Fish'n'Chick'n in Milton Keynes

We have used this store since it opened and the fish has been excellent. Today, my cod was obviously not freshly cooked and had been re-heated. The price of fish has meant we, pensioners, have had cut back on this treat. It should be top quality.

fish n chips undercooked fish raw in places pale chips. £27.00 unsure if it was cod as requested. No que outside should have been the clue!

Ordered 3 lunchtime specials. Nothing was ready and waited for 10 minutes, to receive the worst fish and chips ever. Slow server who seemed inexperienced. Tiny size and poor quality of fish, with hardly any batter that was not proper batter, minimal coverage and soggy/underdone. Chips were already done, and cold ish inside and very odd in taste. Avoid at all costs. Not sure what has happened but this has gone downhill. Waste of money and worse still, left an awful taste in mouth, with most going in the bin!!!

Usually the food here is good but they are always on the slow side and you can usually see the front of house staff arguing with the staff cooking in the back. This is because the staff in the back tend to mishear what the front of house are telling them I spite of being told very clearly. So today I ordered food from the counter at 6pm and didn't receive it until 6.45pm. All the staff, front and back, seemed very muddled, looking through pieces of paper trying to figure out who had ordered what. The staff are always very polite to customers and the food is usually good with a few exeptions. I think I'll be giving them a miss for a while.

This used to be the best chip shop in MK - not sure what has gone wrong. A chip shop that can't cook chips? The chips looked, and tasted, rehated and stale, like cardboard. Give it a swerve unless Reg comes back.

Fish was burned, the lady skipping people in que for her preferences, the photos speak for them self's, the staff not so friendly , they didn't even ask if you want salt or vinegar

Ordered fish and chips and pie and chips plus 2 x curry sauce. Was charged a astronomical £25.83 then after a 5 min wait told sorry no pie or curry sauce but he could swap for mushrooms or sausage. I definitely won’t be going back. The fish and chip shop on furzton is so much better and a fraction of the price.

This chip shop used to be superb,not any more. We visited before Christmas and the chips were cold,greasy and full of ends,the fish greasy and soggy. But I couldn't fault the customer service from the pleasant youngsters. Gave it another chance this week and after giving my order I waited for over half an hour whilst the girl did endless takeaway orders. Eventually I asked where my food was as many others had come and gone in the time. She had forgotten it but I got no apology and she said I would have to wait five minutes for fish.I said I was not waiting any longer and someone came from the back to tell her to give me two bigger fillets,if I had wanted larger ones I would have ordered them! She did the order then banged it on the counter without an apology,so rude,not something I have ever experienced here. The fish was hardly warm,very greasy and with very little fish in the middle of a lot of soggy batter. Again the chips were soggy with a lot of ends. We had ordered a chicken and this wasn't wrapped properly so it spilled juice and fat all over the fish and chips and soaked the paper bag.That is it,I'm never going back,not even to claim the free takeaway meal and chips I was due.

The family came round on Sunday and we chose to have fish and chips as it was my husband birthday one of his favourite meals is fish and chips.the fish was very nice but sadly the chips let it down.they were wrinkled and dry and could tell that they had been reheated.we hardly ate any,they were awful .the order was for cod and chips x3 one fish cake and chips and two time sausage and chips ,the bill was pretty high which you don’t mind if you enjoy the meal ,but sorry to say we were let down by left over chips that had been thrown back into the fryer to reheat. Not a happy customer.8/01/24.

This takeaway was terrible. The chips were reheated and cold. The saveloy was cold and the battered sausage was over cooked. It is a shame because before Reg passed away it was lovely and now they have run it in to the ground.

Such a shame to have seen this place come so downhill when it comes to customer service. The waiting time is silly , it almost seems as though the staff on hand were entirely pre occupied with delivery or pre orders to take the orders of the customers waiting inside. I wouldn't risk visiting physically here if you wanted food in a reasonable time.

Cold mushy chips , small portion ever (count them on my fingers) for £2.85. Must get the worst potatoes, cooked with the least oil for the shortest time on the lowest temperature in the fryer.

