Food, so so. Service, same & atmosphere, 3 is probably on the high side! Shame, it used to be so much better but they're trying to hard and not being successful!

Jordan was super attentive. The food was absolutely stunning. Can’t wait to come back.

The food is fantastic, but the service needs improving. We arrived on a Monday at 6pm. We were the first people to be seated. The menu was small, so it didn’t take too long to read. We waited 10-15 minutes until someone came to take our order. The waiter only wanted to take our drinks, but we insisted we give our order too as we had waited so long. The food was terrific. I was pleased with the taste, but when it came to clearing our plates and offering dessert, the tables that had finished after us were tended to first, and we ended up waiting 20 minutes until I had to go up and ask the waitress for the bill. Eventually, the bill arrived with a service charge added on, but the staff did not give any service apart from serving our drinks and food. The waiter then disappeared for 5 minutes, and then he showed up with a card machine, and we paid the discretionary charge. I would love to come again, but the servers need to improve.

Food for Friends was recommended to us and it certainly lived up to it too! We visited on a Monday, so typically a quieter day of the week and was surprised to see it open so we took the plunge and didn't look back. From entering to leaving the staff are really nice and helpful, the atmosphere is quiet (it was a Monday post lunch) but you didn't feel you could be heard by your neighbours. The food, well, where do I start! It's amazing. The colour, the taste, the presentation. We went for large plates and were very satisfied. We even squeezed a dessert in. Nice selection of wine too so we really did push the boat out. We don't usually post reviews but Food for Friends deserves all the praise you can heap on them. Don't delay, book and travel (as we did) to Brighton today!!

An early dinner, wonderful service as usual and lively outside which give the restaurant a tranquil feel and there is no restaurant music which is great. I went for lunch in February with a friend and my partner and I wanted to go as well. Food always amazing although not entirely something you cant prepare yourself at home. I had a fantastic marguerita, house red (delicious), partner had Jalfreizi but unfortunately I ordered the miso aubergine which was awful. Didnt taste of aubergine or miso, very thick - I left it and just had the lovely garlic sourdough bread which i wasnt unhappy about. The waitress asked if everything was ok and my partner said 'yes' so I felt unable to say 'actually no'. We therefore paid for it but it was left on the plate. I order miso aubergine elsewhere and it is stunning (i.e. Ivy Asia, and other cheaper establishments). Overall, comfy and nice food but I would avoid this dish.

Our first time here. Visiting Brighton for a wedding so didn’t know where to go to eat as I’m vegan. Oh my god, absolutely amazing. So inventive with the food, just beautiful. Jordan was wonderful, really looked after us. Would highly recommend and if I’m back in Brighton I’ll definitely be back

Really medium food for high end prices - the out of a supermarket bag salad was slimy and the other dishes were pretty tasteless. We sat there for 25 minutes before anyone took our order. The decor is shabby and the loos quite yucky. Not great for £150.

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! Did a google search for vegan places to eat and so glad we chose to come here. Beautiful place, staff are super friendly (Jordan is lovely) and helpful and the food is just phenomenal! Thank you so much ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, and the staff was friendly and attentive. Even non-vegetarians would enjoy the food here because everything was so well-prepared. If you’re looking for a great vegetarian restaurant, I highly recommend Food for Friends. I’ll definitely be coming back!

My teacher told me about this vegetarian restaurant and recommended it to me many times! I’m so happy I finally got to try it because it was really a pleasant discovery! Me and my friends chose four different small plates to share and the food was really nice. I was the only one among us to be a vegetarian but all of us enjoyed these delicious dishes. I’m definitely going to come back!

Truly brilliant restaurant in a pretty venue in Brighton with really friendly staff. Food was all delicious and perfectly cooked, the pumpkin pasta was creamy and super tasty, and the tofu and aubergine to start along with the bread were all beautifully cooked & plated - I don’t think I could complain even if I tried. I’m not normally a dessert person, but actually the pineapple tart was very tasty - and it was interesting in that the acidity of the pineapple was a focus in a sense and wasn’t just deliberately drowned out with sugar, which I liked. I would strongly recommend to anyone wanting a slightly more upscale restaurant in Brighton.

