My wife recently booked me a surprise birthday dinner, overnight stay and breakfast. It was a complete surprise to me and a very nice one too. All the staff were so lovely, always had a smile and so helpful. The room was beautiful, clean and wonderfully decorated. It was so nice to stay in as it had a bath next to the bed and a log burner that they lite for us. So cozy. We had a bottle of sparkling wine and had a very relaxing evening before Dinner, which was first class and cooked perfectly, as was the breakfast next morning. We’ll definitely be booking another night stay with dinner and breakfast. I highly recommend the five bells to everyone so check them out asap.

Food was spectacular (squid, confit croquette and chicken, house burger, crumble etc). Wine and beer very good with great selection. Beautiful thin wine glasses Breakfast was a personalised hamper to our room. Again fabulous muffins, croissants, cereal, juices, porridge etc We stayed in Fuggle room. Well laid out, great bath and very spacious. Lovely and clean, lovely fudge nibbles and a little glass of port. Would highly recommend Thank you Iryna

Visited on Wednesday evening, relatively quiet, 6 or 7 other tables. Service poor. Food lovely and hot. Service slow, drinks orders not delivered, incorrect when chased up. 3 people asked for sauce, one pot arrived. Dessert menus didn’t arrive when requested. Bill incorrect when it came. The waiter that served us has an attention span of a gnat and just forgot everything. Service charge not paid and no apology from anyone for the poor service we’d had.

We booked Sunday lunch and were really disappointed. There was no Sunday lunch and only a BBQ, which was overpriced and poor quality. The location is beautiful, but unfortunately, the service and food didn't live up to expectations. A pub that has invested in the look and feel but forgotten that repeat business is food and service.

We went because their website said that there was a ‘lunchtime locals’ menu which included fish and chips. When we asked for the menu we were told that only the main menu was available and also that pizza bases had run out. It proved to be an expensive lunch. However, we enjoyed our food and gluten free battered fish was a bonus.

Very quirky place first impressions were very positive Room was very ‘granny attic’ style Staff very friendly Bar comfortable and relaxing So overall good first impression Meal was quite average to be honest nothing to give any positive comments about nothing negative Biggest issue I have that needs improvement is the room for the price surely a bed that has a modern solid base and not Victorian springs is not too much to ask. Worst nights sleep I’ve had in years The room was above the kitchen and outside smoking area so cigarette smells and kitchen extract smells were rather strong We didn’t get breakfast as it didn’t start till 9 which again I find a bit weird in this day and age we did get a basket of food left outside the night before though

Without doubt the best pub accommodation I have experienced. My husband spent 7 weeks travelling in 2023 and said the Five Bells was the best place he stayed in the UK or Europe, so I sought it out when the opportunity arose. The room was beautifully appointed with some wonderful additional touches such as a complimentary decanter of Port and a log fire. The service from everyone at the inn and the restaurant was exceptional including carrying our large cases up to the first floor and lighting the fire in our room so it was warm when we returned after dinner. The first meal we were forgotten about for our main for a very long time and the second night's meal asked preference to chunky chips or skinny fries, the wrong ones came, I mentioned straight away and the young lad just said oh sorry and no mention of changing it. We held a wedding reception here and decided to take over the whole pub for the day. We had 50 people for a sitdown meal and another 15 to 20 in the evening. The feedback from our guests was unbelievable. They all commentated the atmosphere in the five bills was fantastic, as was the food and the staff and service were on many occasions described as unbelievable. Many of the guests commented that if they had a wedding they would’ve been delighted to have the five bells for the reception as they described it as one of the best weddings they had ever attended, bearing in mind, a lot of the guests like us were in the late 50s and 60s that was a significant tribute to the hard work of all the staff. We also stayed the night as did a few guests, and we were delighted with the rooms, the breakfast and again the helpfulness of the staff. The canapés were fabulous the wine flowing freely . The wedding lunch was described as as good a meal as found at good restaurants. Afterwards we had dancing and further pizzas and the staff were unbelievable. I recommend this place strongly

We visited with our elderly parents for Sunday lunch, having waited a while to find a Sunday that wasn't already fully booked. Because of this and the great food we have had beforehand, we had high expectations. The choice was limited to 2 types of...

The harissa king prawns were delicious. I also had the fish and chips which was very fresh and tasty. The pizza was great and the lemon pavlova huge! However, despite having booked when we arrived it was as if they weren’t expecting us and had...

Previously sacked twice from the Hospitality Sector as a young adult, I appreciate how challenging the job is. Indeed I’d respectfully suggest that there are more bad servers these days, than there are good. Anyway we’ve visited the Five Bells at irregular intervals for more...

Lovely food, great atmosphere, staff were all really nice. Great for a family meal, was made to feel welcome. Beautiful interior and the outside garden was lovely to enjoy a drink in after our meal. Would definitely recommend

Not often you go to a restaurant and there is not pork, lamb, duck on the menu. There was braised beef or chicken , steak was £34 which is expensive. I found the menu was very limited and therefore choosing my meal difficult. Food was...

The very best fish and chips either of us had ever had. Succulent fish, wonderful batter and chips crispy crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Lovely staff and surroundings to boot. Fab!

Service was friendly and pretty quick which is great. The food was yummy, although in comparison to previous visits the menu wasn't as 'wow'. But like i say, our meals were still tasty and thoroughly enjoyed. We shared bread and oil to start with olives...

Turkey that resembles gandi's flip flop, parsnips that had been found in the crematorium and roast potatoes that were as dry as a dry thing in dry town having a dry competition. Otherwise serving staff good end of!

First time here. They serve a decent pint and range of beers and all the staff were very friendly and helpful. Had a homemade Steak & Ale pie which was very good. Karaoke was on so I went to the other end of the pub but the locals seemed to be having a good time.
