The Connaught in Brighton and Hove

A good pub serving lovely food in a great location with a beautiful garden, I particularly enjoy Erdinger on tap ( maybe a little too much). Staff are always helpful polite and corteous aswell as very kind to the dog which goes a long way. On the one occasion I had a problem with something I left behind the team went above and beyond to get it sorted. Highly recommended.

Coffees well overpriced and the smallest scoop of ice cream I have ever had.

Came across a pie special menu for Thursday so went along to try it. Warm welcome, lovely staff. There was an a la carte menu but we both chose pies, I had steak with mash, my friend had chicken with chips. Proper pies, filling surrounded by pastry & both came with greens & choice of gravy. Delicious. We chose coffee after rather than desert which was good. Will definitely return.

Came for drinks and nibbles. We’ve never been before so we thought we would pop in to see if their garden area had a little bit of sun and it definately did not disappoint. From the outside you wouldnt think that they have such a big outside area but its quite a nice little sun spot if you wanna have a drink and just chill. We had some fries, korean pork belly skewers that just falls off the bone when you slice into it and chicken croquettes. Only thing i would say was that the seating area closest to the gate should have cushions on it as some of the seating area there has wood splinters sticking up and is slightly uncomfortable when sitting if youre wearing a dress or skirt. Overall an enjoyable experience! Would come again for the summer once it even warmer!

Brilliant service from the person behind the bar. A nice, well-appointed and clean pub with a very pleasant beer garden to the rear. I sound like an estate agent. Oh well, trust me anyway.

Big pub that seems to focus more on food than drinks but friendly service and quite a big outdoor area with heaters

Excellent Sunday lunch. Good portions, well cooked and tasty. Great dessert too - leaving feeling very full! Service was attentive but not over the top.

An AMAZING pub for celebrating a big birthday (70th) this weekend…hired the pub out on a Saturday afternoon…the buffet they cooked from scratch was totally delicious and extremely generous portions of scrumptiousness! The staff welcomed us with Prosecco on arrival and they were just so so friendly and helpful right from initial booking…nothing was too much trouble! The at atmosphere and ambience was perfect, especially as it was quite a grey day out ( fire was on, candles and flowers on the tables) Needless to say..we would highly recommend The Connaught! Thank you all! ☺️☺️☺️

Great pub go there on a Sunday for the pub quiz.

Walked past this pub several times, but this was my first trip. Location was chosen by one of my friends, as she was assured that they served the best roasts... The staff were friendly, the atmosphere relaxing, and the menu was plentiful, catering for all tastes. The wine list was also extensive. When our plates arrived we all commented that they needed larger one - and the plates were not small! We had four different roasts, and all were delicious. The one down side was that not all was piping hot. We asked for extra gravy, and they came - but as the small gravy boats used were cold, the gravy cooled down too fast: I suggest that they heat up the boats before adding the gravy!

Good choice, nice refurbed beer garden

I was looking for a traditional English steak pie, and they do serve it, but only on Thursdays! Despite my disappointment, I decided to stay and try their “Festive Pie”. Which is basically our U.S. Thanksgiving dinner in a pie! Turkey, cranberries, and much more in a lovely pie crust. Served with seasoned mashed potatoes, and veg. The atmosphere is a little stark and modern for me, and due to the hard floors and sparse walls, it proved to be quite noisy. The staff were very good, polite and professional (not the norm in the UK). And of course the establishment was clean. All in all, I’d say I’d eat there again… But on Thursday next time! 😊

Had lunch with family members on a Saturday. We had eaten a decent dinner there some 9 years ago and then went to a "pie night" 2 years ago. One of the pies was still part-frozen when we were served. This lunch was quite appalling - the nachos were uneatable, soggy and greasy and lacking spicy sauce. The fish and chips cost almost as much as in a couple of really good local restaurants but were nothing like as good. Will not be going back.

