Very kind and welcoming service! Some of my favorite coffee! I used to come here allot 4 years ago and coming back feels just as good!

A must-try café in the heart of Queen West. The ambiance is chill (they even have a patio!),the coffee is always fire, and they have the nicest baristas you’ll meet! They are legit so friendly that I always look forward to coming here .. Also, they make the meanest oat milk latte and date squares 🔥

I was excited to try because of the good reputation, but was slightly let down. I ordered a cortado which was ok but nothing exceptional, the cafe was pretty narrow with not a lot of seating options and behind the bar looked cluttered and unorganized. It’s a decent place but I can’t say I understand the hype, will probably try again at another location.

- Black coffee was flavorful, definitely above average. The to-go coffee cups looks pretty awesome with black and red - Plenty of seating including back patio - The area is right at a T shaped intersection and kind of busy, but the interior is quite welcoming - The barista was very kind. Customer service doesn’t get enough credit these days and the gentleman was very kind - Bathrooms were available to guests

Queer-positive, chill coffee spot with sweet and kind staff. Oat milk available. Pastries including vegan options available for purchase too.

The sign on Queen street proclaims that Hot Black serves the best coffee ever. Does it live up to the proclamation? It sort of does. The coffee itself is good but perhaps not the best ever. However, if you take some time to appreciate the homely atmosphere and talk to the friendly staff as you sip your coffee, you'll appreciate it even more.

Not wheelchair accessible, difficult to get in the door and there’s no room to maneuver and only high tables, no low accessible tables. Can’t review anything else as we didn’t get a chance to visit because there was no place for a wheelchair user to eat.

Good cappuccino. Probably not the best in town, but totally passable. Delicious breakfast cookie.

The coffee is so smooth. The back patio is nice, though be warned that, at least in winter, the firepit isn't there.

As a former Starbucks barista, there aren't that many tastes of coffee that I'm not familiar with ,and I usually enjoy my coffee one sip at the time to make it last longer. However, I have to admit the taste of ginger latte at the HotBlack is an out of the world experience that is extremely pleasantly surprising. It was so good I couldn't drink it slowly as I usually do ,and I drink the entire cup in less than 5 min. I would say if you are around and you have 5 min to have a unique experience of lifetime go here and order a ginger latte ☕

Looks like a hole in the wall, but not only does it feel bigger inside, but the warm Atmosphere, coffe and wonder people make it even better.

I really wanted to like this cafe but the chai latte was bland (the latte was too milky, so the chai flavour was weak). The raspberry jam cookie was great though. I liked the vibe of the place but probably won't come back. Limited seating is available.

Checking out the 'best coffee in town'! Cappuccino verdict: good, not extraordinary. Loved the anti-work, pro-chat vibe of the place. Plus the cup's color play is a visual treat!

It wasn’t the best coffee ever, in fact, one of the worst. My spouse and I ordered two 8oz drip coffee and it tasted very burnt and the cream that came with it was sour. Felt like drinking sour milk so after three sips, we threw it away.

Small size is really small But ginger brew latte is special. I will order this again next time. The ginger is not spicy at all. It’s not sweet and tastes good. Americano is like roasted coffee bean, and smell wonderful. Jam cookie is suggested by staff. Not sweet , flavorful, can order next time

This is one of Toronto's best cafés. But it distinguishes itself in that the proprietor trains her staff to pull great cappuccinos, which – in my humble opinion – is the primary ingredient in making a good cappuccino.

Love the drink but I did pay $10 for like 7 huge ice cubes a tiny cup - my matcha latte had a good 5 sips and it became nothing.

We stopped in Hot Black Coffee for a midday pick-me-up and as we walked in the door, the aroma of the freshly brewed coffee wafted through the air, instantly signaling the quality of what was to come. The coffee shop was so cute, customer service was on point, and their coffee awakened our senses, one sip at a time! We took our coffee to go so we could continue to explore Toronto!

I honestly feel awarding 5 out of 5 is wrong. Perfection is what that signifies. But that being said... The coffee was fantastic. Flat white. Regular milk. I do sugar rarely. But the coffee itself had a sweet finish. Perfect size and amount of milk. I see why this coffee spot is on top lists in Toronto.

Perfect espresso coffee taste. It took a good amount of wait time but it was worth it.

I don’t know about best coffee ever. I would say it’s just okay but that might be my fault for ordering a latte at place with “black coffee” in the name. I found it to not be strong enough and tasted mostly of milk. I also got a gluten free date bar that I didn’t realize was gluten free until after. It was really dry and didn’t hold together at all but again that might be my fault. There’s also not a lot of seating available; just the one big table and a few stools.

Really good coffee. Tasty pastries too. The staff are pretty friendly. There is a bit of seating and a nice comfy couch.

I recently had quite a nice experience here. This coffee shop is conveniently located and the prices are reasonable. The latte that I ordered was creamy and satisfying, although it was served slightly cold. I also ordered the chocolate beet loaf which was pretty good! It’s great that they offer a variety of vegan treats and dairy-free milk alternatives. It is a relatively small space, but the indoor seating could be arranged better to make the cafe more conducive for social outings.

Coffee is superb. Staff are lovely. The Sun Chai Latte is delicious as is the Ginger Brew. The baked goods are yummy too. Highly recommend this place.

Cozy cafe with great and very polite staff. The atmosphere of this place is awesome and if you seat in the couch you will not want to move until they close. I had the chocolate beets brownie (vegan option) and it knocked my socks out. They also host event for NTRC (running club). Overall, I had a great experience, the prices are good, and would recommend anyone around to visit them.

feels like it has gone down hill recently - used to come here all the time for their vegan sandwich but the last few times I’ve gone out of my way to go back and get it because of how good it was, it tasted completely different - went back in to ask if it had the same ingredients and they said it did, but it tasted like peanut butter rather than tahini and there was no miso taste at all. Sad to spend almost 10 dollars on a sandwich that isn’t consistent - probably ordered less since it’s their plant based option but us plant based folks have very few options and to experience disappointment over and over from an old favourite is always sad.

