Bad experience. We went last night, 3 of us nearly 60, with my son as part of celebrating his 25th birthday, and with 2 of his 25 yo friends. We bought drinks for most of us, but one of the friends had nipped to the loo so we still had her drink to buy. I was surprised just how determinedly, and in a not friendly way, their IDs were checked. I'd sort of assumed a little bit of a friendly comment when I said it was my son's 25th - but his driving licence was checked carefully with no suggestion of a 'happy birthday' or anything. With this unfriendly approach, I was beginning to regret our choice of pub, but they went and found a table and I went to buy the last person's drink. Like the other two, she is 25 but had left her ID behind.. she doesn't get asked often now she said. Not only was she not allowed a drink she wasn't even allowed in the pub FFS. So we all had to stand out on the street to finish our drinks - it was a chilly night and it's not a nice street. What a shitty attitude. And don't give me a 'the law is the law' response. The law says people under 18 while Challenge 25 is discretionary, and you can use your brains when it's obviously a group of people who are 7 years older than what the law says and, very obviously, not in the least bit out to get pissed, being with their parents. For the brief moment we sat down, the music was good. I'd heard it was good, so I was a little surprised by how quiet the pub was .. good Irish music, not much atmosphere ... I wonder why. I'll be recommending that people try one of an awful lot of other pubs that are a whole lot more friendly.

We had an amazing evening, we didn't get to have a meal here as we were there on a night the kitchen was closed, but the vibe and entertainment were fantastic. Totally enjoyed ourselves.

We popped in for a couple of drinks around midday as my brother in law and nephew reckon it's the best place to go for a Guinness! And it is. It was really quiet when we visited but that's all good. A quaint little pub.

Uno de los empleados de la cocina irrumpió en el área del bar donde estaba parado para pedir una bebida. Lo ignoré , pero en su camino de regreso gritó “¡¿quieres salir del maldito camino! ! ” Le pregunté si estaba bromeando, lo que claramente no era, y me dijo “sal del maldito camino la próxima vez”. Uno de mis amigos habló con el gerente que dijo que lo escuchó todo y se disculpó por su comportamiento. El gerente me dijo que el miembro del personal estaba demasiado avergonzado para venir y disculparse conmigo y se le ofreció una bebida gratis, que solo podía ser un tiro. Este hombre definitivamente no debería trabajar con el público o en un pub ocupado si no tiene modales o paciencia.

Nice enough staff. Really unclean though, dirty tables and the whole place just seemed unkempt and sticky. Food mediocre, more vg options please.

Sometimes peaceful, sometimes chaotic, but always warm-hearted, this slightly tucked away pub has been a vibrant part of Brighton town centre for as long as I can remember.

Omg this bar was so filthy bar tables glasses walls toilets went here last month and it was same gave it another chance and toilets looked like not been cleaned in months shame as used to be great venue

Good looking Irish Pub. My brother, who is a Guinness connoisseur, reliably tells me this is the best Guinness in brighton. Lots of screens up for the sport. Plenty of little private seating areas too.

The Guinness was fabulous!!! Not expecting bar staff to be cussing and vaping behind the bar. Really poor. Place needed a hoover and wires exposed in the restroom.

Favourite Irish pub in Brighton, if you want proper pints of Guinness, this is your pub! Always a nice vibe, occasionally shows sports and hosts live music, and even better it's got a late lisence so you won't be left feeling high and dry on a late night out.

Great place to watch the Rugby. Lively and fun.

Cheapest Irish drinking hole there is in Brighton (not comparing it with Witherspoons). The pub is noisy, smelly and always full of people. Be careful when you are making payments. This aside, a really cheap place to get drinks so why not!

Real mixed here…staff, Guiness, and vibe are great. But, I just want to let them know that the toilet mould and general cleanliness is not acceptable. Incredible neglect considering public actually use this room, see pictures. Aside that, beer and craic great.

Fantastic bar staff working at this pub. I’ve been here several times over the past few months and have always been treated with respect, and fun conversation. Best Guinness in town and great pub atmosphere. Cheers to Caleb and Kate especially!

It was a lovely pub trip the store was clean and the atmosphere was lovely as well the staff were super friendly and helpful there was plenty of space aswell and the design of the pub make the place come alive and the love music was an amazing touch

Guinness not as good as people say

Terrible experience this evening. Arrived with my wife for a pint, unfortunately when we came up to the door and opened it, the doorman put his foot against it, preventing me from opening the door..With an extremely sarcastic tone he opened the door and kept asking How we were? A bit taken aback, to be honest. After a few seconds of just staring and then saying oh come on in.. I said no, we would go somewhere else? If it was his idea of a joke, it wasn't very funny. Too aggressive and unwelcoming. Have been before fir some great pints of Guinness. But this is too far. Really bad experience. No doubt he is costing the Fiddlers business.

