The Conningbrook Hotel Restaurant in Ashford

Although its glory days are long behind it and it needs to be refreshed, the hotel is clean. Nice service and good breakfast.

Can't fault the experiences I have had at the Conningbrook, a great selection available on the menu and in the summer probably the biggest and best beer garden around. Plenty of space for the children to be entertained and enjoy the day with a pub lunch. Will definitely return

Came on Sunday for a family lunch as it was my mums birthday and it was amazing, George and his team were very attentive to our needs and made it a memorable day. Will definitely return

Went here on 2nd Feb 25 for a family get together lunch. 16 of us ranging from a 3year old up to over 60 (me). Great welcome from the staff on arrival at what was a very busy day, and that continued with great service both at the bar and at the table. All of us enjoyed our food. I had the Cavery which was as Caveries go as expecte Good meat choices and lots of it, lots of vegetables and, above all else, it was hot. All-in-all we had a great time and very happy and, as I was one that paid the bilI, I was pleasently surprised by that as well. Thank you everyone that looked after us.

We had a meal in the restaurant which we both really enjoyed. My wife had the fish and chips that she loved and I had a lovely steak with mash and vegetables. Excellent all round. The staff Tom and Callum were both excellent as well. We could not fault anything . Well done. 👍

Me & my husband had a really lovely time the people who work there were all very kind and made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived to when we left.we ate dinner there and had breakfast which was lovely. Full Marks to George and the Staff when we celebrated my BIG Birthday on the 25/01/2025. The Buffet was plentiful and of good quality. The ABBA Tribute proved an added bonus and all my guests had a great time. No hesitation in recommending the Conningbrook, looking forward to the next time Trevor S.

I visit the conningbrook regularly, Sophie and Ange have always served me with a friendly and professional atttitude, the management team are very helpful and it's such a lovely environment. Will continue to frequent here 10/10

We had a fun evening at the Conningbrook. There was a band playing so there was a happy lively atmosphere, people chatting and dancing - fab choice of entertainment. The bar staff were helpful, polite and friendly. Looking forward to the ABBA night later in the month.

Stayed here last night for the wham tribute night. What a great night,we love this place,we are frequent vistors here and its because we love the food the staff and the rooms. Everything is so clean and the food is brilliant too. I cant speak highly of the staff they all do a fantastic job and work non stop. A special shout out to Lizzy as she always looks after us and always has a smile on her face and has a brilliant sense of humour. A true asset to this pub. So a massive thank you to everyone at the pub and we will see you all soon,cant rate this place highly enough. Andy & Norma.

Staff were 5* We stayed in a superior double room which was comfortable and had everything you needed for a nights stay. The floorboards creak but it didn’t stop me sleeping! We had dinner and breakfast included and nothing was surcharged. You had availability of the full menu. For breakfast I wanted to make a couple of changes and nothing was too much trouble. All the staff we encountered on our stay were welcoming and we felt couldn’t do enough for you to make your stay enjoyable. Thank you to all.

The staff are lovely and welcoming. Nothing is to much trouble. The staff are kind helpful and go out off their way to help. The food is lovely and tribute nights are very good. Everyone is so disability friendly.

Had a carvery on Sunday and wow!! Food was cooked to perfection! Would definitely come back again and recommend! Staff were friendly and prices are great for everything you get!

Bed was comfy. Staff was terrific. Friendly and accommodating. The place is kept clean. A bit noisy when they have an event. Food is okay. Not great. The staff makes up for the food.

Family visit for their Sunday carvery. The staff were very good, the food was cooked well. It was a shame the food was served on cold plates and the food was at the best luke warm or cold. Even the gravy was only just warm. The meat is carved on a cold area so was cold when served. Not sure the heating elements on the veg area was on, but new roasties arrived whilst waiting and even they were not hot. A shame as everything was cooked well. Won't go again. The veg option was served before we went up and the kids meals arrived whilst in the queue! So cold as well by the time we all sat down.

Good menu on offer, lots of drinks selection on tap. Food arrived and was really good quality. Appears to be dog friendly, which we didn’t mind at all. Good choice of vegetarian meals. It was noted that a 10% service charge is automatically added on. So beware of this.

