Lek's Thai Food in Chelmsford

The best Thai food I've eaten outside of Thailand. Proper authentic and traditional dishes. Great selections. Lovely guy cooking the food from fresh. We all sat outside and enjoyed our food. Highly recommend. Curries are to die for.

You can sit in here or Baan Noodle 30 feet away, same people same food can be ordered from either menu. It’s Thai street food and it’s the real thing, nice bubble milk tea too. It’s not an evening place as it’s within the Market so shuts around 4pm Recommended lunch spot.

I always have the jungle curry,spicy and full of flavour. A big bowl with rice on the side. Great on a cold day. Had the pad Thai before also amazing.

This market stall has always brought a smile to my face when I eat there. The food is excellent and so is the service. This week I had the vegetable curry and rice - for £6.99 it was not just good value but a lovely meal.

We have travelled extensively in the Far East, and our meal here today was as close to the genuine thing in Thailand as we have ever had. Many Thai restaurants in the UK tone down the flavours to meet the more delicate European palate. This place will tone it down if asked, otherwise you will get excellent Thai food as with all the flavours of Thailand (including hot chillis). Don’t be embarrassed to ask for “not too spicy”, is absolutely no problem. If you want to really impress them , ask for “Mai Phet” (pronounced “My pet”!).

Amazing love this place, come to Lek’s all the time with my wife and kids. The food and service is brilliant. Lovely to come and sit outside to Relax and enjoy the food in the summer under the shade of the trees. My only wish is that this was a full time restaurant and not restricted by the market times.

The best red curry I have ever eaten. The curry was flavoursome, could not fault! This is going to be a place me and my partner visit when we are in Chelmsford.

Lek's hot and sour soup! May be not a reason for living, but a strange and interesting soup. I love it. All weathers!

Absolutely love Lek's Thai Food. So far we have had vegan pad Thai, and one of the curries (yellow curry possibly) served with tofu. Staff are knowledgeable about what can be made vegan and the food is flavoursome and fresh. Portions are generous and prices are very reasonable (our two dishes and a drink set us back around £15 in all, which is amazing value). There is seating in the square and also in the market itself (by their other stall), the latter of which is really charming, like a little corner of Thailand in Chelmsford!

Fantastic, and consistent! We are so lucky to have Leks in Chelmsford for freshly prepared Thai food. Very friendly staff, well priced and portioned. If you’ve never been, GO!

Without a doubt one of the best places to eat in Chelmsford. Freshly cooked and delicious. Have been coming here for over 10yrs and always good.

I've been going to Lek's for decades - I think since I started working in Chelmsford in 1997. Always good food. I always have what's ready to eat from the big pots, rather than the menu, and it is always tasty and the portions are generous. The rice is always perfectly cooked too. 5 star. My only regret is that I don't get there so much these days!

Excellent value. Really authentic Thai cuisine. Been to Thailand and this come close to my experience out there. Would recommend.

I have been wanting to try Leks for some time and when an opportunity arose to visit Chelmsford I headed to Leks to give it a try, they don't have a large sit down area so when I saw a table I grabbed it whilst I waited for my family to catch up with me so that they could save the table whilst I ordered my food. Everything was piping hot and very tasty, I thoroughly enjoyed my Chicken and Prawn Pad Thai with a side of pork and prawn spring rolls.

Absolutely delicious food which we buy to take away and eat at home but you can also eat there. Fresh food and quality ingredients. All diets catered for. Our favourite is the red beef curry.

I Always have the seafood jungle curry which is possibly the best one you will find anywhere.It’s hot ,spicy and full of flavour. The place is very welcoming and delivers on flavour with every dish. Well done everyone👍

Best thai food by a country mile, even if you have to sit outside to eat it. I have happily sat in freezing cold temps to enjoy a meal here.

Visited for first time after friends recommended, great value and authentic flavours, staff were super helpful as well, would have been good if they had also sold Thai Beer to wash down. Can’t wait to return.

Hubby and I been coming here YEARS... Quality quick wholesome spicy lunch. Never once complained :-)

If you visit Chelmsford seek out the market and if you like Thai food give Lek's a try. I am sure you will not be disappointed. The Tom Yum soup is fantastic, but be prepared for a spicy ride. The service is quick and the tables spotless.

Had a great lunch such a friendly place I had a lunchtime soup and jasmine tea so nice will visit again

Tucked away in a corner, Leks produce wonderful food in a minute space- offering everything from a couple of spring rolls with a dipping chilli sauce on a cardboard plate to eat on the hoof to a full takeaway Thai meal. Visits are less frequent now that we have moved to Suffolk but a sure port of call whenever I have to go back to the centre. Long may it prosper!

