We visited for an early dinner on a Wednesday evening. The staff were friendly and efficient and the bar and restaurant areas very pleasant. However the food served was extremely disappointing. When we ordered pies, we expected something tasty and possibly home made . What we were served was a pie you would be served at a football match, a dollop of mashed potato and some frozen peas. The saving grace was the gravy but I would be ashamed to dish up a meal like that. It was edible so we didn’t complain but most certainly wouldn’t recommend eating here.

Omg..walked into this pub to find Ian the previous landlord was no longer there. What did i walk into? Stench of a substance which is known as grass. Filthy looks from the local builders and top it all off the lady behind the bar did not even acknowledge us we asked if the kitchen was open and told to go over the other side. 15 minutes later nobody came to us and my husband went over to ask for food and drinks. Ignored completely But then the Landlord appeared turned music up and all the handful or customers watching football started arguing with him. STAY Away!!!! We left and went to the other pub in the village

OK TV bar, friendly staff, food not great. I had prawn salad, a decent portion of prawns, but salad from a bag that still had all the brown ends on. Mayo was so empty none could be got out, I got up and asked for another, which was also pretty much empty, I got up again and finally got a new bottle.

We all had been told this was the place to go in Potter Heigham. It was a huge disappointment. The restaurant is divided into two, a narrow gangway leads from the bar to the toilets, non stop traffic to and fro. Secondly it seems a home for every type of dog possible. The manager/owner is followed everywhere by his noisy Alsatian plus a miniature that runs around willy nilly. More Battersea Dogs Home than a decent pub. Why are dogs allowed where people sit and eat? It was an unpleasant evening and as we tour East Anglia in our quest for the perfect dining experience sadly this one is down at the bottom.

We had a great meal here, while on a short boating holiday on The Broads. My younger son and I had the Fried Chicken burger, with chips and onion rings; my older son had Scampi and Chips, and my husband had ribs. The food was excellent, particularly the chips. The female staff that dealt with us were really friendly and I felt very welcomed. It was a Saturday evening, and quite lively in the bar area, but I did enjoy the 80's pop they were playing. My only reason for not giving 5 stars is that the three adults in our group are fans of craft beers and lagers and the selection on offer is a bit boring. Perhaps it is a brewery pub and cannot change the offerings? However, the food and service were great so I would defintely recommend.

Fantastic food, excellent service, dog friendly! Really great selection on the menu, we had starters and mains, two things that were on special, and it was all fantastic. Portion sizes left us stuffed and prices very reasonable. Would absolutely recommend. Walked from Womack Staithe which was a good 35 mins with a child but worth it and needed the walk back to burn it off.

My wife and I decided to order from the saver menu as it was 2 for 1. While reading the saver menu in front of the waitress we asked what the pie was and the waitress pointed to a blackboard where it was written a choice ,( pies on blackboard were about £15) When the pies came they were nice however when we paid we had been charged the price for the more expensive choice from the board and not 2 for 1 despite clearly wanting the 2for 1 pies off the paper menu . When we questioned the bill her reply was. “You choose off the board, and if you had the other pies they would of been smaller”( the pies we had could of easily fitted in my palm so can’t imagine what smaller ones would of been like?) To make an extra £15 they lost our custom for good , shame as we live quite close

After a lovely walk we had planned to stop here for lunch but we received a nasty attitude from one the bartenders it was unbelievable. We didn’t do anything wrong apart from wanting to order our drinks but she felt grieved because she had to stop chit chatting with some blokes having a drink. She gave us an unpleasant attitude and didn’t even make an attempt to say a word to us. After our drinks we left and vowed not to go back. But her attitude might have been a blessing in disguise because when I went to the restrooms the door was smeared in what appeared to be human extremant.

I visited with my partner, and his dogs, a couple of times, We decided to try Sunday lunch, there was a good selection but no roast dinners ,which were stopped for the summer season. We chose a home made chicken and mushroom pie with veg selection, the pie was excellent with large chunks of chicken and nice pastry. There is a limited selection of ales, but plenty of other choices, including cocktails. There is a vegetarian menu and specials board, again some nice options for mains. starters and desserts, prices are fair considering the area. The Folgate has three rooms and outside seating. There is a play area for children, So child and dog friendly . Heating is provided for colder evenings. There was live music on Saturday night The interior is comfortable with numerous TVs to watch sport ,etc. The pub is in a very quiet village, no streetlights nearby so you will need a torch if you visit in the evening. .

