Fagins Diner in Hastings

Stumbled into Fagins on a Thursday night - unsure of what to expect we weren’t disappointed. The atmosphere was cosy and welcoming and the food eclectic and tasty. Would recommend

Any competent cook should be able to produce a well-done steak, especially after having it sent back for being extremely rare.

Food was absolute trash. Minimum words on here is one hundred, but I don't have all of the words to describe how crap the food was so I'm blabbing . Crap.

This place is excellent, great food and very helpful staff. The food is excellent and it is dog friendly which for us is a bonus. Will definitely go back!

A very busy service but the staff coped remarkably well. The food was beautifully served , both hot and delicious. All in all a wonderful, atmospheric restaurant. Certainly recommended.

Fagins (at corner of High St and George St) has a bistro atmosphere. We enjoyed seafood tagliatelli, goats cheese salad on delicious bread, and a plate of garlic bread. All were delicious. The salad and its dressing was delightful as was the goats cheese. The seafood sauce was great and the dish came with king prawns, calamari, salmon and other fish. Will visit again if we come to Hastings. The service was efficient.

We had a great meal experience today. The shish kebabs are generously portioned with whole pieces of chicken and lamb, the Caesar salad was most enjoyable with more than ample tasty ingredients. Both burgers were large worth the price with a really nice portion of fries and coleslaw. The children's pizza was very nice and again well portioned, had to use a doggy bag for that one. The staff were very smartly dressed and were very friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend

We stopped here for a quick dinner. Staff were very helpful and food was lovely. Lamb shish was sooo good. Would recommend if you can get an outside seat!

Although the cafe is very sweet and lovely the food was trrrible. The ‘hot’ waffles should not be in the menu as they were cold, stodgy and hard. We could barely eat the meal. It was also very slow service and the wait staff were more preoccupied with looking out of the window than serving, cleaning or taking orders. Very disappointing.

A delightful place to sit, eat and watch the people go by in this old part of Hastings. We opted for the 'Specials' of the day and were so impressed with the quality of the food, presentation, value and the staff were equally as impressive. We will definitely go back.

We set outside and watched people rehearsing for Jack In The Green the next day. The staff was super nice, service was quick and the burger was absolutely delicious. Great spot in Hastings.

Lovely sunny day to sit outside at Fagins. Random pick, but what a find. Excellent service, excellent full breakfast and range of other stuff. Coffee too was very good. Great spot and great place. Thank you and keep it up, Hastings needs you.

Pleasant and welcoming staff, great coffee and varied breakfasts. Spacious too with plenty of space. The breakfasts were freshly cooked and hot- 1 mark off as bacon a bit too well done perhaps. Very nice crispy kale. Would eat here again :)

Dined here for lunch on NYE. Service was slow and food lacked any flavour whatsoever. Pizzas (despite toppings) tasted of raw dough and the seafood tagliatelle was a stodgy mess. Pasta was over cooked and the sauce tasted of nothing. Seafood was also over cooked and became stodgy. Price did not reflect the quality of food at all. There was no check back at all throughout the meal to give feedback, and despite half the plates being full, no-one asked how the meal was. Disappointed and would not recommend.

Called in for dinner, the day after Boxing day, and glad we did. Myself and my wife had a sharing starter, followed by a main each, with a lovely bottle of white rioja. The food was fresh and very nice, the service was friendly, and very efficient. Very good value, and a perfect dining experience, please don't change, will be back very soon. Thank you.

Never ever again so disappointed my friends has traveled up from Wales for dinner with us I had booked a specific table 10 days before and when we arrived was told that they'd had a booking for 11 so we'd have to sit on a table that was barely big enough for 4 small children to eat at,but then the table behind us left so waitress said so you want this one,wow thanks!!! so we moved because it did at least have room for four people however everytime the door opened my friend was pushed as people came in very very disappointed as booked early and was promised table then shelved because they had a better offer,very disappointed will never ever visit again food very mediocre and service not much better

We didnt have a booking but staff were very welcoming, especially as were concerned about going inside with a pram. Once in and settled, these worries were lifted. Chilled atmosphere, good service. We only had mains but they were lovely. Will be back again. Love the new decor as i last came here some years ago, its had a lovely refreshing uplift since.