The hotel was easy to find, located just off a roundabout. The rooms, whilst not 5* by todays standards were large, functional and the beds very comfortable. The bar and dining area was very spacious, the bar was well stocked and had non alcoholic ciders. The menu choices were second to none and the meals larger than expected. Lizzie, Mary and Ton looked after our needs and should be complimented. If we visit Kent in the future this hotel will be on our todo list

Me and my partner came to the restaurant for a spot of lunch yesterday afternoon. From start to finish our server, provided a professional, seamless experience. Unfortunately, a broken unit in the kitchen meant a few items from the menu were not available. That being said though, the extensive menu provided by the restaurant meant we soon found something to tuck in to ! I enjoyed the lasagne and my partner enjoyed the “Nourish bowl”. The food was absolutely delicious ! my partner and I have already picked what we want next time and look forward to coming back soon. It’s so clear that the new general manager cares so much about this pub and it is wonderful to see how it has been transformed in the past year. Deffo recommend !

Always a warm, friendly welcome. I've been to a number of tribute nights and band nights and there is always a great atmosphere. The food is good and reasonably priced. Staff are professional, courteous and well organised. A great place to spend time with family and friends.

Have visited the conningbrook several times with my family where we experienced delicious meals and excellent service. The staff are always welcoming and friendly anytime we visit. Staff are always extremely mindful of the allergy that my daughter has ensuring that all staff are aware so they can cater for her. Would highly recommend anyone to visit this well run establishment.

A nightmare from start to finish. Arrived midday Wednesday looking forward to a family meal.Had been told its not necessary to book. Shown to our table and sat down to then be told ''sorry we don't have any steak or fish!!!'' .... My 92 year old mother had been really looking forward to having fish and chips! My brother who is unable to go out very often was looking forward to steak and chips surely not a big 'ask'!! even for a pub never mind a place that describes itself as a restaurant.We had to make do with microwaved scampi and a ''hard as nails'' steak and kidney pie......The restaurant was deserted.I wonder why? Never ever again.You have been WARNED!.

We always get great service here. As a large family we understand that sometimes we can be an annoying booking, but nothing is ever too much trouble for any member of staff especially when combined with fussy eaters and allergies.

Wedding on 14th September. Staff were amazing, food was absolutely fantastic. Venue was absolutely perfect for us. Everyone at the wedding said it was the best they’d ever been to. Very relaxed. Staff went out of their way to accommodate and were really amazing. Would highly recommend to everyone.

Fantastic food and very friendly service. The new play area is brilliant and keeps the little kids (and the big kids…) entertained.

Went to watch the England Vs Spain match....Result was awful but couldn't fault the venue....It was absolutely jam packed (as to be expected) but we were still able to park so a good start....Queues for the bar (again to be expected for a final in the Euros) but we didn't have to wait too long as there were plenty of staff behind the bar so surprisingly quick....Good choice of drinks and snacks and reasonably priced....Couldn't fault the set up for the football...Multiple large tvs scattered around both inside and out...Impossible not to be able to get a good view wherever you were sitting....Fab evening despite the final score!! Definitely recommend!

Booked to stay here as we had a wedding locally to attend . The hotel & bar staff were so helpful nothing was a problem at all. We had rooms booked for two nights where on the second night our sisters were staying in the room as we were staying at the wedding venue and the hotel happily changed and cleaned all our rooms for the change. We used the bar for dinner on the Saturday there was a reasonable choice on the menu and the food was delicious the staff were helpful attentive and service was speedy and efficient. Rooms were pleasant and breakfast was lovely and good value. Jordan who was on reception & working the bar was so helpful and really did ensure our stay was pleasant and that we were well looked after as .

We went in for the Sunday Carvery - the food was great, and a great choice of veg - piping hot and very tasty! We were looked after by some great staff, Tom and Laura especially helped make our visit a stress free experience! We did not leave room for a pudding, but those we saw looked very tasty

Fantastic pub in a great location. The garden is fab for the kids, the menu has a huge range of options (including a great gluten free selection - which I can assure you the management are very careful to ensure is prepared and served appropriately), and the staff are friendly and welcoming. A well managed & welcoming venue, just perfect for a family lunch, evening meal or a night out for live music. They have a wonderful space for functions, and loads of room for parking! I'm a huge fan - in case you hadn't realised already. I can't rate/review the rooms simply because I haven't stayed here.