Best Sunday roast I’ve had in Sussex so far, and I’ve had many . I came here a few weeks ago and had a 10/10 Sunday roast, but I wanted to come again to see if it was a one off before leaving a review. Well, I just had a roast again and it was another 10 out of 10! The pork belly, crackling, Yorkshire pudding and potatoes are in a league of their own. Highly recommend.

So nice! The staff made you feel welcome and appreciated. Felt like a local and enjoyed a lively afternoon dinner. Highly recommend the bao buns and potato wedges.

Great place not only for a roast but everyday good pub meals. You can tell this just by how busy it is.

Came here for a Sunday roast and we were very disappointed. All i could taste was garlic. The chef added garlic to everything- Even the gravy had garlic in it. The Yorkshire pudding was raw and the pork overcooked.

An excellent roast dinner! We were really impressed with this pub - the food was excellent with generous portions and very reasonably priced. Lovely atmosphere and the staff were very friendly.

Amazing atmosphere,the bar staff and management, very friendly and nothing is too much trouble the food is delicious something to suit all tastes. The South facing garden is second to none with lots of interesting borders. I can't praise The Connaught enough , I will be back .

I’ve come in a few times and love this place but my most recent visit was on a completely different level and I had to leave a review. Hats off especially to the new member of staff, Daisy - I couldn’t believe it when she said it was only her first week! We had such a nice chat about dogs after she recommended the amazing veggie nachos (10/10) - no idea how she pulled off having a good chat with me while looking after a pub full of customers flawlessly but I felt so welcome and looked after I’ll be back asap and bringing my parents! Really hard to find such a friendly place with the quality food to boot. Thank you guys

I visited the Connaught this evening with a cousin - who I’d not seen for about 5 years - while she was in town. I wanted to go somewhere nice but not too pricey. The Connaught delivered above and beyond! The service was perfect: not too intrusive, yet sufficiently attentive. The food was delicious. We all (table of 4) had something different, yet everything arrived at the same time, and perfectly presented, delicious, and hot! Can’t wait to come back and try more of the menu. For now, I can recommend the hake!

Gorgeous place with a lovely beer garden out back. Went on a Sunday for their roast and it didn't disappoint. Meat was melt-in-the-moith, toasties were crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle, veg was plentiful and the gravy was perfect. All washed down with a delightful house red. Bangin'

Went here last minute for a roast today and it’s was delicious, perfectly cooked and plentiful. The pork belly was tender, crackling very tasty and crispy, and the Yorkshire’s were huge. Also good you don’t get charged for extra gravy. Service was brilliant and Bloody Mary spot on too. Thank you! 🙏

Great local pub with a good selection of drinks and food

Was on our way to the seafront, Stopped to grab a quick drink. They didn't do plastics so we could takeaway our drink. So ended up staying for a drink in the garden. Glad we did. Nice garden and atmosphere. Definitely recommend.

This has become my go to on a Sunday afternoon. Food is fab. I usually get a roast dinner. Lovely garden to eat out on a nice summers day. Just a walk down to the beach to walk off your full tummy. Brilliant!

Had probably one of my best meals here.I only wish we had found the place earlier in our stay.

A neighbourhood gem 💎 Came here for a roast on Sunday and was really blown away! Some of the nicest roast chicken I’ve had in a pub anywhere 🎊 The portions are huge and the service was quick, despite the pub being relatively busy. The Connaught is very dog friendly and has a gorgeous garden out the back, filled with stunning flowers and plenty of seating options - including cosy covered booths. I would not hesitate to come back here - especially to sit in the pub garden on a sunny day! ☀️

Food was amazing, recommend the Korean pork belly and the chicken thigh burger. Also tried the squid, wings and the chilli beef , top quality. Service was top notch too and offered parts of the menu they recommended.

Recommended by friends for Sunday lunch but we just wanted dinner on a Saturday evening. Very empty when we arrived but sat down and ordered food. My friends both had fish pie which they said was tasty but very small portion for £17. I had nachos which were quite burnt and plopped on the plate. Who gets nachos wrong! My husband had a pie which he said was ok but nothing special. Staff friendly but would certainly not go back for the food!