Please remove the gollywog sign. Happy to amend review after. Breakfast was nice but was embarrassing taking friends there.

2nd visit for dinner with hubby, he had a burger and I had the lamb kebab. Both dishes were delicious, generous portions, the kebab really was outstanding, authentic flavours and lovely accompaniments. Looking forward to our next visit. This spot is great for casual dining in a relaxed atmosphere with friendly staff. Try it, you won't be disappointed.

Ambience & location nice, staff pleasant, but pizzas were poor. Bland sauce, poorly stretched base, not cooked in pizza oven imo. Another table sent all theirs back, but we were hungry. Other dishes were fine.

Two lovely pizzas in a lovely restaurant in the old town of Hastings. Pleasant service, a clean restaurant and most importantly its dog friendly.

Husband and I are new to Hastings, we popped in here one weekday evening for a quick meal, had olives and calamari to start and then both had burgers, food was hot, tasty, good size portions and well presented, good value for money, service was good, all in all a good experience, would go again.

I visited Fagins early evening yesterday and had a platter - which you’re supposed to share - but I never do 😀…it was THE BEST one I’ve ever had!! Artichokes, falafels etc etc.. SO delicious!!

Managed to nab a table as a walk-in last Saturday. It wasn’t our first stop but a couple of other restaurants in the Old Town weren’t serving food (it was 7pm on a Saturday!) or had weird menus. Thank God Fagins did have rooms - would absolutely recommend the pizza, it was delicious. Also ordered a veggie platter board which was okay. The pizza definitely made up for it. But was really impressed with politeness and friendliness of staff seeing as we were 1 of many walk ins. They seemed to get busier and busier but we’re equally welcoming and attentive to each table. I think the owner took our order and was very friendly and accommodating (we wanted a few tweaks to the pizza) but all in all a really pleasant experience and would absolutely be my first stop next time!!

Really bad food . we ordered the breakfast that was supposed to come with sourdough and kayle it arrived with white bread and spinach it was cold and they forgot the egg. i gave it back to the waitress and when it came back it was the same food just stuck under a grill, it was so hot the bacon was frying on the plate. it's a shame that a business has got to that point where they don't care including the cook. The waitress was excellent. Hastings!! you let me down

I just wanted to say that my friend and I ate the best mussles ever . That was yesterday. If you like mussles Fagins is the place to sample them.

The brunch didn't really live up to the description, I had to return the plate to have he bacon crisped. It wasn't awful it was okay....just okay. Which I suppose for the price is acceptable. I think a little more effort and it could be exceptional. It might just be fatigue and disillusionment after the lockdown. Service is pretty variable. I've been a few times and it can't be depended on for consistency which is unfortunate.

Not sure what Fagins are about anymore. No hot starter option (odd) so we had an sharer platter of olives, humus, crudites, bread, oil and balsamic. Basic and nothing to shout about really. We then had a very average steak (not cooked on high enough heat unfortunately so rib eye was very chewy). Very average cash and carry tiramisu with awful cheap tasting vanilla ice cream (canned squirty cream the other option). Staff meeting friends and messing about with phone ringtones drowned out the piped music. Positives were a nice bottle of wine, nice fries and garlic butter with the steak. A strange ambience where you do feel your imposing on staff social lives. Won't bother again as the food is just...average.

Friendly , welcoming, great prices a must revisit. Staff did their upmost to make us welcome and made sure we had everything we wanted.