Gluten free ale, yay. And I was going to have a Guinness until I spotted they have Kronenburg which is becoming harder to find these days.

No food currently which was a bit of a disappointment but not a big issue. Good selection of beers so plenty to keep us happy and a big screen to watch the footy on. Very much an old school boozer, toilets could use a refit though...

Cheap drinks way into the night, can't knock it. Good fun on open mic nights. Might want to avoid the bathrooms however so don't get caught out if ya know what I mean.

Not my cup of tea but I went with a party of people. The pub was ok and the atmosphere was good if you like Irish music and the rebel songs.

Doorstaff was quite confrontational, thankfully barteam where quite polite. Irish theme bar, very quiet when visited but have known it to be quite lively & great place watch rugby

Off the main Street, from fiddler's elbow is a gem of a bar. I visited on a very quiet Monday afternoon. Great pints, friendly bar staff and a wide selection on the menu. I can see this placed having great atmosphere on a busy evening. I may have to return.

We have been here go watch the rugby and enjoy a few drinks on many occasions. It has a fun, lively atmosphere and the staff are really good. Also good pie and peas.

A proper pub serves the best guinness in Brighton

Went there with my son on a Monday evening for a Guinness and some traditional Irish music. Both were truly excellent! The band sat round a table in the corner and played traditional reels and jigs in the modest way I remember seeing in Dublin pubs. The Guinness was equally smooth. We'll be back for more to be sure!

Ended up there before going out out for a work do, where I was introduced to a baby Guinness which was a delight. Pretty nice little pub, was a bit too small for the 12 of us out but that wasn't the pubs issue! Would go back again for a swift half

Absolutely terrible St Patrick’s evening. Awful door man, insisted 32 year old son in law went and got id, bar staff asking who we were buying drinks for and further Id, I’m 52. To top it all off, singer rarely donned an Irish tune and as an insult to the Irish was belting out sweet Caroline. Such a shame as had an amazing St Patrick’s night there a few years ago.

Really enjoyed the walnut and beetroot pastry Sunday roast! Large servings of flavourful veg, plenty of gravy. 2 vegetarian options and 4? meat ones. Good service also.

Our group deliberately booked a later Sunday lunch so that we can have a prompt meal but enjoy the rest of the afternoon at the pub. We had to wait over an hour for our food and although my meat was delicious, there was a lack of vegetables and the Yorkshire pudding was more a pancake....an afterthought by the kitchen staff or was that what was left? The vegetarian choice did not have a Yorkshire pudding!

Booked a table for 4 early on a Friday night. The place was very busy, but table was waiting and ready for us. Very good staff who were quick and efficient. A good menu which was at a decent price. A good selection of beers. This is a nice happy pub with a good interior and nice clients. Well worth a visit.

Went in for a drink on Sunday night, the dark haired female staff member was very rude no interest in who they were serving, no greeting, stopped pouring one of our drinks mid service, while they continued their chat with the rest of the staff, once finished pouring they did not say anything just stuck the card machine in my face, I guess that was their way of telling me how much I owed. No eye contact, no hello, no thank you, no words offered at any point. Once transaction complete they then sat down on a stool behind the bar and continued a conversation with their friends at the bar, maybe someone needs to remember that when you are at work in the service industry you are actually supposed to talk to the customers as well

Not been there in a few years but my friends were playing as usual on a Monday night. Great music. I have always known the place as a dive and would never eat there and yes the toilets smell. However, £17.60 for a pint of beer and a red wine is too much. I rang to ask them if they advertise their prices - they don't . The woman I spoke to on the phone was very rude and really she needs a bit of customer relations training. So farewell to the Irish session on a Monday night. This is not a typical Irish pub.

Tremenda decepcion. Reservamos una mesa para cenar, y cuando llegamos nos dijeron que la cocina estaba cerrada. ACTUALIZAR LA PAGINA WEB y el sistema de reservas. Me parece una falta de cuidado hacia los clientes que no lo avisen en la pagina web, en Google Maps o cuando haces la reserva. Una pena. Los precios de las cervezas son mas caras que en Londres y el camarero nos trato fatal, fingiendo que no nos entendia cuando hablabamos en ingles. Habia escuchado que Brighton era una ciudad muy abierta, pero senti muchos comportamientos anti extranjeros. Ademas el bar huele mal, las sillas incomodas y el ambiente es lo peor.

Touts itself as having a great pint. This is a lie. Bubbles in the head, greasy glass, and the lines needed to be cleaned. Atmo is… decent, but this is a dive bar, not a snug, clean, proper Irish pub. Not cheap, either.
