Food is always very good and at a fair price. Main reason for writing review is to request they change the toilet seat in the men's, it's disgusting. So old, not good if a child wants to use the toilet. It's going to cost less than a meal bill for two. Thanks.

A fantastic lunch! The Fishermans Rest is so warm and welcoming. All of the staff that served us were really friendly and attentive. Despite it being very busy, we didn't have to wait long for service or food. We had a selection of starters and mains which were beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. Thank you, we will definitely be back with the rest of the family.

Sadly we had a bad experience here. We placed our order for 3 meals and after 35 minutes we hadn't received our meal I went to enquire. I was advised that there had been a delay in the order getting to the kitchen and someone should have told us. When they checked we we told it should only be about 5 minutes. Closer to 10 minutes later we received our meal and although my wife and her aunt were happy with theirs my meal was only warm but after waiting so long for it I chose to just eat it instead of waiting any longer. My wife went to ask for ketchup and was told by 2 members of staff she would have to wait wgmhich she was not too happy with. We had coffees and when asked about our food I told the waitress and she kindly apologised and offered a complimentary drink but we were ready to leave by this time so declined. I am not saying I wouldn't go there again but first impressions last and I feel disappointed with my first experience here.

Been to the fisherman’s rest many many times and the staff have always been lovely and attentive. Would just like to say I was present for the scene Diane T and her parter caused yesterday evening and I’ve never encountered such entitlement in my life, and as a fellow present customer would advise that her recent review be thoroughly disregarded. Here’s why… After being informed upon arrival that the place is not in fact dog friendly indoors, they decided to stay anyway and eat out doors. They eat full plates right to the last fork full or so. I know this cause I was hungry and glancing at their food with jealousy. After a lovely evening sitting next to them, their huge lovely dog being adorned with affection by staff and other customers at the welcome of Diane and her partner, they ask for a manager to complain to. Unfortunately there was a delay in change over so a manager was not to be in till shortly after. Not ideal no, but the large team of staff are working well and a girl comes out to take charge of the situation and receive the complaint. Unfortunately all she received was not just a valid complaint or two, but what shortly became a laundry list irrelevant nit picks delivered in a way I can only describe as verbal abuse. Complaints about the meals they’d just fully eaten (which is surprisingly contradicted in their review). Diane’s partner blatantly lies to the tune of “6 chips on me plate” which there was definitely an abundance of as I am witness. They then complain about the fact google says they’re in the dog friendly category, and while they are VERY dog friendly, it’s just not indoors and the girl politely explains that a Google review with the phrase “dog friendly” has been left and google have categorised them that way against the will of the pub, with no solid way to rectify it. It’s a Google issue. Diane seems to not understand this as it is explained twice and still doesn’t seem to understand, or just didn’t listen. They then decide at this point in the evening that they are now uncomfortable with the fact a staff member took a photo of their beautiful dog earlier on. I can concede that if no permission was asked this could be considered not totally appropriate and just a simple flaw in judgment from a dog lover. The complaints continue and pile on in excess to the girl being passionately berated now that there is a typo on the menu, which Diane and her partner had quite a light hearted chuckle at 15 minutes earlier. Now this loyal staff member is having a voice raised to her about a menu typo, and while she tried to apologise on behalf of the pub, she endearingly addresses Diane as “my love”. Reprehensible, I know 🙄 The couple pile on aggressively for another minute and the staff member now probably a bit bewildered and flustered addresses Diane again as “my love” and Diane fires back “don’t call me ‘my love, I’m not you’re love’” They have made this whole ordeal very audible and are bringing the whole business down on this one staff members head for every other customer in the garden area to hear very clearly, and at this point seem to just be enjoying the power they are wielding over someone and call the staff member a “silly cow” and the staff members shocked at what she’d just been called leaves the situation. While another staff member comes out to investigate why one of her staff is upset and gets the full brunt of Diane and her Partner, now so infuriated at the picture of their dog that was taken that they falsely equate it and now thinks it’s acceptable to try and take a photo of this staff member. Clearly shocked, the staff member is forced to snatch a phone to avoid being photographed. She ultimately remains calm and places the phone back down on the table more or less instantly, as I or any reasonable person might do when a stranger tries to photograph you. Before being asked to leave by staff and now multiple other customers Diane says “I’ll do what I want, I’ve paid for the privilege” Unfortanely Diane you already HAVE the privilege to be able to eat out and have food prepared and brought to you by other hard working people. And you have the full right to complain about what you pay for not meeting your expected standards. And you have the right to leave a review here, which you could have just gone home and done. You do not have the “privilege” nor the right to verbally abuse and publicly embarrass a hardworking young individual so belligerently while they’re trying their best to help you have a nice night. Having stated twice that you “used to be a landlady” I would expect that you know a lot better and do a lot better. My service was as friendly and as efficient as it has always been and would like to applaud the staff for doing so well in this widely unpredictable display I’ve rarely ever seen the likes of. And again I would kindly advise that Diane’s review would be ignored if you want an accurate idea about the Fisherman’s rest. One of the best pubs in southport!

