Burgers were the worst, dry and hard and tasteless, two other freinds who had them also felt the same. do not waste your money.

It’s back on form, everything was great. I particularly liked the sweetcorn ribs and my Jalfrezi. My wife loved the aubergine parmigiana too.

Excellent dining experience for vegans. Perfect for a special occasion. We had the crispy tofu starter which really set the standard for the night. It was delicious. We shared 3 small plates and a side - all of which were like going on flavour adventures. Really high quality food. Then!!! Lovely Stephanie, our waitress for the night, gently encouraged us to take a look at the dessert menu, and having never seen so many vegan options before we had to dive in! I ate so many things I’d never tried before and absolutely loved it. 10/10.

I had an amazing brunch with my bestie! Omg. Delicious and super original recipes and the service was super kind and the place super cozy. We had the pankakes and the Tōgarashi scrambled eggs. Delicious. Can’t wait to try the rest of their fantastic menu.

I absolutely loved my meal here. Our waiter was charming and friendly. I had the pumpkin linguine which was excellent (if a little smaller than I might have hoped for). And the chocolate truffles were absolute perfection - so good I had to just close my eyes and let every bite dissolve in chocolatey heaven in my mouth.

Relaxing atmosphere, peaceful and beautifully presented tasty food. . Our waitress, Samantha, was perfect. I really loved my truffles sooo chocolatey and my husband his vegetarian cheese cake. Hmm we just couldn't get enough of the crispy potatoes. Great for us being a vegan and vegetarian.

I recently visited a fantastic restaurant in Brighton, just a short walk from the pier. If you're looking for a place with plenty of vegan and vegetarian options, this spot is perfect! The variety on the menu was impressive, but I decided to try the Thai Salad, and it turned out to be one of the best Thai dishes I've had outside of Thailand! The salad was a delightful mix of textures and flavors. The spicy kick from the red chili balanced beautifully with the softness of tofu, while the vermicelli noodles and crunchy water chestnut added a perfect contrast. The sweet sauce tied everything together wonderfully, creating a flavor-packed dish that was both light and satisfying. If you're in Brighton and craving fresh, flavorful food, especially something vegan or vegetarian, this restaurant is an absolute gem!

We were at a table where my chair was centimetres away from another customer at a different table (albeit 90 degrees to my chair) but as they all spoke very loudly it felt quite intrusive and made it hard to hear my friend.

Sounded like quite toxic working environment.

My aubergine dish was only lukewarm although to be fair I didn’t send it back, but I think it must have barely seen the inside of an oven. We paid with gift vouchers and the server commented that they were old which I thought was a bit rude as there was no expiry. Place is looking a bit shabby now. Carpets worn and do with replacing.

Wonderful dining experience. Friendly staff and amazing food. Lovely atmosphere and busy pubs just over the road if you want to go on to something livelier. The Clementine sponge is a must have. The staff were very accommodating when I explained that I couldn’t eat really spicy food and gave suggestions from the menu. Would recommend and will definitely return.

Insane, went for dinner was busy but the service was attentive. Didn't get the name of our server, but the American server was out of this world, so passionate about the food, told us how the corn ribs were made, constantly topping up our wine. Could not have had a better evening. The sauce on the cauliflower wings is so addictive, need it on everything

We had a lovely dinner here as part of a trip to Brighton. Fabulous harissa carrots, yummy cauliflower wings, a potato and beetroot dish and a delicious linguine. Staff were great and we loved our dinner and our experience here.

I had the scrambled eggs with mushrooms on toast- different and delicious. The pancakes with banana and chocolate were the perfect sweet treat. Great service and beautiful presentation. Definitely a great spot for breakfast!

I usually love this restaurant & have been coming here for years. However, my latest visit was not a 5* experience sadly. The restaurant was very empty on a weekday lunchtime, yet several of the small plates were unavailable. We were told (curtly?) that another had run out in the time we'd been taking to decide our choices! Food was ok & we certainly weren't rushed. However, we had to find a staff member to ask for the dessert menu, again find someone to take our order, wander off again to ask for the bill & again to ask if they could take our payment. The table wasn't cleared properly between courses & it all seemed a bit second rate. I will definitely return as I like the location, food & ambience generally. I'm hoping this was an 'off' day for some reason but this was certainly not the FFF I've been loyal to for many years.

