Really enjoyed our overnight stay, extremely friendly staff who allowed us to check in early before our trip to Chapel Down. Quirky bedroom and bathroom in keeping with the nature of the building, but with modern stylish decor. The food in the restaurant was nice, reasonably expensive, but good quality and generous portions. Tenterden is a very attractive place to visit.

Lovely place to stay, rooms are spacious and had a very large, comfortable bed. Lots of authentic charm about the building. Our room could have done with a slight update in some places and the crunching toilet can be disruptive, if you're not used to one but overall very nice room Staff were lovely and very helpful, took the time to make sure we were happy. The pub itself is excellent and again, seems to feel like your back in olden times. Fully recommend.

We stayed on a Monday night as we were visiting family We had last stayed in August 2020 and the room we stayed in was lovely and beautifully clean This time we stayed in a different room , it was large and spacious but didn’t enjoy it as much as the previous room. The bathroom was very small and the toilet and shower was very noisy every time it was used The chap who showed us to our room mentioned that he would bring us menus to allow us to see what was available for dinner but also told us that they had no chef at that time . When he came back with the menus I told him the the welcome pack In our room did in fact have menus he said that he never knew whether housekeeping left them or not which was strange I understand the building is very old We love the area and would stay again but ask to be in the room we stayed in previously

We had a lovely 2 night stay here this week. Duane and his team could not have been more helpful and friendly, our room was cleaned daily and new towels provided which was nice, all the complimentary drinks tray was replenished including mineral water which was a nice touch. The hotel its self is full of character wobbly floors and ceilings all adding to the charm of this old coaching inn. Our bedroom overlooked the beautiful church and graveyard which was beautiful - would highly recommend!!! Thank you!

Unfortunately we experienced indifferent staff (they bought us our bill, then left us for quite a while as they chatted and ate (possibly their own lunch)) so we had to get up and ask them if we could pay. The food was very poor - lukewarm jacket potatoes, instead of hot ones - with some very suspect dirty-looking cheese on one. A sandwich was served with hard, dry bread. Definitely won't be going back there. I guess the fact that it was empty when we got there should have been a warning sign ...

Went for lunch yesterday. Appearance of restaurant was nice. Waitress seemed polite and friendly. Bad a jacket potato with beans. Very disappointed. Jacket potato quite small. Beans warm. Cheese on the side had green bits whether it was something else or hopefully not mould. Pushed to side. Asked for bill. When we were ready to pay, took a while to get waitresses attention. Was chatting to other staff nember in bar and eating. We won't be rushing back.

A spontaneous Sunday afternoon dinner - well what can I say… from start to finish it was wonderful. I have been told by others I make a mean roast but after not wanting to cook after a long day we came across this gem! The woolly seem to have stepped up their game, the roast was wonderful, the service - given there were 8 of us (including a baby and a large dog) was outstanding; nothing was too much! I will definitely be returning. If you haven’t eaten there recently it’s a must! Well done all and thank you.

Impeccable welcome, beautiful rooms. Delicious dishes. Beautiful environment and central location. We visit the city on foot, in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. A beautiful playground is located in a nearby park, and the KESR tourist train station is not far away. To discuss: nice choice of beers, well served but like elsewhere in England, confusing for a continental coming from a country renowned for its beers! But surprises are part of any trip and the staff of this establishment gave us good advice.

My partner and I dropped in for a quick meal after a long day visiting London, and were blown away. The food, service and attentive staff were fantastic - I ordered the market fish of the day which had been the most perfectly cooked tender fillets of Sea Bream; and my partner had ordered Pie of the Day which had been a curried lamb. Both dishes were impeccably presented, generously sized and promptly served hot! Fabulous additions to their summer menu. The staff were very friendly, atmosphere and ambience had felt very cosy in the dining room with background noise of family friendly chatter. In the bar area they were playing Thursday Trivia, so a lively atmosphere with all patrons and staff. Nourishing food, great staff and lovely location. Five stars.

I am back in the area again so thought I’d come to the Woolpack as the last visit was good. They have launched a new menu and it looks great, loads of bar nibbles which all looked really tempting. I had the Braised beef casserole and my mate had the pie, my casserole was superb, the beef literally fell apart and my mate said the pie was the best he’s had in a very long time. Met friends to celebrate their recent marriage. Checked the website for offers- Throwback Thursday 2 courses for £20 or 3 courses for £25. Arrived at the pub, leaflets advertising the offer on every table, great! Friendly waiting staff brought us our menus. We went for 3 courses due to the inviting offer. The food was really nice, we were having a great time. Until the bill arrived. No discount had been applied. I reminded the waiter that it was Throwback Thursday, he said he would go and check.Waiter returned- "Throwback Thursday is on a different menu, and isn't every week" We were not offered any alternative menus, the website states it is every Thursday, leaflets everywhere. We left the pub on a bit of a bum note as would have chosen different meal options had this been made clear.