Avoid if you have a dog even though it says dog friendly, staff condescending when we complained, staff taking pictures of my family and dog, when confronted I said I'd take a pic of said staff member who twice tried to snatch my phone from my hand I'm 66 yrs old the staff member 20ish disrespectful, staff member who was aledged standing in for manager this was a Saturday night !! Kept calling me "my love" despite me saying numerous occasions I'm not your love , then calling her a silly cow I was the one wrong. Oh yes try snatching my phone x2 that's not wrong. Avoid, food lovely pitty about the staff

I’ve eaten here before and the food was excellent, hence me returning. My friend had the liver which she thoroughly enjoyed, and I had the fish and chips. The fish was piping hot, as it should be, but there had been no effort made to drain the oil that it had been cooked in. This meant it was very greasy and not enjoyable. It was very busy at the time so may have been an oversight, but nevertheless not nice.

I can see why booking in advance is recommended. The Fisherman’s Rest was rocking!.. busy with diners & the FA Cup semi final at penalties! On a Sunday afternoon. The staff were very polite & efficient service. The food was lovely hearty traditional pub food. All courses were served in a timely manner. With each meal cooked to perfection & enjoyed by each member of our family. We will definitely be returning & recommend the Fisherman’s Rest to friends & Family. Well done to all the staff front of house & behind the scenes. 🙌

As usual, the place was very busy but the staff seem to always find time to be pleasant and polite. Our food, chilli con carne and ham & eggs was delicious and the prices are reasonable. Always a pleasure, thank you.

Love this pub and we look forward to going . It’s a proper pub with great value , good quality food . This is still the case . The menu is varied and the 4 of us enjoyed what we had . Whilst I appreciate pib habits have changed post covid , if a web site states open till 11.30 then you do not expect last orders at 9.50 !!!! I’m glad our reservation was early Service was acceptable but nothing special Certainly no callback to check on food . We would go again but it’s certainly lost some of its charm

I was highly disappointed with the barmaids attitude as the booking phone was constantly ringing and not being answered I politely asked if she could answer the phone I was very abruptly told not to advise her how she carries out her job One of the reasons I bring this up is one of my siblings has been trying to book a table for my mum for the last three weekends and hasn't been able to get through as the phone doesn't get answered It's unfortunate as the establishment has very good reviews

Enjoyed another nice meal here, our table wasn't particularly good it was in a corner by a fire exit.Food was good 1 prawn skewer & 1 baked camembert, then both had gammon, cooked perfectly.

Food was amazing . I had lemon sole with new potatoes & veg. Hubby had Sirloin, cooked perfectly. Nice wine , great service & reasonably priced. We will definitely be back

Booked a table for six people a month in advance. After we arrived and had sat at our allocated table for about 10 minutes the waitress asked if we would move as they had double booked. We reluctantly moved and were shown to a table for FOUR which all SIX of us had to squeeze round. An hour and a half after our booking time the other booked party arrived and sat at our original table - however there were only FOUR of them 😕😕. To say we were a bit cheesed off, as well as fobbed off, is an understatement! Never got a proper explanation or apology - plus some of our party are regular customers. Very disappointed!