Such a lovely pub, always liked going, the food and atmosphere are nice but the managers response to children and her militancy and rigidness based around them leaving on the dot of 7 is brutal in comparison to many other places in brighton. We understand the rules on licensing but if meals are still being finished it’s really unnecessary. The handling and tone and attitude was really rude, being the customer and her making us feel so bad is terrible when her staff should have flagged it up before hand. Totally ruined the evening meal. Being rushed out the door at 6.59 is just bonkers. So many places around brighton and hove are just so lovely in comparison. I’m so sorry you are so rude hope you aren’t like that all the time.

Lovely pub, friendly staff, excellent Sunday roasts - popular pub with some nice seating in the garden with umbrella’s. Could have done with a few more umbrella’s in the courtyard area.

My favorite Sunday lunch venue - small sized roast is perfect and great value. Lots of veggies and nothing too much trouble. The lovely garden with protective booths is a fabulous location

Obnoxious unruly kids playing in the lovely flower beds despite the signs saying not to, that aside decent beer and good food.... todays parents 🙄🙄

In town to visit my daughter and had a lovely meal at the Connaught. The food was delicious but I wanted to leave a review to praise the staff who were very friendly and engaging and made us feel very welcome. A really good fun night out, highly recommended.

Went for Thursday Pie night.. group of 10 table service- good Wait for food - bit too long Steak + Stilton pie - massively overcooked, charred , too small - solid pastry, no hint of stilton... served with a little bit of soggy cabbage. Average mash. left feeling disappointed!

Nice local feeling boozer - good service, nice friendly atmosphere. My only petty complaint would be the tables are so low that anybody who is quite tall can barely get their legs under them, which means constantly banging knees every time you sit down! But we had a lovely afternoon here - and watched England beat Ireland in the rugby with a kick in the final seconds (which the Irish landlord took surprisingly well! :) )

This place had a gorgeous roast dinner, and was an amazing atmosphere for me and my family. My dad had the three meats roast and he was very happy with his choice when he was finished (as well as being sufficiently stuffed). Our waiter, I think their name was Evelyn, was very hard working and was very available despite it being quite busy. This was a brilliant place and I can't wait to come back!

01/01/2024 Been there twice. - Friendly staff. - Pleasant and engaging customer service. - Relaxed and decent crowd - Decent food. - The toilets were clean. There was a draught from the garden side, that couldn't be stopped and the heating wasn't working really well generally. That's why the four stars for the atmosphere. I would go there again.

The best Sunday roast we know in Hove. Great selection. All perfectly cooked. Generous portions. Great service. Lovely atmosphere. Overall - superb!

Great atmosphere and staff, sadly my pork belly came as a totally mushy slop of fat with pretty much no meat and zero crackling. Was an inedible, undercooked mess. Everything else was lovely but was very disappointed considering the price

If you want to go for a meal, be overcharged, then when the staff realise their mess up - have them patronise you and make it out that their incompetence is your fault … this is the perfect place to go!! Along with several other cock-ups in evening that I could have forgiven. Although I admit, the food was lovely and I can’t fault the chef at all.

I love this pub. Great in summer as the garden lovely. Warm inside in winter. Food great. I love the small plates. Korean pork belly lovely and chicken wings very spicy and tasty. But messy. Staff always friendly. Great place.

Easily one of the best pubs in the Hove area. Professional, friendly staff and an ever delicious menu you can always rely on, augmented by a diverse selection of specials. Whether it's a quick pint or a full meal this is always one of my go to picks. They also do a killer quiz on a Sunday night.

We were a group of eight plus a dog and they happily put tables together in the bar area (dogs not allowed in the restaurant area) and looked after us very well. Difficult to recommend specific dishes as we all ate different ones which were all enjoyed.

