My friend threw up approximately 10 minutes after eating.

The worst fish and chips I have EVER been served. Nasty burnt smell and taste to the batter, and to the chips. As far from "chippy chips" as you can get. Fish very watery and the Plaice had a very odd taste - needless to say most of it was left on the plate. Onion rings and garlic mushrooms were ok. Disappointed to say the least!

Nipped in here on one of the hottest days this year as I was working Nextdoor. Purchased myself two cans of fizzy drink £1.80 each but the best part they were multipack cans which I thought was a piss take for the price. The bloke behind the counter his English was very poor so a lot of pointing was exchanged. Lots of seating area however I was just in/out.

There is too much oil, and it smells bad. Fish and fries are not cooked properly. And inside, there is a skin with a lot of fish scales. It was too expensive.

Ordered chicken nuggets and chips, chicken nuggets were really nice, not too oily or non-chickenish. Chips were not awful but not good. Tasted as if they were oven-cooked and previously frozen. Woman behind the counter was lovely - fantastic customer service

I would give 0 stars if I could this was the worst fish and chip of my life. - the fish was WET despite being £9 - the tartare sauce was infact GARLIC MAYO - the battered sausage was a CUMBERLAND sausage - the chips were home style FREEZER chips Need i say more, this made me close to tears. However the waitress doing a cameo of trisha paytas was a delight

The service don't clean tables, so seagulls do the mess when you try to eat. It looks no good. Second thing, the food is disgusting and very expensive. Too much fat and VERY VERY VERY dry chicken. Never again.

Chicken quarter - dry and small, like sawdust with oil. The lady charged more for the set, and what's more, there's crap on the tables, and those who can keep up will eat the seagulls because the staff has time... The prices don't match the quality. STONES FROM THE BEACH HAVE MORE LIFE AND SOUL THAN THIS CHICKEN AND ALL THE REST. FIRST AND LAST TIME.

The food was by far the worst sausage and chips I’ve had. I wished I went next door to the vegan one and I ain’t vegan!! £20 quid for tiny portion and it was as if it had been left to go cold and quickly dipped in the oil to warm through just enough. I didn’t finish the food and didn’t think the seagulls would approve so left it.

My wife and I got our lunch from here yesterday and she had cod and chips and I had battered sausage and chips the first problem was ordering it on a screen only to find out that it had run out of receipt paper and the rude man behind the counter shouted and eventually ignored my Wife after he refused to give her our already paid for food because she didn’t have a receipt my wife then repeatedly tried to show him her bank statement on her phone app to prove she indeed had paid but he refused to speak to her eventually a lovely Lebanese lady understood he was in fact Lebanese and spoke to him and eventually he gave her the food he forgot the chips and she had to go back and we tried to eat it but it was the most tasteless disgusting food I ever have had from a chip shop if the owner wants to keep defending he’s shop like on all of the previous comments he will be going out of business in the near future he can live in denial all he likes but at the end of the day he won’t be there for much longer I didn’t know all of this was going on until my wife eventually got back with the so called food and I had to move my car straight away he was lucky I didn’t go in to order the food!

I went to this restaurant with my family for lunch and was extremely disappointed. The chips were frozen chips not freshly made like in most chip shops, and weren't cooked well. The cod was OK but overcooked. The prices were extortionate. Don't waste your time at this place awful. Also the portions are extremely small.

Staff were arguing amongst themselves. Fish was overcooked. Saveloy was cold. Gherkins were tiny. Kept repeating the order as she kept forgetting. Oh, and mushy peas were disgusting. Chips were average.

Absolutely horrendous—possibly the worst chip shop I have ever visited. The entire experience was dreadful, from the touch screen ordering to the unfriendly service from the man behind the counter. The chips were undoubtedly the cheapest of cheap oven chips. Who has ever had oven chips at a fish and chip shop? The most annoying part was the price—an absolute rip-off! If you enjoy terrible food at overly inflated prices, then this is the place for you.