Have visited here on a couple of occasions and have always found it pleasant, with good food. I had the potted shrimps, then the Jambalaya..... it was like a mountain. My wife had steak & chips (as did my father in law) who both agree this was well above pub standard. 3 starters, 3 mains, couple of drinks just over £60! (I have to say though, we did buy drinks premeal and paid for them) Cant wait to go again.

Come here quite often. Birthdays , get togethers etc. Always enjoy coming here. Staff very friemdly & attentive. Food excellent !!!

The place is always busy and has a good atmosphere. The staff are friendly and helpful and the food is delicious and moderately priced. The smoked haddock risotto was excellent and my lambs liver, cooked through, was delicious. If only they would answer the phone I would rate the Fisherman's Restaurant as Excellent.

My husband and father in law went out for our tea 4.30. All I can say is the fish chips and mushy peas were apsalutley excellent the fish was fried to perfection 👌 I would recommend 100%

The Fisherman’s is a great pub with excellent and delicious food at a very reasonable price. The staff are wonderful and charming and look after you all the time. I’m a regular there and do appreciate the effort that goes into the pub.

Fantastic food, fantastic staff and a welcoming atmosphere. We have been coming to the Fisherman's for over 6 years and the food has always been excellent. Whether its for lunch or an evening meal there is a wide variety of fresh food to choose from all cooked o your liking. A great place to go as a couple, with friends or as a family.

Not dog friendly. Dog are only allowed in when food if not on. Food is all day everyday 12-9. So dogs are allowed in for 2hrs at the end of the day. Very misleading and extremely disappointing.

It's not really dog friendly if you have to eat outside or can only bring your dog inside when others have finished eating 🤔

The layout is fully covid compliant.Ribs and cheesy garlic bread provide a perfect start to your meal, as expected, they don't disappoint.Mains included two of the fabulous specials. The lamb rump was perfectly cooked and extremely tasty. Whilst the Massaman Beef Curry was absolutely superb, subtle spices creating a delicious dish.Make sure you get yourself booked in for a wonderful experience. As ever great value for money, the highest standards for food and service. A real gem in the crown for Southport.

My husband and I had lunch here yesterday and it was superb. I had the pate to start followed by the smoked haddock risotto. My husband had the garlic mushrooms and the pork and there wasn’t a crumb of food left on either of our plates. Piping hot, home cooked food. The atmosphere was lovely and the staff all friendly and happy to have a chat. We didn’t feel rushed at all. I can honestly say we will be back very soon and would highly recommend

Absolutely the best pub to eat at in Southport!!Last night we decided that the only place we could go before the imminent lockdown was The Fisherman's Rest.We all had the amazing salt and pepper ribs for starters, quite simply the best ribs I've ever had at a pub!I decided on the Red Thai King Prawn curry which was delicious, subtle flavours and presented beautifully. Another choice was the vegetarian burger which went down extremely well with my daughter. We can also thoroughly recommend the chicken tikka masala, as good as any Indian restaurant The staff are always so welcoming and service is of the highest standards, attentive and efficient.Literally counting down the days until the end of this latest lockdown.

Went in for late lunch with the family and they were brill. Food was lovely and the atmosphere was cosy.

Had the pleasure of visiting this gem on a recent visit to Birkdale.Lovely friendly relaxed atmosphere, whils still complying to the government rules.The staff were lovely and helpful.Food was of a very high standard and the Sunday roast was amazing, thickly sliced beef that was cooked to perfection and the gravy was especially good.My partner had beef stroganoff on our second visit and said it was the best he ever had.Would highly recommend this place and will definitely be a returning customer.

The first thing to strike you when you walk in is The Fish is a lot bigger than it looks from the outside, very light and airy and very easy to keep you distance, good range of well kept beers and the young staff are helpful, friendly and very efficient. Good choice of dishes on the menu none of which will break the bank, started with Black pudding for myself and Prawn cocktail for my wife, both very fresh, very tasty and for a starter just the right portion size, to follow Beef and Ale pie for myself and Lamb shank for the good lady, both meals cooked to perfection and really could not fault anything. So is The Fish fine dining? Well no but if you are looking for some of the best honest to goodness Pub Grub in Southport, dont waste your time looking around, just come to The Fish, i know we will.

