Tickled Trout in Ashford

Booked a table at The Tickled Trout to treat a friend to lunch. She had recommended as she dines there with friends and family regularly. We both opted for the chicken shish kebab which was accompanied by chips, salad and pitta. It was very tasty. Service was very good too. Its a beautiful pub inside and the pub garden is adjacent to the river. Will definitely visit again. All the tables were reserved so booking is a must if you are dining.

Popped in on a Sunday on the off chance of a table. They had a spot that was available but only for 1.5 hours which was fine with us. We were served quickly but not rushed. Food was good and well presented. I can see why it is always busy when we drive past. I would come back again. Next time I would go with the great looking Sunday roast.

Disappointing visit to the pub this afternoon. Googled it before our 40 minute drive there, and was expecting food and the bar to be opened till 9pm. Arrived @ 5.45 ordered two drinks, asked for the food menu, but told the kitchen was closed! Then halfway through our drink, told it was last orders now, and that if we wanted another drink we should order it soon..... I questioned "what was there official closing time?" And told that it was closing as not busy?!? There was at least ten people in there, surely information like this should be on their website, rather than customers travelling there to be disappointed. Also another couple came in and were served drinks and not told about the imminent closing. Not a place I will be visiting again, and I would suggest they update their website with correct information on what actually is available and with correct opening and closing times. Any couple told us about another local pub "The flying horse" where we enjoyed a lovely drink, wonderful atmosphere and still open when we left!!!

Unexpected visit on a Monday. Hadn't book a table, were willing to accommodate. Fish was suberb. Guinness was perfect. Service was good (poor girl was on her own). Good view of the Great Stour, too.

Calm and relaxed atmosphere with a nice fire burning. People minding their own business with no one being loud. There is a good selection of drinks and snacks. The service was very good but less stars as the food wasn't brilliant. My wife and I had a toasted ciabatta each, and they were supposed to be toasted. They were not at all. I had the fish finger ciabatta, which was supposed to come with (as the menu states) chunky tartare sauce. It was more like a thin spreading and definitely not chunky, i couldnt taste any in it either. The only reason i knew it was in there was because i looked. I really like this pub, especially in the summer, but this time round the food let it down. I will be back and I hope they improve.

Lovely homely atmosphere as soon as we entered the pub. We were welcomed with a warm greeting by the manager and all staff who served us were friendly! We enjoyed sharing the halloumi fries for a starter and our mains were the The Hot Bird pizza & the lemon chicken linguine, both were delicious 😋

Staff (and patrons) are lovely and polite and friendly, and is a lovely spot for sitting out on a nice day. My only complaint was that the green Thai curry looked fantastic but was bland. Green Thai curry is the spiciest of the Thai curries, but this one couldn't be described as spicy at all. Couldn't detect lemongrass, ginger, galangal, chilli, kaffir lime leaves or any of the usual flavour hits. Plus it was rather too oily and thick. I will come back and try other dishes though, as I get the impression that people here really care, so maybe the GTC was just not to my taste.

Quiet even when full mid-afternoon on a spring Sunday. We'd walked up from Canterbury & had arrived too late (3pm) for the café so waddled along to the Tickled Trout (or Fondled Fish as we knew it in my teens) to see what, if anything, they could do for us. Even at that point they were very busy but found a corner & produced a pair of lovely roasts. Service was efficient & friendly but never pushy. Main course & pud both lovely (weird interpretation of banoffee for me, very good, recommended.) We probably eat there once per year, usually on a Sunday, & it's consistently good.

Lovely pub, lovely food. Puddings pricy at £9 each so didn't have any however still got charged for four expresso & Two lattes we didn't have. Thought my wife had checked the bill so just paid it. Oh well lesson learned. So beware at Tickled Trout Wye, double check your bill

We had great expectations from the Tickled Trout. Lots of friends had spoken highly about it and we were really looking forward to our Sunday Roast. We decided to go for a Nut Roast and told the waitress that we were vegan. Of course we knew that there were some sides dishes that had milk, cheese or butter, but we thought, as we are in a pub that proud itslef for freshly made food, surely the Chef would be able to prepare some vegetable sides from scratch or give us more of the same stuff (as more potatos, broccoli, etc.. )! Instead, could have not been more wrong! Our £19 Sunday Roast plate came almost empty, with only the following: - The roast (which was actually good) - one single floret of Broccoli (one!) - 4 miniscule carrots - 6 green beens - 2 half potatos and one super small It was absolutely pitiful and I can't believe the Chef and any other member of the kitchen staff thought that it was an acceptable amount of food to serve to paying custumers. We felt second class and it was clear that no one couldn't be bothered to make something else. There was no love, no attention in that plate of food. No one came to ask how the food was. We left hungry and it ruined our Sunday!