We got the tofu appetizer, four small plates, and Sri Lankan Curry. The food was very pretty, but kind of bland which was a bit disappointing. The tofu starter was great and our favorite of the dishes, the Sri Lankan Curry was not so great and bland. The aubergine small plate was quite nice

I like to post great restaurant reviews but Food for Friends was very average. Used to be our favourite restaurant when we first came to Brighton but had a disappointing meal a few years ago and it hasn’t improved. Small plates are expensive for what you get… eg the mango and avocado salad… all the slivers of mango and avocado would fit on one dessert spoon. The cauliflower wings were greasy and tasteless. The chips were so “light seasoned” as to be unnoticeable. But the Arancini was lovely and the breaded mushrooms tasty and moist. Maybe we were just unlucky with the dishes but I would have hoped for a more imaginative menu . There is such an amazing choice for vegetarians in Brighton, so do t think we will return for a while. The service was friendly and helpful ( with the food ) but it was 25 mins after arriving before we got our first drink ( table was not ready) and we were not asked if we wanted another drink. It’s a lovely restaurant - cozy without being cramped and nice decor.

Fantastic meal, superb service and beautiful surroundings. The perfect way to share a family meal for an important birthday. Can't recommend enough. One of my all time favourite restaurants. Can't wait to come back again soon

We had a great meal at Food for Friends. The dishes were delicious - our favourite being the cauliflower. Service was excellent - friendly, helpful and attentive. We will recommend and be back.

Delicious vegan lunch, small plates, then knockout pineapple tart for pudding. Truly worth a visit.

I was running late and phoned the restaurant and explained that the parking was busy and I’d be ten minutes behind. We turn up at 7:15, when our booking was at 7, and was told the table wasn’t ready which confused us as our booking was at 7? We were unsure if they were looking at the right booking. We get told to take a seat and then advised that we “normally cancel bookings after 15 minutes” issued in a somewhat sarcastic manner. We explained that we had phoned the restaurant to notify we’d be 10 minutes late, it appeared that the manager was unaware of this, we were then shown to the table but we then decided that the managers attitude and rudeness was not sitting comfortably with us and decided to leave, on exiting we explained that we had decided to leave as we found that his manner and rudeness had spoilt the evening to which he responded that was fine and appeared to not be interested in our view at all or offer an apology. After walking out I thought I ought to mention this to a manager and went back in to discover that we had been dealing with the manager. I wouldn’t recommend visiting this establishment as the customer clearly doesn’t come first here nor does it’s needs.

I was sad to see this restaurant has really slipped. The food was just okay, we ordered almost everything on the small plates- none of the dishes were outstanding and none were bad. Felt like no one cared or were proud of what they were doing. We also ordered the beetroot curry which we've eaten before and which used to be a beautiful dish, presented well but the standard has fallen. The service was fine and the person serving us was warm and friendly. But they forgot that we were celebrating a milestone birthday for my mum. The tables are so close together that the service people keep bumping into you. Overall, it felt like a lot of money spent on not much.

While strolling down Brighton Lane, I came across a restaurant called food for friends , which caught my attention. Intrigued, I decided to step inside and explore the menu. The staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming. I ordered the Aranchini at eggplant parmigiana and I must say, the dish exceeded my expectations it was truly perfect. I really love it salute to the chef who made this dish it was perfect 👌 I am definitely planning to return and will be bringing my friends along to dine here. The ambiance was also very pleasant, making it a memorable experience.

Amazing vegan food here. Garlic bread, crispy tofu, burger and beet curry. Arrived early and Terry did everything he could to get us seated even though it was full. Great host and wonderful food.

Have been before and had better food. Tried something different which wasn’t amazing.

Staff were very helpful and accommodating. I was very pleased that the noise level was not too excessive (unlike on a previous visit). The wine was excellent, and good choices. The Thai salad was well made and looked attractive, but lacked flavour. It really did need some chillies and coriander; as it was, I could taste something a bit sweet in it, which I did not like at all. It is otherwise a good dish - but it needs 'tarting up'! The dessert, affogato, was very good.