We had a wonderful meal here, accompanied by our two dogs who were warmly greeted by the wait staff. For starters we had whitebait and prawns and they were both tasty and freshly cooked. For mains, my husband had a Tomahawk pork chop which he was delighted with and said he was cooked to perfection. I had the steak and chorizo tacos which were also great. If you are looking for a gastro pub that sells overpriced food, hundreds of wines, and two beers, then look elsewhere. Dog friendly pub, garden a sun trap with a decent play area if you have you young children. I had the Brie and red onion chutney ciabatta with side salad. It was flourless and the chutney was the best I had. Husband had a burger which he said was lush and daughter had the southern fried chicken burger and chips. This rates as the best and most interesting menu for a pub I think I’ve come across. Very Spanish-orientated menu with lots of variety. I personally had anchovies on ciabatta bread which were to die for - especially as anchovies are among my favourites. Then had a starter portion of mussels in a creamy rich sauce. All washed down with local perfectly served ale. Lovely attentive friendly staff. Nearly forgot - had a yummy doorstep cheese and onion sandwich lunchtime two days before.

The one nearest the car park is small, with big TV and music playing, 2nd room is used more as a restaurant area. We had a bar meal on the first evening and sat in the courtyard area. Food was lovely and staff all very friendly.Had Sunday dinner there also and the food was amazing. Took about 35 mins from ordering the Sunday roast to getting it which surprised me, but it was beautiful when it came - piping hot and very very tasty. The only thing I really did not like was we were sat at a table next to a very large TV that had a football match playing - not really what I wanted when eating my dinner.Could see that the 3rd bar room also had a TV on the wall as well as a large TV in the courtyard garden. Lovely pub but TVs should not be on in every room - not everyone wants to watch TV when eating/drinking.

Walked in we were directed through a door to a small bar and courtyard. Only 2 people in the bar. The TVs were on full volume which was a bit off putting. We ordered drinks and food, from a reduced menu as the chef was on holiday. The waitress was very friendly and our food came freshly cooked, not microwaved. I had the fish and chips and it was the best I have had in a long time, really thin crisp batter. We had a couple of drinks and headed back. This pub is being “done up” I think it is a bit in between at the moment, but once completed will be a great place to come. We were cruising the broads sampling many pubs and their food and we decided to spend a night at Potter Heigham. We discovered that the only place serving food after 7pm was the Falgate.we phoned to book a table for 1930 but we were informed that we could have 1845 because they were booked for 1930. This was not a problem for us. We departed our boat at 1830 armed with 4 torches. We arrived at the pub and following covid 19 protocol we were introduced to our host, a very pleasant young man who took our drinks order and when we were ready, our food order. On first impression the dining area seemed a little tatty and outdated , but when the food arrived all of those misconceptions disappeared . 4 absolutely delicious meals , the steaks perfectly rare , the gammon seared just right, the lasagna was obviously home made and the chips were divine. 4 people, 6 glasses of wine , 6 pints and 4 delicious meals for less than £100 . If you are visiting the area and you don't visit this place then you are missing possibly the best food on the broads north of Yarmouth. To avoid disappointment you must phone and book, I can assume that the kitchen must be very small, but this makes the food great and adds more of a personal touch.

We arrived in the Broads late on Friday. This pub is the only walkable one from Potter Heigham Bridge and as it advertised pub food, we thought we would just go and see if we could get a meal, although we hadn't booked. We arrived at around 7.15pmWell the Covid 19 arrangements were practically non-existent. There was an empty bottle of sanitizer in the porch and one way system indicated on the floor along an unpleasant looking strip of carpet. There were people seated at a couple of tables and nobody appeared from behind the bar for ages. Eventually a very unsmiling woman came out and we asked if they were doing food. After some thought, she said they had a party of 2 coming in at 7.30 and a party of 6 coming in at 7.45, so no sorry! Nobody else was eating just local drinkers1!Clearly not remotely interested in serving any customers. We decided to stay for a drink and sat down at a corner table which I wiped with my own wipes, just in case!! Drinks were served in a surly manner. When the party of 6 came in,( a bunch of local guys) they all crowded round the bar talking to the landlady and leaning on the bar etc. She only seemed to be interested in talking to her mates either at the bar or going round the tables chatting. We finished our drinks and went to leave, but the exit door was bolted, so clearly no-one had been using it! There was a young lad behind the bar who seemed pleasant. Felt sorry for him really. Can't comment on the food, but have no intention of returning to this unwelcoming place

From the nanky green carpet to the surly woman who eventually acknowledged our presence this was quite possibly the worst place we have ever been.

We visited for Sunday lunch today , on first impressions the pub looks a bit tired & not too welcoming, as we had 2dogs we had to sit in garden which we knew as don’t allow dogs inside. They only do Traditional Sunday lunch which was what we wanted with decent choice of meats . Meals came out nice & hot with 3 choices of potatoes, peas carrots, cabbage , cauliflower & broccoli & homemade Yorkshire puddings a good plateful cooked just right all for £8.50 . We also ordered puddings nice decent size with plenty custard. Good old fashioned Landlord & lady . Great value for money.

