Horrendous service. 20p for a small sachet - poor

You can order food through the online screens and pay by card. They brought the food to our table. Can't complain about my food. it's standard battered sausage and chips. Junk food at its finest. Everyone's food in my group was fine for us. We sat outside in the sunshine. Toilets were questionable, to be expected on Brighton beach front. The chips aren't original style chippy, but was so starving they had to do.

Well where do I begin,I can't bring myself to give even a 1 star rating for the food,ordered chicken,which at least was cooked...just...and chips...well they were not cooked may aswell of given me a raw potato and told to eat that...so I took em back,I was given replacement chips,and my god they wasn't cooked either,not even the seagulls wud eat em and they eat anything...absolute disgrace,I even made sure I told people not to waste their money on such disgusting food, never will I eat there again total joke u shud be ashamed

It was surprisingly good despite all the negative reviews. Only thing missing was no lemon to squeeze on the fish. Other than that the food and service was good.

Thought it was quite nice, not sure why all these reviews are so low. I got haddock, chips and peas and the fish was tasty, chips were crispy and the peas were good. It's open late too so a good option if u need a snack along the seafront when nothing else open. Bloke working the counter was friendly and had my order out quick. I'd go back again.

One of the worst places to eat, staff are rude, waited 40 mins for half our order and another 20 mins for the rest. Food came out greasy and tasteless (fishcakes), didn't eat it as it was so poor quality. Expensive tasteless food, don't bother!

Waiting for ages for my fish and chips. The food was not tasty. It was dry and chewy. We ended up binning it. A waste of money. I will not come back.

Food was overpriced and overcooked, chips were either triple fried or yesterday's chips refried. Asked for a steak & kidney pie and got a dry minced beef and onion. Had to get our own tea as only one person was working the floor.

If you're planning on going to the Karen Diner, don't bother... just go to the West Pier fish and chips instead. When sitting down waiting for our food, the waitress constantly came up to us trying to give us the wrong order and then tried to get us to check our ticket to prove it wasn't our order. Finally our food arrived, the chips looked as if someone had already chewed them for us. The vingar tasted like water 'with added colouring'. Half way through our meal we thought a fight was about to break out between the two waitress (better than any drama I've seen on TV). Definitely will not be coming here again! Disgusting service, horrid food and dirty environment.

Absolutely disgusting. Tables aren't clean. Birds swooping down on left over food that staff won't clear from plates. Chips are disgusting and the food is a 45 minute wait. Lady at the counter calling numbers and serving is rude and has abysmal temper. Yelling at customers and her staff are not polite either. Several people have requested refunds because they cannot keep up with the orders. Would avoid. How it's allowed to be open is beyond me.

This was a horrible experience, the staff were not very friendly, the food was not good - very greasy, and uncooked chips. Also had a solid curry sauce. Even the vinegar was not vinegar it said it is condiment with colours, they charge extra for ketchup or tartare !!? We were charged twice for our food due to a problem with the machine and the staff would refuse to look at our face when we tried to ask for support regarding this. Definitely don’t recommend.

I wish i could give 0 stars. Charged me twice for my food and it was really really expensive for what you get. Greasy uncooked chips with awful battered cod. Rude staff. People were waiting at least one and a half hours to get their food. Also, asked for refund for second transaction and refused to give my refund. They would say, wait for your order and leave it. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE.

1 and half hour wait to sub par fish and chips. Clearly overwhelmed, front of house doesn't follow order number to distribute orders. Missing a lot of orders and doesn't know what they're doing.

best fish and chips in my opinion, they serve Plaice which I highly recommend, it's full of flavour better than Cod and is quite large and fresh, served with chunky chips in a quiet restaurant, this is my go to place fish any time! highly recommend

Well nigh on £30 fir fish and chips and calamari & chips and 2 cans, walked across road to a bench and the fish was ok, the chips barely cooked, and hard, the calamari was like some sort of plasticine & rubber compound, expensive as on sea front but the quality really was dire, a pigeoneven refused to eat the calamri, when tire to bits for it

Unfortunately, i didn't read the reviews before I ordered something. I had to fight with my stomach after eating here... food was greasy and fade...

