The fish was fresh and the batter crispy but the chips were not fresh and the oil had turned everything rancid. With curry sauce mushy peas and garlic mayo it ended up being more expensive than fish and chips at the Spotted Cow not far away which is really nice

This is a difficult review to write because I was looking for fish and chips specifically and was really happy to find Fishminster open this evening. I had a nice chat with an interesting, friendly Gent, not sure if he was the owner or not, the person who served me was polite and efficient and the food was ready in about 7-10 minutes ish and the price was reasonable. I ordered Pollock and chips and a pot of gravy (weird combo I know but I fancied some gravy haha). The Pollock was pretty good, nice flavour, pretty well cooked and the batter was crispy but sadly the chips really let the meal down. They didn’t taste fresh, they tasted stale unfortunately. I can’t explain why, I assumed they were being cooked fresh as I was the only customer at that time but none the less they were stale as if they had been left in the warmer for some time. The reason I have chosen to leave this review is because it seems like such an easy issue to fix. For the cost of a potato or two I feel that it is a false economy to re use old chips. If the chips were fresh every time there would be very few if any bad reviews regarding the chips. Please forgive me Fishminster for a 2 star review but I do hope my comments are taken as they are intended which is constructive and fair.

You would imagine a little more from a fish and chip shop on North St but this was pretty below par. The large cod wasn’t .. neither were the regular chips ( they were a decent portion. The Cod was average in size the batter too smooth , grey and wet and no great flavour. The chips were tasty but this imitation vinegar most places use is useless , no flavour when will they learn so point off for silly vinegar.walk to Argus chippy and see the difference.

Pretty good fish and chip shop.. I had the Pollock and my wife, Cod. Pollock was well cooked in a nice crispy batter, in tasted like standard cod although a bit dry in parts. Cod was nice and succulent and was one of the best. Chips were pretty good as well. Curry sauce tasted good but was to dry and thick. Overall a good meal and we'll definitely be back.

Don't like to give out negative reviews, but waiting nearly 25 minutes for one portion of chips was a little bit silly, regardless of whether it was match day or not (shop was busy but not overly busy..) Visiting as an away fan keen for a quick bite on route to Ashton Gate. £3.50 for a small portion too, which for me is a little steep, but there we are; chips not overly impressive, a bit under cooked perhaps if anything. Disappointing.

The burger was dry and tasteless, there was no sauce on the very dry bun, just dry with some lettuce and some chopped tomato and pepper. The burger had no flavour. The chips were ok. If you wanted sauce you had to pay 80p which is quite steep. Burger was 6.00 and chips 3.50. Very bland food. Wont be visiting for a 2nd time.

I went to get fish and chips this evening, served by a lovely young person and and older man. The fish and chips were delicious, with plenty of sauce! (Thanks team!) However… there was a woman in perhaps her 60s I think the owner. I was waiting for a while so asked for chalk as they had a big chalkboard that looked like anyone could draw in it, I started to draw a fish with a Christmas hat on as the board looked quite gloomy and bleak. The woman came up behind me and told me off for drawing in that bit of the board… (there were no guidelines or instructions). I asked if I could finish my fish and she said she’d just wipe it off anyway and told me to draw in a different part of the board. I did as she had asked and then sat down to wait for my chips… and she came out with a wet cloth and rubbed both fish off. She handled this situation in a terrbible way, rudely and with awful social/customer service skills. A few kinder words by less rude human being would have been plenty.. it’s not rocket science! Anyway. I really hope this lady isn’t rude to her lovely staff.

Been going here since I was at school and it was called pacific, (much better then ) Owner the Middle Eastern lady looks at you like she is a shark who’s hungry and treats her staff like dirt and I go here twice a week so it’s no one off she has a terrible attitude. Business is focused on pure profit no idea of repeat business and if north street has not become such a busy place this business would unlikely last as the fish is size of a small goldfish in a ball of batter and the chips are a case of lucky dip I.e Monday chips might be ok Friday (today they are a mush and it’s a case of wound you like salt and vinegar with your batter and mash potatoes ! Place looks the part but food quality does not match it. Staff are nice beside the owner lady she needs to treat her staff and customers with a bit of respect. Seems like this place is cashing in on this COVID situation by churning out tougher quality food as I know my cod and that’s not cod I put in the bin tonight. This place is Surviving purely on fact that there isn’t another decent option this side of north street to give them competition and up their game. Very disappointing genuine review been going here since I was 7-8yrs of age even before these guys took over and it was owned by the Rodriguez family back then and the previous owners before them who I still remember. Avoid and travel elsewhere and find a quality fish and chip shop somehow and these are rare now hence these places can get away with inflated prices and bad quality.

They used to have good fish pies, so we phoned in advance to check they still do and ordered one as well as haddock and chips. I collected the haddock and some cod peices. The village idiot told me they don't have fish pie, so why she told my mate 20 minutes earlier that they do and then gave him cod peices is a mystery. His cod pieces were ok, but my haddock was so dry and lacking in any kind of meaty taste I sgave up half way. The look of utter confusion at being told we had actually ordered fish pie was priceless. This used to be an excellent fish n chip shop so I thought I’d pop in and buy some for tea on my way home. It was not massively busy but the service was terrible today. The older man serving was really grumpy, disorganised and didn’t have any manners. I waited at least 35 mins for a portion of fish and chips. When they started dishing up a meal for someone who came in ages after me I politely asked if mine would be ready soon as I’d been waiting over half an hour. The man who was cooking tried to dish mine up, but the older lady shouted at him that the fish was hers. He had no idea that I’d also ordered mushy peas and a drink so my food sat there going cold whilst he sorted those out. Meanwhile the lady carried on having a go at him, in front of all the customers. I felt very sorry for him! About 45 mins after entering I left with a very mediocre portion of fish and chips. I don’t think I’ll go back again, it wasn’t a fun experience!

