Fabulous fish and chips here, cooked fresh.

Over price £2.50 for a what's called a medium chips I'd call it small. They where also under cooked and pretty tasteless. There is better place to go

Took a bread bun out of the basket on the counter only for the girl to swap it for an old stale hard one, I challenged her but she still swapped it behind my back...lost a customer tonight.

My "go to" fish takeaway when in town. Good quality, good value, good portions. So much better than the tourist rubbish around the sea front

Greetings, go regularly on evening, maybe once a week regular fish and chips, about the cheapest of the regular fish and chip shops, regular fish a very decent size, chips always lovely and soft, mushy peas nice and firm not runy as so many shops do them. Corned beef fritter, supper. Alway friendly and chatty staff.

First time at the fish shop I absolutely loved the food ty for staying open and cooked small fish and chip for me it much appreciated the food was delicious ty again x

Staff was rude, I asked for scraps on my chips and dint get them, then she asked me if I wanted salt and vinegar and I said yes I’ll put some on myself then she decided to do it herself and she put loads on that’s why I said I’ll do it myself but no she dint listen plus the chips where more hard then Mike Tyson, disappointed in the service and the staff should try smile more and have a better attitude serving customers.

I came in for a an easy treat snack after a difficult afternoon. You've lost 1* for the snarky staff member, thank you to the other for trying to make up for it. Everyone has bad days. 2* lost 'cause the chips were undercooked and pretty hard. I really wish I hadn't bothered. I've never had a bad fish and/or chips in Scarborough, what a shame.

Just been and chips taste like rubber

firstly not really a review but more of a look back of my time spent here first visited in 1996 when it was just a little shop in a alley it was tiny like real chip shop used to be. everyweek i'd visit for me it was the best ever fish and chip shop,one evening i got 2 large haddock specials they didnt even fit in the carrier bag! but so nice. went the following year around 97/98 to find it was now a takeaway and resturant i knew when stepped inside it wouldnt be the same and it wasnt. we found this place out of town as the ones in south bay are poor and overpriced just cater for tourists i understand fish and chips are a unique to everyone but this was my place i loved it thanks

My local fish n chip shop. Allyways fish and chip shop is ran by the most amazing lovely people ive ever met the staff there are always nice with a smile on there faces , now this is my go to chippie as the price, portion and quality are all amazing along side there amazing customer service and always up for a chat. You get more than what you pay for, and I've been going there consistently for my lunch every now and then for the past 5 years now and haven't had problems since.

Absolutely ridiculous that they are trying to run a business in a rural area when they don't advertise when they are coming and then refuse to serve you when they can be bothered to turn up!! More interested in moving on to the next call. Their loss is Ayton fisheries gain !!

Absolutely disgusting, nasty green potatoes used for chips so inedible and fish that smelt and tasted of bleach , made us ill, avoid at all costs 🤮

Fabulous fish and chips and sausage chips and gravy at Jacobs Mount caravan park. 10 out of 10. Better than Durhams Bells fish shop, and they take some beating.

My favourite chippy, I go a few times a month. Food is always delicious and the ladies who run it are lovely.

The Alleyways mobile van came to the Scarborough caravan & camping club site on Saturday 14 May. We were due to go out but so many people were buying fish and chips we gave them a go. We both thought these were the best fish and chips we’ve ever had. Lovely and crispy and well done. Really good. £8.50 for regular and loads of lovely chips!

Had some lovely fish and chips from here but it's a pity they don't deliver.

Dont Expect a fresh fish, watery and even had a smell to eat very disappointed as it cost me 7.50 for a regular fish chips and curry sauce. Those prices are expected at the coast for the obvious reason it should be fresh!! Will not be going back ever again

Always fantastic fish and chips. Alleyways never fails. Items are cooked fresh to order, ( at least mine always are!) and sensible Covid precautions are in place. The staff are always chatty and friendly. Highly recommended!!😀

Although closing at 14:00 and we arrived 15 minutes before, our haddock and chips were freshly made, very well wrapped and delicious. Great takeaway.

I have just been to the chippy at 12.15 and ordered three potions of chips, chicken nuggets and curry sauce. It took about 10-15 mins to cook got home 5 mins later and everything was cold we had to throw it in the bin. We have been there many times before and everything has been brilliant. Only a slight mishap hopefully will try again 🤞🤞

Thought I'd treat myself to fish and chips and would sit in.. Made to feel special and welcome and given first class attention. Fish was perfectly cooked in a light crispy batter and the mushy peas some of the best I've ever tasted. Lovely meal and would recommend Sarah and her lovely chip shop to anyone. Thankyou for making me feel special.

