Gluten Free Fish and chips was very enjoyable, service was great, clean premises, and plenty seating outside, regular F&C Partner enjoyed, would recommend. Close to Toilets at Bus Stop/Station really clean.

Gluten Free is totally safe I’ve been fine. This is the only place we could find in Filey to serve GF fish and chips. Premises are a little run down and for over £12 for a regular GF fish & chips the portions were small, Fish was fresh but too fishy for my liking I had Cod. Chips were really really nice though.

Cod only !!! Shall not be returning here.

The woman serving was nasty to other customers. She screamed at an elderly woman and told her she was barred when she questioned the standard of the food and she said her drink had gone off. She snapped at me when ordering and when I asked for some tap water for my baby, she told me that she couldn’t give me water as the pipes were rusty. How can a restaurant serve food and not have clean running water?! Wouldn’t go back! Not sure anyone else should as it clearly isn’t sanitary. Currently hoping that none of my family get I’ll from eating there if they don’t even have clean water.

Greasy grey haired woman serving, propper rude towards my wife and daughter, she snatched the vinager tub out of my wife's hand and said " customers rnt aloud t touch, there's a sign over there""??? Its a holiday experience and then u meet this horrible lady with sweat dripping of her head and wherever else🤢Very rude and arrogant and the foods not great! Fish tastes very fishy and chips r burnt brown! Got t b the worst chippy in Scarborough after that💯 she took my order and when she realised I only had card and no cash she started to b very rude and go in a huff. She needs some people and customer skills shes awful honestly. When you don't controll the salt and vinager in a chippy its a big no no, place was empty. Should of seen the signs

Chips had an odd taste. Potatoes maybe not top quality. Fish was OK.

Fresh cooked cod and chips for three. Absolutely delicious, cod melt in the mouth, crispy batter and fabulous chips; great service from friendly staff too. Recommended

fabulous staff and they had run out of haddock and had cod and it was delicious x very kind lady serving and although we only wanted just the one portion to share, she very kindly brought out another one for me. also, the chips are cooked in Beef dripping and much as the fish in a lot of the restaurants in Scarborough and Whitby is nice, the chips have not been up to much, but these were really nice. 5 stars well deserved

Jesus if you want to been on the pot all night go there keep well away from this place it's not fit for a dog to eat

Totally disgusting service we went in for a sitting down meal on the 18th April wich was served to the table as what we interpreted to be in take away cartons the price was extortionate and staff stood over us to hurry us up to leave as they obviously wanted to close they shouldn't have taken our order in that instance when we asked for extra salt and vinegar the server said she would have to stand there for them as she would get into trouble for giving us them and the staff proceeded to watch over us till we felt abliged to leave our meal and leave the meal we received was poor and extortionate and would never recommend this place to anyone.

Always visit this fish and chip shop when in Scarborough . We have never had a bad meal . Always fresh and plenty of it. They are hard working and try to keep everybody safe.

Went here during half term ,liked the name of the chippy thought yeah fresh fish and chips, how wrong could I be ,the worst fish and chips ever ,ok I'll start this review, if you like tail end fish with virtually non existent fish meat you will love it ,I bought 1 large cod and 1 fish and chips ,well the older lady that was on frying duty must have incinerated the fish the batter came out so dark on the so called fish and over cooked chips, then the person that gave me the order tried to push the chip fork into the batter of the fish which he did not succeed, so laid the chip fork on the side ,we took the meals away to sit somewhere different, the fish was just large blobs of batter with virtually no fish content and chips so overcooked ,we both had about one mouthful and binned it ,I even begrudgingly give it 1star ,must be something wrong with that chip shop ,because the next day we went to filey and the first chip shop we came across was first catch so I decided to go into the chippy and told the guy frying the experience I'd had with first catch at Scarborough, he told me that he would guarantee me my money back if i ordered the same order and didn't enjoy it ,well the difference was like day and night ,the chips perfectly cooked and the batter on the fish was a lovely golden colour, when tasting and looking inside full of succulent fish meat, so 5 stars for him ,needless to say I didn't need a refund .