Have known and loved this place since it began and was excited to return on a visit to Brighton. But it was so disappointing. The staff were fabulous, attentive and keen to help but the food was not very good, not properly hot and not very tasty. And what was an imaginative and innovative menu when I last visited (and which has always been my experience) was much reduced to a rather limited and not particularly tasty offering. Much too expensive for mediocre food. Really hope fff can turn this round ... they are an institution and it would be awful to see them go.

Teníamos muchas ganas de visitar Brighton hoy para celebrar nuestro aniversario de bodas y almorzar en Food For Friends. Cuando llegamos era muy tranquilo, pero el servicio era tan lento que arruinó toda la experiencia. Las bebidas tardaron 30 minutos en aparecer, los entrantes casi una hora y los principales casi 90 minutos. Estábamos tan hartos en este punto que decidimos ir a otro lugar de postre. Increíblemente caro y decepcionante. La próxima vez llevaremos el dinero que tanto nos costó ganar a otra parte.

I'm not vegan, but I like vegan restaurants, and it's the best vegan restaurant I've eaten in the UK... I have to come again!! I want to try all the menus🥹

To be honest, I thought vegan food was not my kind of thing but this place has changed my mind💓 pumkin linguine was amazing!

I don't know how this place gets such a overall high rating, although see a lot of them are from 'Local Guides'. Visited recently for dinner. The restaurant/seating itself is pleasant, but the food quite poor, especially at over £80 for two (1 glass of wine). Starters OK, but nothing you couldn't make yourself. The mains were disappointing though. In the Batata Vada the very large bed of beetroot & juice everthing else swims in was a bit undercooked, and hard to see anything Sri Lankan about it. Ditto the rice. The croquettes were fine. The Eggplant Parmigiana was worse: not cooked in a traditional, lasagne or mousakka-like way, just some rolled and very rubbery, undercooked aubergine with some cheese and tomato sauce. Feels to me like the current owners are living off the name and long history FFFs has in Brighton, and do not have much expertise in vegetarian cookery.

Considerando que éramos 15 el servicio era excelente y cuando salió la comida todo estaba caliente y delicioso. Había una mezcla de vegetarianos y consumidores de carne en el grupo. Todos los que comen carne dijeron que si la comida vegetariana era así en todas partes no extrañarían la carne. Todo el mundo disfrutó de su comida y probablemente probamos la mayor parte del menú entre nosotros. Gracias Comida para Amigos por tan buena comida y servicio. Espero volver pronto.

Lovely evening, great food, delicious truffles at the end. Jordan who served us was great: he was very attentive in just the right way, helpful and enthusiastic. It really added to the evening.

Sat 30 minutes late, took another 30 minutes to order. Very hard to get anyones attention to order anything. Very average food, not worth what it cost at all. Really disappointing evening.

Very average, dull uninspired Sunday roast lunch. And a boiled egg served on the side of a wellington. What's that about for a restaurant like this that's been around for so many years? Decor more like a canteen too. Much better veggie places in Hove .

I had a really lovely lunch at Food for Friends. The service was excellent throughout and the food was delicious. We shared a starter, two small plates and a main and also had a dessert each, and it was plenty of food. The starter of crispy tofu was amazing, I am still thinking about the sauce that came with it. We shared small plates of miso aubergine and cauliflower wings that were delicious, and our shared main noodle salad was great too, spicy and fresh. I had the pavlova for dessert - I am vegan and a decent meringue is maybe one of the only things I miss from my pre-vegan days, and this was that meringue! It was amazing, crispy and chewy with a soft whipped cream and berries - so, so good. My sister had the cheesecake and she really enjoyed that too. The staff are really knowledgeable about the menu and dietary restrictions and were happy to advise what was suitable. I will definitely be back to try more of the menu, and to eat that crispy tofu and pavlova again!

Lovely food! Great choice of vegan and veggie for lunch with friends. It's a great Brighton institution and wonderful to see it going strong as ever.

Haven’t eaten here for awhile but used to really love it , this time the food was average.

I booked Food for Friends for my wife's birthday. My wife is also gluten free. The menu was explained perfectly by our waitress and the food was delicious. The service was brilliant and the ambiance was also lovely. We will certainly go again.