Honest review: Ordered cod and chips, small portions, overpriced, extremely oily cod until the point it was sticking to the paper and chips (not real chip shop chips) tasted old and refried. The taste of oil stayed in my mouth, to the point I felt sick, Very disappointed!! Unfortunately, I cannot recommend or return, also after reading the reviews, I now know better.

The food was very disappointing, with really poor quality. If I had read the reviews earlier, I wouldn't have stopped here, despite its nice location.

I put 1 star because the app does not allow me to put less than one star. They do not deserve one star. It is a typical place design for tourist who will never come back. No regułar customes will come back for the over priced under proportioned oily meal. Even chips were dry and tasteless. It's sooo annoying when you walking in a place and ask for something that they do, day and day out for years and tastes like a block of ash.

Were with my boys Max and Ellis and got charged around £20 for a piece of fish that looks like it had been half volleyed across the shop and took about half an hour to come out. Chips were alright but this place is a daylight robbery. Not happy one bit and ruined my day. Responding to your reply I said around £20 not that it was £20. Learn to read you muppet.

Came here with my mates Dan and Ellis and the menu they had on wall was different to real menu as it was about twice the price as it said on wall took ages for the food to come just for some of the driest chips I ever had and fish was alright but never worth the price paid for it Responding to you on the board it says £8 for haddock when I actually bought it it was £15 something idk bout u but that’s about double the price

Words cannot begin to describe the lacklustre and heartbreaking experience I was subjected to today on the Brighton Coast. The fish was the lucky one as he didn’t have to waste his money. This fish and chips is the worst I’ve ever had and the owner needs to spend more time working on his cooking rather than replying to reviews claiming it’s fake when he has an overall rating of 2 stars. As an avid fan of a meal of fish and chips I find it disheartening when I see such a lack of care and love or passion for the craft being displayed and it shakes me to my core at the sheer distain you must feel for your customers by serving what you do. If you’d like a good piece of fish you’d have more luck catching it yourself out of the ocean then coming here. Reply - not sure what you didn’t understand mate your comprehension skills must be as underwhelming as your fish.

After dining in this establishment with my companions Fahad and Leo, I must express my profound distress. Upon entrance, we collectively observed the deplorable condition of the restaurant. One might imagine they had stumbled into a war zone (Hamas) rather than a fine dining venue. The walls were dilapidated, the tables severely degraded, and the pervasive odor of decay nearly prompted us to leave immediately. Having served in the Army for four years and witnessed the remnants of conflicts, I can attest that those scenes were in better condition than this place. We chose to overlook these abhorrent conditions and seated ourselves at a table in the aforementioned state. To our utter dismay, there was a singular poo present in the center of our table. How such a glaring oversight escaped the notice of the staff is beyond comprehension. Are they not trained to identify and rectify such egregious issues? When the food arrived, it resembled rations more than a meal. I had ordered the haddock and chips, only to be served the skull of the fish and four singular chips. After paying £35, I was appalled and immediately raised the issue with management. Despite this, I was met with a resolute response: "This is what everyone else gets and no one else has complained. Just deal with it or leave." I was both astonished and perplexed by this reply. On the verge of a breakdown, I stormed back to the table and instructed everyone to leave, which we did promptly. Chips were poor and not very warm and a small bottle of Coke was £3.50 - total rip off! Avoid!

Shocking place to eat at, overpriced, staff clueless and small portions. Also gave me used cutlery from the table next to me and I’ve left feeling pretty ill.

BE WARNED - Shockingly bad! Frozen chips (20 chips) for £5. The service was disgusting from start to finish including them only clearing one plate away before getting changed in front of customers and just leaving!! The tables were filthy, the cutlery worse than manky…. Not worth it in any way! I’d give no stars but that option is not available. Worst still is the management trying to say reviews are incorrect which is them lying through their teeth. I would not recommend anything apart from - Avoid at all costs.

Only dined here because I was rushed for time, I could see from a distance they were not real chippy chips from what people were eating. It wasn't a good sign as people didn't even finish them or barely touch them judging by what was left on the table. The fish however was better but it's sad that they couldn't deliver the chips.