Had fish and chips here today, 5 adults, one child and an infant, they were probably the best I have had in a long time, they really were superb.

The chips were soggy, the batter was overdone and hard and our table was dirty. Should have walked a couple shops up to a couple better chippies. Pretty poor, wouldn't return.

Had haddock and chips, was delicious. The fish had lovely big white flakes, batter was not to thick and crispy. Chips were good, could not eat them all as large portion. lady that served us was helpful and pleasant. Have been before and will return.

Spent the day in Scarborough on Saturday and decided on fish and chips for tea. These were probably the best I've ever had and were absolutely amazing. The batter was light and crammed full of chunky fish. Will definitely return.

Popped into this establishment earlier this afternoon for fish and chips. Me and my friend decided to sit in and eat. The food was spot on, best fish and chips I have had in a long while. Absolutely diabolical. 40 odd pound for 4 takeaway fish and chips. The worst part was the food itself. I've had 10 times better from the local chippy in Manchester. I won't even start on the staff. SHOCKING !! AVOID !!

Chips are awful here and staff are rude and the fish tasted off. Much better places along the seafront such a fish pan or lifeboat. Stay well clear of here

Fish and chips were absolutely delicious. Have to say I’m very glad we hadn’t seen the previous reviews, otherwise we would have missed an excellent meal. The lady that served us was very pleasant and helpful. Would definitely recommend and will visit again before the end of our holiday.

Passed this chip shop on walk down prom always like to eye up people food before commiting. Came back and had two fish and chips a curry sauce and a drink . Staff were lovely fish and chips was amazing. With batter bits. Added bonus 20% discount for emergency services. A lovely lunch at a great price good customer service.

Service was diabolical. Woman was extremely rude to my husband, demanded he stood where she told him to which he happily obliged. Got angry because he asked them to be wrapped up as we were taking them back a long way. Food was OK. Wouldn't return because of the service.

We went to this fish and chip shop and was very disappointed with the customer service. The women who was making up our order firstly got it wrong, we then pointed it out politely and she then became quite rude and aggressive telling us that it was our fault. My dad then just made a suggestion to make it easier for the shop and then she carried on telling us that it was our fault and that my mum had told her the wrong thing even though it was all ticketed. The other staff just stood and watched and it was an embarrassing experience for my family as we was not in the wrong at all and the staff could’ve handled it a lot better. Will not be visiting again as the food wasn’t the best either.

Visited Scarborough Sunday 16/08 and I don’t usually eat fish and chips as a rule but was so hungry and so was the wife and 15 yr old daughter Anyway they where queues in all the take always and “the first catch” tucked away in a corner seemed a 5 min wait so went there .. me and the wife got fish and chips, the daughter sausage and chips .. reasonable compared to other prices I noticed later .. anyway as soon as I ate a chip I said these are nice chips. ! ... then broke the fish in half and was pure white .. bloody hell it was so nice ! Can honestly say was the best I tasted... it’s about time I got lucky with fish and chips I always seem to get mediocre Btw the woman was so nice who served it

I was dubious buying from a chippy so close the the main attractions. From experience these places tend to make less effort as they don’t need to tempt customers back as there’s plenty of passing trade. However, we decided to give First Catch a go as the chippy that had been recommended to us was closed. Many people were around outside eating and their food looked and smelled ok. Staff in the shop were very welcoming and attentive. Food was freshly cooked and nice and hot. Portions were a good size. Prices were reasonable. The chips were cooked in beef dripping - yum - and nice and crispy. The batter on the fish was tasty and perfectly cooked. The fish was the main disappointment though. It tasted as if it had been frozen rather than fresh from the sea and was a bit dry. Otherwise lovely. Thank you.