I paid £25 for sausage, chips, and curry sauce, but what I received was oven chips, a greasy sausage, and watery curry sauce. The quality was unacceptable. To make matters worse, the staff were rude and the restaurant was in a dirty condition. I expect much better service and food for that price.

Great customer service and friendly Staff anytime I visit the shop and the fish/chips are also very fresh and well prepared. Best I have tasted in Brighton.

I had a pizza with chicken and sweetcorn. The chicken was the packets of sandwich filling and was slapped on the pizza cold, the centre of the pizza was cold and did not taste good. My partner had battered sausage and chips, the batter tasted off and the portion size was horrific for the price. Those 2 items with some ketchup cost £29.50

Ok… that was bad… how is it I check most restaurants on google but didn’t this time as it was near our hotel and simple…. 🤯 I may as well have let the kids have an extra £30 worth of 2Ps on the pier as I’d have been throwing my money away too! Awful.

It's my duty to man kind to protect you. Do not eat here and starve yourself it's safer! The chips were crispy reheated nothingness! The tables were cleaned with what could only be imagined as the same cloth that had wiped the toilets and the dull mirror to the rear. You serve yourself on a screen that's been wiped with the as above mentioned cloth! Visit if you want cronic belly ache!

I wish we'd checked out the reviews before we stopped by for a bag of chips. Expecting hot, crispy chips we sadly got cool, soft chips, which were cooked from frozen and were not fresh. At £4.50 per portion they were overpriced and very disappointing. 😒

The pizza base was burnt, but somehow the sauce and cheese on top weren't cooked enough. It tasted bad, it looked bad. The sausages were absolutely fine. The person behind the counter was nice. I'd recommend avoiding.

A large group of us popped in on Christmas Day. We just had some drinks and chips and were greeting by a lovely lady and young man. The hospitality from them both was amazing, they were so kind and friendly and really accommodating to the big group

There is a reason why most reviews are 1. I recently visited this place. Ordered cod and chips separately - both put in a single box and there were barely many chips - extremely over priced. I asked for sauce and was told to pay separately - so I ate it dry as I refused to tap my card again for some pennies. I managed to expense my food for work anyway so didn’t lose out. Over-priced food and small portions. I’d go to the Hilton next door and get some decent food instead.

Visited here today with my family (early Jan) and had a meal. Reasonably priced for the fish and chips and the gentleman serving was really helpful and positive. Food was really nice and fresh.

We had cod & chips and the chicken burger to takeaway. Chips very tasty, chicken nice and chunky and the cod had a very good batter. Friendly staff. Did the job and did it well 👍🏻

Read the reviews before visiting and should have avoided but was very short on time and it was convenient. One man trying to operate sit in and take away on his own. Doors wide open, restaurant freezing cold. Service very slow, cold chips and first time I've had cod that is pink! Everything worn out and dirty. Avoid at all costs.

Thank you for providing some wonderful meals for myself and a very valued friend. The server was incredibly attentive and provided us with very sturdy wooden forks to enjoy our exquisite meals. Every table is equipped with everything a customer would require, salt, vinegar and chairs. The time was midnight, doors open, rain coming in sideways, meal in their restaurant with the sea lapping up on the Brighton shore, perfect!