Amazing food. Good prices, amazing service. Will definitely be back when in the area. Fisherman's pie was absolutely amazing, The steak had some serious flavour, obviously finger licking. Steak Guinness pie, pizzas , starters everything so tasty and good portions as well. Lovely decor and even better garden by the river. Highly recommended!

Fantastic pub, fantastic service! What a lovely spot. We loved sitting inside by the cosy fire place and hope to come back in summer to relax in the sunshine by the river. Absolutely lovely!

Excellent lunch at The Tickled Trout today. Couldn't fault anything. And that was, without a doubt, the best fish pie I have ever eaten. Absolutely delicious!

Had a family meal on Friday evening with our children. What a truly great pub and dining experience. Amazing and inventive menu, beautifully prepared. Great service - we’ll definitely be back when we’re in the area again!

I can’t believe all the negative reviews on here. The prices in all restaurants and pubs have gone up due to the increases in food in general, electric etc! This pub is stunning. From the outside it’s a beautiful country pub with idilic setting over the river. Inside it was warm and cosy a decorated beautifully with lots of fairy lights. They were just introducing their Christmas decorations which were very tasteful. The menu is huge, a great choice for everyone including small plates, starters, pub classic mains, sandwiches and ciabatta’s, burgers and pizza! What more could you possibly want. I had the homemade pork and black pudding scotch egg and the steak and Guinness pie. My friend had the soup and the chicken supreme. I wish I had taken photos but didn’t, the food was superb and so worth the money. The portion sizes were huge. Couldn’t fault the service or staff. Honestly this place is really lovely. I honestly think people just expect so much nowadays! Go here and see for yourself. I’d definitely recommend and go back.

Good catch up with a friend over dinner at The Tickled Trout. We had main courses and desserts and felt very full afterwards. Delicious fish pie deserves a special mention! Lovely twinkly lights made it feel special and festive. We did visit in the summer a few years ago when, of course, the riverside location makes it special. Will definitely return.

Food was nice but no bananas so no banoffee pie, which was disappointing. Pub itself inviting and comfortable. Staff friendly. However, extremely shocked that on a Thursday evening it shuts so early - staff should warn new comers who book about this. It does state on website it closes every night at 9pm! Not my idea of pub hours especially as I had met up with people I hadn’t seen for years and we were asked to leave at 9.20 pm and felt quite rushed throughout the meal. Not sure how pubs will stay open longer term with this attitude , even restaurants have better opening hours and the point of pubs was always about convening with others after work and relaxing etc - not hurried and shut before grown-up bedtimes. So, I wouldn’t go again!!

Absolutely stunning roast dinner here. Best I’ve ever had. Great service too. Had the chicken which was a good sized moist tender breast. Amazing stuffing and Roasties. Perfect veg including cauliflower cheeses and swede mash! Will be returning to try the beef soon.

Three of us are lunch here last week. Two ordered the fish pie which was a great choice. Wonderful flavour and lovely, unusual, presentation. Chef came out to us to explain how he prepared the dish. Good man. My steak and ale pie was a proper pie, not a silly dish with a separate crush! Lovely pie. Good service from friendly staff. Nowhere is cheap to eat nowadays but this meal was good value for great meals. Happy 50'th Tom.