Absolutely terrible fish and chips.The chips were re-fried which makes them hard.The fish was overdone and looked and tasted like something from Findus rather than a fresh F&C shop.No toilets, despite and indoor eating area.Pigeons walking around inside.Last straw was the fish fryer cing out to stroke a customers dog then returning to frying without washing her hands.Simply disgraceful.

A visit to the seaside isn't complete without fish and chips! Staff here were polite and friendly, however the food was only 'OK' so I dont think our visit would warrant an excellent rating.Slightly more expensive than other chippies, and we had to wait 10 mins or so for our food to be ready which wasnt ideal.

Didn't think there was anything special about this fish and chip shop... normally each one has it's unique selling point however everything was average! Thought it was slightly over priced as well and agree with some of the other reviews that others have left. The fish and chips were ok just think I've had better! Still the customer service was awesome and the lads on today were warm and friendly which is always a good thing

Brilliant fish chips worth a visit

The fish and chips here a great the fish was not to greasy and the chips was nice and fresh. The prices are reasonable for a sea front cafe but the only problem with this place is that they don’t have any toilets. There are seating inside and out and you would be able to get a wheelchair around.

Expensive rubbish food. Curry sauce was chinese! The fish was small and soggy and the fishcake was horrible. We ate in and there was a pigeon walking round also no toilet facilities.

Eat in or take away same price. I even got offered scraps and I don't know anywhere else you can get these anymore. If I had to give one negative I'd say little greasy, could do with draining a little before serving but to be fare they are busy but that also means everything is freshly cooked.

The meal was ok, chips were nice enough and cooked in beef dripping which is a childhood memory of nannas chips. Fish ok, but thick at one end and more batter at the other. £8.45 for fish and chips and a bottle of diet coke I thought was a bit steep but I suppose it is the seaside. Good for just a bag of chips, don't think I'd bother with the fish again.

I don’t normally write anything bad about places but I have to today I visited Scarborough today and we got fish chips and mushy peas first all staff were rough and ready on there phones ordered our food and told cash only got our food fish was over cooked and dry asked for a small bottle of pop 500ml this cost £1.85 will not go again try at your own cost

the fish was black no white meat. When I complained a lad told me that's what fish looks like. Took picture and making a noise showing ppl how was disgusted. After a while said he would give me another fish. I had to demand money back. But before they was all rude saying that is what fish was like and calling me names ha. I would say never go. I have posted picture. They say what fish looks like no not that I would eat. What a surprise my picture has not been put up.

Visited here 2day for lunch 2 adults 1 child we all got fish and chips fish was just okay chips hard and green curry lumpy only wooden forks on counter to eat with I asked and lady gave me plastic ones when we were half way through our meal I ask were toilets were to be told go over road and pay to use the toilet most of the food went in the bin I would not recommend this place far better places to eat in Scarborough

What a horrible place food was under cooked all orders was wrong more batter than fish tasteless curry sauce not very went staff . And as for putting a general waste bin next to table were ppl ate eating is disgusting

Very poor fish and chips paid nearly £30 for 2 adults and 3 children and have to say this is the worst we have ever had, the chips were old and the fish looked sorry for itself.

We visited Scarborough for a day out with our children today. Called into first catch for our lunch. We were greeted by a lovely man wearing a shark hat! We ordered fish and chips and sausage and chips for our children. They were really delicious! My daughter (aged 4) helped the lady clear up. The staff were wonderful and made us feel very welcome, inviting us to eat inside as it started to rain. Tables and floor were very clean, and as a chip shop worker myself, I'm always looking for cleanliness and good service.

Called in here earlier this week while we were on a day out at the seaside. Food was really nice, not too sure what the other reviews were complaining about as we thought it was as good as you can expect. Lovely traditional fish and chips just how you expect them to be. Staff were great and food was too. Would call again on our next trip out.

Staff were friendly enough but the food was not the best I’ve ever had. Served on a small tray and a bit on the greasy side & left an after taste. Silly wooden forks made it difficult to eat.

