Shabag Indian Takeaway in Chelmsford

My friend always gets takeaway from here. The food was absolutely delicious, moist meat, perfectly spiced, hot and tasty. Brilliant service and delivered early. Can’t fault. Don’t hesitate to try. Especially lamb biryani and chicken makhani.

This was my favourite Indian takeaway for the last two years or so, but recently the quality has really dropped off and the prices have risen too. This is a real shame as the proprietor is a wonderful person and a valuable part of the local community. I’m going elsewhere at the moment but I will give them another chance when I see an improvement in their reviews.

Best Indian by a mile and very reasonably priced, the only 1 I'll use

Very disappointed, have been going to Shabag for years but tonight’s meal was tepid so we had to reheat the dishes, and less meat in all of the curries. Really gone downhill. It’s not cheap either so won’t be getting a takeaway from here again.

Gone downhill a lot recently. Last night the Patia was the heat and colour of korma. The madras was mild. We got a plain naan instead of Keema. Never again for us now. Tasteless, disappointing after so many years - perhaps a new chef, who knows.

This place came with many recommendations. I find it very average. I ordered a chicken danshak. The chicken was not nice, tasted like it had been frozen for a LONG time. Sauce was quite nice. I also oredered a tandoori rhoti, but got a plain naan instead. Why doesn't Chelmsford have a great Indian? I used to live in Bishop's Stortford and we were spoilt for choice?

Having used this Indian takeaway service for so many years, tonight unfortunately, our usual experience all changed. We placed our food order via the App for delivery and settled ourselves for a Saturday night at home. One and a half hours later nothing arrived. After a phone call the food arrived which we duly unpacked, no apology or anything. As I noted above we have used this company many times and never have I experienced such poor quality food or service. My opinion at the time was that everyone is entitled to a bad day, hence we called the company. The young receptionist listened to our issues and informed he couldn’t do anything and would need to speak to the boss who would call us within 15 mins. He didn’t call, 4 times we had to call back and finally got to speak to the Boss who unfortunately didn’t care or he gave that impression. He suggested I deliver the food back to him which kind of makes a mockery of a Saturday night delivery service. I now have bag of disappointing food in a plastic carrier bag next to the front door which is going back tomorrow. This isn’t about the quality of the food which I hasten to add is usually good, it’s about the poor management skills and the “couldn’t give a s….t attitude, we have your money” Attitude. Having said all that if that’s the quality of food you are now producing I’d keep clear of this takeaway service. I have spent hundreds of pounds with this outlet and tonight they really didn’t care that they have ruined our evening, Imagine you was a new customer.

Wicked takeaway as usual, had ordered online but for delivery, was in area and let me wait for meal which was not long, didn't mind at all cause they had seating and karate kid was on the TV, totally recommended

All round a nice indain restaurant fairly priced and very tasty does get extremely busy so order in advanced especially friday and Saturday evenings

I opted for a takeaway here last Saturday and can honestly say it was delicious. I went for a few items from the chef’s special and the service was great and was delivered in good time. I recommend Shabag to anyone looking for a 5* Indian takeaway.

Had a takeaway for the 1st time tonight. The young man at the counter spoke impeccable English and was very courteous & friendly. Ordered quite a few dishes and food was ready in 15 min as advised. The veg biryani, lamb naga, king prawn kurma, onion bhajee and sag bhajee were all flavourful and tasty. Certainly beats a lot of the other Indian takeaways. Well done, will return again.

Take away with my husband. Blatant jar sauces. Would never have food from here again. Potato’s we’re soggy and flavourless, garlic naan with no garlic, missing rice.. the list goes on. We threw our food away

Good food. Staff are always polite. I've had delivery and collection before and not had any issues. Plenty to choose from on the menu. I normally order from the website and get updates on how soon the food will be done and delivered.

Best Indian ever, they are so friendly & polite. I love ordering from Shabag. Food is always to a fresh standard even if you reheat the next day, I’ve always been fine and enjoyed it just as much ! Well done to the chef and there staff. Delivery driver is also very polite.

Was recommended to try this takeaway a month ago, ordered the 1st time and one of the main meals was missing, restaurant advised next time they would credit us, which they did. 2nd time I ordered all was good. 3rd time I was sent a 15% discount code so I reordered, this time 2 items were missing and no 15% discount, I rang site and was offered the price of the missing items off the next the next bill. I'm happy to say the food was good, but I will not be using them again.

Easy access to the takeaway. Good value and tasty food. Discount if you collect. Parking out front in a car park.

We read very good reviews on this Indian takeaway service so we thought we’d give it a try. While the food was nice we had found it to be very very oily, so oily that the oil was leaking through the bag and out of the cartons. We had found it to be very off putting but we ate the food. Unfortunately we won’t be ordering again as we found our experience very off putting.

I’ve had a few take aways from Shabag and they have all been great. The food is very tasty with generous portions. The staff are super friendly and I would definitely recommend them. Maz and his brother so a great job.

We have eaten from Shabag for many years and have on occasion tried other Indian take aways, none of which compare! The food is always piping hot and delicious. We love the Tandoori garlic chilli masala. Good customer service also.

I ordered From this takeaway after reading the reviews. All I can say is I’m really disappointed, I so wanted this to be good. I have lived in Essex for 20 years and can not find a decent Indian Curry.

We've used Shabag for a couple of years now and are never disappointed. Tonight's meal was the best ever and the service as always prompt , heat HOT and delicious. Can't recommend enough and wouldn't go anywhere else.