this place was a really surprise. I bought cod and chips and a battered sausage. All of it was bordering on inedible (I include a picture of what I left on the plate, I was starving so I had to eat some of it, but, as you can see 80% of it is still on the plate). It is an insult to Brighton to have fish and chips like this. And an owner who seems to be (from reading his responses on here) in complete denial about the quality of it. The fish WAS NOT FRESH, it was old, leathery, watery and tasteless, the chips were dry equally tasteless, obviously not freshly cooked and the oil was either way over its useful date or drained out of the bottom of a combine harvester. The only mildly palatable thing was the sausage, which I ate to stave off the hunger, but honestly, you could used it as a riot baton. I should have read the other reviews before coming, but I honestly thought the place had to be decent with such a prime position on the Brighton seafront right next to the Grand Hotel…….If I was the hotel I would put a sign in the lobby warning people not to go here, as it will completely ruin your visit to the seaside ! Utterly gobsmacked that a place like this still exists in 2024, fish and chips is such an easy thing to get right……I almost feel this place needs applauding for managing to mess up the English national dish so thoroughly. I’m not sure what the owners name is, but I appeal to you sir: go out and try other fish and chips in the area, you seem to be in denial about your food and frequently use the argument that people ‘finish their plates’ as a reason for calling them ‘liars’, my friend, I assure you : I’m not a liar, and include a photo of what I left on my plate. I’m actually trying to help, and I think the vast majority of reviewers on here are doing that too. You’ve got a GREAT location, why ruin it by putting food on the plate like this ? ?

the oiliest food i’ve ever had, the oil was literally dripping, £1.20 extra for dips??? dips being basic ketchup and mayonnaise. no flavour whatsoever, not worth the price at all, don’t recommend. re - cooked and drenched in oil is NOT the same thing. Mayo and Ketchup are not the same and secondly it is expensive when it is mostly free in most restaurants💀

I would give zero if I could. Absolutely rubbish food. They thickened a tiny portion of fish with too much dough. Seemingly tricking people like this and charge £14.95 for this dish. When we complained about it, the staff said this is how the fish is supposed to be. Definitely not recommended. Don’t go there!

I really enjoyed our meal. The fish and chips were fresh and tasty, the service was amazing and the general atmosphere was very friendly and welcoming. Carol at the front went above and beyond and was very lovely, really enjoyed the whole experience and would definitely return!

Unbelievable prices, chips tasted stale and cold and the fish was overcooked, extremely oily and batter was hard a pebble from the sea front. Response to the owners comment- You clearly are looking at the wrong plate because I left 90% of my plate uneaten, even the 10% I did eat, I was forced too as my partner paid a huge price and had a 3 hour drive back home. You have 2 star rating so it’s clear many others feel the same. I do have photos also, I chose not to attached them to save more damage to your star rating.

The only reason it’s got a star is because the chips were ok. I’ve never regretted ordering food soon after sitting down. The place was filthy. The floor and tables looked like they hadn’t been cleaned for a while. I tried too order a kids fish and chip, they only do kids veggie sausage or chicken nugget meals?!??? In a fish and chip shop?!??? Sat down and then the food came. Wow , my pie came cold. They took it off and I heard them say put it in the microwave?!? My wife and daughter had fish and chips, the fish when opened looked light yellow. The gravy I ordered was so thick it was inedible and had a thick skin on top. The curry sauce was full of oil and had to be stirred for a few minutes to even resemble a sauce. Sorry but I would tell people to avoid this place as it needed up coasting me near on £70 for the worst meal I can remember

Most definitely, the worst fish and chips I've ever had. The cod was oozing oil and was mushy in the middle instead of flaky. Chips were not fresh and barely warm.

The worst fish and chips I have EVER been served. Nasty burnt smell and taste to the batter, and to the chips. As far from "chippy chips" as you can get. Fish very watery and the Plaice had a very odd taste - needless to say most of it was left on the plate. Onion rings and garlic mushrooms were ok. Disappointed to say the least!

Nipped in here on one of the hottest days this year as I was working Nextdoor. Purchased myself two cans of fizzy drink £1.80 each but the best part they were multipack cans which I thought was a piss take for the price. The bloke behind the counter his English was very poor so a lot of pointing was exchanged. Lots of seating area however I was just in/out.

I would give 0 stars if I could this was the worst fish and chip of my life. - the fish was WET despite being £9 - the tartare sauce was infact GARLIC MAYO - the battered sausage was a CUMBERLAND sausage - the chips were home style FREEZER chips Need i say more, this made me close to tears. However the waitress doing a cameo of trisha paytas was a delight

Ordered chicken nuggets and chips, chicken nuggets were really nice, not too oily or non-chickenish. Chips were not awful but not good. Tasted as if they were oven-cooked and previously frozen. Woman behind the counter was lovely - fantastic customer service

There is too much oil, and it smells bad. Fish and fries are not cooked properly. And inside, there is a skin with a lot of fish scales. It was too expensive.