Cod, haddock, whitebaits, and wings were all overcooked. Chips were alright. Gravy, mushy peas, and curry sauce were the only good things we tasted.

Went here after an event on a Saturday night, so there were about 4/5 orders in front of mine. However, there was only one person serving, which meant we were waiting about 25 minutes. When we got our order, they'd missed out an item, to which I had to go back and ask for. When we did have our fish and chips, the chips were basically fried oven chips and the fish wasn't much better. Me and my dad felt rough all through the night, despite only eating some of the fish. Such a disappointment in such a prime location. I've never paid so much for an upset stomach...

The lady who served us was nice. It doesn’t get much better than that. Unfortunately the waiting time is ridiculous, they didn’t remember who ordered what, they asked people waiting what they ordered, they didn’t give me mushy peas and ketchup sachets as requested and paid for but I didn’t want to tell them because I had enough and didn’t want to cause further delays. Cod was nice, chips were bad. Should’ve checked reviews first.

Worst fish & chips ever! Frozen food, cold fish, pizza made with expired ham, taste disgusting, I hope nobody will be sick after this awful restaurant ! It was dirty, the wine was terrible because of disgusting glasses. The guy was spaced out and even didn't say hi. It was expansive, I regret I didn't check the comments and went to this place. Run away if you don't want to be sick! Ps: note for the owner : I usually give good rates, Im not here to punish people/ restaurant , just to give a honest feedback !

Thought there must have been a mistake when I looked at the chips. Must be a potato famine in Brighton because it looked like they had counted the chips into the tray. Additionally the chips can only be described as looking and tasting like chunky oven chips. I've seen the reply. And unfortunately this is a photo taken when the chips arrived. Hence, ketchup unopened and I think you can just about make out the canned drink also unopened 👍

I would not recommend this place at all! Pay extra attention to the prices, as they can charge you extra money, use the self service display instead (sauces are to be paid extra, while A single pickles is served) 🫣

Poor quality! Hardly any chips with the cod. Some chips not cooked properly. Batter on the cod was moist & needed longer. Bloody expensive! Didn't even bother to butter the 'buttered roll'.

I’m sorry to say that this was the worst fish and chips we’ve ever had. I’ll caveat by saying we didn’t have fish, we ordered some chips, battered sausage, and popcorn chicken. The simplest explanation for all of the food we had is that it’s simply frozen stuff bought from Iceland that’s chucked into the fryer. The popcorn chicken was the only thing that was mildly flavourful, but it was clear that it was frozen and bought from an unnamed food store. The chips are simply bog standard oven chips, there’s nothing traditional chip shop about them, and we were really disappointed by this fact. The battered sausage was incessantly greasy, and the batter itself was incredibly soggy despite being hot and fresh. The actual flavour wasn’t too bad, but was marred by the batter and grease. Curry sauce was ok. For the price, this was unbelievably bad, around £25 for the lot. Only reason this gets a single star was the phenomenally good customer service from the woman behind the till. She was absolutely amazing - it is a shame the other staff looked like they didn’t care, and the fact the restaurant was completely empty should’ve been a clear indication of the quality of food this establishment would deliver.

I came down to Brighton for the day and one thing I really wanted to do was go to a local fish & chip shop, which I did. My initial thoughts of the place was that it did look a little run down and in need of some TLC, however, the man behind the counter was extremely friendly and then there’s the food. I ordered a battered sausage and chips and being as honest as I can, the sausage was okay but the chips did taste a bit frozen and were quite dry. The toilet itself is what you would expect, well stocked with soap and toilet roll etc but the lock was broken which did make me feel a bit uneasy on people coming in. However, overall, the food was okay, customer service was really good and overall it was an okay experience. Not amazing but also not horrible.