Had 2 pies 1 chips pies were like cardboard worst food I've ever had from here seems like somethings changed won't be going again . FOOD ENDED UP GOING IN THE BIN

Thought I would try here again after a few times of disappointment and I don’t know why I bothered Well I usually buy my chips from The Village Plaice on whaddon way. STILL CANT FIND BETTER THAN HERE Was in Shenley church end so I thought petrolatum a bit low so I will just grab food from Fishnchicken!!! What a mistake!! Over £9 on a portion not big enough to feed my husband alone. Normally a large cod and chips in bletchley does the 2 of us but from this chip shop £9 later I ended up eating from the cupboard as it didn’t even fill my husband. Chips were dry as old boots and tasted rank Portion was absolutely diabolical The cod could swim in the oil it was in and was half the size I get from The Village Plaice Bring back Reg at least his smile always cheered you up this lot are also a bunch of miserable guys. Very saddened to give them £10 of my early money. Shall NOT let myself be fooled again by this chip shop 😡😡

OMG, this place used to be really ok but what on earth has happened??? If you are a chippy and you can't cook chips, you may aswell pack it in!! The bag of chips were just a massive ball of grease saturated potato. The paper they were wrapped in was absolutely soaked in oil. Probably the worst chips I have had in many a year and definitely wont be going back. Server may have been friendly but I wasn't there to make friends!!

We ordered some fish and chips for dinner but were greatly disappointed. The chips were hard and tasted as though they had been made earlier in the day but were just reheated. The fish was greasy and tasted like it was old lunchtime fish and chips that had been refried. Definitely will not be returning as was absolutely disgusting!! DO NOT RECOMMEND

Always find the staff friendly and efficient when i have ordered and the food is cooked to order and hot

This started off as a decent fish and chip shop although not as good as the previous one. Over the years it has gone steadily downhill and my recent visit resulted in poor quality chips and soggy battered cod. Prices are also high.There are better fish and chip shops in the city so give this one a miss.

Never a problem, good portion sizes, been going there since they took it over from previous owners. Can sometimes appear busy but queue goes quickly

The quality of the fish and chips is great, the batter is light and large chips means large and the fish is also a great portion. It is though to expensive it should not be £1.80 for a curry sauce for example. Go here for the quality but you will be able to get cheaper portions in other take away places or better still go across the road and by from Sainsbury’s and cook your own.

I am always wary about fish and chips. Either the meal is greasy and soggy, cold, or both. These, I promise, are the best I have had in Milton Keynes. Simply superb.

Popped in for an easy dinner and was pleased with the cleanliness and service. The gish portions were good and so were the chips but I have had far better chips in terms of crispness and appearance. Sorry guys but not up to expectations!

Fish n chickn do gluten free fish and chips on Sundays (in a separate fryer so no cross contamination) and we regularly pop in and get it as a Sunday treat (my husband gets the normal fish and chips). Really nice fish and chips both gf and non gf, always plenty of fish in the batter and never too fishy- great portion sizes too! Would say it’s one of the best chippies I’ve ever been to- highly recommend!

They say 'freshly baked pies', what they are are freshly reheated in microwave Pukka pies!! 1 gherkin 75p, in supermarkets only £1 for large jar!! Won't be going again! Big John's in Birmingham fish & chips £4.99!!

This fish and chip shop has always been excellent in my view but the quality seems to have slipped of late. On my last couple of visits the standard has not be as high as I've been used to but I did receive a refund after my complaint. I hope this is just a 'blip' and that the previous high standard will return soon.

We visited on a very busy night (Christmas Eve) and the service was good. The four of us had different things, sharing chips between us and two got a spam fritter. The employees seemed efficient and we all enjoyed our meals, just a shame there's nowhere easier to stand while we wait!

I travel to get this fish and chips, great quality. Great loyalty scheme also. Childrens meals also available here, which you don't see in many fish n chip shops. Good job guys.

Visited FishnChicken which in one form or another has been a local chippie for me, my family and friends for many years.

I wasn't happy on my last visit here, the fish was ok, however the chips were reheated from the afternoon i think as they were awful, tasteless and very bruised.

Thought we would treat ourselves to a fish supper. Very disappointed. Chips were horrid soggy and cold and fish was over cooked dry and blooming horrid. Won’t be returning. Most of food went into bin!