After being dragged off the high street for "the best burgers ever" I can safely say that they were quite simply the best burgers ever!Obviously we had to go back and try them again but to our shock they had finished (just for the garden opening after lockdown) so we went for the lamb and the curry....forget the burgers (although the one on the menu is a show stopper) this is a foodie paradise. Both dishes had been well thought out with textures, flavours and faultless execution. Enough attention to detail in the platting so not to be to pretentious but a reminder to use all your senses. What was noticeable was how enjoyable the work environment was and how all the staff got on, not only with there jobs but with each other ....keep that up!!The Chef obviously knew some of the diners and came out to personally check on there meals but made a point to engage with every table in a very charming and friendly manner (food must be good if the Chef is that comfortable in the dining room) The pub style tapas looks very interesting and we can't wait to give that a try on our next visit.

We stayed here for 2 nights I booked it for my mums 70th birthday the food and room was amazing and only ruined on our last night when we entered the pub at 945pm for one drink with family that had driven up from folkstone to see us. They only wanted 1 drink after our food. The lady served us our drinks and once we sat down came over to our table and said it was last orders did we want anything else? We said no thank you. By 10.10 she marched over and very rudely told our 3 family members they had to leave now as they were not guests! We were only half way through the drinks. She was extremely rude and to make matters worst there were still locals in with half pints in hands and full pints on the table! I understand from Thursday it closes at 10 but it clearly states on the website closes at 11pm my mum and I were extremely embarrassed especially after we have raved about our stay here. This one lady has completely ruined our experience! I understand the pressures of covid ect but why serve us then essentially kick us out 15 mins after saying last orders And being directly above the bar still hearing locals drinking an hour later. The lady clearly doesn't have any customer service skills. Very very upset and disappointed

Previously when we have eaten here we have used the bar area, but this time we used the nice eating area at the back.I have to say it was all rather lovely. The service was charming and attentive, they are clearly keen to make a good impression. We had the pork belly and the cod as main courses and they were delicious, really beautifully cooked. Almost definitely the nicest meal we have had in the town itself since we moved here 10 years ago. Dessert (tarte tatin) was great too, as was the coffee. I had a beer here with a mate, recently, and the pub seemed bare and cold - wooden seats, wooden floors. Maybe it needed more people. I have had a beer here in summer and out in the street is OK but for whatever reason its a basic buy a drink experience. Given its central location and proximity to the large church you think they would work that angle and be more imaginative or cosmopolitan. I decided the Vine or the White Lion had a more welcoming and warm experience. Pity. If I had the license I'd make it more than beer, crisps or pork scratchings.Admittedly, I've never been there when its full and I have never eaten there. I decided to go elsewhere for a meal after my beer. Pity, as I say it has so much potential going begging.

However, we arrived on a Saturday evening at about 7pm and they had no chilled Sauvignon blanc available?!! Very disappointing. The bedroom we stayed in was clean and well laid out. Although the shower/bath had no shower curtain, and the bathroom is on a slope, which I know given how old the building is can't be helped, it was still a little interesting. I've eaten at some of the most wonderful venues all around the UK and world. This little pub, tucked away on the High Street was a welcome from the tasteless beer joints we had to endure in Medway. One staff member (blonde tall chap - weekend worker - originating from Tenderden) was just exceptional in his service. He provided us with a full cider to share so that we could taste the difference between the one we had previously ordered. He chatted with us so comfortably about the town and the demographics etc ....The warm fires roaring in the hearth were a welcome from London where they are not allowed. My Sunday roast was amazing. I don't eat roasts out too much as I am always disappointed (compared to my own home-cooked). Yet the entire repast was the envy of my partner who didn't get a roast dinner. It tasted so good. The lamb could have been a little more tender but its a minor observation since I devoured the lot as if my life depended on it.The house Soave (which I don't often find in a lot of pubs) was just lovely too. We were glad we chose this pub over the Vine which is a very nicely refurbished pub but we prefer to see the aged wooden beams and natural wood floor. Please don't change it too much when you go to do your refurb as the natural / rustic look adds to the charm of the place.Thank You !

Came here on Saturday night for some food/ small plates to share with a friend. I ordered a portion of fries, bread basket, halloumi fries, and a scotch egg for my friend. That with a bottle of white wine was £40. If the portions had been reasonable and the quality good then it still would have been a bit steep, but the quality was average/ poor. The bread basket was a couple of slices of over toasted bread and a few bread sticks. That’s not a bread basket! And the portion of halloumi fries which was £5? You get 3 fries!!!! It’s actually a joke. This is not gourmet/ gastro pub standard food it’s below average to say the least. Definite improvement needed. I spent a lot on meals/ food in Tenterden but that’s the last time I order food in the Woolpack.

Right in the centre of town this pub has recently changed hands and is now so much better. Very good, varied menu priced competitively. Once inside there are a number of cozy rooms going from front to back. Service is excellent.