I love this place. Real Thai food, fresh and reasonably priced. Staff are lovely too. Wish it was open everyday!

Lek's was every bit as good this time as on our last visit. The Tom Yum soup was a bowl full, hot and spicey. At £6.50 it represents excellent value. The tables were clean and tidy and the staff couldn't have been more helpful in assisting me in what to chose.

If you like Thai food then make your way to the market & you will find them down the bottom. All their food is freshly prepared & is absolutely delicious & can be purchased for a very reasonable cost.

Always an excellent meal and service supplied by Kat and her team. My wife and I love the food so much we had them do the catering for our wedding a few years ago.

Great tasty food on the go, as good as any restaurant, if not better and great value for money, nothing to look at by multi-storey in Chelmsford but recommend try it.

if you'r into a street food like experience then then this is it. it inside an undercover market and there is no thrills, you will order your food and then sit on plastic chairs. the food is amazing and cheap, wish this was in my town!

This food bar can be found at the end of the market next to the butchers, you can eat there or get a takeaway. They have a nice menu, their food is all freshly cooked & can be purchased for a very reasonable cost

I’ve been going to Lek’s for years and they have the most amazing food that you can either eat in or takeaway. The green chicken curry is my favourite. I’ve been to Thailand and I still haven’t found a green curry that is better than the one at Lek’s! I will continue to always come back here.

Excellent food, fresh and served piping hot, available for takeaway or eat there at nice outdoor seating area in market. We got takeaway and walked across the street and sat at picnic benches in the park, large menu. Thai, curry, stir fry. If you go during a busy time, you can expect to wait awhile but it’s worth it. Suggest you order first then roam around the market until the food is gone. I had bean curd veggies, very good, full of veggies

Everything you need from a Thai dinner. Cheap eats. Fabulous plates. Exotic dishes and staff that know traditional cooking and can deliver. At last somewhere for quick noodle dish right near the market.

Basic and good Thai lunch spot in centre of Chelmsford. Super friendly staff and tasty noodles and curries. Every town and city should have a relaxed street food option like this. Recommended!

I had 1/2 hour to catch a bus and was looking for somewhere for a quick lunch. I stumbled upon Lek's Thai Food and thank goodness I did! Delicious Thai vegetarian green curry served instantly. Very reasonable price. Nice spot to sit outside, either overlooking the park or in an enclosed area surrounded by attractive plants. Service with a smile. Plus proper china and cutlery, not disposable rubbish. Couldn't ask for more. And I was able to catch my bus with time to spare.

Stopped here for lunch while the council were renovating the market. Food was being cooked in an outside kitchen, the owners were very resourceful and served up a delicious menu. Had the Thai green chicken curry and it was aromatic and spicy just as I remember from Thailand. Husband had the Chicken Crispy Noodle from neighbouring outlet Baan Noodle and this was equally delicious, lots of chicken, lightly cooked vegetables and an aromatic sauce. Will be back soon.

Me and my girlfriend are regulars here most weekends, some of the best thai food I've ever tried and most dishes are under £7. Cant recommend this place highly enough.

Regularly use this place for lunch when Essex are playing cricket just the other side of the river. The menu isn't massive but the food is always top notch, authentic and excellent value. Massively better than the food served up in the County Ground.

This cafe is part of the indoor market and we have eaten here a few times now, every time the food has been excellent always freshly cooked and delicious authentic tasting dishes at a very reasonable cost. Only reason it has been given a 4* rating is that there is no indoor seating so needs to be a reasonable day weather wise so you can sit outside in comfort. Mind you there is the availability of takeaway too so weather shouldn't really be a problem. Would definitely recommend if you enjoy Thai food.

I have used the Lek’s Thai food stall in Chelmsford market for some time now and the quality of the food is amazing for what is, after all, a market stall. The choice is good - it doesn’t really matter what you choose the quality is always superb and the girls in there are always smiling and will help with your choice of dishes. If this was a restaurant it would be bookings only - the food is that good. It is a pity about suitable seating areas, particularly in the very cold weather we are having at the moment, but when you do sit down to eat you realise the seating doesn’t really matter!

Great food, beautifully flavoured and served promptly by very friendly and organised staff. Very little inside seating and outdoors can be a little cold at times. I've had takeaways on a few occasions and they never disappoint.

