Everest Gurkha Bar & Restaurant in Chelmsford

I love this restaurant. Business has taken me to Chelmsford twice so far and on the first occasion, this restaurant was recommended to me and I am so grateful! The restaurant is very well decorated and it has a lovely atmosphere. The staff are happy and very attentive. You will be well looked after! The food! The food is just fantastic! On my second visit, I ordered Choila and Nepalese Lamb Shank (plus rice and poppadoms). The dishes were simply excellent and I am looking forward to my next business trip to Chelmsford!

Great food, good value, excellent service. Not much more to be said. Only small down side was that we originally sat at the front and were a bit chilly so moved to the back of restaurant and it was fine. The weather was freezing so probably not usually a problem.

This is my favorite restaurant in Chelmsford. The food is great! The portion size is quite large which you don't always get and it's all for a reasonable price. Highly recommend.

My wife and I came here for dinner on a Tuesday night, the restaurant was cold and lacked any form of ambience. The aircon was on in mid December.. The service wasn’t great. The waiter had poured the wrong beers and asked if we’d have that instead of the less expensive option, we said sure, but as long as you honour the price. He said no initially but we told him to check with his manager. All fine. The food was well below average, everything had a plastic-y taste and generally lacked any sort of flavour. It’s like they had cooked everything in the same pan and just separated it all when it came to plating. We were disappointed with the service and food, and sadly wont be returning. Check your bill too, they tried to charge us twice for some items. It’s a shame as this place had been on our radar for a while but there are far better curry houses in Chelmsford.

Food was absolutely amazing, we had lots of dishes and literally everything was delicious!

Delightful Nepalese curry house, though perhaps a little quiet. The main man is a delightful gent and they were wonderfully accomodation with my veganism. If you're in Chelmsford and like a curry, I'd strongly and happily recommend.

In our quest to find a decent curry house in Chelmsford, we gave The Gurkha a whirl in the summer and it was pretty good but a bit soulless, so we decided to try again on a Friday night. We shouldn't have bothered. It started badly. We called two or three times during the day to see if they did corkage but no reply. So, we walked in with a bottle of wine and asked them the question. "What is corkage?" was the response from the manager/maitre'd. So, you're front of house and don't know what corkage is - a forgivable oversight but when I explained what corkage is, offering to pay, they dismissed the suggestion. We drank water. That aside, the service was distinctly average and the food was very disappointing compared to our previous experience. On requesting the bill, we were asked what we had to drink. A) That's your job mate. B) It was not forthcoming so we went to the front desk in order to pay and were asked what we had had to drink ! As we paid, another couple walked out having only had drinks so it wasn't just us ! Maybe the kitchen was having an off night but unfortunately we won't be back to find out.

Delicious food, great drinks, and staff who are incredibly friendly and attentive - always a brilliant experience! The set menu is excellent, especially given the bottomless rice and naan. Highly, highly recommend.

Visited Saturday night, beautiful curries, naan bread was good, service was good but they were a little too quick to try and clear the table. Took away my friends curry as he was still eating his naan bread. Price was decent - £35 for a curry, rice and naan with 2 large Gurkha beers. Would definitely return.

A little gem, amazing food at exceptional value

This is not a place for vegans. Main meals for vegans were limited to a veg Dal Bhakti Massu , which is a combination of side dishes, and a vegetable biryani. I asked for a soda and lime but they only had lemonade which was poured out of a large bottle. This bottle must have been open for a while as it was flat and the drink cost me £3.50. Very disappointed. I will not return.

We experienced take away service. We enjoyed a variety of dishes, including onion bhaji, poppadams with chutneys, salmon, chicken, lamb, rice and naan breads. All excellent, and nicely spiced and seasoned. Generous portions.

The dish we ordered was spicier than expected - but they offered to re-make it & also gave us a Bailey's in the house (not real Bailey's, but a nice gesture). Would try again & choose a different dish.

Peshwari naan was the best I’ve ever tasted warm and crisp but still soft. Very tasty the duck starter went down a treat. Brilliant service will come again!