Eight of us went to Food For Friends last night as a reunion of old friends from Sussex Uni. We knew FfF from the mid-1980s, when it was a canteen-style place with a innovative, good-value vegetarian food. Sadly, based on sampling 8 of the "small plates" (two being unavailable), the food must be summarised as bland. I'm not sure the chef actually tasted their food, as - apart from the aubergine and the tufu dishes - it was largely tasteless. The so-called mixed salad was a prime example: a mound of rocket leaves and pomegranate seeds doused in olive oil and (apparently lemon juice). It just tasted of oil with absolutely no seasoning. We ordered some vinegar, salt and pepper to ameliorate it. It was nice to reminisce there, but we would not revisit. One of the party of eight did actually enjoy the food, and so I will give a star for that, as well as for the memories of a once-great restaurant now we'll past its prime.

Lovely food and service. We tried a number of wines before settling on the Orange, which was delicious as well as being natural. Our server was incredibly friendly and helpful. Really nice ambience and a perfect spot.

The cozy atmosphere of this place is so inviting, like stepping into a friend's welcoming dining room. I am already looking forward to coming back to sample more of their dishes. The tofu appetizer was a pleasant surprise, light and invigorating. The Thai noodles were flavorful, although I was caught off guard by the fact that they were served cold, except for the more tofu. The service had a laid-back vibe, a bit on the slower side, which actually fit well with the relaxed holiday atmosphere of the place. The prices for drinks were reasonable.

I believe it’s part of a family of restaurants with a couple of others in Brighton. Similar food, tasty, quickly served etc. The ambience of FFF is perhaps less nice than the other two, but still good and we had a nice ‘booth’ type seat. Service was good. Sadly their coffee machine was broken, not ideal for a restaurant as at least one person in a large party would like one. Would recommend.

Delicious as always. Every time we come down from London Food for Friends is on our list of places to eat. Never disappoints. Staff were lovely, Margaritas were great. All good!

Surprising find whilst walking through the Lanes, we popped in for a quick bite and ended up spending a good piece of our afternoon people watching and enjoying the vegetarian eats. The harissa carrots are a must-try in the small dishes, and the larger dishes are just that: substantial meals that satisfy.

It was my first visit to Food for Friends since before the Covid pandemic. I had special memories of their creativity with cauliflower. They did not disappoint!

Nice lunch spot! Atmospheric and delicious food. We had a mushroom pasta and a veggie burger, accompanied by a delicious gkas white wine. Upon arrival you will immediately be served a bottle of (tap) water. Friendly service!

Excellent food, service and restaurant. I would say this was less a meal out and more of an eating experience. Enjoyed every minute and not only definitely going back but also would recommend highly to others.

My girlfriend and me had a lively evening, we was served by Nate who had a really cool suit on. The service was very good and we was seated very quickly, the atmosphere was so nice with grata lighting and beautiful pictures on the walls. The food was so good, and definitely recommend it to people. We will definitely come back.

For the money, it was very average. The food was acceptable, but nothing special.  my burger was tasty and the chips were excellent. My friend’s butternut squash was tasty but with only a few chickpeas adorning it.

I've been to this restaurant every time I have visited Brighton and it is fantastic! Staff are really friendly, very nice atmosphere and the vegan food is delicious!! 100% recommend!

Hi - we have always really enjoyed Food for Friends when we have visited Brighton in the past and have been there 6 times or more over the years. This time however we were disappointed with our experience and we found the menu was not as appetising or as high quality as it used to be... the small plate selection was limited, the garlic bread was hardly toasted at all and the hasselback butternut squash was steamed rather then roasted, so no tasty caramelisation. The staff kindly refunded the cost of the salad which was so drenched in dressing/oil that we couldn't eat it. Sadly I don't know if I will visit on my next trip to Brighton as prices did not reflect the quality of the food. With some tweaks to the menu and better small plate options I feel it could return to the standard we once enjoyed.

After almost a decade of visiting food for friends we don’t see ourselves returning any time soon. To begin with, the booth area we were sitting in was dusty, there were crumbs on the seat, and a large moth landed on one of our party. Our server was very friendly, but the fine dinning experience of past years was truly gone. Most disappointing was the food which is so sad. The mushroom pasta was basic and could have been easily replicated at home. The hassleback squash was flavourless. Those mains together with the harrissa cauliflower lacked an appreciation of protein in their composition (lack of seeds, nuts, beans etc). It felt like costs have been cut at every opportunity, which was immensely disappointing given the high cost of each item on the bill. We really hope that fff will return to its former glory.