Lunchtime special cod and chips for £4.99 is excellent value (served until 4pm). Fish was not as flaky as it has been and chips showed the problems of this time of year when good spuds are not readily available.

Good selection of freshly cooked fish, sausages and chips. Most lines are fried to order on less busy nights so you may have a wait, but worth waiting for. Something on the menu to suit most people.

It was close to the travel lodge so convenient for food. It was really nice, fish great, good service and nice and clean, well done!

The cod and haddock fillets are excellent with perfect batter. The chicken is really tasty and cooked to perfection. The chips are good, but I would prefer them a little browner. We will keep returning.

Have bought fish and chips a few times since it was Reggies. Not impressed. Went in this evening about 8.00pm to buy supper after a day out visiting relatives. Stood behind 1 person who ordered loads of different stuff - about 10 minutes. Then the only member of staff kept serving pre-orders! Walked out!

This is the best fish & chip shop in MK! We love the food here. We only have it as a treat every now and then but each and every time we do, we are never disappointed. They offer a good selection and always happy to cook something different like say rock eel. The staff are always friendly and helpful. Writing this review has made me want some!

Its a good fish and chip shop but at peak Times you have to que out of the door and can wait in the sue 10 plus minutes . Usually its quality fish and chips but being the local it does vary slightly won who is frying . Overall very good just shame about the ques.

The queues outside this fish and chip shop are testament to its quality. The high demand ensures that the food is at its best and not been sitting on a hot shelf waiting for customers. The fish is always first class with delicious batter and the service is friendly. Highly recommended.

We are Friday regulars at Fish'n Chick'n . Over many visits have tried Fish and Chips and Chicken and Chips. Never anything but some of the best we have tasted. Always smiling and cheerful staff.

The food is always of a good quality however don’t go there on a rush! There is always a long queue. The last time I went there was one person that was quick but the others were very slow.

We have used this twice recently and I've been impressed both times. The fish is good quality and the batter is light and tasty. I love that they do senior portions which is a great idea for people with smaller appetites.

Great quality and variety in this chippy, the chicken and mushroom pie is so flavoursome and their roast chicken is moist, just how it should be. I'll be back to try the fish and chips very soon. Staff are incredibly friendly and the menu is great value for money!

Just sat down to Friday evening dinner with their fish and chips and I have to say it was one of the best fish suppers I've ever had.

Called in here for dinner for four of us. Great food lovely and warm when it arrived. I like that it's all cooked while you wait. Very tasty. A little pricey £40 for four meals , but worth it.

I hadn't been to this "chip shop" for a long time but fancied chicken pie and chips. The chips were limp and luke warm the pie pastry was hard and unpleasant. I then remembered why I hadn't been there in a long while. The previous owners did a good job with tasty appetising food, not the case now.

The fish and chips are always fresh, perfectly cooked and delicious. They are never greasy and the service is good. The queues out of the door are testament to the quality.

Go for a large haddock, money well spent and the best in my opinion. Do need the chips either try a pickled egg with it. Good stuff.

You get great food here. And everyone knows it. So be prepared to wait. It will be worth it. If you want anything non standard, e.g. burgers, chicken nuggets, pineapple fritters, then yell out your order as you enter and they will add it to the list so you don't have to wait when you get to the till to pay for your order. On Sundays they also provide gluten free fish and chips made to order. Although this is not our nearest chippy, it's our favourite. Always good food.

Nice crispy batter on the fish and generous portions of chips. It can get very busy, especially on a Friday night but the staff are very efficient and keep the queue moving along. Don't be shy about calling out your order if it's something they need to cook to order

cannot say I like this place we had fish and chips from here a week ago and I an sure the chips had been reheated they were grey the fish is not much better I will be looking for somewhere else from now on