Caveat! I am writing this after an espresso martini and glass of bubbles. So, I'm glowing. This was a meal for one. So, I didn't need to share the fries and delicious chilli allioli that accompanied my excellent veggie burger which was a bonus. The menu, interior and crowd are interesting without being crazy. The only crime is the wine list doesn't have a desert wine to wash down the banging Basque Cheese Cake. The sound level was set to Goldilocks. Not to loud or quiet. Perfect level of chatter. People around me could hold a conversation without shouting. Increasingly rare in a busy place. I will definitely come again. Next time with friends, so I can taste their food too and hop, skip and jump through the menu. (And to think I was going to stop for an emergency McDonald's en route to Brighton.) Staff were attentive, calm and not affected. Really good.

Food was good but it tends too much towards vegan. All but one of the deserts was vegan -. Vegetarians like cream!! Also the parmigiana frankly needs cheese!

We visited second time this restaurant and were slightly dissapointed by the overall experience. The food we ordered was ok although the "large" portion was not actually very big size and the curry my friend ordered - did not have any spices in it. We went there during the day time and were the only customers at the time. I had to stand up twice during my meal to get attention/assistance as none was around , which I found slightly annoying. Finally when it came to make the payment, we were not informed about the Service charge, until we saw it on our bill later that 12.5 % was added to our payment as "Discretionary Service Charge" . I fealt that service charges should be earned by service provider and if customer wishes then adds extra "Tip" to the original bill. It should have been communicated to us and our verbal concent should have been obtained instead of adding 12.5% automatically to our bill. Based on the above experience we had, it is unlikely we will visit this place again.

Excellent vegetarian food, really delicious. We arrived early for our booking but it wasn't a problem. Not cheap, but worth it as a treat. Our table was positioned so the diner at the next table was staring straight at us which was very disconcerting!

Stopped in for a quick bite to eat. Emily and Jordan were on top form with the service, kind and attentive. Food came out quicker than expected and was very well cooked. Really enjoyed the experience

An excellent meal in a lovely restaurant. First time for a long time on a Sunday so the Wellington roasts were a pleasant surprise. The highlight for me was the Cauliflower Wings with a hoisin sauce.

We had been looking forward to the Sunday roast coming back on the menu but there must be a new chef as todays was nothing like what we had before The veg was not properly roasted and the pastry on the wellington not cooked through The flavour of the wellington was more of an Indian flavour in itself pleasant just not as nice as the previous beetroot & mushroom wellington. Such a shame as the customer service is always very good & friendly We had a voucher which was given to us as we previously booked but the roast wasn’t on yet, lucky we had this as I would have otherwise complained as the food was not worth the full cost

Tasty vegetarian dishes inspired by various cuisines. The things mentioned on Google by customers (arancini, Sunday roast, bao buns) were not on the menu.

I had booked a romantic lunch. But our experience went from bad to the ridiculous very quickly! We weren't ready to order just a couple of minutes after sitting, and so our orders weren't then taken for another 20 minutes. When we realised we'd been sitting there for over an hour, and nobody had even come to let us know why, my partner went to try to find someone to speak to. With still no one available he headed to the kitchen, where he was told that a chef had walked out so they weren't sure how long our meal would be. The waitress finally came to the table and offered her apologies claiming they had just completed a big rush, which simply wasn't true - a table that had arrived after us were already on their main dishes! Her manager came out afterwards and reassured us that our meal would be ten minutes and offered her apologies. Placated, we relaxed and waited. When our starters arrived, one of two of our starters was barely warm, so we called the waitress again. We were told we wouldn't be billed for our starter, and agreed to wait for our main course rather than wait again for our starters. Again we relaxed. Five minutes later, (what we later discovered was the manager), a man came near our table and just stood looking at us. My partner asked if he was the manager and he finally spoke. One would expect a listen to our experience, and to then make amends for the poor service. But it quickly clear that he had no intension of listening but accused us of being "unprofessional"!!! For entering the kitchen. He then implied that if we didn't leave he would call the police! We were horrified that he had taken such an aggressive stance with us! He completely ruined the good work that the waitresses had achieved in trying to resolve the problem. We walked out. What a shambles! We're still scratching our heads trying to figure out what on earth he was thinking! I've been coming to Food for Friends for many years. I will not be returning.

