I've been here several times with my husband and we've both enjoyed their tasty full English breakfast. Priced at £9.95 (one of the cheapest around!) it really is excellent value for money. The bacon and sausage served is premium quality - no mass-produced, brine pumped tasteless produce here. Freshly baked crusty bread or toast. All beautifully cooked and presented. They have a great choice of hot and cold drinks, beautiful cappuccino's 😋 Smaller appetites and vegetarians are also catered for on their Breakfast/Brunch menu. We've always received excellent service from Danielle at front of house and waitress. Nothing has ever been too much trouble whether it be a booking query or a specific request during our visit or just a nice friendly conversation, so I am shocked to read some people's negative reviews about service here. We've also had the good fortune to sample Afternoon tea....which was sublime and well worth the £15.95pp !! A fabulous selection of cakes, sandwiches, quiche, scotch eggs, pork pie, so much for the two of us we couldn't eat it all. A take-out box came in very handy. Keep doing what you're doing Danielle and team, it definitely keeps us coming back for more!!

After many lovely visits we came here for my birthday brunch. We checked the website before going to see what time this was served until. The website is not clear and we couldn’t see anything that stated a time. On arrival we were asked what we had come for “brunch and breakfast”. We were brought the menus 5 minutes later and all chose breakfast options. On rereading the menu breakfast was served until 11.30. It was 11.32 so I approached the chef who abruptly said - it’s table service. I explained we had come for breakfast and had noticed the timings in the menu. It’s too late I have to have a cut off time she said whilst plating up a breakfast for other customers. I understand cut off times but to be spoken to so rudely by both the chef and the manager re this when we had said our reason for visit was more than unpleasant. We left deciding to go somewhere else where we would be spoken to politely and with respect. I don’t think this is much to ask for. We will not be returning. Very disappointed

It’s a lovely cafe, beautiful inside and out. We had been cruising on a Narrowboat all day and looking forward to making it to the cafe for a hot drink and some cake. We knew they were closing at four and tried to make it for three. We got to the cafe at about 3:15-3:20. We were served by I assume the owner or manager and she was busy closing down for the day, she seemed cross that we were there, I assume she was tired after a long day and didn’t want to serve any more customers…She was mid way through cleaning the coffee machine as we were being served and rudely told us she could only serve us tea or cold drinks, my two year old daughter had been looking forward to sharing a hot chocolate all day. So we said we were after a hot chocolate, and she said “right sit down then” or something very close to those lines. It was empty inside, but there was a couple sat outside. She sat us down at the first table promptly, and without giving us any time to sit down or get settled, said “so what do you want”. Bare in mind I’m with my daughter’s grandparents and we have been very polite throughout this time. We found our service from her very rude, the hot chocolates were lovely, but of course any instant galaxy hot chocolate is going to be. We rushed through our drinks and cake feeling like we needed to leave as soon as we could because we had been so un-welcomed by the manager, by the time we had finished it was only half three and three other customers walked in who then received lovely service, much different to what we had received. I understand it’s the end of the week for the people working there and they’re ready to have their days off, but we shouldn’t feel guilty for being in a cafe especially when we’re paying for good service, not just of food and drinks but customer service too, which we did not receive. Overall I am disappointed with our time at this cafe as it really looks so lovely and the food looks lovely too. It’s a shame that we weren’t treated with more kindness. If you say you’re closing at four, you’re closing at four, you have to expect customers up until then… that’s just part of hospitality!

An absolutely fabulous tearoom. I visit here with friends and family, we go for anything from a cuppa to afternoon tea and couldn't recommend highly enough, we even send our Airbnb guests and all have come back saying how lovely it is. Keep up the great work ladies.

Although their website states they have something 'for all of the family' it appears they would rather you didn't take your children. When my children went outside after eating their cakes quietly, the waitrose openly said to another customer that people tend not to take their children there, and they prefer it that way as their cusomers do not want to be bothered by them. I felt quite uncomfortable by this discussion considering the whole cafe could hear and I was there with my children. Food was nice, but customer service was definitely lacking. I would not recommend for families.

Read some of the other reviews on here and am amazed at some of the poor posts. I couldn’t disagree more with them!! Just been with family, party of 12, and the service could not have been better, so friendly and obliging. One of our waitresses, who I believe is the daughter of the owners, was absolutely delightful. The lunches, cakes, coffees, teas and other drinks were spot on. Yes the menu is relatively small, but this just means that what is on offer is high quality.

Chose this venue as a coffee stop on a daytime car trip with friends. Everyone was delighted with our choice of venue. Warm and friendly welcome, delicious coffee and wonderful variety of cakes but they do so much more and everything coming out of the kitchen on our recent visits looked appetising.

We thought we had found a gem at the Firs at Dunhampstead and in the previous few months we went regularly. It wasn't entirely perfect because the menu is limted however very tasty and the two waitresses were accommodating and friendly. My husband aged 83 suffered a stroke 2 years ago and doesn't hear well. On our last visit I asked if we could sit at a table set for 3 as I felt it would give us more space. It was 2.00 o'clock but I was told no, it was reserved. There was ample space and many tables set for 4 empty. On this fateful occasion we served served by a new waiter who we had not seen before. We were the last customers to come in for lunch. On previous visits we had had a very delicious quiche but weren't keen on the fact that it had be warmed in a microwave which we felt spoilt the pastry. We asked him if it could be heated in an oven instead. A discordant discussion about the cooking of the quiche followed which my husband could not follow. I felt that the waiter was high handed and meant to put us down and he eventually said to my husband, "you heard" The fact was that my husband had not heard. In fact my husband did not hear the insult or even understand that he had been insulted. I was very upset and my husband knew I was distressed. We should have simply got up and left. The meal that followed was ruined. The waiter I now understand is the proprietor. We will not be going to the The Firs at Dunhampstead again and that's sad because the 2 waitresses were very pleasant and welcoming.

Lovely pub, nice grounds. Interior was lovely but this was spoilt by the dirty windows. The food was typical pub grub. I had Cajun chicken which was really dry, I couldn’t get the knife through it.