Revisited Food for Friends yesterday after a few years. Always was our place to eat in Brighton. What a disappointment! Service indifferent. Food uninteresting, unappealing when served and quality of food underwhelming. Such a shame, used to be something special.

Gorgeous Vegan food, the best I have eaten out! We had a lovely meal.

I'm not a vegetarian or Vegan but my wife is so this was a anniversary treat for her, however when food is this tasty who needs meat. I couldn't believe the flavours I got from a mushroom and pesto pasta dish. Every mouthful was a delight.

Great food and wine as usual. Two of the main course items weren’t available which just happened to be our first and second choices; it would have been nice to have been told at the outset rather than wait until we tried to order them. But the dishes we ended up with were delicious anyway.

What a shame, I had come here 20 years ago, and had had a wonderful memory of the best and oldest vegetarian restaurant in Brighton. I had raved about the restaurant to my vegetarian Italian visitors, and had high expectations. Unfortunately the waiters attitude was unfriendly, surly, impatient, and they seemed as though they were put out by our presence, and couldn’t wait to close shop. I’m afraid after paying a huge bill with 17% service added without any choice for such disappointing treatment, I will definitely not be back.

A disappointing experience. They forgot about our starters and brought main meal. The starters, which were a meal in them selves and not cheap, sat getting cold while we ate the main meal still hot. Unfortunately the food did not taste good either, all with a smothering smokey taste, as though doused in liquid smoke. The celeriac dish had a quarter of a completely raw cabbage with charred edges with it, so not edible. An unpleasant expensive occasion.

Always love your food! Would be great to see an updated summer menu though as it hasn’t changed for some time! Thank you.

We have been coming to FFFs for over 10years (occasionally), travelling from Kent, as back then it was the best place for vegetarian eating with choices. We tried the Botanique restaurant a while back too. But this is the first time we have been disappointed - both with the food and service. We still had choices, even with the addition of 2 of us now being coeliac/vegetarian but not so exciting & less tasty. The restaurant was quiet (Saturday lunch time), and service very average/poor with some dishes arriving late/forgotten. Botanique seriously lacked ambience, service was average & food less interesting to eat, compared to its visual appeal. Sadly, we have better choices & eating experiences when travelling to London and so will be some time before we think about coming back.

We have been to food for friends before and had a great expirience. Unfortunately this time was different. We didn't feel very welcome to start with. When they brought our starters they had the a wrong dish, they did change it and it didn't take very long. One of the starters was delicious, the other wasn't so much so. When it came to mains we again got sthe wrong dish and it took 3 times to get the right dish... At the end we got the bill with the wrong items in it, by which time we didn't really feel like asking for a change. I hate to be negative but it truly wasn't a great experience

The food was good but on the day we went it was quite noisy even though it was suggested by the waitress that sitting indoors would be calm and peaceful!

waiter was lovely and very pleasant (male with long hair tied back if able to find and thank him for his lovely service!), boyfriend absolutely loved all the food, i was particularly fond of the tofu. would highly recommend!

Absolutely delightful experience. The food was beyond outstanding, such amazing flavours and attention to detail with the presentation also beautiful. There is nothing myself or my girlfriends could fault! I cannot wait to come back.

We have dined here in the past and the food and service have been great, unfortunately we dined there recently and was disappointed, the waiter seemed less than enthusiastic and our dishes were not up to standard, I ordered a pasta meal, my pasta was verging on uncooked and my partners meal that included a braised cabbage looked great on the plate and was charred but inedible because it was raw, however when we were eventually asked how our meal was, we explained our concerns and they were kind enough to knock off a price of a meal from our bill..we felt embarrassed for them..we were left wandering if there has been a change in management and they have hired a new chef 🤔..come on food for friends you can do better than this.

A big thank you to the lovely waiter who was able to quickly run through the dishes that contained coconut as my daughter is very allergic to it. He gave us confidence to trust the food she was eating was safe for her which meant we all had a lovely relaxed meal in one of my favourite restaurants. Thank you. As always the food was superb . Thank you team!!

Slightly confusing menu - not entirely clear if sides are needed or not. Very good tasty vegetarian fare but surprisingly lacking in protein. Uninspiring desert menu.