Chicken quarter - dry and small, like sawdust with oil. The lady charged more for the set, and what's more, there's crap on the tables, and those who can keep up will eat the seagulls because the staff has time... The prices don't match the quality. STONES FROM THE BEACH HAVE MORE LIFE AND SOUL THAN THIS CHICKEN AND ALL THE REST. FIRST AND LAST TIME.

The service don't clean tables, so seagulls do the mess when you try to eat. It looks no good. Second thing, the food is disgusting and very expensive. Too much fat and VERY VERY VERY dry chicken. Never again.

The food was by far the worst sausage and chips I’ve had. I wished I went next door to the vegan one and I ain’t vegan!! £20 quid for tiny portion and it was as if it had been left to go cold and quickly dipped in the oil to warm through just enough. I didn’t finish the food and didn’t think the seagulls would approve so left it.

My wife and I got our lunch from here yesterday and she had cod and chips and I had battered sausage and chips the first problem was ordering it on a screen only to find out that it had run out of receipt paper and the rude man behind the counter shouted and eventually ignored my Wife after he refused to give her our already paid for food because she didn’t have a receipt my wife then repeatedly tried to show him her bank statement on her phone app to prove she indeed had paid but he refused to speak to her eventually a lovely Lebanese lady understood he was in fact Lebanese and spoke to him and eventually he gave her the food he forgot the chips and she had to go back and we tried to eat it but it was the most tasteless disgusting food I ever have had from a chip shop if the owner wants to keep defending he’s shop like on all of the previous comments he will be going out of business in the near future he can live in denial all he likes but at the end of the day he won’t be there for much longer I didn’t know all of this was going on until my wife eventually got back with the so called food and I had to move my car straight away he was lucky I didn’t go in to order the food!

I went to this restaurant with my family for lunch and was extremely disappointed. The chips were frozen chips not freshly made like in most chip shops, and weren't cooked well. The cod was OK but overcooked. The prices were extortionate. Don't waste your time at this place awful. Also the portions are extremely small.

Staff were arguing amongst themselves. Fish was overcooked. Saveloy was cold. Gherkins were tiny. Kept repeating the order as she kept forgetting. Oh, and mushy peas were disgusting. Chips were average.

Absolutely horrendous—possibly the worst chip shop I have ever visited. The entire experience was dreadful, from the touch screen ordering to the unfriendly service from the man behind the counter. The chips were undoubtedly the cheapest of cheap oven chips. Who has ever had oven chips at a fish and chip shop? The most annoying part was the price—an absolute rip-off! If you enjoy terrible food at overly inflated prices, then this is the place for you.

Honest review: Ordered cod and chips, small portions, overpriced, extremely oily cod until the point it was sticking to the paper and chips (not real chip shop chips) tasted old and refried. The taste of oil stayed in my mouth, to the point I felt sick, Very disappointed!! Unfortunately, I cannot recommend or return, also after reading the reviews, I now know better.

I put 1 star because the app does not allow me to put less than one star. They do not deserve one star. It is a typical place design for tourist who will never come back. No regułar customes will come back for the over priced under proportioned oily meal. Even chips were dry and tasteless. It's sooo annoying when you walking in a place and ask for something that they do, day and day out for years and tastes like a block of ash.

Words cannot begin to describe the lacklustre and heartbreaking experience I was subjected to today on the Brighton Coast. The fish was the lucky one as he didn’t have to waste his money. This fish and chips is the worst I’ve ever had and the owner needs to spend more time working on his cooking rather than replying to reviews claiming it’s fake when he has an overall rating of 2 stars. As an avid fan of a meal of fish and chips I find it disheartening when I see such a lack of care and love or passion for the craft being displayed and it shakes me to my core at the sheer distain you must feel for your customers by serving what you do. If you’d like a good piece of fish you’d have more luck catching it yourself out of the ocean then coming here. Reply - not sure what you didn’t understand mate your comprehension skills must be as underwhelming as your fish.