Had a walk through the old town and the inviting window of Fagin’s was showing me the way. We had a Rump steak and Caesars Salad we waited about 30 mins including starters of olive oil and bread but well worth it, the food looked and tasted like it was cook at the time only for you with the chef’s full attention fresh and not pre cooked in any way. Nice atmosphere with great old soul tunes. Full house too. Well done to all the friendly staff

Walked in yesterday to see if they had any tables available, I told them that I had a baby/pram with us and was told “no problem but can you just stand outside for a minute”. It was cold and it was drizzling and there was 4 of us with a baby 10yo. A whole 15 minutes later we was still waiting outside whilst looking at the same member of staff through the window putting glasses away which she was doing when we got there. I too have being there in the past but it seems it is not what it used to be... ENDED UP WALKING AWAY.

We decided to sit down and rest our feet over a bottle of rose and decide where we would go onto to eat.However once we saw the quality of the meals being served we decided to stay put and we were not disappointed.we started with a shared mixed starter of olives, bread, humus etc, which was very nice.I was then lucky enough to be there when the mussel and chips were on the menu.They were the best mussels I've ever had, but be warned you get a kilo, so best to make this a sharing meal.My wife had lovely chicken kebab.All served by friendly and professional staff

Despite the lack of servers the front and back of house team tried to help customers and deliver fabulous food. We popped in on the off chance there would be a table and to our delight we were seated.The wait was a little longer than usual but we were rewarded by tasty food. The steak was cooked as requested and well seasoned. The fish pie was packed with chunks of fish and a beautifully prepared top.Can't wait to return to Hastings and visit this amazing eatery.

I wish I can say how wonderful my experience was but unfortunately I can’t... I visited on a Wednesday morning / afternoon (11.40) by myself and felt uncomfortable by server...ordered coffee and wanted to wait a bit till I order lunch ( 30 mins) ... as soon as my coffee arrived was asked to pay ( do not mind but other tables did not have this pushed on them).. felt soo uncomfortable that I left without finishing my drink...just because I’m solo please be thoughtful as we already feel uncomfortable...

What a delightful place to stop by on a sunny afternoon. Veggie brunch was a revelation . Lovely caring waitress. Nice house wine. If I lived locally this restaurant would be my destination of choice on a Sunday

Food was good but took far too long. Staff very unprofessional, I asked for a description of one of the dishes & she really didn’t sell it at all, she appeared disinterested & disengaged. When an adjacent table left the two waitresses audibly moaned about the tip that was left, they were acting as though there were no customers left. It was an uninspiring dinner out tbh. Also ... your tables are for too low for the chairs; we were all hunching over, doesn’t make for a comfortable meal.

Four of us visited for brunch and apart from being made to feel welcome we loved the food. The coffee was good too. Great service. Great place. Will be visiting again

Arrived at 6:50pm, staff polite and showed us to our table. Ordered drinks and starter, quickly served and then ordered mains. Sadly we had to wait for nearly an hour for our food, the two waitresses were rushed off their feet trying to seat, take orders and serve food and drinks. management obviously needs more staff at front of house to cope with the custom. The waitresses are polite, friendly and helpful but it’s a shame the management are not front of house to see how hard the waitresses are working. The food was amazing, we had the deluxe burger and the spiced lamb Shish skewer. We would happily come back to Fagins if the management sorted out the service, this is not a complaint about the two waitresses but the management who do not seem to see the issues at front of house.

Last night we visited Fagins restaurant in our home town for a friends birthday, after hearing good things about it we were excited. Sadly the service really let it down. The food was lovely, came out quick and was presented really nicely and we all finished our food as it was delicious. But when the waitress arrived to take our order with her arms folded it had already set the tone. After we had finished we sat for nearly an hour chatting, no one cleared the table or came to ask if our food was ok or if we would like more drinks. I had to go and ask for the bill and even then our table was only half cleared before the card machine was bought over. No one said good bye as we left. Such a shame as The chefs are obviously great but the front of house staff could learn a thing or two!

Came here for some “brunch” , on arrival the waitress told us we could sit wherever, another lady who works here came over and very rudely said “have you actually been seated” we said yes. Ordered food it took over 40 minutes to arrive, we wasn’t once asked how our meal was. Poor service.