This was our first visit, despite walking passed many times, when visiting Brighton. The staff were very accommodating. We had initially booked for later in the evening. But the weather was horrid, so we called and they bought the table forward an hour and half for us. There was som e nice background music playing on entering, which was the right tempo and volume. The menu pleasantly surprised us, and we thouroughly enjoyed it. We had starters, main and shared a dessert. Our waitress as lovely, very helpful and jolly with it. Will def go again.

Lovely to be able to revisit a proper vegetarian restaurant that was so ahead of its time when I first visited nearly 40 years ago! So many places fall by the wayside that it was really good to see FfF still there and far more up market than it used to be in the 80s!

My brother and I shared a tasty dinner at Food for Friends yesterday. Everything we had was a taste sensation and immaculately presented. There’s some great hearty dishes available as well as more al la carte style. The allergy labelling was excellent with the majority of the menu being gluten free as standard - bonus! The staff were all super friendly, patient (as we were late) and it was a relaxing atmosphere. We were the last people to leave, but didn’t feel rushed at all. This is my second time to Food for Friend, and I’ll certainly be returning. Thank you! 🤩

Great food although the House Burger has changed and was not as good as it used to be, in my opinion. Pasta was delicious as always and the starters and desserts were amazing. Fantastic service and a very nice atmosphere. One thing that bugs me every time I come here is that they include a "service charge" (or tip) on the bill when they bring it. This makes it feel like a mandatory tip... I disagree with this way of "tipping" as surely it should be at the customers discretion, and not just added on the bill when the customer receives it. On this occasion, I asked for it to be removed from the bill as if I want to tip the staff, I will do this of my own accord and not because it is automaticly put on my bill (at 12.5%). I do wonder whether the staff receive the full tip if paid as part of the bill, or whether the owners take a cut. Anyway, other than this, a nice evening.

It was my daughter's birthday and we had a wonderful vegan roast. The staff were lovely and I was sorry I was too full to have dessert! However Em was presented with a birthday treat, a clementine sponge with chocolate sauce which we shared. Thank you for a memorable lunch!

My wife and I are carnivores, but the food in this place is great. We have been going there for years although due to my own ill health not eaten out for a long while. In fact, my health has affected my taste buds and I'm struggling to find foods that I like enough to eat more than a mouthful. So when the butternut squash and carrot soup arrived, the waiter put the plate in front of me and my nose picked up an aroma immediately, I was more than a little excited. Sure enough it tasted it wonderful as it smelt. I could have licked the bowl clean if I wasn't in public view haha! I had the wild mushrooms and pasta for a main course. Maybe I am a little bias because I do like mushrooms but that was so delicious. We shared a side portion of their wonderfully cooked chips. Cooked to perfection! My wife had the same soup, and then a butternut squash, served in a sweet peppers chicken pea and tomato sauce. I tried one mouthful. Her's was delicious too. We also had deserts. My wife doesn't like ginger but the waiter was extremely helpful to get right a sponge that would normally have been served with a ginger sauce! It was a busy Friday lunchtime when we ate. The staff worked hard but obviously service wasn't instant. We weren't in a rush. We were talking with the staff they were smiling, laughing, being helpful. We felt valued customers. Go to MacDonalds if you want instant service. Go here if you want great food with a smile!

Really disappointed on this occasion. It was spexially booked for a birthday and 4 of us attended. It was pretty quiet when we arrived and the server was less than enthusiastic. Polite but he seemed to have his mind elsewhere. We ordered a range of food althought the menu seemed 'sparce' without a lot of choice apart from the drinks menu which seemed jam packed! We asked for Gluten Free bread which they said they didn't have which was also a bit of a let down. The food was not very tastey and franlly was not up to the same standard as previous visits. They did 'comp' one of our dishes without a quibble which seemd as though theu weren't surprised. Not mich other feedback was asked for either or how they could hsve improved. Disappointing I am sorry to say.

Food was ok, service wasn’t great and the atmosphere was strange. We were the only people in the section we were sat in. Quite cut off from the rest of the diners so felt like we weren’t invited to the party. The menu wasn’t as exciting as previously and I expect better napkins in a restaurant. Doubt I’ll visit again.

Given 5 stars for everything as it was a wonderful two course vegan meal We enjoyed every mouthful. Expensive but worth it.

The harissa carrots and the squash are unreal. Nice staff too.