Came here with for tea and wasn’t very impressed. Cod was more expensive so had haddock and wasn’t impressed. For the price charged the portion wasn’t very big. Had to eat with wooden forks as we was offered to pay an extra 5p per plastic fork. After what we’d already spent I wasn’t paying more. To be honest it was a bit of a rip off. Father in law liked his cod though. Place is clean except all of the containers piled up in the restaurant. Curry sauce is packet made and jugs of it kept in the fridge and mine was congealed onto my chips. And staff all look unhappy and not very friendly.

Don't waste your money. Worst fish and chips I've ever had!! Overpriced and tasteless. Venture further back into Scarborough for a much better chippy (there are plenty of good ones) for tastier food, friendlier service and better valve for money.

I've never tried any fish shops in Scarborough, so picked this one as it advertised its won awards ?. The award must of been for the smallest portion. The portion size was disgustingly small and over priced, there should be ashamed of themselves

Got a portion of fish and chips and curry sauce to share. The fish was delicious. Really fresh. Not dry at all. The batter was good too. Generous sized portion. They were so good we got another piece of fish. Recommend!

the restaurant was clean and tidy when arriving, a few pigeon's were walking around in the restaurant but this is to be expected, I paid for 2 battered sausages and I only got one, chips were tasteless, fishcake was awful - dry like rubber, staff was friendly and approachable, found it weird how u pay at first desk entrance and exit to shop then go to second to collect order - wrong way round in the shop

Bizarre ordering system...goto the other end....had to ask for my change and was given a sour look. Asked for scraps on food. Got non.... Asked for salt and vinegar...had to ask her for each bag as they came out as she was just wrapping them up. Half a tub of over priced peas.

Will never come here again. You must need an attitude problem to be employed here. Customer service is none existant. Organisation is shocking. The worst over priced fish and chips I have ever had. If you want fish and chips go somewhere else! I wish I had.

Visited this establishment today the fish and chips were brilliant but the only thing that let it down is a staff member constantly on her phone. The young gentleman was rather cheery on the other hand so it was quite refreshing to see. Would recommend the fish and chips though.

Visited this establishment yesterday. Ordered fish and chips twice, one with mushy peas, the other with curry sauce. The staff were excellent, cheerful, helpful and friendly. Unfortunately that's about it. The dining area is very austere clinical and lacking in atmosphere. The chips are fine, but the fish had very a strong unpleasant fishy taste, the batter was very hard, crunchy and was lifting off the fish, the curry sauce was OK but very thin and runny.

Not only were the fish and chips excellent but we were very impressed with the counter staff. While we were eating 2 different families enquired as to what the food was fried in. The reply was beef dripping but the staff not only told them the name of a local fish shop which used vegetable oil but gave them a detailed explanation of where to find it. Very impressed.

We chose this as there was outside seating avaiable and thought it would be nice to eat a fish and chip supper in the fresh air. The service was fast and efficient and the food was nice. I noted one staff member constantly sweeping around the tables which was good to see.

Differing views here. I thought the fish and chips were bland and a bit greasy whilst my wife thought hers ok. This would not have been our choice of where to eat but it was the nearest to the evening boat cruise which we had booked and was leaving very shortly.

I popped into this place a few days ago and it was a waste if money and time.

Wow we have been to other First catch shops and love them. Went to this one in Scarborough on Sunday and won't be goin back. To start with there is no toilet but they direct you to public toilets!!!!! Then as we are sat eating our £25 order my husband points out the blonde haired woman who is serving the food licking her fingers so as I sit and watch it comes to my attention that she's actually eating a meal. Yes eating a meal behind the counter while serving. Then like a comedy show the lad next to her pulls out a bagel from under the counter wrapped in cling film and starts eating that. Not once did either of them wash there hands.

Good fish and chips, not the largest fish I've had but was tasty and enough. I would say normal 3 stars however there is some in door seating which is mega convenient especially with kids.