We had a wonderful meal here on a Thursday night, which turned out to be pie night! The venison pie was amazing and steak and ale was also excellent. Choices of truffle and cheese mash, thick chips or even marmite thick chips which needs further investigation. Great service, and a good pint of Guinness to match the excellent grub. The normal ( not pie night specials ) menu also looks great with something for everyone!

The surroundings and ambience were relaxed, complemented by attentive service, friendly approach and fabulous food. We were a party of two couples, looking for a friendly lunch. I had fish and chips which was delicious. Two of the party had a chilli beef special which was greeted with high compliments. The last in our party had the Chickpea main, also enjoyed. All in all it was a good lunch with super service and friendly faces - very pleased - THANKS.

Great little back street pub. Didn't try their food, and the Ale choice was a bit limited. But a good ambience and a lovely garden.

The Connaught is in a great prime central Hove location with Church Road restaurants & shops at one end & the lovely Hove seafront at the other end . The venue is nice , well presented and clean and the garden at the rear is nice to sit out in. I’ve eaten there several times & whilst the food is not at the Ginger Pig level it’s usually fine . Unfortunately today when we popped in for a Sunday roast with our kids , it was a big letdown . The roast beef was fatty and had a stringy texture to it and lacked any flavour . The kale & parsnip were under cooked & the roast potatoes tasted like they had been reheated & were soggy. As previously the roasts had been fine , I asked one of the waitresses whether they had recently changed meat supplier but she didn’t seem to know and no one came back to me with an answer. It’s a great pub for a drink and the staff are friendly enough but they do need to sort out the quality of their beef and ensure they have a kitchen that can turn out good quality plates of food on a regular basis .

I was very disappointed by my recent visit to The Connaught. Our food arrived about 3 minutes after ordering, meaning it could not possibly have been freshly cooked or prepared! The food served was cold, no warmth at all, and the vegetarian pie I ordered was essentially a pukka pie which was poorly cooked and disgusting. Not the quality expected and extremely disappointing. We will not be returning.

Maybe I’ve been unlucky, but I find there are very few Sunday roasts you have in a pub that compare to one you make at home (unless you’re a terrible cook). The roasts at The Connaught, however, are incredible- we had lamb shanks and the meat was melt-in-your-mouth falling off the bone. Plus pigs in blankets made with full size sausages (my Nan would call these “elephants in duvets”), in a rich gravy- absolute heaven. Top it off with great pints in a beautiful beer garden, and there aren’t many better ways to spend a Sunday. Just be careful the seagulls don’t get your Yorkshires.

Rapidly becoming our goto place for a decent plate of quality food and drinks. Esp sitting the garden in the summer evening's. Menu is always a great choice of amazing food amd very dog friendly

A very good pie. Several options to choose from and a fuller menu for other choices.

Used to eat here and the food and the menu was excellent. Now The Menu is Poor not many choices, and the food is very much average but extremely expensive. Not worth it anymore.

We love visiting and have visited many times. Love the menu and their chicken wings with Brighton blue Mayo. It is amazing. Also Really like that they have specials each day. Makes it more interesting! Thursday & Friday is half price fizz too which always is tempting. Very dog friendly in there and our little dog loves being able to sit on the sofa with us as some places don’t like that.

Very nice Sunday lunch, using high quality local ingredients. Fairly priced. Very nice and recommended.

Louise and her team couldn’t have done more for us, today. Considering we only called this morning to book, they pulled the stops out to accommodate our group which included young children and a wheelchair user. They made my Nan’s 94th Birthday very special. We had a lovely table and enjoyed fantastic, home made food and enjoyed lovely staff - all of them were friendly, helpful and warm. Brilliant job. Many thanks.

Recommended by family we visited for an evening meal. Telephone booking checked that we had no children or dogs (evening requirement). We were early but no problems with our table. As this was a catch up with the other couple we dithered over drinks and ordering, both accepted without a fuss. We ordered 3 starters, 2 Korean ribs and 1 aubergine. Mains were 2 steak pies, one hake and one lamb flat bread. All presented well, nicely cooked and very tasty. Recommended and will come again.