I've got to try out the drip coffee. It was very smooth and pleasant to drink. I'm giving 4 stars for now because I still have to go back and have some more coffee.

One of the best cafes along Queen street west. Drink selections are great, but food options are not abundant though. The 'hidden' backyard is truly a gem in the spring/summer time.

Cute cafe with an outdoor space to chill and relax in. The coffee is great and the staff are friendly. Prices are about what you’d expect at a Toronto coffee shop (i.e decent). Not having public wi-fi definitely sucks though, for anyone who wants to work while they eat and drink. But otherwise I enjoy this place.

This place is actually amazing. The patio in the back is peaceful and lovely, almost shocking to have a place like that in core downtown. The cortado was delicious and so was the peach and rosemary oat bar. The extra touch which I LOVED was that they served the cortado in a double walled glass, so it stayed warm as I sipped it slowly. Coffee getting cold before I get to finish it is a major ick for me, and this little detail puts this cafe at the top of the list for me.

The coffee bean they are using really good quality. Only a coffee addict can tell I guess. Friendly staff place is bit small but comfy.

The coffee is too sour, too hot, and overpriced. Over 6 bucks for a cortado with oat milk. Went there twice.

10 dollars for a latte. Don't serve soy milk or accept cash. Coffee tasted like warm cough syrup. Do not recommend.

Very cool vibe! One of the baristas was so kind, not only did he come to clean my coffee spill which was not even that much, but also he brought me a second coffee for free.

Loooooooooved their coffee! The shop was a bit too full of stuff to sell (not unlike SBUX) but less corporate... The baristas were very friendly and efficient... Which is good first thing in the morning 😊 Update: Forgot to say that they have colored pencils and drawing paper and books on the table to doodle on while you get caffeinated! That was fun.

Well who knew a Vanilla Latte and a Pistachio Brazilian Chocolate could make me come back to this place several times in a week? Absolutely brilliant coffee, the sweetest staff members, and a great environment to chill/ study/ catch up with friends/ or even gather your thoughts! Highly recommended 👏🏻👏🏻 Ohh and you have to try the Brazilian chocolate!

Really great coffee shop homely great place to talk and meet up with friends. Two young men working were helpful made me some tasty Sencha. The brownie was great would recommend for anyone looking for a hot drink.

Super cozy, nice selection of local craft beer. I'm not much of a coffee drinker, but my girlfriend said the americano she had was one of the best.

Great coffee and glad they had milk alternatives. Staff is also very friendly. Their jam cookie is quite good as well but was not expecting the hint of espresso. Their pu’er tea tasted a bit bland/ stale but overall great place for coffee and treats. Curious as to what ingredients are in the jam cookie (@ owner) 👀

Nice place. With good coffee and friendly staff plus lots of goodies! I always try my favorite drink cappuccino with one of their pastries. If you are passing by and looking for a nice warm or even cold drink, I recommend to step in and check their menu.

Seating might be hard to come by, but in the cold winter the cafe is a godsend. Between their cozy atmosphere, coffee, pastry, and spiced wine, I cannot recommend this place more.

One of my favourite coffee shops downtown. Always can identify the cafe by the red trim and red door. Espresso is strong with a smooth taste. Iconic black cups with red top. Love the under counter espresso machines, gives it a clean look. Staff are always pleasant and friendly. Pastries are home made. My favourite is the "jam cookie", sweet jam in the center with a not too sweet surrounding cookie. Makes my day better every time I get it. Somewhere to check out for all coffee lovers near and far. I'm happy it still stayed open and made it during the pandemic.

Probably the fanciest, tastiest coffee place on Queen street. Hell, they even have local cheese and mulled wine, and they even have their own merch.

Great local spot with friendly staff. The coffee is rich and the ginger molasses cookie pairs well. The patio in the back is cute and a nice escape from busy queen st.

This has quickly become my go to destination for coffee meetings. Very friendly staff, quick service, affordable goodies, and wide range of coffee specialties—you can’t go wrong here. The patio out back is particularly quaint, almost Old Town Montreal vibes.

Coffee was good and enjoyed the Sourdough egg toast, but it was a bit crowded when I went and there's no wifi as well (if you're thinking of getting some work done).

Really great coffee and friendly staff. It's not the cheapest coffee you'll have but no different than some of the major coffee chains out there; plus you'll have a much nicer cup of coffee! Enjoyed a nice conversation with the barista while he carefully crafted my amazing latte.

Attempted to buy coffees and and snack for the first time at your Yonge and Davisville location......Living by the adage Buy local or say Good-bye to local. Placed my order, chose my baked goods and nice young lady proceeded to refuse my cash money. "we don't take money... at all" I was told it was a safety isssue......( flu transmits on paper money ) This statement was retracted by health authorities at least 12 months ago now.... Yet........ A nice big tip jar was set out on the counter... happily accepting tips in guess what..... cash Hmmmmm.... Please consider doing business in all your communities and accept all legal tender electronic, coin or paper currency. Let your customer decide how they would like to pay. Note: Yes I was able to find nice coffee just up the street at another local shop ....and used the same dollars I was going to give you.

This morning I ordered medium coffee. Just black. The coffee’s smell was so bad and couldn’t drink at all. Very disappointed experience

Over priced, over extracted and way too high ratio on the drip. Just tastes like a bitter mess, please learn how to properly extract coffee and maybe use better beans.

You can't miss this place with the bright red entrance. Good coffee but the hidden gem here is the cozy back patio! Note: there is however no WiFi here!