Awesome breakfastWe were able to secure an outside table and had the most gorgeous breakfast, everything beautifully cooked, reasonable portions and beautifully presented. The customer service is great but my fisherman's pie with mix of fish and seafood came only with one ingredient, when it was supposed to have 4. I really don't like when restaurants do these things.

Delicious steak with a slightly smoky taste, was medium done and tender. The garlic butter had a real kick and really pulled it all together. The fries were perfect and the salad drizzled with nice dressing. Service was good, vibrant atmosphere. Would go there again.

My husband and I stayed in Hasting the night of the storm at the end of February. Everywhere was very quite, due the storm and we were the only customers there. We ordered and the waitress was very polite, when the food came my husband couldn’t believe just how poor quality his dish was, he had ordered a pizza but it was more like a giant dried out cracker! The base was so thin that it made a crunch every time he bit into it, i must add at this point that mine was ok. We returned the ‘pizza cracker’ and it was replaced with what I can only describe a an appallingly made kebab (it was meant to be hallumi and veg skewers but there was no skewers just layers of coleslaw on a stale flatbread with rubberised hallumi on the top) I ordered a dessert, why we didn’t just cut our losses at this point I don’t know! I ordered banoffee pie, this came with what I think was ‘dream topping’ on top, my husband ordered lemon ice cream, this was tasteless, tiny and rather costly! Why we didn’t just cut our losses after the main meal disaster I don’t know!!When we were eating the kitchen staff came into the main restaurant and all stood around the bar talking and joking with each other, this also made us feel uncomfortable. All in all it was a pretty rubbish meal, definitely no love went into their cooking!!!With the storm blowing outside we left feeling out of pocket and hungry!! Come on guys, did it really make you feel proud to charge for food that not only looked unappetising but taste pretty appalling too!!

Been going here for years. Never been the same since the refurb. Arrived at seven and ordered drinks. Ten minutes later ordered our starters and meal. My wife ordered smoked seafood salad, sounded lovely. Waitress immediately apologised and said they had run out of smoked salmon, but could put extra smoked mackerel on instead. Ok said my wife. Had our starters, very nice. 7-45 and the waitress came back to tell us that my main course was almost ready, but they didn’t have any smoked mackerel either! Couldn’t do the dish required. Offered to chose something else, but having been told my dish was almost ready and a new choice from my wife would have to be started from scratch, decided to get the bill and leave. Charged for the drinks and starters, but nothing deducted for ruining our evening.

Oh yummy. I've been coming here on and off since the 80s. Great food and lovely staff. This time we both had fish pie. Such a lovely parsley sauce. Fresh beans on the side.We had white bait last time.Honestly give it a go.Delicious

Very varied menu, lots of specials. Very relaxed surroundings. The food was fabulous especially the belgian waffle dessert. Reasonably priced and serving food all day. We went for an early dinner just around 5pm.

Fagins Diner is located in one of the main streets in Old Town Hastings. We ordered pizzas (which were absolutely delicious) and the service was really fast and friendly. I'd recommend it!

We booked for St V, having had our second date back in the Dark Ages (more accurately, 1984 when Himself thought It'd be an interesting new place to take the new girlfriend), and it's still affordable and intimate. French onion soup & moules frites for me, whitebait & 10oz rib-eye for him, proving the old adage of eyes being bigger than bellies, so I had to help out.The service was rapid and friendly, even though the staff were clearly busy. They've had a refurb and the loo is now a little warmer than its previous chiller temperature. My only grumble is that the soap dispenser is too high for my 5'6" self without the drips running up my arms (sited at bathroom-builder height rather than woman-user height), but the hand dryer is low enough then to dry the drips again. At about £30p/h it's pretty reasonable for St V, given that their set menu was £60p/h (bookable only).On a wholly personal note, I was heartened to see a couple of same-sex couples clearly enjoying St V.

A very average Sunday pub lunch. Food was nice but overpriced for the quality and the service was pretty slow.