If I was able to give a no star this place would have it all day long. Some of food was hot and some was cold . Could not work out how some chips were hot and some chips were cold. Nothing fresh about this place atall. Spent £27 on something none of us could eat. Pie was stone cold and fish cake smells funny and chips are definitely frozen. For a traditional fish and chip shop in Brighton this is a disgrace. The pie was stone cold. The man behind the counter was totally unhelpful and refused point blank he was not going to refund us even though we could not eat anything. You really need to avoid this place and go to McDonalds as it would be 100 percent better.

Absolutely disgusting. Worst food I have ever had the misfortune to eat. Disgusting server - filthy apron & piles of dribble coming out his mouth. Hello, i would give ZERO STAR AFTER THE REPLY FROM OWNER OF SHOP . I don’t really write reviews but I thought I would about this place, the chips were not even fresh. They were frozen and and come out of a bag and the portion size is a joke £4.50 for a small portion and there’s no other sizes. I also had a battered sausage batter didn’t even stay on the sausage and just tasted of oil and fat was disgusting . I asked For garlic sauce doesn’t have asked for barbecue says he has, but I had to insist for him to go get the bottle so that I may put on my dinner that I did not enjoy after being at work all day wasted £8.50 . So I put my review and this what the owner says of the shop write back to me what I think is not the right way to treat your customers. How am I supposed to know that you sell frozen chips, not fresh . How do you know that there was nothing wrong with the battered sausage I ordered if I was the one who try to eat it .

Don't bother, terrible food, rip off prices.

During a recent weekend trip to Brighton my partner and I decided we fancied a quick bite to eat before we went on the British Airways i360 which is where we found The West Pier Fish and Chip shop. A great location right on the Brighton Seafront seems like the ideal place to get British Fish and Chips right?... wrong!!! We were greeted by a very friendly lady on the till but this is as far as anything pleasant went with our experience here!! We ordered a Fish cake and chips and one large cod, my partner paid and I went to use the toilet. The toilets were absolutely filthy and the lock on the door was broken. I also noticed there was no hand soap available so decided I would wait and find a toilet elsewhere! I went back up to wait for our food and overheard a table behind us returning their food and saying the fish had a really funny taste and was mushy on top. They were told they would cook them a fresh one. Meanwhile there was another lady who was supposedly cleaning tables - the cloth she was using was filthy and no sanitiser spray used going between random tables making herself look busy! Our drinks were then brought over and we were given dirty glasses so both decided to drink them out of bottles/cans directly. Our food followed swiftly and we saw we were served a really pale piece of battered fish which had a 'puddle' of mush on the top. My partner decided to peel back the batter and it was then very apparent that the puddle of mush was in fact raw batter which surrounded the fish from where it hadn't been cooked long enough. We tried one mouthful of the fish and can honestly say we are so glad we didn't eat any more than that as it was cold and had an awful taste. We brought this to the attention of the lady who was cleaning the tables and she said she would get us another but by this point we were really put off so said we didn't want another cooking and would just like the money back. The lady then wandered off and then said it wouldn't be long - when we re-explained that we had said we wouldn't like another she was rude and replied 'it's already cooking'. The guy who was cooking the fish then spoke to my partner over the counter and said 'look it's fine let me eat it in front of you and proceeded to push his dirty fingers into the middle of the fish' - absolutely disgusting!! The chips were covered in brown grease and looked like something you'd find in a School canteen - not traditional chip shop chips at all!! The fish cake had a really strong off taste too so we decided that for fear of becoming unwell during our weekend away that we wouldn't eat anything more. Our meal came to £30 and we were reluctantly given £10 back. After leaving in total shock at such a poor and unsanitary experience we decided to look at online reviews and it appears our experience doesn't seem to be an isolated one as there are hundreds of similar reviews online. Just wish we'd looked before we'd ordered :(

Awful service. The woman in charge kept shouting at her staff, ordered them to stop talking and not to stop working. Food took so long to came and was extremely over priced. Woman in charge slapped the back of the waitress head when she got an order mixed up and kept talking to other people while we were trying to order. Would never recommend this place in a million years. Heard rumours or drug usages/dealing on site. Absolutely disgusting. Update: owner decided to reply with the following: This is a big lie. You don't have any proof, as lies don't have legs to stand on. Please Avoid lies. There isn't this kind of behaviour you invented. Bad reviews speak for themselves and unfortunately this establishment has plenty of them. I won’t be eating here again and would suggest that others don’t too.