Don’t be put of by the location and enjoy first class Thai street food. All freshly cooked.the owner was very knowledgeable and gave me advice on what I needed to buy so that I cook the food myself

If you are in Chelmsford & fancy something different to eat then why not try this cafe. It can be found at the end of the market right next to the butchers. All their food is freshly cooked on the premises & is very tasty & can be purchased for a very reasonable price.

Been to Chelmsford a couple of times recently but somehow missed this little gem of a place but not this time !

I wanted to leave a review and a thank you to the staff of this restaurant, I have many dietary restrictions and in general like to stay away from spicy food. Our waitress was very understanding and nonjudgmental and very helpful. All the dishes tasted fantastic, and the duck was unbelievable.

Excellent meal v reasonable good service with a smile. Outside tables sat with our dog nice visit to Chelmsford.

Friendly staff. Food is piping hot when it arrives. Duck curry tastes fantastic with fresh veggies and a generous amount of duck - never fails to fill me up! Very affordable too! Love this place!

Found this place on the Trip Advisor site and was able to eat Authentic Thai street food at very reasonable price. Staff were very helpful and food was good size portions packed full of flavour. We will definitely be coming back for more.

This serves good chinese food. The people working are not friendly & willing to do any dishes to suit our request. The Noodle Bar which is also part of this restaurant but located further inside the building serves very good noodle dishes & the staff working are very friendly & helpful. The service is also good. If you are in this location it's better to go to the Noodle Bar inside.

This little gem of a place in the market is where I have experienced the best Thai Food ever... and yes I have been to Thailand before but this takes the cake! It's so authentic, full of flavour and taste just like it would in Bangkok - for as little as £5.50 you can have a very large portion of curry and boiled rice... plus loads of starters!

Just the best Thai food I've ever had in the UK. A little market shack but serving the most delicious, unbelievable food. Pad Thai's, green curry - great selection of authentic Thai snacks - all cooked on the spot by three lovely old Thai ladies. Chelmsford's best kept secret. Be aware though - it's a market stall, not a restaurant. Some tables outside or available to take away. It's not a posh place. Proper street food.

I come here regularly but today was a little disappointed. The chicken Massaman was only lukewarm which rather spolied it perhaps the cooker had gone out on that particular curry (the curries are all pre-prepared in large saucepans on the cooker at the front). This is the second time this has happened I can only suggest they check the cookers regularly to make sure the curries stay hot. Not a lot of spice in the curry either I found it a bit bland and needed lots of chilli flakes to liven it up. I usually go for the Chilli Beef curry which I will revert back to next time.

Didn't fancy paying £7 for a Currywurst inside the cricket ground so good old Trip Advisor sorted me out again. Excellent Thai Food sat in the sun. My Stir Fried King Prawns with Cashew Nuts, Peppers and Onions was full of flavour and a very reasonable price. You only have to look at how many take aways were going out at lunch time to see how good this place is.

Great place to visit , just on the outskirts of the market. Food is excellent for a very low price. Service is good you don’t wait long. You have to sit outside , so not s good on a rainy day.

You gotta try the pad thia tho it is authentic and marvellous left me wantin more I reckon I could've squeezed in another's sneaky serving . Highly recommended

Having foresworn the burger (the bun, gluten etc) this is my go-to snack venue on a Saturday. Lovely food. Would have been 5 but there’s usually a bit of a wait!

When I ordered the pad thai I asked how long would the wait be and they said 10 mins.

If you like Thai food then make your way to the market & you will find this food outlet right at the bottom near the butchers. They have some freshly prepared items on offer to tempt you & you will not be disappointed.

Visit this place at least once a month and the food is out of this world! Ok it’s not a fancy place to sit and have a meal but if you want authentic Thai cuisine this is the place to go!

Let's offers great Thai red and Jungle curry at fantastic prices. It's very well known locally and be prepared for a cue at lunch times but definitely worth the wait!

What a great place this is for a tasty lunch. Quick service, everything is so tasty, service is quick and value is amazing. Whole family loves it.

This place never lets me down, I have enjoyed lunch meetings, lunch with family and take away’s. On this visit we enjoyed spring rolls with sweet chilli dip and Thai chicken green curry with rice. The curry is amazing and a personal favourite.

We stopped in for lunch today after my other half had been previously and said how nice it was.

I've always liked Lek's, they've always offered fresh food at competitive prices. I visited on a Saturday at 2 PM and was left disappointed. It seems like the tiny kitchen is now serving Lek's plus the new Noodle bar in the corner, some 30 steps away. They don't seem to have the staffing or operational methods in place yet to successfully support both venues.