Nice food . Friendly waiter . Furniture in parts is dated and ripped , mucky . Not what would expect from a slightly premium place . And as always a place always loses a star from me if they put ‘optional’ service charge on the bill automatically. Let me decide the tip!!

I fell over in the street and thought I was going to pass out and they made me and my bloodied knee and my friend leave because ‘people were eating’. Kinda heartless tbh. Food for friends, but I guess no medical aid for injured passers by. Boo.

We got the tofu appetizer, four small plates, and Sri Lankan Curry. The food was very pretty, but kind of bland which was a bit disappointing. The tofu starter was great and our favorite of the dishes, the Sri Lankan Curry was not so great and bland. The aubergine small plate was quite nice

No atmosphere. Cold food with little tasty. Not worth the money. Soggy cauliflower wings. Bland pasta. Corn was okay. Standard burger. Wouldn’t recommend to a vegetarian, as they are better options elsewhere.

Fantastic place! Went in without a booking just on the off chance. Staff were fantastic. The menu is one of the most inventive I’ve ever seen. Four of us were dining and we went for the small plate option, we ordered just about (but not entirely) one of everything. Every mouthful was delicious. I will certainly be going back.

A bad night when we went, sadly. We ordered 5 or 6 small plates. Of these, three were quite badly undercooked. The harissa carrots were actively unpleasant to eat, so crunchy and tough. Cauliflower wings, similarly almost raw in the middle. A real labour to finish them. And the mushroom ‘bruschetta’ - really they should just call this mushrooms on toast. Mushrooms were super chewy. The green spread on the toast was fairly tasteless. All the dishes also lacked seasoning - tofu and aubergine both needed a lot of salt. All in all, given it’s not a super cheap spot, a disappointing night. Service was friendly but super slow even though the restaurant wasn’t busy. And lastly, minor pet peeve but very easily avoided - the bathroom has two fancy bottles of Aesop hand wash attached to the walls, but they’re clearly just old bottles that have been kept and filled with cheap soap. Nothing against cheap soap (or even the extremely rusty radiator that also draws in the bathroom) - but don’t hide it in a fancy bottle.

This was a delicious restaurant that my partner and I tried on a whim when we were visiting Brighton for the Solstice. I would say that the biggest indicator for me that I would probably enjoy the food is that I peeked at the table next to me, where someone had ordered a portobello burger. I don't particularly enjoy portobello burgers, but this one looked so good that I was somewhat wistful about not ordering it. This restaurant's menu stated something about the restaurant wanting the vegetable to stand on their own, and I think that worked really well for what I considered the standout dish, which was the carrot-and-squash soup. It was light, filling, and just sweet enough to trigger my taste buds without being too sweet, which is an issue I find with a lot of squash/apple/carrot soups. The other standout was actually the harissa aioli that came with the fries; it was subtly smoky, to be sure, but something else about it really grabbed me. The fries were good, don't get me wrong, but I would slather that aioli on anything (and we ended up scraping the rest of it out of the cup with our side bread). The warm beetroot salad was delicious as well. I thought that the prices were reasonable, but I do think if you are particularly price conscious visiting with someone else and sharing two or three small plates would make the pricing more palatable. We ended up getting our own bowls of soup and then sharing the fries and the salad, plus drinks for both of us (the drink pictured in this review was my partner's, and though I sipped it, I don't think that I can give a fair review of it here). Anyway, this food left us feeling full, but in a light way, and I thought that the light touch on the preparation did in fact let the stars of the show, the vegetables, stand out all the more.

Assessing as a carnivore and visiting with vegan family members. the food was very tasty and well presented. We were given our own snug little booth with a nice street view. The staff were welcoming and polite.

Jordan crafted the most amazing cocktails at the end of our meal and we had to pour our colleague out of the restaurant - 10/10 would recommend to a friend.