The most wonderful staff, best atmosphere, fantastic food. Could not recommend this place enough. George is the most fantastic host and love coming back!

Had a fantastic surprise 60th birthday party here! George and his team were amazing! Delicious buffet and a great room for a family party. George organised a great disco and photo booth which captured all the fun. We stayed the night along with many of the guests and we all had comfortable, quiet rooms. Lovely breakfast in the morning which was needed by all! All in all a great venue for a celebration! Would definitely use the Conningbrook again.

Had the pleasure of staying at the hotel, cannot fault the flawless service from breakfast all the way through until I came to the restaurant for my evening meal. Big props to the management team; will deffo be recommending this to friends and family.

Went on Sunday 2nd June for my wife's mums 91st birthday,there were 9 of us to have the carvery,well here we go the beef that 3 people had could not be cut with a sharp knife,let alone be chewed so that was left,it looked like the cheapest of cuts,the cauliflower cheese was undercooked and rock hard,the roast potatoes were more like overcooked boiled potatoes,the pathetic four bowls containing apple sauce ,cranberry etc were all empty,when I paid the guy behind the bar said was everything ok,I told him all the above,and replied oh,disgrace and will not return

Bad experience with the hotel. Booked in for friday and Saturday. Drove 300 from bolton miles to find no room for friday and no rooms available for the friday night. They had booked us in for Saturday and Sunday . Thanks for premier inn Ashford. First and last time I would book a small independent hotel again. Premier inns far better for rooms and service.

Lovely garden away from the road. Food was good and competitively priced. Bedroom was comfortable. Unfortunately there was no water in the bedroom in the morning so couldn't shower. Reception were unable to resolve when approached

Nice big room, comfortable bed. Friendly helpful staff. Great view out of the window. Only downside is the squeaky floor in the corridor, but it's an old building.

Very nice address! Lovely, clean and comfortable hotel. Top notch bedding! Perfect for a family (spacious room with bunk beds for children). A large, very pleasant park, with a beautiful play area for little ones. The pub is worth a visit too. Really very friendly and attentive staff. Delicious dishes and reasonable quantities. Short stay convenient location for onward travel.

Well I’ve stayed at the hotel for a week and ate my dinner there at least 4 times. The staff has been wonderful and the food was delicious.

It's ok but the beds are really uncomfortable.

We had a family get together for dinner on Tuesday. 7 adults and 5 rowdy kids! Excellent friendly staff - they couldn’t do enough for us. Brilliant atmosphere - my brother and his family were staying there and couldn’t praise the service enough. Thank you!!!

It is old worn and not maintained. The food was ok but that's it. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Also located on a very busy road.

We’ve just had the carvery which was lovely, highly recommend. Our waiter was Thomas, who was amazing, who made sure we were happy through out, very attentive to us all, including our 3 year old. Great food with great service

We visited the Conningbrook for a Sunday carvery and were not disappointed. We had been before and once again, Thomas, was exceptional, great with the kids and very attentive. We will be back!

Didn't stay. I just came for a wake

Stayed overnight and the bed was very comfy. Furniture in the room was a little tired and the decor could do with a refresh. The staff were excellent especially Alfie who was a pleasure to deal with. It was a very busy night and we still felt well looked after.

