommend you give it a try if you haven't been for a while. We'll certainly be back! N.b. you can check out the menu on the website...Also the beer garden has a gate directly into Bennetts Field, a park with playground - very handy for walking a fractious little one around.

I ate here a couple of years ago and to be frank it was the usual frozen food from Bookers or Brake bros with a personal touch to try and hide the boring fare. it was acceptable but frankly not impressive for the money. However, i read a review that said things had changed and thought i'd try it out again. So glad I did, the food is much better, fresh, local, and had that ingredient that so many so-called gastropubs lack - taste. This guy isn't trying too hard, he keeps it simple and allows the flavour of what are clearly high quality ingredients to shine through. The welcome by Marsha the landlady was heartfelt, the service well above average and the recommendations ideal. the price wasn't too high either. most tables were reserved as it was a sunday but we still managed to squeeze in.This is clearly a "locals" pub that is trying to win over a new clientele. Well, they can include me in, if everything on the menu was as good as the dishes i ate then I'll be back as soon as I can.

Visited this Horsham pub on a Saturday evening with friends. The menu has be revamped as has the function room that will be used for eating. The choice is not huge, but is probably a good thing as it is freshly prepared by the new chef. there is a different pie as a special each day. They also do a daily risotto if my memory serves me well. Had the goats cheese salad to start followed by the risotto, both good and homely. Husband had the t-bone steak, which was good value at £12.00. Desserts were fine, no chocolate choice but had a sticky toffee pudding. I would suggest that they give some thought to the puddings in the way that they have done to the rest of the menu. The waitress/bar maid was very friendly and attentive but not in your face. What I did like about it here was that you still felt you were in a pub and that they have not 'bigged' themselves up as so many places do without actually being able to deliver at that standard. There is also a garden should the weather ever improve enough to use!We will be eating here again and I wish them well for keeping it real.

Nice enough pub, with a reasonable drinks selection and friendly staff. We visited for a family lunch (on recommendation) and the place is very geared up for food. However, the food is absolutely dreadful: over cooked, bland and (in the case of the bao buns that I had) inedibly dry. Seems very popular, for reasons unknown to this visitor.

We ordered breakfast at out table and it was delivered quickly with every detail perfectly executed. The food was hot and fresh and really tasty. The drinks were also perfect. I paid what I thought was a fair price and will definitely be returning. You’ll go a long way to find better food in Horsham.

Unfortunately we felt on this occasion the food really was not up to the usual standard - whitebait over cooked - chips not their usual crispy delicious standard - but everyone has an off day and we said it would not deter us from returning HOWEVER we found out as we were leaving that after 14 years of trading the Orchard is due to close at the end of September 😔 So sad as , as a family some who are no longer with us it was always are “go to” place for a good quality home cooked meal . So what ever the owners plans are for the future we wish them good luck 😋
