Such a great service and delicious food. Very happy to have this gem locally and can see why it’s been going so long. Sweet chilli paneer is a favourite and excellent attentive and cheery service. Have recommended to friends and family who agree this is excellent. Will be back very soon

If you are looking for a really great place to eat that's clean with fantastic food I can recommend The Gurkha restaurant: the smell of the food is mouth watering I love the spices used and the flavours created by the chefs, all the staff are smart and friendly, I've been to this restaurant a few times now and every time I've found the service to be excellence from start to finish. The restaurant owner / managed is a lovely welcoming man. If you have never had Nepalese food before you must give The Gurkha a go and you will see and know why people keep coming back.

Went for dinner as small groups of mates, great food, lots of variety, well priced and exceptional service.

The Gurkha smashes it on every level: unique flavours, off the clock hospitality, care and attention to detail and excellence from start to finish. The restaurant is owned and managed by an absolute gentleman. We will return again and again to this gem of a restaurant which is a ruby in Chelmsford's crown!

I can't understand why this is not fully booked all the time. The food is freshly cooked, and excellent. Different flavours instead of just hot midly hot or mild. Every dish actually tastes different We've been visiting for about 3 years and it is always great food Miles better than the standard Indian type food. Really recommend a visit. And you won't be disappointed!!

Absolutely delicious. So many dishes that sound interesting, it was hard to choose. They have the standard Indian fare, but plenty of unique dishes too including venison curry(s). Great beer too.

A lovely Nepalese restaurant with great food and great service. The Nepalese duck and Jimbu dal were new to us and were super tasty. Highly recommended.

We were asked to meet our friends at the Gurka, for an evening meal, when we arrived we received a lovely warm welcome, The restaurant was beautiful, WE ordered our food, and it was lovely, can not fault it, the flavours were outstanding, I think it is one of the best meals out I have had, or THE BEST, the serice was just right, not rushed, and low key, and very attentive, Just the best, don't miss out try it!. you will not be disappointed Maggies friends

First visited this restaurant on the recommendation of a friend just before Christmas and had a fantastic meal. Returned this evening and again had a really enjoyable meal with a great choice of familiar and more unusual dishes on the menu. Service was efficient and very friendly and this will now be one of our go to restaurants in Chelmsford.

Yet again I can only praise this restaurant for it's quality of food and service. Although this occasion was a takeaway, the delivery was fast and efficient, the food was still hot and the price was excellent. I can recommend this service to anyone.

Rubbish. Spent a while placing an order only to find that after waiting in excess of an hour and a half for delivery, our order was cancelled. Won't be doing this again.

Ordered an Uber Eat for delivery around 7:30pm on a Friday night and then after waiting ages found it had been CANCELLED. Do not order from this place, they don't deserve to succeed if they cannot honour a delivery service. An absolute disgrace! Will not be making the same mistake again.

The worst experience ever, usually we eat Nepali food and Asian in general and that was horrible experience, starting from the service , the food quantity and quality. The food toke ages to come and also portions are veryyy small. I don’t recommend this restaurant at all.

We orders starters and drinks. Took 25 mins for the drinks to come when there was 1 other table with 2 at. They then brought out the main dishes an hour later and completely forgot our starters. Avoid. Used to be great, not anymore.

The food - once ordered - was served quickly. Mains were out within 15 minutes maximum which is quick (?too quick). However service left much to be desired with its slowness and abruptness. They had several tables in the restaurant but were polishing glasses behind the bar and setting up new tables late in the evening whist we were trying to pay (after having to ask for the bill, they still wouldn't come to the table to take payment) and being busy is no excuse when they were not serving current seated customers. We had to pay at the till in the end. Popadoms were served cold but presumably this is intentional. Portion sizes were OK and flavours were nice but not amazing. Overall we won't be back and wouldn't recommend it.

The restaurant we wanted to book was full, so I found this alternative by asking Google for an Indian restaurant near me. This place is Nepalese, and there are obviously some similarities because of geography. If you like Indian food and want to play it safe, there are plenty of familiar dishes to choose from. However, there are also some intriguing alternatives. How authentic it is. I don't really know (I've never been to Nepal), but I will certainly be returning to sample more of their fayre. We were in no rush, and the service was relaxed and unhurried. This worked for us last night, but if you are there for a pre-theatre meal, I'd definitely let them know so that they can push you through a bit quicker. The staff were pleasant and unobtrusive. Overall, we had a pleasant and chilled evening.

We were a party of 5 who didn't have a reservation but they accommodated us anyway. The service was excellent. Nothing was too much trouble. First of all, their services were great, but sadly the quality of drink and food wasn't the same level, one of our party ordered a cup of coffee with her meal, but the milk that came with the coffee were not fresh, and we inform a waiter to changed it but it taken close to 20 mins to get a replacement, and food.....not 100% sure but myself and two others of my family, our stomachs weren't too well that night...but once again we are not 100% sure, as when we had our food, it tasted great but again food from south Asia, most of the dishes most likely have lots of herbs and ingredients, so that might covered any unfreshness taste.

An hour later rang again and told by somebody else they could not find my order and they would ring me back 15 minutes later I rang again as they had not bothered to ring me and was told they had never received my order despite a confirmation e-mail being sent (ordered direct via web-site not a third party), when I questioned the promise that it was on its way an hour was told “that girl is new” -that old Chesnut!! Won't be bothering again