As always, the food and service were excellent, but, oh dear, someone should tell them about keeping people safe during these difficult times. We would have felt more comfortable if they could have put a few safety measures in place. Why not remove at least one table near the door, have people entering and exiting from separate doors and have the staff wearing face shields. My wine glass even had lipstick on the run so I really didn't feel as if safety was a main priority. I can understand that we all want to go and and enjoy ourselves, but please let us know you are taking this safety issue seriously. Alcohol gel available on entry is not really enough. Will we return? No. Not worth the risk.

Called here for lunch today.Most tables were booked as it is so.popular but we found a table.Food as usual was excellent....piping hot and well presented.Ed and the staff here are always very welcoming and friendly. Another visit on the cards not too far away.

My wife and I called in today with our daughter to celebrate our anniversary and as always we were not disappointed , my wife and daughter ordered from the menu the dish called Jambalaya and I had the full english, it was really good. You would think that in these days of the hospitality industry struggling , the temptation may be to cut down on quality or quantity, but neither happened, could not finish it all, we felt safe and had brilliant service, in these uncertain days I hope this is one business that survives it all and thrives.

Overall not a great experience..we felt very rushed..I understand the present 2 hour slots but we arrived right on time but had to wait 25 minutes for service..again we were leaving on time but kept being reminded by the landlord..there were 10 of us so not a cheap bill..food was ok

One of the smallest pubs we've been to,social distancing and hand hygiene in operation,Sat outside overlooking the Lake,very pleasent,nice staff.

First visit to our local in 4 months as with underlying conditions have avoided eating out. Party of 4 bookEd by my son and his partner for lunch. Felt very safe on entering, bar area clear and was directed to our table promptly which had correct social distancing measures in place. Food delicious as usual and staff as always very courteous. This is a very popular pub. The food is very good, well cooked 'pub grub'. Beers are well kept and there's plenty of choice. Staff are very friendly.Unfortunately Coronavirus precautions were sadly lacking. The entrance is a bottle neck by the end of the bar waiting area to be seated and the loos. People were literally brushing past us from all directions as we waited to be seated. Staff weren't wearing masks - even when bringing food out. There was no evidence of any precautions at the bar. Table cleaning was nothing special. Essentially, it was just business as usual and we felt very vulnerable and uncomfortable. People can make their own decisions but we won't be returning any time soon.

Another year another visit. The service very good, the food excellent, the prices very reasonable. No wonder it’s always busy. They have got it right.

Staff excellent, food excellent, venue excellent. Everything is right about this pub. We had lunch on a Wednesday at the one table not occupied or reserved, staff were attentive and professional beer and food was ace. A must visit.

Visited about 2pm for a late lunch. Repeat trip as its one of our favourite places when in Southport.Ate outside, pleasant day and cod goujon sandwiches with salad and chips were delicious.Will return next time in town.Felt safe and lots of distance between tables.

The Best Pub Food in Southport, Fabulous staff, nothing too much trouble for them, real friendly atmosphere. Been coming here for 14 years yet to have a bad meal. Almost next door to Caravan Club site which is perfect but lots of locals who make you feel welcome.Bill n Gill Evans

After a long lock-down we travelled South to meet family and had booked a meal here, largely in part due to the reviews, because none of us knows Southport, we only choose Southport because it was roughly half-way between us.The food, was excellent, plentiful & really good priced as well, when we were here, it was table service only and every second table was unused, so there was plenty of space between tables.I really can't fault the food nor service and if ever we are in this neck of the woods again, I certainly will try and make sure we pop in again.

Just an update as a regular customer, the Fish is back and running as well as ever.Plenty of room and spacing, with the normal menu back in action, there’s a straightforward sanitizer and track and trace.The food is as good as ever!Ed, Jill and the staff are the best hosts ever.

