Ferry Inn in Nottingham

A great place to visit, for quiz night.,a nice meal and in the summer evenings. The only down side was sitting staring at a bar full of unwashed glasses and empty food plates.

Great meal, served by Aaron who was really friendly, accommodating and polite. Food was tasty, not huge portions but for the price was good value for money 👍

Decided to pay a visit to this pub. With an option to sit outside in the garden area in the sunshine, what could be better than to sit in comfortable surroundings with a glass of something refreshing perusing the menu. With a choice of special dishes on then menu as well as the classics. Service today was provided by Helen and Aaron. Helen dealing with a large table and Aaron took everything in their stride with ease. The plade was really busy for a Wednesday lunchtime. So bookingbus always advisable. I ordered sirloin which was month watering tender and cooked to perfection. Aaron's approach to dealing with customers immediately puts everyone at ease. With his sense of humour, his knowledge and his efficiency is just effortless. Helen who is hospitality manager made us feel welcome and made us feel at hone. That being said the kitchen staff who tend not to get the acknowledgement they deserve did the place proud. So well done Brandon and the rest of the staff. I was tempted to try the pork belly which seems be popular. This place is ideally situated on the banks of the Trent. 10 minutes from the city on the tram. You can take a wonder visiting the church and the surrounding area of Wiford village. Drop in to the pub for a bite to eat with its choice of snacks and main meals. What could be better than to kick back, relax and take in some well deserved personal time. Whether that be G&T, bottle of fizz or just a pint. You won't be disappinted. Once again thank you Dom (the Manager) and your incredible staff.

Lovely place on the edge of the River Trent, good food, lovely atmosphere and great service - on this particular visit we had Aaron as our server who was was efficient and lovely, we look forward to coming again

Very pleasant evening. Went as part of a group of 15 and they happily accommodated us. Excellent food with reasonable prices. Menu seems to cater for pretty much everyone too. Highly recommended.

Very long wait for food and the meat for rest of party's meals was very poor. Items missing off plate. Requested a change of meat but seemed to come back the same way it left. Very disappointed.. the fish and chips was very nice though

The service isn't the best. it's very slow, and the food isn't the best quality it took 45 minutes for the food to come out.

Good customer service and nice food

If I could give zero stars, I would. The only reason I’m giving this place one star is because the atmosphere is quite charming. Let me start by saying that when we arrived, there was only one person behind the bar, and it took him about 15 minutes to serve us a bottle of wine and two glasses. The fridges were practically bare, and they didn’t even have the wine we had originally ordered. After enjoying a drink in the sunshine, we decided to go inside for food. The same flustered man from the bar greeted us. He asked if we wanted menus, and we said yes, please. But then he started lecturing us about how we shouldn’t have just sat down because it’s a booking service etc! Now, I’m not sure where this rule is stated in the pub, especially if you’re coming from outside and new to the area. And to make matters worse, they only had five tables with people seated, so it was hardly a busy evening. To top it all off, they informed us that they were out of chips, onion rings, and salad. They said that they had had a busy weekend because of the nice weather, but I can’t help but wonder how they cope when it’s 20 degrees in the summer if they can’t handle 15 degrees in April! When the food finally arrived, we were disappointed. The chicken was dry, tough, and flavourless, and the sweet potato was burnt to a crisp! This place is definitely one to avoid. I won’t be attending again, and I think we’ll stick to the other pubs in the area. I’ve never experienced such atrocious service and food before.

Nice good honest food, consider Gastro pub grub standard, I love the ambience and setting in an old bar with beams and low ceilings! Would recommend, some minor selection of Ales, but enough for a quick tipple and a tram back home!

A good choice of meals on the menu, tasty food, good helpful service and a decent choice of beers and other drinks, a worthwhile use of lunch out with friends

Took my mother who is retired guy richie gangster here - she exclaimed that this was a bloomy great lunch & will recommend it to all her gangster friends😉

Lovely atmospheric pub, have been a few times in the summer and sat outside only today had Sunday lunch , four of us , we thought plates maybe little sparce and we had spaces on the corners but assumed had been left for out extras( cauliflower cheese etc) , meal was nice but a little on the cool side if anything .. when we got home we realised we had had NO potatoes on any plate !!!! Wish we had realised at the time 🫥

Came here with my 7 year old who recommended we write a 5* review before we even leave. Food was amazing, service was polite helpful and prompt. Lovely lovely place. We live miles away but will be making the journey to visit as frequently as possible again. Excellent.

Unfortunately, couldn't sample the food because a table for 11 meant the kitchen was closed. Waited for an hour and half with no sign of them able to accommodate any other customers! Disappointed, went elsewhere. The beer was good though. Update: Dom at the Ferry Inn reached out and invited us back. I didn't make it but my friends got to take them up on the offer and had a great time. Thanks for making it right. I thought I should amend my score to represent their commitment to good customer service.