Trying to find a meal on a Saturday evening we ended up at The Woolpack and were told they could accommodate us in 20 minutes. 40 minutes later we were invited to sit down in a restaurant area the]at only had four people in it, so why the wait? Anyway we ordered our meals which arrived in a timely manner and were quite nice. Puddings followed on but were quite small on proportion. The bill was not cheap, so whilst it was OK it was not something to write home about.

We had lunch here a few Sundays ago. This is the first time in frequenting this pub in quite a while as we were not happy with a visit under the previous owners. I do though quite liked the individual style of decor in the bar and dining areas. The staff were also very helpful and friendly.

This is a restaurant and hotel guest review. Stayed two nights this time and ate there two nights this time too as the food and atmosphere was excellent. Friendly bar and bar staff, good local knowledge and locally-sourced food and beers so what more to ask? Not a perfectly horizontal floor or vertical wall to be found in this ancient inn which adds to the fun but cosy and warm throughout. Will be back.

We had dinner in the bar and breakfast in the restaurant area when we stayed on Saturday night. Both were good food and good value served with a smile. Good real ale too.

Visited with friends and decided to dine there for lunch. Had a burger which was nice. All the food was hot and the staff were friendly. It just took a while to come out which was a bit off putting. Overall not bad. But not great.

I do not wish to be in any way controversial but I enjoyed my stay at The Woolpack Inn in Tenterden much more than my visit to Chapeldown.

I called in for a drink at the bar which turned out to be a full blown pub, it is also a Hotel and Restaurant. Well worth a visit just to see the internal wooden structure and the nicely done furniture and decorations. Parts of the building date back to the 14th century. The beer was fine and the menu looked good. I will have to return and stay for the weekend sometime soon before someone rips it all out and replaces it with plastic and glass.

We went here for lunch on a visit to Tenterden. Having walked most of the high street and being underwhelmed by overpriced eateries and pubs, we saw the menu and went to sit the garden. What an absolute gem.

Lunch Saturday. Ordered a tuna baguette which at 7 quid was a bit steep. I had a mediocre baguette with some fries (which were overdone) and a small salad or leaves and onions. My friends burger was at 13 quid very pricey. The burger was hand made which is a plus but was short on flavour. The cost of the lunch led us to expect a lot but we were left very disappointed and still hungry.

This pub restaurant is serving food of excellent quality and value. Our lunch today was quickly served by friendly, attentive staff. This is definately the place to go for good food served in a historic pub with bags of atmosphere.

Beautiful pub, sadly on seeing the threats of being bared on drug use signs we didn't stay. Not the kind of pub I wanted to be in or around thoses type of people.

What a lovely surprise. This very attractive restaurant in a smart pub has long appealed to us but seems to have changed hands and is now a brilliant choice. Scrummy Mac and cheese for the partner and exceptional fish and chips for me. Delcious very large piece of ever so fresh fish and wonderful chips with home made tartare sauce and mushy peas. Followed by excellent sticky toffee pudding. Great cider and ale all for just over £30 on Good Friday. It was pretty packed and no surprise at that. We eat out a lot locally and look for dog friendly pubs which this one is. Great friendly service. Very highly recommended.

I always come in here when I am on dog walks, and in general with my partner and my family. The staff are friendly and often other customers are friendly too!

We discovered this restaurant whilst driving through the town and it was a truly exceptional experience. The food was very good, the service was very good, and the venue was very good. Anywhere that puts as much effort into making sure all the food it serves is homemade deserves a visit. A must if you are ever nearby and we are definitely likely to go back.

Drove an hour to try out some new material at your open mic - which is clearly listed on your website - only to be told on arrival it’s not happening this month! #ffs Really poor form. Guess we’ll have a drink and drive an hour back home... Website updates are really a quite basic function of good pub management.

I visited The Tickled Trout to celebrate my birthday following a previous visit last year. The pub offers a wide/varied range of options on its menu. I opted for the pull pork and burger option which was absolutely delicious and was beautifully presented! I followed this with the banoffee dessert which was a wonderful conclusion to the meal! The staff were extremely welcoming when we arrived and were friendly and attentive throughout! I would highly recommend The Tickled Trout and would personally like to thank them for providing such a wonderful lunchtime experience!

End of September me and my partner meet up in this place for the first time after a month separation. We was sitting in the garden watching the sunset together when I realised the lady serving at the counter was spaying on us behind the bushes for some reason. It was dark when she decided to walk all the way to the back garden, just to spy ot us, because she couldn't see us in the dark😁 Long story short, after few weeks me and my partner received a parking charge for using the car park which belongs to the pub. She was too busy to spy on us for 2 hours and had no time to tell us that the parking rules has changed recently. Never going back to this dodge place again! Price per person £10–20 Response from the owner 24 minutes ago Wrong pub we don’t charge for car park

The White Lion is well situated at the heart of Tenterden, looks as if it has seen better days, but affords excellent accommodation, wonderful food and friendly service. We enjoyed our short overnight stay.