Good food, nice staff and pleasant location to sit and enjoy good food. Recommend the pad thai. Perfect for a mid shopping lunch or nipping out from work for a lunch break

I love the red curry I get everytime with the portion of rice. Despite its high level of hotness the taste is truly delightful and just the right portion to make your money worth. It is truly worth going to and lovely to eat.

Buena comida para comer fuera y tomar distancia. Siempre rápido y eficiente servicio. Como alternativa siempre espacio exterior puedes caminar 30 segundos al parque al lado de la carretera para comer.

Cayó en Leks por primera vez en viernes como me sentía bastante hambre. Me alegro de no como quisiese Pad Thai. El tamaño de la ayudando fue más que suficiente para satisfacer mi hambre. El costo fue de sólo 5 libras. 50. Creo que cuánto costaría si fue en un restaurante. Sería por lo menos el doble, aunque admito que sería pagar más por estar en un edificio en vez de disfrutar del sol. Haga su elección.

Really love having lunch here, my current favourite dish is Tom Yum noodle soup. So fresh with lots of great vegetables! Definitely the best lunch in town!

Excellent Thai food, great prices, friendly service, clean and NOT served on polystyrene plates. You can sit in the noodle bar inside the market if it's to cold to sit outside.

We indulged in a take away from here this bank holiday weekend and it tasted better than it looked . If shopping near by when the market is on , try this tasty little venu .

Hadn't been to Chelmsford for years and stumbled acros this place by accident as we were leaving the indoor market. Saw 2 elderly ladies tucking into something tasty-looking and promptly decided to have lunch here! We were not disappointed. I had the chicken pad Thai, which came sprinkled with crushed nuts and chilli and was delicious. My hubby had the duck curry which he thoroughly enjoyed, while my (not very adventurous) son just had a couple of spring rolls with chilli sauce, which were quickly devoured. Prices very reasonable and it all came served on china plates, not the usual disposable takeaway tableware.I will definitely return next time I'm in Chelmsford!

I absolutely love Leks. I introduced all my friends too, who now equally love it there. The food is excellent, the starters are great also. The food comes quickly and is reasonably cheap, the service is good too. Leks is one of my favourite places in chelmsford to eat. Most seating is outside, but covered, once you've tried it though you will be willing to brave cold weather to enjoy their food!

Whenever I'm in Chelmsford and need some lunch, I try to head to leks. The food is pretty authentic and served with a smile.Any of the currys, some rice and a spring roll - perfect!If the sun is shining, you can sit outside and for a moment imagine you're in Thailand!

Got told about this place by a friend at work and now I can't stop going. Really quick fresh Thai food, a main dish is £5.50 and you get the rice thrown in for free. My favourite the Thai sweet and sour chicken, so tasty and a completely different flavour to a chinese sweet and sour and not sticky either!

I've travelled round Thailand and since being back have been trying to find something similar to what Thailand offers and finally have!! This little place is great!! Food is amazing !! I found myself with half an hour free prior to an appointment at the registry office (to collect my friend's death certificate), and a hankering for lunch, so I figured I'd give Lek's a visit. My wife and I visited Thailand many times, and I've always been impressed by the emphasis Thai cafés and restaurants place on the food, rather than the décor. Some of the best Thai food I've ever eaten was in central Bangkok, in a restaurant with white plastic patio furniture. Lek's is situated in the corner of Chelmsford's market, itself underneath a grim multi-story car park that is perhaps getting a bit long in the tooth. There are a few tables outside on the plaza that forms part of Cornhill, but on a bright but chilly November day, with a wicked wind blowing, I chose to sit at one of the stools inside. The whole venture is crammed into the tiniest of units, but was busily serving customer after customer.I ordered a couple of vegetable spring rolls (£1.50) and chicken Pad Thai (£5.50). The spring rolls were packed, crisp and tasty, I snaffled them before I remembered to photograph them. The Pad Thai followed a few minutes later, a sizeable portion, piping hot and tasty, plenty of chicken, with the traditional garnishes of crushed peanuts and dried chilli flakes. My preconceptions were justified, the food was delicious, even if the surroundings were less than luxurious; great, affordable, authentic Thai food.

Fantastic authentic Thai street food, super hot curry and sticky rice, very reasonably priced. Daily specials and a great supply of ingredient's for those who want to have a go themselves.