Been in 4 times since re-opening and no issues at all Social distancing is in place still got decent beers on tap, Food available good quality and prices as ever glad to be getting back to "normal" will be there again tomorrow and looking forward to it.

Myself and my husband dined here last night. We had booked and we're glad we did. It was busy despite Covid 19. Distancing was in place and we felt very comfortable. For staters my husband had the garlic mushrooms which werelovely (well I had to try them for this review ). I had the homemade pate which came with warm toast and a lovely dressed salad. For mains hubby had chicken and black pudding in peppercorn sauce, which he said was delicious. I had pork loin with stilton and caramelised onions, the pork was very tender and also delicious. Hubby had a pint of lime and soda and a pint of lager, I had 2 large glasses of red wine and the total cost was £46. The service was excellent and we were well looked after. Thank you ❤️

We have used the Fishermans rest during the last four years of having short breaks in Southport. This time we had booked a table for two separate nights as the food is always fab and thinking we wouldn't be able to just walk in. On our first visit it was obvious that they had tried hard to follow government guidelines, with regards to reopening, but in terms of staff and customers this was sadly lacking. There were two entrances but only one was being used for in and out and our table was next to the condiments so the staff were continually right next to us. It just made us uncomfortable and the food, while nice , was nowhere near the quality of our previous visits. Needless to say we cancelled our second booking with much disappointment.

I visited today with my family for a Sunday roast and it was amazing as always. Great to be back in the pub! The pub is looking fantastic and with all the new precautions in place it’s still as welcoming as it’s always been

I like this place because it is good for all the family. Good basic menu and some interesting specials. Husband likes it because there is a good choice of well kept beers.

Had very good lunch here , very nice pub food as is usually the case here. The prices are reasonable and the service is excellent. Absolutely no complaints .

Good family place, food is very reasonable, place is fairly clean with a old pub type feel. Meat pie comes with a top but no bottom, loads of meat and gravy but surprisingly meat was very dry. Scampi as good if not better than most pubs. Service friendly and lots of smiles. Busy and nice atmosphere

I was recommended here for a family Sunday roast. The staff were super helpful changing the table to accommodate a wheelchair. However, the roast dinner was not very good. It was presented as I'd imagine a 'oap residential home lunch' would look (no offence meant). Thete was zero effort with there veg, just boiled and put on the plate (we expect so much more these days), 2 roast potatoes and a Yorkshire that was as flat as a pancake which I'd be embarrassed to serve even at a family lunch at home.To top this off, the gravy had lamb juices which I cannot beat when opting for the beef. Or at least offer the gravy in a jug so customers have the choice.Overall, really poor and not what you should expect when out for a treat.

Over the last 6 weeks we've been to this wonderful 3 times for meals with friends and families.Every visit has seen us have fabulous service and the quality of the food couldn't be faulted.As ever the choice on the amazing specials board were irresistible. My favourite was a wonderful fish dish that was exquisitely presented and tasted divine. You can not get a better meal in Southport for the price and standards are always so high.Keep up all the good work at The Fish.

Very good beautiful fish were the chips home made no I don’t think so but the fish was great. My partner had steak pie which was great and our grandchild the pizza off children’s menu very enjoyable. Please make real chips makes all the difference to home cooking experience

Sunday lunch is excellent , I was visiting my 94 year old father who lives in Birkdale, we were both really impressed with the quality of food served and the friendliness of the staff. We will certainly be back on my next visit.

We live locally (Birkdale,) and eat here fairly regularly.This is just a quick little plug to say that my partner (who is a vegetarian,) and I had a delicious meal this afternoon.The Cheese and Onion Pie dish tasted great, and absolutely warmed the cockles on a crisp winter afternoon.I selected the Sea Bream from the specials menu. Served with Lemongrass and Turmeric rice and mixed greens, I could have eaten it twice!!A hearty congratulations to everyone on the team at 'The Fish.' You did it again!!!

We have been going to this pub for years. All the food has been brilliant but we usually opt for the fish and chips. The last 2 times we have been here we have noticed the portions have drastically reduced and the fish seemed over battered and a bit dry. It’s a shame because this place has held its reputation for many years. The staff and the service and the cleanliness of the pub have not changed and are top notch. Unfortunately it’s not now my go to place for fish and chips.

