Been to ellis tea rooms today food very good Unfortunately we asked for a pickle and cheeses sandwich but we're charged 75 pence for a teaspoon of pickle. On the menu they have add on such as cucumber tomatoe and onion all at 75 pence for one sandwich how can you charge 75 pence for a slice of tomatoe. Absolutely outrageous will not be going again .

Enjoyed our afternoon tea at the tearooms. We had pre booked as we’re using a gift voucher and also requesting the gluten free option for myself. The afternoon tea was very nice and staff attentive.

We ordered food at 9:45 after travelling over an hour we was hungry. After half an hour I asked where my food was as I hadn’t been informed there would be a wait. My food had been served to table 3 instead of 13 (meaning the ticket had not been read or written properly) after asking how long my food would be I had to *ask* for my food to be done again. The atmosphere seems relaxed, not all staff where aprons, there wear 4 people working the drinks machine and my food was taken to the wrong table. I am appalled.

Please update your menu online . it states Large breakfast - (2 bacon, 2 sausages, 2 eggs, beans, tomato, hash brown, slice of white or wholemeal toast) £6.50. in actual fact it is £9.50 . when I asked about the lack of a hash brown I got a abrupt answer saying we do not do hash browns.

I often visit this tea room for breakfast with my family on the weekends as it set in a lovely location of the Great Central Railway. The food is okay but a little over prised and basic. I visited yesterday, where I found the lady at the counter (assumed to me the manager that day) to be very rude. I asked a couple of simple questions, whereby the reply was muttered with her back intentionally towards me, as I didn’t hear her, I asked the question again, this time I got a sharp rude response. Completely, unnecessary and unacceptable.

Go there regularly for a latte and usually very pleased with the service and quality. Unfortunately today the latte was served in small cups. I mentioned it to a member of staff who said that there were no latte mugs left. The place was nearly empty, but even that is no excuse to have coffee served in a cup not much bigger than a teacup. Will go elsewhere if this practice keeps up.

A lovely place to pop into for a bite to eat. There are times when certain items aren't available, especially when they've been busy. Quaint building and full of character. Toilets are sometimes locked but a quick pop into the cafe and someone will pop out and unlock them. Its lovely to sit outside during the summer and watch the trains go by.

Was having a lovely day off work after a hectic week with my girlfriend and dog Decided to take the train from the heritage centre to rothley and have lunch at Ellis tearoom Sat outside and looked at the menu and decided on soup and a sandwich while my partner decided on a bacon and egg sandwich while she went to order the heavens opened so we asked if we could bring the dog inside because if we couldn’t of we’d of cancelled the order and eat elsewhere , the young girl we asked said this wasn’t a problem so we sat down inside the cafe opposite another couple with a dog The food arrived and we was enjoying our food when a male supervisor or manger came over and said we couldn’t eat inside as it was an open kitchen and we’d have to leave immediately, embarrassing us in front of everyone, when I questioned about the dog opposite , I was told it’s an assistance dog , but there was no evidence of it been a service dog Food was good , I’m a chef myself and can’t see how it is an open kitchen , really annoyed as we were made to leave with everyone staring at us like a leaper while the other couple with there dog enjoyed there food and afternoon while my whole relaxing day out had been destroyed by some jobs worth who favours locals , I’d of understood if I just walked in with the dog , but I went out of my way to get permission If you’d of asked my dog is a service dog for my partner regarding her mental health but people just assume because we’re younger we don’t need one Avoid

Luke warm large latte coffee with 25% froth on top instead of recommended 10 mm costing £3.30 was a complete ripoff. People bring their own hot water in a flask as the tea is only lukewarm as well. Suggest the cafe get a better thermometer. Despite requests to heat the coffee this was flatly refused as “it was against the cafe rules. Our walking group will not be returning there. We never have. a problem with any other cafe and suggest Ellis’s get their act together to sort this out!