Had the most delicious Fisherman's Pie! Best I've ever had. The chef came and spoke to us as I had enquired about the sauce. Highly recommend. My husband had steak and ale pie which he loved

I sit between 3-4 stars because it is a nice little pub, and I did enjoy myself but, the one thing that got me down is the service was a bit slow and our drinks had been sat on the side a while before we got them and then we didn't quite get what we ordered for starters, and then we got asked if we were done with that and the main came straight out so idk if it was just very quick service or under a heat lamp. The food was incredible and very fresh and homecooked! I can't fault that, maybe we just came at the end of a busy Sunday, but would love to try it again one night! Side note - your online menu isn't matching the one in the restaurant! So would be great if that was updated, as the thing I originally wanted, wasn't on the menu - thanks 👍

Lovely place to get some food, kids meal although was more than some places all looked fresh and nicely cooked. Cod special was delicious and the apple crumble with the home made ice cream was delicious. In the summer the beer garden would be lovely. The lights hanging from the ceiling are a nice feature. It feels like a cosy pub and the server was very polite and helpful and the food came out in good timing and was very tasty. If I was local this would be a go to treat dinner out!

I bought a bowl of chips at this pub. It's a nice setting by the river, but I was rather surprised by the size of the bowl. Considering I paid £4 for the chips I thought the bowl would be a lot bigger than it was. I felt as though I had been ripped off by paying this price. You often pay around this amount but in other places you get a lot more. If you're buying food here then perhaps don't bother with the chips as you won't get very many for what you pay!

If it weren’t for the location this pub wouldn’t any many customers. They charged me £17.60 for normal nachos when the menu said £16 (so overpriced). Bartender didn’t show me the card machine either. I assume this is for “service” which involved a young girl putting the plate down in front of me and telling me to go get my own cutlery. My mates £16 egg and chips looked revolting. Such a joke. I live near here and it’s never been good for food but “reasonable” enough. Gone downhill but still busy when the suns out. Won’t be for much longer though and then what

Three of us had a Excellent Roast Beef Lunch there yesterday! The Weather was Beautiful so we chose to sit outside in the lovely garden! The Meals are more expensive than most Pubs but well worth it! So tasty & Beautifully presented! We always personally rate our Pub Roasts & this was a definite 10/10 Loved it!

We booked a family birthday dinner for 10 of us, the food wasnt very good, steak was tough, ham, egg and chips was like a transport cafe, ham was very tough, service wasnt good and when we gave the waitress a tip, she snatched it from me and said we should have closed half an hour ago, very abrupt and rude, it ruined my sons birthday!! very over priced for what we had, and we spent nearly £400, We definitely wont be returning!!

Was not planning a trip to The Tickled Trout jumped off the train early at Wye just to have a drink. Lovely pub lovely gardens with a nice stream and also had a really lovely tasty meal. The staff couldn’t do enough for you had a lovely intro to the restaurant and menus I had the steak my wife had the chicken kebab followed by jam rolly polly which was all really well cooked and tasted fantastic. We even missed the train home (on purpose) and spent another hour in the pub relaxing and having one last drink. Will be back, and would deffo recommend the pub to others.

A lovely pub and restaurant set on the banks of the river. The restaurant seemed quite spacious split over several areas. Outside is a brilliant beer garden overlooking the river and (just about) the railway station. They hold events here and it seems the perfect space to do so. Staff were friendly and we weren't waiting long.

We went for a family meal, just happened to be an extremely hot day. There was a sign in the pub asking customers to be mindful of the heat, I just hope people were understanding. We were given the wrong menus which was a pain because everyone had decided what they wanted. Unfortunately some bits weren't available. For a pub that was extremely busy, it seems extremely well run. Pub is clean and tidy and the food was lovely.

Always brilliant service with a delicious menu. No idea what happened with their pizza menu, but they're suddenly got a huge upgrade. AMAZING range. The beer garden is incredible. Highly recommended for anyone passing through.

Food not to bad loaded fries tiny and overpriced, we got overcharged £12 for loaded fries and a one scoop Icecream, wouldn’t of minded but the Icecream was like more of a mousse when telling the waitress she told me to go back to the bar where the que was nearly out the door. Only good thing is the pub garden and river where the children can play

Popular. Pub is fine. Beer was fine. The river is a wonderful feature, of course. Bit of a wait for food, but that's okay for freshly cooked. Bit pricey, but they've got to pay for the refurbishment somehow!

This is a proper summer pub with one of the best gardens in the area. The river is hours of entertainment for the children and the beers are well kept so you can enjoy a lovely pint. Food isn't the best but it is solid pub grub.