We were a group of 9 on quite a busy Sunday afternoon, but service was slow for both drinks and food. We had a real mixture of starters and nobody liked what they had. The crispy chicken strips were soft, luke warm, and very chewy. Most of us had the Sunday roast (which took an awful long timecto arrive at our table), which isn't cheap, and it was easily the worst meal I've ever eaten out! The majority of plates were partially full on return, but we weren't asked if there was anything wrong with the meals - which implies that this is normal 🤔.

Excellent pub and restaurant. The staff were very friendly, professional and super accommodating, for example, for my dear friend who has a food allergy and who also found her lamb tougher than expected. The pub itself is very nice and atmospheric. Definitely recommendable and the prices are decent too.

This is a fabulous pub. Open fire, great food, massive beer garden, enough parking, and it's close to the river for a pre- or post-meal wander. I've been several times with the family, and the food is always spot on, whether having their Sunday roast, a burger, or even a simple sandwich at lunchtime. One thing I really appreciate about the place is that the management really care about your experience. We went in a few weeks ago, and something happened in the kitchen which significantly delayed our food order. It was definitely out of the ordinary, and frustrating at the time. The staff kept us informed about the cause of the delays, and were generous with a discount to put things right. I look forward to my next visit!

Ale is frequently off here. It’s not an ale drinkers pub so my mistake for coming here again. Tried two pints of different bitter both with huge clouds of sediment and strong astringent tang. Raised the issue calmly. Server very polite but manager avoided eye contact and spoke over me as if I wasn’t there. Settled on an “ok” pint as tired of waiting “for it to settle”. This pub will always be just ok for mainstream family dining, terrible for beer.

I would not recommend the squid as there are only five pieces for £7 The gourmet burger was good quality meat and a very thick patty but despite this the onion rings that game with it were clearly frozen and very chewy. Yet the food was very delicious

We visited on Saturday - while in the area. We were glad we'd booked ahead - as the restaurant was quite busy, even for 3pm. The restaurant has some good decor (loved the Raleigh road bike fixed to the wall) With nice friendly staff, who were on hand to go through the menu - and what was available of the specials. Unfortunately the cheese sharer was off the menu - but we weren't too disappointed as the cottage pie croquettes were excellent! We both had something from the lighter menu. The scampi was really good, as was the Salmon fishcake. I'd recommend having a side of chips with this too. For desserts - we had the Bakewell and custard, and the sticky toffee pudding (again - with custard) This was a really good setting, and the staff were all very welcoming. Pleasant mid-week, not so pleasant on a Sunday! This wasn’t our first time to The Ferry, in fact we take our girls there quite often and are usually met with pleasant staff and customers, even if the service is incredibly slow - we show patience & understanding. However, today was different. After waiting at the bar with my 2 children, to be served in the same manner we do every time we go (plus 30 occasions), a lady decided to quite brazenly push in and ignore us. I asked the lady “did you not see us in the queue?” she said she didn’t (which was impossible). She then proceeded to make a comment to lady serving, that I had challenged her that we were next in line, they sneered and made eyes. The server then said (assuming myself and my children couldn't hear) “well if you snooze you lose”, belittling us to this woman. When being served, I then confirmed with the server that she had just said that about us to another customer. She immediately became over polite, yet no apology. I told both of the women, I wasn’t expecting much, just common decency & manners from adults. My children asked me, “why were those people mean to us mommy? Did we do something wrong?” I had to explain that we did absolutely nothing wrong, sometimes people are ignorant and you can’t change that but we won’t be visiting again. They agreed. Clearly more than happy to take our money when they are not busy in the week, but not good enough around the locals on the weekend.

Disappointing Experience – Refused a Simple Kids’ Meal Visited today at 11:15 with my 2-year-old son. The restaurant was far from busy—only about 15 people inside with plenty of empty tables. I asked to order a kids’ sausage and mash as my son was hungry, but the woman behind the bar immediately dismissed the request, saying, “You haven’t got a reservation… so we can’t serve food… because we need to protect the kitchen.” There was no effort to check with the kitchen, no flexibility, and no consideration that it was a small meal for a child. Given how quiet the restaurant was, this response was shocking. Definitely not the level of service I’d expect.

Lovely Sunday afternoon, we all had Sunday dinners and puddings which were delicious. Our server was Aaron who was so attentive to our needs throughout. Will be back at our favourite local!

We had a very nice meal, a cosy table and nice drinks. Our food was perfectly prepared and arrived after only a short wait. This isn't the first time we've been to the Ferry Inn, and I'm happy to say they've maintained a good standard each visit. Thank you!

My wife and i went for a Valentine day meal, what a let down. not a Valentine Heart to be seen,nothing but a overpriced valentine day menu,,awful atmosphere, never again !!!!!!

Following a not so great experience at Christmas, the owner, Dom, reached out to us to make amends. We were invited for Sunday dinner and the experience couldn't have been more different to our previous visit. Service was quick and efficient and our waitress was friendly and helpful. The food was nicely cooked, piping hot and plentiful. The ambience was, as always, beautiful. Despite a busy and bustling Sunday lunchtime the staff seemed on top of everything and very cheerful. I fully applaud Dom for owning their previous mistakes, solving the issues they had and doing right by their customers. I feel they have fully redeemed themselves and will be very happily returning.