Went as a family of 4 to celebrate a birthday. Great food. Well cooked, well presented. Extensive menu, reasonably priced. Friendly and professional waiting staff. It made a great celebration meal. Will definitely be going back.

Absolutely charming place. We had a lovely time and a date in this restaurant. The staff are very nice, the food was delicious. Best curry I have ever had :) I recommend Chicken SHERPA KUKHURA, it was very creamy, spicy enough but not too spicy, and the chicken was very juicy. I recommend having it with rice.

Firstly I would like to say a massive thank you.. It was my mother-in-law's 70th birthday, we had never been before!! I’m guessing the man who greeted us was the owner/manager .. WOW he made us welcome the second we walked in and made everyone sing happy birthday.it was very well organised ( Elvis night) The food was lovely.. We all had a fantastic evening,and will definitely be going back . Well done to all your staff.. excellent x

Food is just edible. The service was nice. THE PORTION SIZE IS CRAZY SMALL. Ordered the mish mash masu for £17 and it came with just 7 pieces of meat 3 chicken 3 lamb and a single shrimp that were overcooked. Jokes. Other dishes were also very small portions. Do not recommend!!!

Went in with a group of friends and we were greeted by very friendly staff. I was recommended the staff curry, and wasn't disappointed. One of the nicest curries I've had in a long time. Everyone else in the group was happy with their meals. Will definitely be visiting again.

Eaten here many times and often at their themed nights. Such great food, lovely owner and staff. Never had a bad meal or experience.

Visited early on a Friday evening, around 6.15 and only one other table was occupied. I ordered the Lansun Piro Hari (venison) and my wife had the Kukhura Lababdar (chicken) We also had the tandoori roti, mushroom rice and onion bhaji. First impression was that the roti was thin and small and covered in oil/ghee/butter? The venison dish was a rather unfortunate shade of brown with a decent amount of venison in a LOT of sauce and the chicken dish had pieces of very pale chicken, not the vibrand red, with charred edges you'd expect of tandoori chicken. My wife said the chicken dish was only just warm with very little taste. Whereas mine was warm but had no taste! I'd ordered my alien-to-me dish based on the description; "Diced venison steak grilled in the clay oven, cooked in a unique style curry leaves, mustard seeds, Nepalese spices with a touch of coconut cream" so felt pretty disappointed. We've not been here for a few years and thought we'd give it another go but with such an uninspiring meal and with so many choices of restaurants in Chelmsford we won't be returning.

Very odd atmosphere, cold and loud music. Poppadoms stale and cold, only 2 sauces. Tiny portion of 2 prawns for £6, Chicken tikka masala very rubbery, chicken jalfrezi extremely bland. No depth of flavour in either. Saag bhaji is just puréed spinach out of a tin, with no flavour, texture or seasoning. This restaurant seems stuck in 30 years ago when British Indian food was awful. Only the service was of good standard. Extremely disappointing meal.

Very bad food , no taste even basic ingredient like salt missing . Onion bhajji black in colour , we will never recommend anyone to come here.The quality and taste of the is gone down .

Food was delicious and great value for money

Such a great service and delicious food. Very happy to have this gem locally and can see why it’s been going so long. Sweet chilli paneer is a favourite and excellent attentive and cheery service. Have recommended to friends and family who agree this is excellent. Will be back very soon

If you are looking for a really great place to eat that's clean with fantastic food I can recommend The Gurkha restaurant: the smell of the food is mouth watering I love the spices used and the flavours created by the chefs, all the staff are smart and friendly, I've been to this restaurant a few times now and every time I've found the service to be excellence from start to finish. The restaurant owner / managed is a lovely welcoming man. If you have never had Nepalese food before you must give The Gurkha a go and you will see and know why people keep coming back.

One of the best places to eat, they have such a great variety of food, it tastes fantastic and the service is exceptional. I loved the atmosphere and will definitely be returning. Can’t recommend this place enough.

The Gurkha smashes it on every level: unique flavours, off the clock hospitality, care and attention to detail and excellence from start to finish. The restaurant is owned and managed by an absolute gentleman. We will return again and again to this gem of a restaurant which is a ruby in Chelmsford's crown!

