Great Visit to the Elm Tree Inn, Last Sunday a we arrived unplanned, a large party of 17 of us. as this was on the door step of where we was staying and with it been a last minuet plan we didn't book, the guys behind the bar was very accommodating, (probs very surprised with such a large party just wondering in) Great selection of drinks available at a very good price. When ordering they where a few items which were sold out, but this was made clear at the beginning and advised us on there stock levels when ordering. Although taken by surprise they was no delay on the food been served, everything arrived hot and was very tasty, Clean plates all round. Great little spot for a cozy pub lunch or dinner. Thank you for you great service and great food.

What a lovely warm welcome we received on arrival, the staff couldn’t do enough for us, they even allowed us to stay in our campervan in their carpark. The food was fantastic and great value for money - we couldn’t fault it. The pub itself was charming, clean and comfortable with a well kept outdoor area. The following day we had issues with our camper and again the staff were happy to assist. We will definitely return when we are back in the area. Thank you so much to you all at Elm Tree Inn.

What a great British pub! We stayed in Embsay for a weekend and rang ahead to book a table (not always necessary}. we arrived after a long drive and found a pub with a great welcome, friendly locals greeted a couple of strangers into their pub and we felt immediately at home. The food is quite delicious, well presented and served promptly with a smile, we ended up staying for 3 courses, the sticky toffee pudding, my gold standard for desert, was 100% superb, can't fault it. Beer was fresh and well kept. had to stop for a few pints (would have been rude not to). Value for money? definitely. Great locals pub with room for travellers. Well done!

Excellent choice of food and good value for money. Reasonable choice of gluten free food and my wife loved the chicken curry which was spicier than a usual pub meal. They cater for dogs and even made up a plate of sausages which he loved and the staff provided doggy biscuits whilst we waited for our meal. The meals did take a bit longer than expected considering it was not particularly busy.

Fabulous place, staff were great very chatty and welcoming, the pub was very clean and cozy. Whilst house hunting in the area and getting caught in torrential rain we found this pub - warm welcome, friendly vibe, friendly staff and customers. We just had a sandwich but god what a sarnie!! We got a roast beef and a ham - both absolutely full of meat, served with chips, side salad and coleslaw and only £7.95. Bargain! Excellent value. Team very accommodated with other customers preferences for chips or fries etc. Will be back, and fingers crossed the retirement dream comes true and this becomes a regular haunt!!

Called in for a late lunch on Saturday after a walk over the Crag and was very, very pleasantly surprised. We were immediately greeted by the very friendly and welcoming bar maid who asked how she could help. She quickly brought us menus and pointed out the specials board then took our drinks order and quickly returned with them before giving us time to choose our food and returning to take our orders. Menu was pretty extensive for a small village pub and included starters, mains and desserts. We skipped the starters but the mains on offer included plenty of good 'pub grub', snacks, sandwiches and lighter bites. We opted for the homemade steak pie with chips and veg which was spot on (and included a delicious, thick gravy boat) and a jacket potatoe with two fillings and small side salad. When the barmaid spotted me making my way to the bar for more drinks she very obligingly came over to us to take our order and again returned quickly with them. Having fairly quickly polished off our mains and seen the exceptional choice of puddings (I prefer 'puddings' to 'desserts', especially when the choices include a number of sponge puddings and custard) we couldn't resist and when asked if we wanted anything further ordered a syrup sponge (and custard) and a bakewell tart (and custard!). Although probably not homemade this time, they still went down a treat and for £4.95 each were great value by today's standards. As I went to pay I was delighted that the whole bill came to just £40.30 which was exceptional value for the quantity and quality of food we were served. The staff had all been very friendly, helpful and efficient (particularly the bar maid) so a generous tip still made the lunch great value. The pub itself has fairly traditional decor and furnishings and had a good vibe from the mix of locals and visitors, both eating and drinking. With the addition of the great staff the Elm Tree made for an excellent unplanned lunchtime.

My wife and I stayed one week at a cottage near the pub. On our first visit we were warmly welcomed by the friendly and attentive staff and enjoyed some great pub grub. Went back with friends on another occasion and had the same experience. It can get busy at times, but is a good place to enjoy a drink and soak up the local atmosphere while waiting. On our day of departure, our car was blocked by an inconsiderately parked vehicle. The landlady could not have been kinder in helping us to find out who was responsible when she had her own work to do. We really appreciated that. Will definitely aim to drop by again when the chance arises.