First time at the Ferry boat for birthday lunch with family 4 adults and the last Food came lukewarm/ cold very overpriced for what was presented to us.Nice settings with pleasant staff such a pitty about the food .Would not recommend or return.

We have been here many times but to be honest the service is slow, and the food is ok. I'm sure it was better a few years ago. I don't what happened. We still go, in the hope it improves but waiting for staff to notice when you're waiting to order or to pay is painful.

We visited the ferry inn after a recommendation by some friends. We booked a table in advance only to find when we arrived most of the menu was not available even cod and chips was out of stock. As was beef lasagna pork belly. And from what I have been told this is regular.we felt we had no choice but to leave and travel somewhere else. Think Greeneking need to look at the bar prices. Sorry but I won’t be traveling to this venue again.

Came in on a Sunday lunchtime for a hot drink. There was only one person serving despite it being incredibly busy, as you would expect. We ordered half a lager, a coffee and a tea. After quite a while, the barman took our order to the kitchen. Twenty minutes after we ordered, he asked if we'd had our drinks then went off to make them. We eventually got our hot drinks but my tea was lukewarm and we had no spoons. For the cost of the drinks, it absolutely was not worth the wait.

The staff were excellent as was the food. Partner is gluten free and they have the best menu we have ever seen for him.

Awful atmosphere, table was unclean and had to clear it ourselves, airless, 20 mins warning that table we were at was reserved, but then told to leave in 5 minutes.

We have always had a family dinner here just before Christmas and it has always been a lovely atmosphere and great food. This year the location is as lovely as ever but the food was sadly very poor and the service even worse. The main course was barely edible, not as stated on the menu and was banged down on the table for us with no grace. Incorrect food brought, meals for our small group not even brought vaguely at the same time and the service was incredibly slow. Sadly the quality of the food was so bad this time that I don't think we will be returning.

We booked for a visit as we quite liked it previously. But this visit was a let down and would probably never visit again. Thank you very much.

Disappointing service and food. We waited over an hour for our food to be served. We ordered the festive Christmas Turkey meal and it looked as though half the meal was missing! There was hardly any turkey on the plate, no pig in blanket and a small amount of veggies. We all felt the meal was not worth the money.

Unfortunately we did not have a very good meal, we have not been in years and was looking forward to a great meal after reading some of the reviews, but sadly not! Our starter was Deep Fried Camembert, they were so deep fried there was no cheese, our pie was burnt and the carrots looked like they were from a previous day. And not cheep. Sadly disappointed.

Had a bacon and cheddar burger on Saturday. Overcooked, dry but covered in grease. Didn't finish it, and that's rare for me. Been coming almost 20 years before the football, but would've had enjoyed a burger by the ground more for a third of the price. Was like it'd been left on the grill for an hour. Foods gone down hill in the last year or so. Please sort it out because I want to keep coming.

Me and my husband went here for Sunday lunch, We've been before an it's been ok. I don't know what on earth has happened to this place but the food was awful, I'm not a picky eater and after wating for food being hungry, It takes a lot for me to say "I just cant eat that, I just can't I'm sorry." ---------------------------------------------------------------------- I had the festive beef burger and it was really disgusting, the meat was fatty and hard , the chips and the onion rings were pale, tasteless and undercooked, no presentation on the plate just a plate crammed full of undercooked chips and the meat was revolting! There was nothing about the food on that plate that resembled anything festive at all! It made MacDonalds look like a Michelin Star Restaurant. The chef (I think it was) came out to us and he did apologise and said the dinner was on the house free which was really nice of them they were kind enough to substitute it as I had barely touched it. The substitute dish I chose was the festive vegetarian wellington just in case they were having an "off" day" with cheap fatty bad meat (I'm not vegetarian) but even the second dish I couldn't eat , again, undercooked , roast potatoes were pale no color not cooked properly, lumpy dry gravy, the greens looked ok but had absolutely no taste , they were dry and the whole dish was just so FLAT but it was better than the first one, after just a few mouthfuls of the second dinner we just had to leave. What made all of this so much worse was that just before leaving I went to the toilet, put handwash on my hands, lathered up only to find that there was barely a drop of water coming out of any of the three taps.! It took AGES to wash off the soap suds as best I could and then i had residue, there was just no way of getting it off! All taps across three basins were the same. I tried them all as know one was in there. I eventually came out of the toilets and my poor husband and been waiting a long time. I had a look at the other reviews on here and it seems that there is a problem here Ferry Inn with Sunday and the dinner and I also wont be visiting again any time soon!

We went as a party of 13 for my 60th birthday and a great time was had by all. The food, service and atmosphere were great. I've been using the Ferry for over 40 years and still consider it my "Local" even though I no longer live here and can only get back a couple of times a year.

Arrived at about 9pm on a Saturday night. The place was almost empty. Ordered a couple of drinks including one of their standard but overpriced cocktails. Charged full price and then told there was no mint or lime (as per the cocktail description) because it had been put back in the kitchen. Appalling service 🙄