We'd had a busy day sailing the Norfolk Broads and Potter Height was one of our stops - we looked forward to visiting one of the two pubs or maybe both for drinks and food. Sadly the Norada 2018 was closed, no doubt due to Covid-19, so we had a stroll half a mile up the road to the Falgate. We had to enter round the back, which was a ramshackle affair of tatty tables and chairs and the building itself in need of maintenance. On entering, the few folk in the pub looked at us and said 'ring the bell' - I could see a chap at the far end of the bar and said 'Hello' but he possibly didn't hear me. I rang the little bell (to great hilarity of the local) and he came to help us.We asked if we could book a table for 5 and would we be OK with our well behaved 6 month old Labrador. He said 'Dogs aren't allowed' so we asked if it was possible to have a table outside. He said 'OK, but we can only do 7pm or 8.15pm' 7pm would have been too early to get back to our boat, get everyone ready and walk back there, so we opted for 8pm. I asked if we could come at 7.30 as we were eating outside and he said 'We have a table booked already for 7.30'I said 'Does it make a difference that we are going to be outside?' thinking that we wouldn't be taking up a table inside. He seemed exasperated and explained that the kitchen can only cope with one order at a time. Fair enough, I said, I just wondered if it was a table problem or a kitchen problem. I said we would go for 8.15pm.He said 'It will be dark' and then 'Perhaps I can rig up a bulb in a tree' which I thought was helpful, but perhaps he was having fun with me.I had a look at the menu, there is a large selection of pub favourites - see photos. On leaving, we took another look at where we were expected to eat outside and our hearts sank.We walked around the front of the pub and there is no pavement so you have to walk in the road for a couple of hundred yards and a car came speeding past us. We decided then that it wouldn't be safe to walk there in the dark - it was barely safe in the light. On discussion, we felt the overall ambience of the place was foreboding, it was like the pub that time forgot. The chap we spoke to didn't seem to want our business and I think this is a place for locals to drink and be entertained by holidaymakers that have ventured up there. We got back to the boat and cancelled and had a takeaway curry instead, which was delicious. I cannot comment on their food, but they should seriously look at asking the council for a pavement and think about catering for tourists and people with dogs.

Visited this charmless hell hole with the promise on the outside menu board promising “a range of meals” Ventured inside to a mostly empty 1970s style grotto. The ambience was colder than an iceberg as was the service. We enquired to the lady serving if there are any menus. She curtly replied we only do roasts on a Sunday and “I’m not doing anymore today” Charm in abundance right there yet when we turned to leave she actually turned around and stated we can just leave the way we came. So thus basically we were thrown out of a pub. And to be fair after reading reviews. Sounds like she done us a favour All in all the pub is run down the staff are about as friendly as red hot poker and we won’t be visiting this particular dive once again

We made a telephone reservation for 7.15 as we wanted to eat out side. On arrival we were informed they had no Stella, no Carling and no Amstel. The only draught Lager was Corrs Light. The beer was undrinkable tasted like Cider so I am guessing the pipes needed cleaning. We waited for someone to come to us with the menu so after half an hour we decided to go to the bar to get the menus ourselves. We were told that they did not know where the menus were. Eventually we studied the menu and were ready to order. Nice and easy 4 starters and 3 Rump Steaks and a Gammon. One of the starters was supposed to be Pate but it was Ham Hock . After completing our starters we waited a further 20 minutes for our plates to be cleared.A further 20 minutes we were informed that that did not have any Gammon and they only had 2 steaks. So eventually we re ordered and around 9 pm our food turned up . Everything was greasy , the presentation was appalling and the steak was like boot leather. As it was now so late the garden was full of midges hence we wanted to eat earlier. We decided enough was enough so we asked for our bill. Working off scraps of paper not a till in site it took 20 minutes to work out our bill which was four starters 4 mains and 4 rounds of drink and £ 142.00 later we decided to go.We complained to a member of staff who physically put his head in his hands who apologised on behalf of the owners. The place was a mess filthy dirty ,disgusting toilets and no signs of segregation. After further investigation the pub has been issued with a food hygiene rating of 1 by the local council which explains it all.

First impressions when we arrived wasn’t brilliant, lack of atmosphere and not the most welcoming. Came for a meal here after a busy day out on holiday. We booked a table to eat for 7:15 as they said they couldn’t fit us in to eat any earlier. I was expecting it to be really busy (within reason due to covid regulations) but only 1 table eating in the restaurant and another 2 tables drinking in the bar area when we arrived for a drink half an hour earlier than our booking. We didn’t get sat in the restaurant until 8pm and then got our food quite some time later. Despite first impressions and the the long wait the food was delicious and very reasonably priced. When we return to the area I’m sure we will visit again and give it another go. I would like to make a polite suggestion.... the piece of fabric/ curtain thing on the door from the bar into the other little bar area is where the “exit” door is needs to go. Numerous people walking through that when Covid is about seems rather unsafe to me.