Quite bad. £18 for bitter, grey catering coffee in a pot that dribbled all over the table and UHT milk in a miniature jug that leaked more into the saucer than the cup, what appeared to be an Aldi deep-fried frozen battered fish fillet, and a decent portion of deep-fried frozen oven chips. Luckily the background noise from the fridges and freezers in the seating area distracted attention away from how awful the food was. Please don't go here.

Was made to order via touch screen and pay whilst in queue. Ordered and paid for a pizza. Got to the counter and was told there was no pizza in stock, despite already paying for it. Asked for a refund and was told I couldn't have one. Asked to speak to a manager or to get someone who could authorise a refund, and was told this was not possible. Was forced to order a selection of mediocre unwanted food to try to match the price, or faced being £18 out of pocket. Food that turned out to be vastly overcooked. DO NOT BOTHER, VERY POOR SERVICE. You should not be made to pay for an item that is out of stock and be essentially told 'we have your money and you can't have it back'. If any item is out of stock, it should be communicated before payment, or be temporarily removed from digital menu. Please do not fall victim to this like I did.

If I could this place 0 stars I would. AVOID AVOID AVOID. We came here because it was close to our hotel and the Brighton centre, the only good thing going for this place is the location. Customer service is abysmal, food was cold, tasteless and frozen chips and fish. When asked for a refund they were so rude. Can’t believe the food is so expensive for what they are offering. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! This place is filthy, needs to be closed down indefinitely. The fish was like grey sludge cooked in batter that was impossible to eat, it was like chewing on a fossilised sandal. The chips were also impossible to eat, it was easy to tell that the food had been hanging around for approximately 2 days, cemented by the fact that I was vomiting non-stop. The gravy was grey with a distinct separation of dirty grease on the upper portion of the tub. Everything ordered was also stone cold. It was a disgusting mess, the hygiene health and safety inspectors need to be made aware of this company and reported to Just Eat, Uber Eats and Deliveroo etc.

I also wish I could give 0 stars . All I wanted is some good fish and chips shop chips with curry sauce .I got chips worse than mccains frozen chips . It cost 7 pounds for one portion and a tiny curry sauce. I expected it to at least be proper chips cut from potatoes, not from mash . Bad choice !!!

Im not one for leaving reviews especially ones running places and small business down during hard times but this food was shocking. Expected fresh and chips from a shop right on the sea front but instead got frozen chips with a piece of cod that tasted like a frozen youngs one sausage in batter was anyones guess too how old it was. For 30 quid for a cod and chips and sausage and batter with chips you would at least expect hand peeled and cut chips! Its a joke - do not go by any means

Stopped briefly waiting for family member. Had Saveloy and chips. Saveloy was disgusting. Watery and no taste, just inedible. chips were freshly cooked and hot, but of the frozen type, not your trad cut potato type. Told the person serving who just shrugged his shoulders...wasn't bothered. Don't waste your hard earned here.

The most disgusting Sausage and batter I have ever tasted the chips were overcooked the sausage and batter was so solid that my dog would have broken its teeth In fact I would not feed this to me dog. The young man who served me looked like he needed a shave and bath. Don't eat here if you value your teeth.

Absolutely disgusting. Frozen chips. Not traditional chips as I was told. They charge 20p for a sachet of ketchup too. Wouldn’t have minded if the chips were good but I had to dump them. They were that bad.

I know the say English food is bland but this was on another level. I had to add a ton of salt just to get any sort of flavor. The dude was friendly and I got my food quite fast and you get a nice view over the beach if you manage to get a table in the front or outside. Seems like a place only toursists would go (I definitely fell for it).