The food is good, reasonable pricing and service excellent. Friendly pub grub at its best. small car park but plenty of parking near by.

As last year we ate twice close together: a Saturday in November on our way back from a Hoghton Players Gilbert and Sullivan performance and a Sunday in December after taking part in the pub's carol singing that raises money for the local hospice. Both meals were excellent. On both occasions I went for the fish special, and on the second, Sue had the turkey dinner. On both occasions I relished the choice of good live beers and Sue the good range of wines. Service was good, and we felt well looked after on the mad busy Sunday. And the specials board desserts are genuinely home made and always delicious.

Four of us had lunch here including two Christmas dinners.We all enjoyed the food,no complaints there. My main gripe is staff who do not collect plates once customers have finished eating. Two waitresses were back and forth bringing items to other tables and then they went back empty handed. No glance round to see if they could take back glasses or plates. When I was a waitress many years ago, it was drummed into the staff to make sure diners weren't left looking at congealing food on plates. Shame, I really thought this situation let them down. In fact we got that fed up that one of our group took a couple of plates back and asked for the others to be taken away.

Another visit to this great pub/restaurant..NEVER had a poor meal here. All freshly cooked, worth a little time waiting. Great atmosphere, friendly staff and top quality dining..thanks again.

Came here on the 9th December with my girlfriend and her granny . First time we had been was really busy for a Monday thankfully we booked . Good food , excellent service . Basic food done well at a very good price we will be back

Lovely pub in great spot with excellent team and owners . Great for food and drinks - a hidden gem . Would recommend and return

We visited here as a family and had a lovely meal. My hubbie and I had the lamb shanks with mash and they were tender and delicious and my daughter had the macaroni cheese which she said was really tasty. I had the sticky toffee pudding which was also lovely but more like a toffee sponge with custard. The raspberry and white chocolate roulade was delicous so was the jam roly poly. The staff were pleasant, welcoming and efficient. We would recommend and will be back.

It has come to my notice that some people come out for a drink and sociable chit chat and a meal. But finding on leaving some way after they leave the a stopped by the bobbies in blue.Which i find not very nice after you have enjoyed a pleasant couple of hours. It is obvious that someone is dropping people in it which i find malicious beyond belief.IN THIS DAY AND AGE

Ed and Jill run this place brilliantly, the food is excellent, the beer and drinks are superb!

Sunday roast meal good as usual but less impressed with gammon choice. Meat was Ok, if a little on the undercooked side, unlike the dried up tomato and onion rings which looked like they had been sitting under a grill for a couple of hours.

The place doesn’t really look like a pub from the outside, a single story which is unusual. Decent size car park at the side. The inside is then very typically pub style with a bar area with some tables which are mainly provided for drinking being high with raised chairs. Two raised eating areas and a back area. Although the areas are separate it is still open plan and appears spacious. Order food at the bar and it is brought to your table, plenty on the menu with light bites, main meals. We had fish and chips which was a good portion, well cooked with thin crisp batter, nice chips and mushy peas. We paid just under ten pounds for the meal which I thought was good value. Pleasant staff and very efficient. Would I visit again, yes I would a good experience.

Great place to eat food exceptional I had tuna which was delicious my daughter had gluten-free prawn curry with rice and chips great portions and also great price second visit can’t wait for my third visit staff very attentive and very pleasant go that extre mile to please well done

Joined our friends on Sunday for a catch up. Our table was booked for 4pm but they needed the table for another party at 6.pm. No problem. We were served promptly by our waitress who was lovely, as were all the staff,and when our Roast Beef Dinner came it was delicious and plentiful. We were given extra gravy without having to ask and it was very tasty. Sweets were served and we all had coffee. The two children in our party were impressed as well. All done before 6 and we weren’t rushed out. Perfect ..Haven’t been before but will certainly be returning. Great place and highly recommended.

Return visit while staying on nearby touring caravan site for weekend.