This used to be such a great restaurant but it is very obvious that Food for friend has changed either ownership, chefs or both. The Sunday roast of vegetarian wellington was so heavily spiced along with every other vegetable on the plate it was inedible. The clementine sponge was hard enough to break a tooth and the ginger and orange caramel and candied pecan parfait was completely devoid of any flavour. We will never return especially when there are so many Good Vegetarian Restaurants in the area.

Food was amazing. Service was a little slow, so took some time to order even a drink. Sad to see how tatty the chairs were - stained and the one I sat on needed a new cushion, they really need to invest some money here in cleaning and upkeep. Atmosphere always great. The only thing I would say is that I had booked and asked for a window seat, yet people who had arrived just beforehand had been sat there and this was a little disappointing (may relate to the service, as seemed only one person until around 1pm)

It's been a while since I last visited, but so glad we popped in for lunch. Easily the best Thai salad I've eaten - ever - anywhere! I wish I'd taken some photos of the food because it was beautifully presented and looked every bit as good as it tasted. Superb friendly and attentive service.

What a disappointment! A recommendation about this place took us there to celebrate a family birthday. From the moment we stepped in, we were greeted with the worst attitude from the host. Service was so awful we had to beg to be noticed throughout. Drinks took forever and then we some didn't arrive at all. Waited an hour for our first courses... Food was tasty, so can't fault that, but portions were so tiny and over priced. All in all it was an awful experience and we will not be going back or recommend this place to anyone. Shame, as it held a promise for us vegans , but didn't deliver 😔

Really disappointed !! The 3 waitresses we had come to the table were very friendly but the service was really quite slow. The venue was quite cold. The vegan burger was very dry, also the roll which was seemingly stale. The chips had too much salt on them. The cauliflower wings were very hard, they were deep fried and quite oily and tasteless. We did find it was quite expensive also for the amount of food bought to the table.

Great experience eating at Food for Friends. Lovely staff and the food was great. I enjoyed my started and dessert the most. The pineapple tart Tatin and the sticky toffee pudding is a must try!

Wow! Fantastic cosy lunch spot on a cold day, the tofu and carrot plates in particular were great! Lovely selection of cocktails, we had the blueberry ginger mojito which was unique and super flavourful. Special mention to our waitress Emily who went above and beyond! Las costillas de maíz dulce son un punto culminante, al igual que las zanahorias y el hummus. Almuerzo muy relajado y muy agradable pero bastante caro.

Really nice relaxed meal. As everything on the menu was vegetarian or Vegan we didn’t have to ask the usual questions ie: Is it cooked separately from the meat etc. All the food seemed very fresh & nicely prepped salad. Mushroom croquet & the Jalfrezi we would recommend. Staff friendly, accommodating & efficient.

The waiting staff were absolutely lovely, the ambience in our little cubby hole was fabulous, and there wasn't anything really wrong with the food, it just wasn't up to the same standards as it has been on previous occasions. The starters/small plates were delicious, but our large plates took a long time to come (waiter did apologise), and were a bit disappointing. Also, I had a Margarita cocktail that I couldn't drink as it had a strange aftertaste, so my friend finished it and I ordered a different cocktail (which was lovely but I did have to ask twice for it.) It was my birthday and the lovely waiter did bring me a plate of complimentary chocolate truffles at the end, so that was a lovely touch for which I am grateful.

This is a fabulous vegetarian restaurant, have been many times. Food and service are always exceptional with changing menu. Would definitely recommend.

Cosy restaurant with great food. Everything was well cooked and the plates were beautiful to look at. Great selection of wines by the glass. Our waiter was really attentive to our needs and made our time there great. Thank you! A great place for a great dîner.

Mediocre pasta dish , really slow service and very cold on the day we went . Overpriced and for me and uninspiring menu .

The foods were amazing. We all shared the small plates and everything was delicious. I highly recommend croquettes and the cauliflower.

I liked the variation of dishes to choose from and the staff were very helpful and friendly. However, the ambiance was bit lacking. Some of the dishes were really good whilst others were a bit disappointing. Overall, for the price there's lots of other restaurants in Brighton I would rather go to.

Burgers were the worst, dry and hard and tasteless, two other freinds who had them also felt the same. do not waste your money.

Food was so tasty and service was fab, can’t wait to go back.
