My headline is the only fault I can possibly find with this proper pub/bar… Fabulous staff, fantastic food & fair beer prices. I won’t hold it against them about their lack of brown sauce🤣

Fantastic food with wonderful service. Definitely worth a revisit. We were looking for somewhere to house 8 people plus 2 dogs. Elsewhere locally were unable to book us in but I am pleased this was the case! Upon calling and explaining what we are after I was told they had the perfect table for us! Spot on especially in a hot Bank Holiday weekend. Good selection of drinks including a very drinkable low alcohol beer and home made lemonade. A reasonable selection of meals on the menu but we were there for a roast so it was a variety of beef, chicken and lamb. All served with the expected veg offerings plus red cabbage. Decent sized portions with plenty of meats, large Yorkshire and wonderful gravy. Didn't have room for a dessert! Staff were very welcoming and I would recommend a visit to anyone looking for a great Sunday roast.

Unfortunately we came here again recently and the food was low quality and not even close to being worth the price as a result. Disappointing, and won't be going back

Absolutely love this pub. The staff here are so helpful, friendly, and fun! There’s a welcoming atmosphere the moment you walk through the door 🫶🏻 The Westbourne is a relatively modern looking pub, with lofty ceilings, plenty of natural light, and ambient fairy lights strung around the rafters for the evenings. There are several tables outside too for enjoying good weather. I have to say, this could be the best Sunday roast in Hove. The vegetable wellington was exceptional - packed with tasty vegetables and pearl barley, and wrapped in the most gorgeous flakey pastry. All the trimmings were fantastic (crispiest roast potatoes I’ve had on a pub roast!) and no skimping on the gravy! I also indulged in a side of pigs in blankets, which were really flavoursome and a good portion for the price. There is a huge selection of beers on tap, including some quirky choices for the more adventurous palate. The cocktails here are great too 😋 The Westbourne is spacious, dog friendly, has very slick bathrooms, and even the Sussex-favourite pub entertainment, ‘toad’. I highly, highly recommend this lovely pub 🙌🏻💗

Good lively pub with good selection of beer, expensive however

It is a beautiful place for a drink and socialise. Food was amazing, served hot, and by great people. Bar is spacious, friendly, and inviting. Definitely will go back next week. Highly recommended

Cant judge the food as just had drinks passing through, what I saw inc. Menu looked good but would have liked more vegan choices beyond falafel options. Still love the pub, great laid back feel , VERY vegan friendly draft range beyond normal Molson Coors range that are in many pubs these days (not vgn btw) with decent friendly service and even happy to do hot drinks inc a tea for a des driver. Nice one would def return

Really nice pub with lots of internal space and a beer garden. Dogs and well behaved children friendly. Good range of beers including a cask bitter. Didn't try the food (next time we definitely will) but what we saw looked very nice. Nice relaxing atmosphere and pleasant staff.

Went here for my 55th birthday lunch. Really friendly staff, excellent food at reasonable prices. Would highly recommend.

Average pub...we ate so they took drinks orders several times at table but then despite not being that busy took ages to bring to table. Would have preferred just to have gone to the bar for drinks.

First thing is the staff that served us were brilliant. Very helpful, attentive and fun. Food is OK. I wouldn’t rush back personally. Portions are alright. The ketchup they serve is the absolute worst. It’s almost transparent and has a vile taste. I never get why places serve cheap cr*p like that. The place is spacious and was very noisy on a Friday night. We went for a family meal and couldn’t hear each other. Not their fault but worth knowing if you want a peaceful evening out.

AVOID EATING THERE! Had dinner there last night, it was truly awful. Chicken kebab, salad and flatbread, with fries. The fries had been fried so many times, they were husks full of nothing, as fried so many time there was no potato left inside. The salad was ok, though I had to ask for dressing..........the kebabs were not kebabs on a skewer, it was dry pieces of chicken placed around the plate, they were rubbery and appeared to have been microwaved. The bread was actually inedible, and was sent back 3 times until I gave up. I complained to the lady that served us on our way out, and she simply said 'sorry'. Its our local.......so very disappointed, as we wont ever go there again............

Nothing short of phenomenal. The friendliest of staff and patrons. Dog friendly and an incredible atmosphere. The highlight of the town for me!

Great pub, really knowledgeable and friendly staff, good food with good vegan options. There are regularly changing special ales and beers which are worth checking out (albeit pretty pricey, but still good!). We have visited a few times and it's always a good atmosphere.