It's a village pub in the Dales. If you need to refuel, the calories are cheap to here. I just get so fed up with the kitchen so often not having this or that available from the menu. It's almost as if the kitchen management were utterly disorganised. The serving staff make the best of the situation and are charming.

We’ve been in a couple of times so far and had a warm welcome from the locals, who are really friendly and gave us some ideas for local walks. We seemed to think we had been forgotten about as other customers who came in after us were served before us, with the same meal. We then asked for the dessert menu which was brought promptly. When we went to order 2 minutes later we were advised straight away that both desserts were not available. When we first approached the village during the afternoon the pub was closed and looked quite sleepy so we were not sure what to expect. However we entered into a warm and friendly atmosphere and the place was alive with both drinkers and diners. There was quite an extensive menu and I chose the beef lasagne with chips and garlic bread whilst my husband had deep fried scampi and chips. Very friendly staff from the minute we walked in. Shown to our table and drinks brought to us. The real ales my companions had was first class. I had a refreshing Diet Coke. The waitress came and gave us menus with a good variety of food, plus shown a special board. We had trio of sausage, lasagna and chicken in a sauce to die for! All the food was cooked to perfection. All three dishes were large portions and prices normal pub prices. My companions managed desserts, which again was large portion sizes. After my chicken I could not manage any more, even if they had my favourite chocolate fudge cake!

Stumbled across this place whilst on a day out on the local steam train, the food was really really good, good prices and good sized portions, staff really friendly too. We live 20 miles away but have said we'll drive back again some weekends we enjoyed it that much, highly recommended.

Stayed in Embsay and called in to the Elm Tree Inn at 6pm 31st July for an evening meal, pleased we went early as lots of tables pre booked by locals and visitors. The Inn serves good quality pub food with good portions, their was plenty of choice on the menu & specials board. Can recommend the 10oz rib eye steak if available washed down by Timothy Taylors Golden Best. Although it was busy with people both eating & drinking the friendly staff were well organised and kept on top of ordering, serving & clearing tables. I would certainly eat there again if I was in the area.

The pub is located in a stunning setting in a beautiful village on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales. The drinks are very well priced and the main room was very comfortable with a traditional pub atmosphere. The hand-pulled beer was spot on and I treated myself to a second pint. Having been given printed menus on arrival, my partner and I selected main meals only to be told that our choices were not available. Odd that they didn't explain this before we started looking. We were hungry and selected alternative meals. My partner was reasonably happy with her sausages in Yorkshire Pudding meal but didn't finish it. My lasagne was distinctly average, with too much melted cheese and grizzly minced beef which I took to be low quality. This was served with chips and the worst garlic bread I have ever tasted. All in all we were disappointed and it's unlikely we'll return.

I met 'Alice' from Luther there. The staff are hilarious and really friendly. The food is okay. The beer is cheap.

Omg, what a fantastic place to stay. Trace, your staff and your locals thank you very much. The rooms are newly furnished en-suite nice size, comfy double bed, shower bang on. The food was beautiful (breakfast and Sunday dinner) and the beer was spot on. Me and my partner stayed for two nights, we was only gonna stay the one night however with the very warm welcome and fantastic people we decided to stay the extra night. Were so glad we stayed here and as soon as we can well be back again. See you soon Trace thank you again. :)

Have been here many times when visiting family. The service is always good, the beer excellent but the food on occasion misses the mark. Go for basic pub staples such as fish and chips, pies or sausages and avoid the burgers and stir frys. Had some of the best haddock I have ever eaten and the Mrs loved her meat and potato pie, the next night totally underwhelming lasagne and chicken burger.

We were staying in nearby Rockwood House (see separate review) and this pub was so handy for a Friday evening meal.Got a good table although a busy time and had fish pie and hunter's chicken. Fish pie was definitely above average - firm, not sloppy, and plenty of fish. Hunter's chicken fairly standard, but tasty and tender.Lovely atmosphere, obviously popular with locals, and very friendly staff.

Wouldn’t recommend booking Craven Heifer as it was cancelled 3 days before my visit. It had been booked for 8 weeks. Phoned up to be told renovation work going on. But had an email to say they had overbooked. Drove past and the pub was open with no sign of work going on. Very disappointing!!

We had a lovely couple of nights in this charming pub/hotel. Our room was comfy, spotlessly clean and warm. The food in the restaurant was excellent both breakfasts and dinners. The staff friendly and the place had a lovely cosy friendly feel. Would definitely return and recommend.