It's a Saturday evening after 8pm and my friend and I are hungry. The order of the night, fish and chips.We initially went to the golden fry in Newport but that was closed. We were going to go to the fish and chip shop in bradwell common, but fancied a change. There used to be a good one in shenley I think it's gone now, but that was ok. We decided to go to the new one FishnChickn.We got there about 9pm, the place shuts at 10pm we asked for 3 large Cods and small chips, we got told they had no large Cod.We then asked for 3 medium Cods and small chips, we got told there was no medium Cods. My friend then asked for some chickens and he was told that they had no chicken. (Unreal right)It was pointed out, for shop that calls itself Fish N Chick N they weren't doing very well. No sooner had this remark been said in jest, we were barked at by the bull neck employee at the back, hiding behind the fryers. " we can't just cook it all for you" trying to push blame on to a customer as to why they had no food out rather than the sad truth of profit margins and wastage to please the boss over customer satisfaction and retention. A simple, were out of stock would have sufficed.We asked for 3 small fish and chips with a curry sauce, it came to £20.50 Now I have tried to keep an open mind on the rating and taste of the food.My request for extra salt and vinegar on the chips went down like a lead ballon also I must add. The chips looked really good coming out of the fryer, but sadly that's as good as they got. Browning was nice, no crunch to them, soggy and hard chips. 2 out of 5. Curry sauce: standard microwave job 2 out of 5.The fish, again it looked good, and I have to admit the batter was ok, they assured me it was home made batter. The fish, not to my liking, nothing wrong with it, cooked well, but it just lacked the finish. A bit too chewy. Overall 3 out of 5 I can safely say it's one chain I won't be visiting again in MK, however I keep an open mind. Overall value, visit and taste: 2 out of 5 avoid or go elsewhere, my advice, try a family run place, they look after the customer rather than the overheads. Something's can't be bought

Have visited many times, food is always hot, fresh and tasty. There happy to cook you something they don't have in the counter. Reasonably priced and good service. What more could you ask for. Just a shame they no longer offer the discounts on voucher cloud.

The rotissary chicken is melt in the mouth. Succulent and juicy and tender. The chips can be great or they can be rotten depends on pot luck. Batter is good

In my view this is one of the best fish and chip shops I have visited and probably the best one in Milton Keynes. The queues inside (and sometimes outside) are testament to the quality of the food. I have been going here since the current company took over from "Reg's" and the quality is consistently high. Thoroughly recommended.

Be warned time this wrong and there can be a queue, but that is a good sign. Classic fish and chips served well and always tasty

A re-review. The quality of fish and chips remains too much on who is cooking. Sometimes the fish needs longer in the pan. Too many chips generally for me They could do to offer a smaller portion at reduced cost. This is relatively an expensive place.

Visited here on a number of occasions & each time the quality of the food has declined. Latest visit didn't get what we paid for, chips undercooked & full of black spots, fish poor quality & batter undercooked. I have brought it to the managers attention a number of times & instead of improving the quality has got worse. We won't be back EVER

I have coeliac disease which means that I can not eat anything that contains wheat, barley, rye or oats; or anything that has come into contact with these contaminants (including frying in the same oil as these ingredients). When I got back late on a Sunday from a long drive and just didn't feel like cooking I had a browse online to see if there were any gluten free takeouts available nearby. I saw that Fish'n'Chick'n advertise that they can cater for gluten free on a Sunday all day so I was excited to go and check it out. We arrived quite late (just before closing) but they were so friendly and even though they had shut the gluten free fryer off, to cool down before close, they were happy to switch it back on even though I said I would understand if they couldn't.They were amazing. The service was fantastic. I very rarely meet such knowledgeable people about this condition and they blew me away with everything that they were aware of. They made me feel safe to eat there and like it was no bother at all to prepare a gluten free meal in a place preparing food that you think is closed off for good after diagnosis. I didn't have to say anything at all, they knew that being a coeliac means no gluten above 20 parts per million and prepared everything ensuring to the tiniest detail that my food couldn't come into contact with gluten. They even knew that barley malt vinegar is not suitable and offered me gluten free vinegar stating that it is also available for purchase. All my food was labelled gluten free and kept completely separate from my partner's gluten containing food. I didn't have to worry about anything at all. To top it off they have a great range of food available gluten free including gluten free battered sausage! I haven't been able to have that since I was diagnosed at 18! I saw that they also offer gluten free children's meals which is a rare find.The food was really tasty, just the right amount of batter, and for a very reasonable price. I enjoyed every last bite with no worries and no adverse reactions afterwards. My partner also said that his chicken nuggets and saveloy were great too. He said the nuggets were proper chicken rather than reconstituted and were very tasty. I have now found a fish and chip shop where I can enjoy battered sausage, chips and mushy peas again!!I heartily recommend this chippie and will certainly be a regular there now. Thank you Fish'N'Chick'n for going the extra mile!