Lovely atmosphere, great service and really friendly staff. My only reservation was that there were still many babies and very young kids (one sleeping on the bench, so we couldn't sit down at an available table for two...). I know it's a local pub for families etc, but it was 7pm on a Friday evening, packed, and we couldn't find a place to sit down with my companion, because it was still dominated by families with VERY young kids. We found somewhere eventually and had a great time but if anything , I'd have preferred to have a downtime at that time of the day/time in a grown up environment ;)

The best roast on Sunday in a town overwhelmed with roasts. Four meat choices, tremendous, well cooked vegetables with great roast spuds and yorkshire. Service is perfect.

The revamp is lovely and the new layout works quite well. Excellent range of beers cider AND wine. Food good.

Nice place here - good food. Seriously grumpy barman/server. I mean SERIOUSLY to the point of it being funny. There is grumpy though and then there is rude. It was the latter. No complaints about the venue or the food. Cost of a 250ml glass of wine was £12.70. Their "large" was 175 ml at £8.75. Stand and Deliver!

Great selection of beers and v. pasionate and knowledgable staff. Really nice atmosphere. Roasts are great as well. Weekday menu isn't great, bit of an odd selection, was well cooked though, but wouldn't come here for that menu but that's just personal preference.

Great spot for good beer and food at value for money prices. Selection of drinks and food comprehensive and food was well prepared, fresh and super tasty all served up by a helpful and friendly team. Loads of space both inside and outside and following a recent refurb the place is bright and open plan and very clean. They even refurbished the loo's which are also super clean.

Went to the westbourne with some friends for my birthday, I just wanted a casual meet up, the bar staff were brilliant, very friendly had a laugh, food was superb. Was a really nice atmosphere in there. Thanks guys

Nice little find. Great beer selection and plenty of space and comfortable seating even in the middle of a baking heatwave. Can't comment on food, we were only there for the cold refreshing beer.

Absolutely love the Westbourne! I hadn't been for a while as it's quite far from where I live but the Sunday roast was so good that I am in fact going back again today! The staff were very friendly attentive. The whole experience was great! Thank you :-)

Love this pub, great service, amazing range of great beer (& cider), fantastic food in a chilled dog & family-friendly atmosphere that keeps you coming back.

Nicely decorated pub, but service was a bit disappointing. I ordered a veggie roast and this is what I received, apparently they had run out of veggies but nothing was told to me. If people could communicate better between themselves, I don't mind having extra potatoes instead but that option was not even offered until I myself asked.

We came here with some friends on Sunday. The table ordered a mix of Roast dinners and I ordered a selection of starters, the crispy saracher cauliflower bites, halloumi fries and a sausage roll. All of these were excellent. My wife’s Beef wasn’t great but that’s being picky. The belly pork was amazing, as was the lamb. Really good selection of Beers. Great service too. We will definitely be back.

This is my local gastro pub. They have a good wine list. The space is on the large side. The food is very good. The venue was fully refurbished very recently.

"The longer I live in Brighton the more I realise that some of Brighton’s best pubs aren’t actually in central Brighton and this one is worth getting on a bus for...Personally I would love to be able to call this pub my local. The sheer variety of beer options plus the well chosen local brewers and national brands, show a level of beer enthusiasm in the stock decisions, I would trust this pub to have 4-5 great beer options any day of the week and that makes it an outstanding pub in my eyes." Lovely locals pub with a nice selection of ales, cider and spirits.

Great place for food and drink. Loved the vibe. Just be careful which friends you pick to go with, my best friend ditched me for her new boyfriend so i was sat on a table on my own. But my vodka and orange juice was the best part of the night!

Nice place, nice atmosphere, food is alright; restaurant section is very overlooked in terms of service.

Decent enough pub. Food isn’t the best after several tries. Service is hit or miss. Some folks are lovely but others act like you’re an inconvenience if you come to the bar and order a drink. A lot of folks working there just don’t seem happy; seems like they have an identity crisis between trying to be a local pub or a wam bam thank you ma’am bar. Ordered the lamb kebabs one night and they were out of lamb so replaced it with chicken without telling me first - the replacement didn’t work for the recipe and wasn’t really edible. And they still charged me for lamb. There’s friendly enough locals who come round and seems popular with young parents with kids. The space is big and accommodates big parties. Some cheerier staff and more consistent quality with food would be a good upgrade.

Really really disappointed with Sunday lunch . Eaten here before no issues loved it. Yesterday roast beef resembled old shoe leather I couldn’t cut it - it was either well over cooked or has sat left alone on a warming plate for too long. I had probably a pint of gravy which drowned my entire meal - I did comment to the staff he said oh sorry about that - that’s not the way to do it Love the barman and his drinks but not happy with the service for a customer that goes in regularly

We live by the sea but what a shame about the fish and chips. Maybe frozen and defrosted but completely absent of any flavour . Oven chips and peas in a bowl. Shame.