My mum and I visited as part of a Virgin Experience Day which included an afternoon tea and a day of unlimited travel on the Great Central Railway for two. We arrived earlier than expected as heavy rain meant we couldn't spend as much time outdoors as planned but the staff were very accommodating and soon got our table ready. We were given a large pot of tea, a selection of freshly made ham, cheese and egg mayo sandwiches, warm home baked scones with jam and clotted cream and a variety of mini cakes, all beautifully presented on a cake stand and vintage china. As others have commented below, we couldn't manage it all so were able to take some home to enjoy later! We really enjoyed our time at the tea room, the staff were all very helpful and friendly and the station is delightful, as are all the stops on the GCR. Will definitely be back to try the all day cooked breakfasts! Thank you 💕

All the staff are extremely helpful and polite. The food is reasonably priced compared to a lot of tea rooms. The tea room is clean with a nice seating area. Love to see the trains running. Well done to Paul for the running of the model railway.

Usually a lovely breakfast but on our last visit, on the 25th June, it was awful. Looked like the vegetarian sausage and the hash browns had been deep fried so everything was ‘floating’ on a bed of fat. Very disappointed as at just under £18 for one regular and one veggie breakfast with a mug of tea and a coffee, the food is not cheap. Let’s hope the quality of cooking picks up.

We ate inside and the food and drinks were served in polystyrene throw away containers even the scones!!! not what you would expect in a tea room!!! we ordered sausage sandwich ( which came with butter on! we were not asked if we wanted butter!!! ) even the scone with jam and cream came in a plastic container with a lid.. myself and my husband were both ill afterwards with bad stomachs which started in the afternoon after eating the sausage sandwich!! this lasted for 2/3 days. we will not return here. The staff didn't even smile.

We had a group afternoon tea at Ellis's Tea Room, at Rothley Station on the GCR heritage railway line on Sunday 26th September, and it was amazing, there were 17 of us, and we had the tearoom extension as our 'party room', the food was absolutely delicious, there was plenty to drink, hot and cold drinks and the staff were lovely. A massive thank you to Tearoom Manager June Le Gallais and her team for all their hard work to make this an afternoon to remember. We will definitely be booking another group afternoon tea here soon!

What a fabulous place for afternoon tea. A cosy welcoming cafe with spacious outside seating close to the steam trains and beautiful Edwardian station. I cannot recommend this cafe enough for a very enjoyable afternoon tea, one of the best We have had. Unlike some afternoon tea’s you most certainly will not be going home hungry, sandwiches, sausage rolls, cakes and scones with cream all delicious. The staff were very friendly and attentive, no shortage of tea. For saying how busy they were service time was excellent.

The delightful tea room is nestled next to the main line station of the Great Central Railway. The food is always generous and scrumptious, and not expensive. There is plenty of room for dining outside in good weather, it has a large car park and a delightful miniature railway which runs at weekends. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Afternoon tea is fabulous.

These tea rooms are by a large car park and at the side of the Great Central Railway at Rothley. Entrance is by steps or a slightly longer ramp. It is a popular place as most of the tables had people at them. We had very nice lattes. My husband had a sausage roll and I had a bacon sandwich both of which were very tasty. We were able to park very near which was good for my husband with walking difficulties. The only downside for us was that the toilet was around the back which was too far for him to walk. But that did not detract from a lovely visit and we will certainly will visit again.

Found this cafe quite by chance and it's lovely. Clean and bright and very good food. Jacket spud cooked to perfection. Scampi and fries had loads on the plate. Service with loads of smiles and laughs. Will definitely come back again when shopping in Loughborough.

A group of us booked for lunch and ordered in advance. The staff were very pleasant and helpful , service was good as was the food with a choice of portion size for some dishes. My meal was missing peas but this was quickly rectified. The cakes looked delicate and tyere was one desert and ice-cream om offer yoo. The tea rooms are warm which was good as the weather outside was awful. There is outside seating for good weather days. There are a few charity shops on site and walks in the grounds, weather permitting and a model railway open on Wednesdays and Fridays. Definitely worth a visit.

Have eaten here a few times over the years. Always very friendly service. Food has always been good value with good portion size too. Could be improved with menus on tables instead of having to look at the boards behind the counter to choose what to eat.

Possibly the best latte I have had in Leicestershire (up to this date of course), I don't know how they do it...especially as I'm borderline addicted to the things If you get a chance try the vanilla latte and let it cool slightly. Worth every penny. The foods decent as well and the premises is very quirky but unique.