Called in here, at around 05.30pm. The seating area was clean. I ordered haddock and chips, with a pot of tea to eat in. For £6.00, I thought it was excellent value, as I don’t like big portions. The tea even came with two tea bags in, and I managed two cups of tea out of the pot. The fish and chips were freshly cooked, and the staff were polite and very attentive. I have posted a photograph of the sit in menu. This was taken on the 26th November 2019. Yes if I am back in this area of Scarborough, I would call back.

Staff were very rude because we didn't let them know we were eating in but never asked. The lady literally threw a fit and threw the chips just because she had to put them on a plate? No need.

After being ignored for close to ten minutes to be served (and even having a person behind me be acknowledged and served first!!),you'd hope the food would atleast be be up to industry standards. Unfortunately the food was even worse than the poor and rude service. Raw onion rings that fell out of the grimy batter and barely cooked chips were the low point of our already weak experience.

My son and I were drawn to this cute cafe whilst visiting the nearby pet shop - we are relatively new to the area. The smell of fish and chips was sooo inviting, and the cafe was lovely. For £8:50 we were served possibly the very best fish and chips in Scarborough, peas/curry sauce, freshly baked buttered bread cake and a pot of good coffee. The lady serving was very friendly and the atmosphere was good. Everywhere was scrupulously clean and well presented. Highly recommended (as is the pet shop)!

We come from Cleethorpes so we use to good fresh fish and this fish is as good as any I have had.The place was clean and the staff very helpful will go next time we holiday in Scarborough

Pleasant staff, but limp, soggy chips and anorexic fish.

Cute restaurant but alas no heater, which made for an unpleasant experience as the weather outside was freezing. Fish was pretty yummy, although the portions were very meagre. Not the best chip shop chips, either. Probably wouldn't race back there.

This fish and chip shop serves excellent fresh cooked food. The staff are very friendly and welcoming.

A few minutes out of the centre of Scarborough you will find this little treasure. The special of fish, chips, mushy peas, bread and butter with a cup of tea was beautifully presented and wonderful value at £7.50. The restaurant itself was spotlessly clean, thoughtfully decorated with care to detail including solid wooden furniture, olde worlde photographs related to sailing and the sea, mounted displays of a variety of sailors' knots and a fine model ship etc., Loved the swing door and frilled curtains. Lovely ambience. Cheerful, good-natured and chatty owner clearly has every reason to be proud of her lovely restaurant and the service she offers. Will definitely be coming again. Recommended.

Visited on Sunday,no small fish available,so ordered 2 portions of chips to take away.Opened at home,the most miserable looking chips I have ever seen,no colouring to them at all,cold and soggy.Apart from that,a poor size portion.We ate one chip each and threw away,what a waste.Very poor indeed.

Got fish from here and it smelled very fishy. The fish was off and we were ill for 3 days after. The car also stunk of fish for about 3 weeks. Chips passible.

In a town which has many excellent fish and chip shops, Alleyways doesn't really pass muster. The quality of the food is indifferent, but the prices are amongst the highest in Scarborough and the Service, although generally ok, borders on rude at times.

We recently tried Alleyways for takeaway fish and chips, our first time. While I was waiting for the fish to be cooked, the lady serving started complaining to me about the attitude and rudeness of two female customers, Chinese students, who were eating in the cafe. I smiled politely and assumed that would be it, but the comments continued. Apparently they were asking for bowls to drink tea from rather than a mug, which is normal in Chinese tea drinking culture, a fact lost on the two ladies serving. This was the girls second visit in two days, so they were clearly customers worth looking after. Unfortunately, the remarks, still being directed at me for some reason, became very personal and racist in tone, with offensive remarks about Chinese culture. I was genuinely shocked. Unbelievable!So on to the food........when we got the food home it was luke warm, the chips were very scrappy, portions small. The fish batter was overcooked, but the fish was still only luke warm, and again the portion was small. Perhaps if they had been more focused on making sure our food was properly cooked and providing decent customer service, rather than complaining about other customers, we might have had a better eating experience, and might have considered returning.The Chinese students, who were the subject of offensive racist comments, might have returned for a second visit, but we have no intention of doing so. There's a far better chip shop just down the road, where they serve good quality hot food, decent portions with a smile and friendly service, and no racist rants. This is the first review of this long standing business on Trip Advisor, surprisingly. However, just check out the reviews on Yell, Yelp and Google and judge for yourself.

Gross. I threw all the chips in the bin as they were inedible and could be done under Trade Descriptions Act. Never again from here, I always give them another chance and regret it every time. Go to Winkin Willies on the beach - now they are proper chips!!