The shop looks great, but the chips weren't the best. We also were given them in a non-traditional box (think garlic bread takeaway box from a pizza place), which actually ensures you get a much smaller portion than you expect. The price would have been fair if it were not for the undersized portions.

Another scam for tourists. Ordered a £10.20 fish and chips. The fish was not fresh at all: the texture was too soft, bad taste and smell. The upholstery of most of the chairs is dirty. The bathroom even worse. Also they gave me a plastic fork that melted down in the pulp of the cod due to the heat. The chips were the tipical poor ones available in a shoddy take-away. I just stopped eating it. They did not even offer me something else to eat to replace that meal nor offered a refund. On the top of that: the fish and chips they give you is completely different from some of the photos uploaded here or in other websites, starting from its presentation. They just squeeze everything in a a small cardboard box. Please do a favor to yourself and avoid that place.

I recommend to order to take away, and seat down outside. We were charged almost doubled to order and eating in. We order two different dishes of fish and chips, mushrooms with garlic and ring onions. The order took a lot of time to be served plus they didn't get the order well and one plate of fish and chips was missing. We didn't even realized when paying because it was very expensive. The fish & chips was good. The mushrooms didn't taste garlic at all and the bread around it was way too much.

A late night stop on our way back from a concert, our server was friendly, attentive and informative. Cooked us fresh chips and nuggets. I would recommend this place. One man on his own, managed the sudden influx well, even when some customers were being obnoxious.

Honestly I wish I could give 0 stars. I have never experienced so rude staff in my life. We ordered 3 fish and chips, and only received 1. Then we asked for 2 more, and then she got really angry at us and raising her voice like it was our fault. Then when we got the other 2 other fish it had a much stronger taste then the first one we got and we really didn’t like it. So we obviously realised they gave us a different fish then the cod we ordered the first time. She refused to give us a new one or the money back. Also it was really expensive! Please please please don’t go here…

Over priced!! £26 for fish n chips and chicken nugget kids meal. The venue needs a good overhaul as it's old and dusty (literally). It needs more than a lick of paint. The fish was very hot, bland but a good size. One customer got chips that were pre-cooked and reheated in the microwave. It wasn't a proper portion of chips either as I could count them on the plate. The fish was placed on top of the chips to deflect from the scarcity. The worse thing is you have to order and pay beforehand.... I won't return. It's a shame as the customer service was on point 😒 They need Gordan Ramsey's help for sure!

Waited 4o minutes for our order, and each item turned up at different times. Drinks turned up after the meal. The guy was on his own and apologised that he was waiting for the owner to help. This was between 12:00 and 1:30.

I should have read reviews prior. Fish and chips dry and tasteless, still waiting for sauce. Vegan sausage ordered which was frozen inside. No apologies from one member of staff who appeared to believe my friend should shut up and eat it. Despicable customer service, especially when paying for food and service. Will not recommend!!

First time I've been to Brighton, so I thought I just had to get some fish & chips. This place caught my eye so I thought I'd give it a try. I ate in and they are very friendly and the fish was excellent.

Diabolical Don’t waste your money, 15 quid for the worst fish n chips I have ever had. Garbage.

Should have checked the reviews. Tasteless, expensive (“chips are extra”), badly cooked, all frozen, then had to argue for half a refund.

Avoid at all costs. Massively over priced for at best an average product. The one member of staff was doing his best to both cook and serve but whoever owns this shop should be ashamed of themselves. Simply appalling

Awful. Chips dry, fish very overcooked and still had skin on, excessively overpriced. One young chap working his butt off while (owner?) prowled about trying to look.important, meaning it took 40 minutes to get our food.

Only popped in to buy a few drinks while we sat watching the sea the other day but I wanted to leave a review as the lady on the till was so kind and friendly it really made me smile! Amazing customer service and will have to pop back for food next time we’re in town.

The chips were delicious but the main selling point of this fish and chip shop is the wonderful staff member who helped us. She was super friendly and welcoming, and really brightened our day.

Massive portions!!! So either go hungry or just order one to share