Went for dinner as small groups of mates, great food, lots of variety, well priced and exceptional service.

I can't understand why this is not fully booked all the time. The food is freshly cooked, and excellent. Different flavours instead of just hot midly hot or mild. Every dish actually tastes different We've been visiting for about 3 years and it is always great food Miles better than the standard Indian type food. Really recommend a visit. And you won't be disappointed!!

Absolutely delicious. So many dishes that sound interesting, it was hard to choose. They have the standard Indian fare, but plenty of unique dishes too including venison curry(s). Great beer too.

A warm welcome and delicious food. We went for a pre-theatre meal as it is very conveniently located and are planning to visit again soon.

A lovely Nepalese restaurant with great food and great service. The Nepalese duck and Jimbu dal were new to us and were super tasty. Highly recommended.

We were asked to meet our friends at the Gurka, for an evening meal, when we arrived we received a lovely warm welcome, The restaurant was beautiful, WE ordered our food, and it was lovely, can not fault it, the flavours were outstanding, I think it is one of the best meals out I have had, or THE BEST, the serice was just right, not rushed, and low key, and very attentive, Just the best, don't miss out try it!. you will not be disappointed Maggies friends

First visited this restaurant on the recommendation of a friend just before Christmas and had a fantastic meal. Returned this evening and again had a really enjoyable meal with a great choice of familiar and more unusual dishes on the menu. Service was efficient and very friendly and this will now be one of our go to restaurants in Chelmsford.

We’ve been saying for a few years that we should visit this restaurant but have just never got around to it. Oh wow, we have missed out for those few years. We visited for the first time and absolutely loved it. The ambience and decor of the restaurant itself is great and the food is amazing. Yet again I can only praise this restaurant for it's quality of food and service. Although this occasion was a takeaway, the delivery was fast and efficient, the food was still hot and the price was excellent. I can recommend this service to anyone.

Poor quality of food, some of the food was undercooked and raw, took over an hour to receive our main meal. Very poor vegetarian options on the menu. Unfortunately won’t be going back and the food is over priced for what it is

Rubbish. Spent a while placing an order only to find that after waiting in excess of an hour and a half for delivery, our order was cancelled. Won't be doing this again.

Ordered an Uber Eat for delivery around 7:30pm on a Friday night and then after waiting ages found it had been CANCELLED. Do not order from this place, they don't deserve to succeed if they cannot honour a delivery service. An absolute disgrace! Will not be making the same mistake again.

The worst experience ever, usually we eat Nepali food and Asian in general and that was horrible experience, starting from the service , the food quantity and quality. The food toke ages to come and also portions are veryyy small. I don’t recommend this restaurant at all.

We orders starters and drinks. Took 25 mins for the drinks to come when there was 1 other table with 2 at. They then brought out the main dishes an hour later and completely forgot our starters. Avoid. Used to be great, not anymore.

Best takeaway in Chelmsford. Little expensive but worth the money. Try the mish mash mush. I have travelled Nepal, this place serves really traditional food.

Eaten in twice and had the most amazing meals. Just had them on Deliveroo and it was disgusting. I’m sure sunday night isn’t a busy one but you should not be sending out re-heated chicken tikka. Struggled to cut and chew it.

This place has never let me down the food is fantastic every time and the Staff are amazing. Everyone who I recommend always give it top reviews. The boss is a true gentleman and meticulous in every thing he’s does.

The food - once ordered - was served quickly. Mains were out within 15 minutes maximum which is quick (?too quick). However service left much to be desired with its slowness and abruptness. They had several tables in the restaurant but were polishing glasses behind the bar and setting up new tables late in the evening whist we were trying to pay (after having to ask for the bill, they still wouldn't come to the table to take payment) and being busy is no excuse when they were not serving current seated customers. We had to pay at the till in the end. Popadoms were served cold but presumably this is intentional. Portion sizes were OK and flavours were nice but not amazing. Overall we won't be back and wouldn't recommend it.