Ordered over phone..took sometime to get my order understood..when I arrived to collect order was wrong Felt it was over priced compared to other Indian takeaways I have used.

Had a delivery last week I had prawn madras with a mushroom rice OMG. It was fantastic My better half had sheek kebab starter, garlic chicken tikka and a keema garlic naan And we shared onion bahjee Absolutely outstanding I hadn't had a takeaway from the Shabag for about 10 years Had a leaflet through the door that they were delivering in our area so gave it a try The madras was spicy but tasty... not overbearingly hot....absolutely spot on Ordering again tomorrow night!!!!

We as a family have been using the Shabag for many years. We have tried others but always return here. Please try and ignore the setting. The shop front take away is friendly, clean and always produces consistent high standards.

Was a bit disappointing that I had bits missing of my order,to be fair they did get it out to me straight away.

Food is good, let down by service. They charge extra if you order online (perversely). When I argued the point (on two occasions) they just shrugged their shoulders and said it wasn't their problem rather it was the people who manage their website for them. So either they employ a website firm who takes the Mickey, or they refused to pay their website firm what they owe, who then bills us instead. Either way, it's a shabag responsibility, which they refuse!!

We have been regular customers at Shabg for 5 years - never had bad meal in all that time.

Do not use...serve food made with off ingredients, and when confronted they tell You that this is how it's meant to taste! The sauces had completely curdled and smelt of sour milk, but apparently that's normal!No refunds, they don't care, do your selves a favour and save your money or go get a pizza!!

Their take away meals are always first class And cooked to a very good standard

First take away order with these guys and straight out the gate , they forgot a nan bread. They delivered the nan bread cold an hour later, so wasn’t too impressed. The food was ok, but I’ve had better from one of their competitors . One of the main dishes was swimming in oil and we honestly could not tell the difference between the madras and Bhuna sauce. May be they were busy and trying to rush the food out, but I doubt very much we’ll be ordering from there again. It’s a shame as we wanted to try a different Indian take away, but I wish we would of stuck to what we know.

I have used this takeaway for many years and I'm still not disappointed. The staff are very helpful and friendly, good portion sizes. You have the option of getting it deleverd or collect it for a 10% disscount i highly recommend this takeaway.

I can’t recommend this place highly enough. The best curry house run by a beautiful Bangladeshi family. A hidden treasure of Chelmsford that adds something special to the community of Great Baddow and particularly to us who live in Meadgate. They have been an important part of my life for the past 10 years. Wonderful.

Awful service, ordered dinner at 7.32pm and still at 8.54pm not arrived despite husband calling 10 minutes ago and then Saying not far away. Never again

I phoned up to order a chicken curry and asked how many 1 would serve to which the rude man on the phone got angry at said so how many curries do you want. I said just 1 and then I asked for 2 sprite cans to which the guy said "2 comes?" I said no 2 sprite,he finally understood and then asked for my number to which he didn't understand and soon I was transferred to a person who did understand and finally got given the right price. This was terrible customer service with the 1st guy sounding very rude but the food was great .

Si quieres estar muy satisfecha con el sabor, el tamaño de las porciones y el precio de la comida India y Bangladesh en Chelmsford, elija Shabag! El sabor es realmente increíble! Puede tomar hasta una hora para conseguir la comida en la opción de entrega de casa, pero vale la pena la espera. Mi familia disfrutó de una y otra vez a lo largo de los años, el pollo al vindaloo pollo tikka masala, pollo tikka masala, pollo tikka shashlik, Pollo Korma y el arroz de verduras, pan Naan y ensalada de cebolla son muy sabrosos! We always get our Indian from here, portion sizes are generous, food always delicious, price reasonable. The owners are so nice, always welcoming and keep us informed where our food is and if it's running late. Definitely recommend.

I'm sure this place used to be better. Rice was missing (tried to see if I had been charged but no variation of the order matched the bill, if anything I was still probably undercharged)I had the Lamb Madras. The toughest, muttonest lamb I've ever had in an Indian. The Chicken Tikka was ok at best.I can say the service was quick and the staff very friendly.

Have been using this take away since for the last 10 years and generally has been very good value for money. Over the last 4 months it seem to have changed and the whole family just haven't enjoyed the last few meals as much as we used to They just don't taste the same. Maybe they have a new chef. The service is still really good.

what a joke how do people like this place? waited for a hour and 45 minutes for him to walk up my drive and bang in to my car I tell him I don't want it he says yes yes yes yes try's to give me it then I have to tell him to move off my drive then he walks in to my car again before leaving

Have been ordering Indian food from this excellent take-away for about 10 years now and I consider them the best of the best in Chelmsford when it comes to such type of food, as the taste of all dishes I ever ordered from them was absolutely perfect! My main recommendations are chicken tikka saag, chicken tikka shashlik, chicken vindaloo, chicken tikka masala, chicken korma, vegetable rice, mushroom rice and plain naan bread...Good appetite to you too!

ordered food at 19:15 and was told it would be 40-45 mins. My husband set off at 7:55 to collect. There were 26 customers in there all waiting for their takeaway. This was a bad sign and I would've cancelled at that point but my husband has more patience than me. 2 hours later he returned with food. No taste. Rice undercooked. What a waste of money. On collecting the food my husband was offered a 30% discount on next order. I don't think we will be going back any time soon!!

Delivery driver was very polite and the zalfrezi which I'd never heard of before, I would definitely recommend! Great value for money - impressed customer