We stayed the night last night to be honest now I'm only going off experiences from before when we arrived. We were waiting a while and then we actually went and got someone to check us in. We went up to the room. The rooms looked clean that was until we looked on the bed. There was a dead fly under the pillow and little black bits all over the sheets Now I know it's impossible to get everything off the sheets when you put them on clean, but to me this was unacceptable in my eyes it just seems to me that there is a lack of care when cleaning the rooms we have stayed in this hotel before. last year the year before and the year before that and we had no problems whatsoever. The staff tend to go missing but you know they could be working else where in the building anyway we went out for dinner because I'm not a particular fan of the food in the pub and then we came back. Even though we had turned our radiator off. It was extremely hot in the room. We had the windows open etc and it was still very very warm which led to an uncomfortable night sleep. It seems to me that they're not maximised in staff. The people that now own the hotel and pub seem to me that they are purely profiting rather than customer satisfaction. We have breakfast this morning and it was rubbish. The sausage was cheap and tasted like s*** the egg wasn't even cooked properly and that was on my plate and my wife's. The mushroom tasted off. the only thing that was any good was the hash browns you get one slice of toast and that isn't even cooked the way I liked it. in a nutshell. Since this place has been taken over by redcat, it seems to me that the hell bent on just making money and not keeping with maintenance of the property, doubt there properly staffed and just need a general clean environment. Sadly to say we won't be returning to this hotel anytime soon. I thought I would put this on here because I don't like seeing people waste their money I speak the truth of all places and this one sadly gone down hill

I visited the restaurant last Friday with a friend for lunch having pre booked. We were made to feel very welcome upon arrival and given a choice of tables in the light and airy restaurant overlooking the veranda and garden areas. Our food order was freshly prepared very quickly and I have to say the meals were cooked to perfection and very generous in size. The service was second to none with our waiters being very attentive. Nothing was too much trouble. We were there by choice chatting for a long time but were left in peace until we were ready to leave. All in all a very pleasant experience and one I intend to repeat very soon.

We had a wonderful Carvery today piping hot food, the staff were very attentive and courteous. Will definitely go again we hadn't been since pre pandemic.

Last minute change of plans took me to this bar area. It was nice enough, spacious and clean and the bar lady was kind and friendly. Unfortunately they didn't serve food until 6, had limited snacks behind the bar and with a teen tagging along who had just finished school this was quite inconvenient.

We chose the Conningbrook Hotel for our office Christmas party and it was an excellent choice. We are definitely going to book a party night there again for this year. Some of our team stayed and they all said how nice it was. The staff were super efficient and friendly. The food was excellent too.

Went for lunch with a carptch up with family from Scotland, there was 9 of us the service was slow and poor, the steak meal was dry and consisted of a small tomato,mushroom steak, chips and loads rocket no sauces,ie peppercorn,Stilton were available,a gluten free fish was ordered but non gluten brought out had to go back,the pastry on the pie was hard needed a hammer to get in,food took ages to come out ,defiantly not going back

I always opt to stay here when working in Ashford. Staff well what can I say apart from they make me feel as "part of the family". Rooms superbly clean, comfortable, cool/warm depends on the weather. Very busy but no problems at all with service. Thumbs up to you all.

I thought it was a legal requirement for pubs to show a price list.Having been ripped off in the past at other establishments I requested a wine list to see what was available,no wine lists existed.We ordered 2 glasses of chardonnay,one medium and one large and were charged over £18.On querying the price was just met with a glare and a shrug.Should have just walked away but had visited this pub for the first time in years and wanted to check it out with a view to booking a family dinner.Will not be back

The hotel is only fifteen minutes away from Car Shuttle terminal. The location is excellent and reasonably easy to find. The service is the evening was very good, the evening meal was basic but the burger was very good. The room was fine, clean and comfortable with a very large bath. Breakfast experience was surprisingly poor with a urn of communal weak tea and extra tea bags provided when asked for. Service was poor with long waits and the cooked breakfast poor quality.

We went today for Lunch, I booked a table for 12 but 14 of us turned up- the staff prepared extra seats no problem. 3 of us took dogs, not only is the pub dog friendly, but most of the staff have dogs too- which is great. The food and drinks were superb, as was the service- we will definitely be back, great pub great people 👍

Meeting up with friends for a table of five with lots to catch upon. The service was superb and the food was excellent and such good value. Amongst us we had, Salad, Fish and Chips, Scampi and chips, Ham egg and chips. Everyone was pleased and all meals arrived together. Everything from being welcomed, through drinks orders and choosing sweets was handled by friendly staff that demonstrated great customer service skills. It started a bank holiday weekend with a lovely feeling - THANKS to a great team. Be very proud of yourselves.

It was bland. It wasn't awful nor was it good. But for the price I'd have expected more. The staff seem nice enough but overall this place seems quite soulless. I'd probably return here for drinks since it's a nice enough looking establishment. But with its loss of personality over the years, I'd not want to take anyone here for anniversary type events etc.