Whilst I'm holiday we visited a couple of times, and were made so welcome. The log fire, good food and friendly welcome were a great antidote to the stormy weather outside.

Stopped off here today whilst on route from Gt Yarmouth to Norwich and tried the Sunday Lunch, its probably the best Sunday Lunch I have had for years, there was lots of meat and loads of vegetables, all of which was served piping hot and at a very reasonable price. We will definitely be visiting again for the Sunday Lunch.

After seeing previous reviews when we moored at potter heigham decided to go to this pub and we're not disappointed. You well in to a warm bar with fire and there is a separate restaurant. We were shown to put table had drink orders taken and given menus and advised of specials board. Great choice of good on main menu and lots of specials too. Was a job choosing but we got our good ordered. All food we had was delicious and loads of it. Couldn't make room for dessert...next time! Prices very good too and good service and nice ambience. Highly recommend if You like traditional food well cooked.

Just arrived in Potter Heigham for the weekend , looking quickly at the reviews for the local pubs we decided to try The Tailgate Inn. We arrived around 6.15 to be told they were fully booked even though there appeared to be nobody in the restaurant. It is obviously very popular to be fully booked on a Thursday evening at the end of September ! No suggestion was made that we may be able to eat in the bar area where there were also tables available or any alternative eating places suggested. Not a warm welcome out of season. My advice, phone first or if you want an evening where you feel your custom would be welcome, go elsewhere. Maybe we were just unlucky??

My wife and I with our Labrador dog visited the Falgate Inn on a Wednesday lunch time after pulling into Potter Heigham having moored our boat by the bridge for an afternoon drink. The staff were very friendly and we sat in the beer garden. Whilst relaxing in the sunshine we looked at the evening menu which was very reasonably so we decided to come for our evening meal. I had rump steak and my wife choice broccoli and cheese back both were genuinely home cooked and delicious. It is well worth the walk up for excellent service and food. Well done Falgate Inn. Only tip for those staying on a boat take a touch

It’s our first visit to the pub. When we entered the falgate a lady who we think it was the landlady was sat on a stool either was on her laptop or tablet it wasn’t a good image or welcoming and some locals at the bar. I asked her if they were serving food she said they couldn’t take food orderers until 6pm this was a Monday evening at 5.50pm the we went to sit down in the restaurant and we was the only ones there I ordered some drinks and asked for the menus her reply was I get them for you when I went back to the table and she gave the menus at the bar and then asked us will no politeness to move to a table of two people as we sat on a table of 4 people as they was only 2 of us no one else in the restaurant I thought her manners and customer service was very bad as she spoke to us to move tables as it takes to much more cleaning then I felt like walking out at this point and then she said it was her night and hopefully the waitress will turn up at 6pm to take our food order the lad who took our food order at 6pm was very polite and had excellent customer service we had moved back to the table for 4 people. The food was good and it was a good price. The lady she was very rude to us.

what a lovely Fish and Chip shop, front of house was a lovely friendly lady, Young lady at the till was obviously new and learning the tills, but what a lovely happy go lucky young lady she was. Explaining, she is new to the tills so please bare with her. Ordered our food, Traditional Cod and Chips, all nice and fresh and tasty, and nice size portions. Looking forward to going back to Well's later in the year for some more Fish and chips from here

Have popped in occasionally and had the most delicious pie and gravy. Was in the area Saturday and thought a lovely pie and gravy will go down a treat on such a cold day. Saturday luch time, no pies on the menu, just a very basic baguette, omlette, baked potato menu, really disappointed. Should have guessed, very sparse of dinners. Ordered the egg baguette, to be told a minute later 'we can't get hold of any eggs'. So all the omlettes were unavailable too. I've just been to a farmers market down the road that's full of eggs and pies! Cheese baguette ok, very cheap colesaw on side( sorry being really picky now). It has changed hands and don't believe the menu online, we won't be going back.

Wow what a find. the best place to eat for miles around if you have dogs with you as it is very dog friendly. We went for Sunday lunch and sat out on the covered terrace next to the lovely garden. There was a choice of 4 roast meats and a vegetarian option. The food was delicious and there was plenty of it. The cost was also very reasonable. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The whole place has a lovely atmosphere.

Great staff, amazing views, nice range of beers. They continue to do a great job on the pier, we are so lucky to have it. It's a treasure that has been beautifully maintained.