Lovely pub but the staff were not very friendly, it felt like they didn’t want to be there? We had food which was great but one of the staff took my plate before I had finished, without asking which made us feel like they didn’t want us to be there either!

What a fantastic place to visit for Sunday lunch. The most friendly efficient staff who were attentive but in a brilliantly helpful way. The food was also fabulous. I had the vegetarian option which was delicious. Our table was reserved for 3pm but we were in no way made to feel rushed to leave despite this. Absolutely recommend and we will definitely be back. I enjoyed my time here. Perfect family pub with great friendly staff in a warm, cosy environment. The philly cheese steak I had was delicious, and my family raved about their meals too. We ended it off with some deserts and found them to be sweet treats from heaven. Lovely vibe and such amazing staff, we felt looked after. Thank you!

People with children in pubs is a pain in the bum but josie made us feel so welcome and helped us out massively with table swaps. Such a nice gesture as I always hated people bringing kids in and especially on Nye. Thanks very much so appreciated. Excellent Porter - beer not josie

The Westbourne is a really unique and fabulous combo of a true neighbourhood pub (that’s super friendly and welcoming) AND a real dining treat because the food’s so good. The staff are fab (love Toby!) and it’s a nice big airy space that never feels cramped. Pub quiz on Tuesday nights is also fun. Ps Don’t miss the brownie pudding!

At the Westbourne last night for ther Christmas brass concert and singalong. We arrived early and ate in there too. Sausage and mash absolutely delicious in fact best I've had dining out. Staff were fantastic couldn't have been more friendly and helpful with the ticketed seats. Loads of really great beers and lagers and some I'd never heard of all good. The concert was a great start to Christmas and the MC was made for the job. Try to get a ticket next time round...get them early because it sells out

Sunday roast is nice enough as roasts go. Although the cauliflower cheese is not the best. The atmosphere is vibrant yet relaxed. But sadly the service is very disappointing. The pub can’t decide whether it’s table or bar service. So does neither. Staff mostly chatting amongst themselves. Had to ask for everything three times. Is a shame.

I visit this pub on a regular basis and the last two times I have been left disappointed - the staff have changed, no longer smiling and welcoming but arrogant and miserable. It feels like you’ve walked in on an argument between staff - their wine is expensive and the kitchen isn’t always open - you can’t ever just “pop in” and sit at a table for a drink because they have an annoying policy of booking a table in advance - it’s a pub, not a restaurant!

Rude, sarcastic staff. Overpriced, mediocre food and expensive drinks. Avoid. Customers are treated with distain.

Came here for Sunday roast and was not disappointed. All I would suggest is if removing a yorkshire maybe add an extra roastie... otherwise really nice outdoor space, calm environment and family and dog friendly. Thoroughly enjoyed

I have given five stars because I adore Milk Stout. A wonderfully tasty pint from the Bristol Beer Factory. However, a tad at the top of the price range, £5.95. Loads of other beers, inc Gun's Best. The best loos ever, although plunged into utter darkness whilst urinating. Lots of waving my arms and, let there be light, so at least I could again see my tiny winky .... also this adorable public house has the ancient Sussex pub game, Toad In The Hole but only on Mondays, as quote, "it's too noisy" to allow on other days. Wow. Either you have toad, or you don't. So, really, three stars but worth five due to the magnificant refurbishment. Also, food, food, food to delight. Three or five stars, absolutely worth a visit in my humble ... Take care. Love to the World. XXX

Wow! What a fabulous surprise. Firstly, beautifully redecorated - inside is now a large and airy space. The outside space is perfect for a summer's day. We all ordered the Sunday roast - the beef and the lamb. Probably the best roast we've had! An excellent selection of gins and beers with friendly staff. We will definitely be returning!!

The food was nice but a bit overpriced for what you get. The guy behind the bar who served me was as miserable as sin.

The food was really good but I have to say the service was awful and we didn't leave a tip which is a shame.

We have not been to this pub since it was refurbished. We called in today on the spur of the moment for just one drink. Bar staff are extremely helpful and friendly. I mentioned that this was an unplanned stop and that we had a dog with us. I was given a water bowl and handful of treats. We’ll plan to pop back for lunch some time as the food looked delicious. Loos were very clean. Only mentioned as some people have raised concerns.

Came here for a Sunday roast, lots of tables inside and and out nice outdoor space. Biggish portion of potatoes and veg but tiny amount of pork ridiculous was less than half a portion considering the price £16.50 for a roast isn’t worth the price, much better roasts for £14.50 average price for a good roast. Won’t be back for Sunday roast but staff friendly and good selection of drinks to choose from.

Excellent service, spacious area with plenty of rooms for prams. Dogs welcomed. The burger and the kebab were delicious