Were with my boys Max and Ellis and got charged around £20 for a piece of fish that looks like it had been half volleyed across the shop and took about half an hour to come out. Chips were alright but this place is a daylight robbery. Not happy one bit and ruined my day. Responding to your reply I said around £20 not that it was £20. Learn to read you muppet.

After dining in this establishment with my companions Fahad and Leo, I must express my profound distress. Upon entrance, we collectively observed the deplorable condition of the restaurant. One might imagine they had stumbled into a war zone (Hamas) rather than a fine dining venue. The walls were dilapidated, the tables severely degraded, and the pervasive odor of decay nearly prompted us to leave immediately. Having served in the Army for four years and witnessed the remnants of conflicts, I can attest that those scenes were in better condition than this place. We chose to overlook these abhorrent conditions and seated ourselves at a table in the aforementioned state. To our utter dismay, there was a singular poo present in the center of our table. How such a glaring oversight escaped the notice of the staff is beyond comprehension. Are they not trained to identify and rectify such egregious issues? When the food arrived, it resembled rations more than a meal. I had ordered the haddock and chips, only to be served the skull of the fish and four singular chips. After paying £35, I was appalled and immediately raised the issue with management. Despite this, I was met with a resolute response: "This is what everyone else gets and no one else has complained. Just deal with it or leave." I was both astonished and perplexed by this reply. On the verge of a breakdown, I stormed back to the table and instructed everyone to leave, which we did promptly. BE WARNED - Shockingly bad! Frozen chips (20 chips) for £5. The service was disgusting from start to finish including them only clearing one plate away before getting changed in front of customers and just leaving!! Only dined here because I was rushed for time, I could see from a distance they were not real chippy chips from what people were eating. It wasn't a good sign as people didn't even finish them or barely touch them judging by what was left on the table. The fish however was better but it's sad that they couldn't deliver the chips.

Cod, haddock, whitebaits, and wings were all overcooked. Chips were alright. Gravy, mushy peas, and curry sauce were the only good things we tasted.

Went here after an event on a Saturday night, so there were about 4/5 orders in front of mine. However, there was only one person serving, which meant we were waiting about 25 minutes. When we got our order, they'd missed out an item, to which I had to go back and ask for. When we did have our fish and chips, the chips were basically fried oven chips and the fish wasn't much better. Me and my dad felt rough all through the night, despite only eating some of the fish. Such a disappointment in such a prime location. I've never paid so much for an upset stomach...

The lady who served us was nice. It doesn’t get much better than that. Unfortunately the waiting time is ridiculous, they didn’t remember who ordered what, they asked people waiting what they ordered, they didn’t give me mushy peas and ketchup sachets as requested and paid for but I didn’t want to tell them because I had enough and didn’t want to cause further delays. Cod was nice, chips were bad. Should’ve checked reviews first.

Worst fish & chips ever! Frozen food, cold fish, pizza made with expired ham, taste disgusting, I hope nobody will be sick after this awful restaurant ! It was dirty, the wine was terrible because of disgusting glasses. The guy was spaced out and even didn't say hi. It was expansive, I regret I didn't check the comments and went to this place. Run away if you don't want to be sick! Ps: note for the owner : I usually give good rates, Im not here to punish people/ restaurant , just to give a honest feedback !

Thought there must have been a mistake when I looked at the chips. Must be a potato famine in Brighton because it looked like they had counted the chips into the tray. Additionally the chips can only be described as looking and tasting like chunky oven chips. I've seen the reply. And unfortunately this is a photo taken when the chips arrived. Hence, ketchup unopened and I think you can just about make out the canned drink also unopened 👍

Poor quality! Hardly any chips with the cod. Some chips not cooked properly. Batter on the cod was moist & needed longer. Bloody expensive! Didn't even bother to butter the 'buttered roll'.