Dinner for a party of ten for Mother's Day 19 March 2023. The following is my review and does not necessarily reflect the views of any of the other guests. I had a two course carvery dinner and it was certainly the worst carvery I have ever had. (We were eating late afternoon/early dinner time). There were not many customers and I suspect that the food had been out for some time. The food was also by an open window on a not very warm day. As a result the food was, at best, luke-warm. I could see that the beef was undercooked so opted for the lamb. Unfortunately this was also undercooked, but it was also very tough, and completely tasteless. The vegetables I had were also tasteless. For dessert I had one of my favourite - lemon meringue pie with cream. I have never had lemon meringue pie before that had no meringue. On top of the pie was a sort of creamy mousse, and this was provided with some sort of cream and ONE raspberry all covered in an overly sweet caramel sauce. An extremely disappointing end to a very poor meal. The service was slow and since the restaurant was not very busy this was inexcusable. It is a couple of years since I last visited this restaurant which was poor then and despite what I believe to be new owners, has not improved.

A disappointing expensive cold carvery. With hindsight you’re paying an inflated price for a free child’s carvery with every adult one. We were 5 adults so didn’t benefit from this. The carvery was lukewarm. Very average. Service good. Desserts nice. But object to the 10% service charge being added on. Something I’ve only ever encountered in better restaurants than this. I’d like to decide what to tip! Wasn’t worth the extra £13 on our bill that’s for sure!

Food I'm writing this review purley on the Sunday lunch we had this week we live locally and always supported the pub Sunday carvery always been amazing sorry not not more, after various changes not for the best in my opinion as a local it's not good sorry; the staff have changed as stubbs kicked in but the pub itself is never busy at all, some times just been us to on a Saturday night not good no atmosphere in there at all the staff look so bored have to say, but Sunday just gone was a off the cuff prompt wish we hadn't 3 adults 1 child the meat was lovely the POTATOES WAS DEFINITELY FROZEN AND THE VEG WELL EL DENTINE WAS A DEFINITELY THE CAULIFLOWER CHEESE LIKE BRICKS YOURSHIRE PUDS GREAT MEAT THE REAST NO NO SO 3 MEALS ONE CHILD ONE BEER 2 WINES 3 PUDDINGS £127 RIDICULOUS PUDDINGS WAS THE BEST THING WE WONT BE GOING BACK THINK THE DEMISE OF THE CONNINGBROOK IS ON THE CARDS DEFO FLATS FLATS SHAME

Can somebody please explain why a 10% Service Charge is being added to the Bill for a Self-Serve Carvery and why there is nothing on the Menu to inform Customers of this?

My partner, I and our pooch stayed at the Conningbrook to visit family. The staff were polite, attentive and thoughtful. They served us hot drinks out of service hours as I had family come visit during the day. Nothing was too much trouble. The only suggestion my partner would like to add are that the pancakes where overpriced. Thank you ladies for a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere, we'll definitely be staying again.

We stayed here with friends, prior to going over to France for my 70th birthday. A lovely welcome from the cheerful girl on reception. Our room was good, clean, well presented and perfectly adequate (room 38). As it was Sunday, the normal menu was not operating (it would have been good it it said on the website) but we all had a really good meal, the beef was as I like it, quite rare. Also pork, Turkey and hammon available. The Pinot wad rather £££, but what really struck us was how friendly yet staff were. We were well looked after (waitress with colourful highlights). A good night's sleep and in the morning a buffet continental breakfast and then a FRESHLY COOKED full English. That was lovely. Served by the same lady who met us on reception the night before, still cheerful. We learnt then that she was the General Manager, Janine. It is obvious she leads from the front. Thank you for a lovely stay. It would have been 5 * if the Pinot was a more sensible price, because the staff all deserved praise.

Reasonable choice of pub grub on offer, but you get the impression that the property needs a bit of a refresh or even a deep clean. Our table of four were placed next to the "fire doors" to the garden and therefore people were constantly passing us to go in and out from the garden where they were having a cigarette - usually leaving the door slightly ajar making it a very draughty spot. Good value food though and the service was OK.