The prices in this chips shop are easily 20% higher than what is found elsewhere, unless you go on a lunchtime where the £4.50 fish and chips is actually good value.Where this place earns its 2 stars is how consistently awful the chips are. The fish is okay but not once have I enjoyed the cardboard chips here.

Never disappoints. Been going here before when it was Regs, standard remained the same after it was taken over. Love the reward system too!!

Back again for the lunchtime special - cod and chips for £4.50.Piping hot and freshly cooked. It would be hard to fault this take-away.

This is the busiest fish and chip shop in milton keynes by far,i have never had bad food from here unlike other chippys ,its been popular since it was called reg's fish bar and has got busier.Tasty food ,slightly higher priced than some others but i think you get what you pay for.i personally recommend the half cooked chicken and chips deal.

fresh, delicious, nicely cooked fish size of Mobey Dick! batter crispy and not greasy; fish moist, nice and white and a it should be. Chips good.Thought we'd never be able to eat massive portions (we ordered large size fish) .... but we did - and enjoyed every mouthful!

I have to say the previous owners made it more entertaining "Mind yer fingers, chips are hot" people who have been previous to new owners will remember Reg.Overall a pleasant and clean chip shop serving a good selection and normally not greasy and because it is quite busy everything is normally fresh and crispy, I will drive past 3 chip shops to go here instead.

Cod and chips for five one evening just before Christmas. The fish was hot, moist and freshly cooked. Unfortunately it was let down a little by soggy chips.

Used to come here all the time when it was Reg and Jill's. When it changed hands it was also good but just went tonight (17 December 15), waited for 20 minutes, then took the wrapped package home for dinner. Chips were swimming in grease and fish cake was tasteless, never again! My wife threw her's straight in the bin. What a disappointment.

Very good fish'n'chips , prices are ok. The fish is very tasty and the portions are enormous.I think one of the best fish'n'chips you can have, even much better than the one in Tobey Carvery for example.Highly recommended on takeaway

I cant speak for what goes on before 9pm because of the shifts I work,but if you turn up at fish and chicken after 9pm, forget it, the place is being wiped down and there is usually very little left for sale, the chips would appear to be fried well before this time and kept warm, for me this isn't a one off its happened a few times, but this was the last time, I appreciate that they do not want to have wasted food but if your shop shuts at 10pm, would you really have very little for customers to buy and be cleaning all of the hot press down by 9.10pm!

Went in to get my misses some fish and chips and decided to get myself some while there. Their TVs with photos of the food is saliva inducing. I queued for 10 minutes despite there only being 2 people in front and finally got to order. I asked for two medium cods and some extras. The young man (who was actually quite polite) told me that they didn't have any: only small or large. So I ordered two small. The man at the back then shouted 'got none'. The man at the till looked as confused as I and I said 'you have nothing' and he replied with 'it's 10'. Now I understand this man may finish at 10, but don't waste my time and only give me a grunt of an explanation. In those 10 minutes I could have gone to either subway or sainsburys which was a mere 30 seconds away. Bottom line was we just needed food. Just come back from holiday and the fridge had nothing in. Mans got to eat! If the chef had informed his college he was not willing to cook anything else he could then have told us to stop us waiting. So standing in a room with 3 other groups, despite walking in at the same time, we were the only group that left without food.Chef was rude and clearly in charge over the man at the till. Again the man at the till was fine and clearly, regrettably taking orders. The thing that annoyed me the most about the whole this was that I have eaten there before and not been overly impressed but I let the misses decide on a place to eat and it was near my mums house bla bla bla. So queuing for food I didn't like only to be told 'got none' by a man who articulated himself like he would struggle to spell his own name angered me immensely. Sort it out. The two stars are for the poor man on the till and the fact that I saw you do 7 tempura prawns for £1.99 and to be fair. That's an ace deal. Shame I didn't get to smash them in my face.

This used to be 'Reg and Jill's' and many people including me were worried when this new company took it over. However, the quality is just as good. Even though there is almost always a queue, it moves fairly quickly and the staff are friendly and welcoming.