Visited here after the Balloon Fiesta based on reviews here. Wasn't too far away and we could head back to the Midlands easily. While the premises are nice I found the food somewhere between average and good. The food is freshly cooked but despite this it wasn't piping hot, just hot. The chips were not too greasy and a decent portion. The fish batter was crispy, not too heavy. The fish, while fresh was decidedly thin (see the photo I added) and looked like it needed a workout. All things pointed to an epic visit. Poshish website (which had fish pie on the menu - but it had become extinct on our arrival) and nice photos. But all in all was a bit of an anti climax. It was nice to get the food in a cardboard serving box. I almost want to give a fourth star for that. Potential is definitely there to raise the bar, I hope they do.

i used to really rate this place when it opened. their veggie burgers were amazing, and they had a couple of other good veggie options like their spicy mushy pea fritter. their chips were also great and all their sauces home made. service was slow, but that didn't matter as the food was great and reasonably priced.however, over the last few years it's just been getting worse and worse. the prices have increased quite dramatically, portion sizes gone down. their fish are definitely smaller (even though I have heard the owner and kitchen staff argue this with countless customers).veggie burgers have become tasteless. last two times my dad has gone in the fish has been over cooked and both of our chips have been almost raw in the middle.staff are clearly treated badly- I have countless times overheard the manager shouting and shaming staff whilst customers have been in. the staff turnover is very high, so even worse service and no one seems to know what they're doing.manager clearly hates the business, which could be, and has been, so good.real shame.

About the 8th visit. (In a big rush, chip&run situation). So If you order a bag of chips & they have thousands of chips ready, they still make you wait for the 5 orders in front of you. If 3 of those customers order fish or other crazy stuff, the fish does not go into the fat till it is ordered .so 35 minuets later 1 bag of chips. THEY ARE CLEARLY INSANE. Or they think it's hip & yrendy modern PC, or.. so "aspiring middle class", they are wrong it is just BORING. Picture this.. kids in car an hr late for dinner because of traffic, F&C yes. Fishminster ...big mistake 42 minuets Argus would have done it in 10. Seriously I don't want the kids having a further 30 min melt down, or a divorce, or individually wrapped chips & cod cooked separately, or a stroke... Good fish and chips, all very freshly cooked. Can be a bit of a wait to get served at busier times, but its the same in all fish abnd chip shops. Just a shame it's quite expensive!

Possibly the worst service i have seen in a takeaway venue. If you hate it so much, just do something else. Fish over cooked. Chips under cooked.

Fishminster is our local fish and chip shop, and we've had takeaway fish and chips from here before. It's a well known eatery, with nice produce and well cooked meals, they have a good reputation. Our experience yesterday was poor, from the service to the meal itself unfortunately. We ordered 2 meals; a large cod and chips, and a regular and a couple of sides. It was about 8.00 pm and there were 3 people ahead of us, which is about normal. It's never a quick experience at Fishminster as they cook everything fresh, which is fine. So we go in, notice it was very quiet, not the usual buzz in there. We ordered our food and immediately understood why the atmosphere felt a bit flat. The chap serving was unattentive, deadpan, totally disinterested and managed to get through the ordering process with as few words as possible, grunts almost. So, while we wait, in silence, we notice, let's call him Sunny, chatting and laughing with his colleague in the kitchen area. So it occurred to us that it must be the paying public he's got a problem with, not everyone. It was quite embarrassing - as a customer - to watch his other, quite affable personality unfold in the next room. £17.00 and ten minutes later, we receive our order and leave, thanking Sunny for his service, no thank you in return. A short 5 minute drive home and we comment on the poor service on our journey, but more looking forward to our meal. Sadly, on this occassion it was not very nice. Over cooked fish, under cooked chips, and curry sauce not heated up enough so it fell like a blob out of the cup. It's the first time I've ever had a bad experience at Fishminster, but felt that on this occassion they have not even remotely lived up to their reputation in any respect. For a community chip shop who claim to be more than a chip shop, in a family oriented location, I think there needs to be some improvements in service and general attitude.A thoroughly disappointing experience in service alone.

Staff were amazing. Locals are friendly. Definitely flying out of Bristol again. And will be returning soon.

Toilets reeked. Large breakfast was Luke warm. Students sat on stairs making it difficult to get to the usual upstairs spoons bogs.

Came for a comedy night, wasn’t sure what to expect but really good set up, good lively pub downstairs serving all the classics and great pizzas and some great local beers (including Bristol Beer Factory Milk Stout which is excellent) plus packed out comedy gig upstairs, really nice crowd and top notch comedy. On weekday events they have pre event special of pizza plus a drink for £15 which is pretty good value. Only slight improvement would be putting a second server on bar upstairs before the gig started but queue went down pretty quickly.

We had a lovely lunch here at the George Inn. The food was scrumptious and customer service was amazing. Claire, Sally and Heidi were lovely.