Booked a table for 6.30pm and it was busy when we arrived. Our drinks were ordered and arrived soon after and our order was taken. Again our starters arrived in good time and were nice. Mains arrived around 15 mins after and looked good. I had the lamb shish. I asked for onion rings instead of coleslaw of which they duly obliged. Overall the dish was ok Onion rings were lovely and crisp and the salad and yogurt chilli had a bit of bite. The disappointing aspect and what should be the star of the show was the lamb. Very tough and chewy. I had to sneakily spit out a large piece of gristle into a serviette. We had a bottle of Sauvignon which at £19 a bottle is a bit steep. I'd try Fagins again and try something different. The service was good and friendly.

Mainly came here to say, have the vegan burger. It's so tasty and the consistency seems meat-like, like a very good quality homemade burger. I had to check with the waitress what it was made of, (soya beans). The chips were delicious, crunchy and perfectly cooked, the sides and sauces were all beautifully presented. Prompt service, delightful aesthetic and very reasonably priced considering the quality of the food. Very much looking forward to returning.

Have visited Fagins quite a few times over the years, I last went in May after it was refurbished and it seemed pretty good so booked up a post Xmas meals with friends. Took ages to get served and finally when the waitress arrived I asked for a half carafe of red wine only to be told “Oh we don’t do that anymore!” So ordered a £6 glass of wine which was TINY and didn’t even taste very nice. Our party arrived over a 20 minute period but we were just ignored so TWICE we went up and asked for our order to be taken. Finally we ordered and when our food arrived everyone’s pizzas were lukewarm and we had to ask a third time for our second drinks. Asked for some table water (which never arrived) and by the time we ate it was 90 minutes after we had first arrived. The blonde waitress was very pleasant but the dark haired girl was just super rude and dismissive. I have been going to Fagins for over 20 years but I’ll never set foot in there again. A truly horrible experience from start to finish, Porters is far superior in food, drinks and staff so I’d recommend anyone to go there instead!

Came here for meal Christmas Eve. Had festive menu. A huge prawn cocktail bursting with prawns with a lovely sauce. Mains was a Salmon en croute. Layered with spinach & cheese&huge piece of salmon&served with fresh veg of generous proportions. No chips in sight. Very well pleased with the meal. Well done to the two staff who kept us supplied

Visited on a Saturday night where the place was buzzing and absolutely full. Choose because it looked cosy and with nice atmosphere. We were not disappointed. Great food - moules frites and smoked salmon - were very tasty and healthy potions. I had tiramisu for dessert, which did not quite fit the bill - small and tasting way too much of cream. Good service too which always was responded with ‘of course you can’. Has to be added that some tables seemed to be less well attended too which was down to a very busy evening - it seemed! Would recommend.

A group of us had a superb lunch today at Fagins, amongst the 5 of us our choices varried one had vegan , one steak i forget the other 2s choices , i had their burger and fries, it was the best tasting burger i can ever remember having, i followed this with fabulous strawberry cheese cake ! We all loved our food and drink , the atmosphere , service , and acceptance were superb , theres nothing i can fault at all ! We had a great time there and look forward to the next time !

My first visit to this restaurant and I was very impressed by the friendly welcome, service and the food. I opted for fisherman's pie (mash potato top) with green beans, followed by tiramisu torte, both of which were delicious. My friends seemed to enjoy their meals, too. Would certainly eat here, again, when in Hastings, and happy to recommend to others.

Popped in to grab a bite - good service and very nice, reasonably priced food. I had the chilli which is quite spicy but that’s how I like it. My better half had fisherman’s pie which she said was delicious. No time for pud but i am sure we’ll go again sometime.

Great selection of delicious food. Fast, friendly and efficient service. We have eaten here many times and enjoyed it every time.

Had not been to Fagins in years, but with new owners thought i would take my wife there for a birthday meal.

Visited on a quite Monday.. and was not impressed. They kindly allowed us to order from the lunch menu, but after that service was not brilliant.
