Stopped in for lunch while visiting Lincoln. Gem of a place with absolutely perfect fish and chips and really friendly, professional staff. Some of the best chips I've had.

We’ll be going back to Elite On The Bail as soon as the chance arises. The food and the service were THAT good. But it does come at a price. Ironically, it wasn’t as cheap as chips. We ordered : -Regular Cod & Chips with Peas and Curry Sauce. -Large Cod & Chips with Peas and Curry Sauce. -Frickles - Battered Pickles. -A Coke and a Lemonade. and it came to just under £45. For Fish & Chips. We know what you’re thinking. That’s an absurd amount to pay for Fish & Chips ( and frickles and drinks) but until you try Elite’s srcan, you won’t understand why it’s priced so high. It’s phenomenal. The fish were massive, even the regular one. They were both chunky pieces of fish that tasted fresher and lighter than most other chippies we’ve been to. The chips were delicious too. Would we have wanted a few more? Probably not. There seemed to be just the right amount. The curry and peas were standard chip shop curry and peas, but we did seem to get a good amount of both. On to the Frickles and these were right up our street. £3.25 for 10 decent-sized chunks of Pickle coated in batter with a sauce is great value in our opinion. ( They’re even cheaper if you’re getting takeaway) Overall, for Fish & Chips, we do think it was teetering on the expensive side, but you do get what you pay for. We were looked after well by the staff and the food was exceptional. Elite are in an area of the city where rent is at a premium, so the price of goods is going to reflect that. Best Chippy in Lincoln? It’s definitely in the conversation!

I understand some of the comments about time, but the 2 young ladies who served us did a sterling job. Drinks came as soon as they were available to serve us and the food came out piping hot. As always they were happy to accommodate our grandsons weird request, poached fish, no batter and new potatoes, my wife and I have the usual regular haddock and chips and the other 2 grandsons had off the kids menu. Considering it was steampunk weekend, bank holiday Monday and only 2 staff on it was excellent as always.

Came to Lincoln on a coach trip for a day at the market. We really were not sure what we wanted to eat when we stumbled on this restaurant. Looked at the Christmas market special and thought it sounded good. My husband had the roast red pepper soup and I had the smoked salmon. Both were lovely, for our mains we both had the fish and chips which came with mushy peas. Proportion size was perfect and the mushy peas were how mushy peas should be. We shared a bottle of white wine ( rude not to ) and very nice it was too. The restaurant was busy but we found the service very good. Where we were seated we also felt very comfortable amongst the times we are living in. Really would recommend and would definitely come back.

Visited this restaurant when it first opened and it was excellent. Have returned on two occasions recently and disappointment has set in. The last time the menu seems to have been reduced and the whitebait I had were overcooked and dark brown accompanied by no more than a small spoonful of tartare sauce. The time before it was the chips that were undercooked . And, on both occasions the service has been glacially slow. I would have like to have tasted the oysters but at £2.50 each (!) i.e. £30.00 a dozen this does seem an exorbitant price (As against £8.50 a dozen down the road at Waitrose). Lincoln needs a high quality Sea Food Restaurant and originally I thought this was going to be it. Unfortunately it isn't !!!!

Visited the Elite on the Bail for the first time on Saturday evening. We ordered a regular cod and chips and a large haddock and chips. Unfortunately the chips on both plates were not hot but warm and the large haddock was more akin to a regular portion. We frequently visit your Sleaford and Tritton road restraunts and find them both consistently excellent. That aside your service was great and your decor and ambience made it a very nice place to visit. We will visit again at some point and hope that you will delight us.

Lovely meal. The oysters were exceptional. Service was very good. If I have one criticism it’s the air con.. which is why I have only scored it a 4. Too cold by far. We would have stayed for pudding but was getting uncomfortable so had to go elsewhere for that. Next time visit we will bring warm jumpers.

Pros:- It is in beautiful historic part of the city. The decor is very pleasant. No loud invasive music. The staff are helpful and friendly. The fish cooked to perfection. Reasonable room between tables. Cons:- It is rather pricey for this area (£14.00 for Fish and Chips, £2.30 for bread and butter). They have not yet got the chip frying quite right - a bit under cooked. Will I go again? - perhaps.

Needed a good restaurant in up hill Lincoln on a cold and windy half term Friday for 5 adults and 3 children. As long standing customers of the Ruskington elite we decided to try the new bailgate elite. Despite it being very busy we were greeted cheerfully and given a perfect table upstairs. Service was prompt and friendly. The food was what we had come to expect from this company, tasty and well cooked, and the views of castle and cathedral added to the experience.

We have being visiting this cafe for over 15 years and always enjoyed visisting with family. The team in the yellow uniforms were always friendly and the prices VERY resonable. We enjoyed Xmas luches here and have great memories playing crazy / mini golf. Visited today hoping to enyoy cake and a latte, but noticed new owners have taken over. Sadly not a patch on previous set up and sorry to say the wonerful home made baking was replaced with uninspiring offerings. Latte was the worsed i have had in many years, can only be described it as white coffee, the owner was unimpressed and rude with me asking for a replacement. Will not be returning.

Gluten free review for the cafe: I visited the Druid’s Temple today and went to the cafe for lunch afterwards. Gluten free cakes and sandwiches were available. I had an ultimate hot chocolate and a trout and cream cheese sandwich (GF bread), and I’m sad to say that neither were very flavourful. The hot chocolate was weak and watery, and the sandwich was very dry. It’s a shame because the setting is so beautiful! A word to cross contamination, I have reacted to the food that I had, so I suspect that the chopping board used for my sandwich may not have been cleaned down before preparing my food (or similar). There was also a gluten free chocolate brownie which was in the same cabinet next to gluten containing cakes, with tongs that customers could use to select their own cakes, but no separate gluten free pair. If anyone from the cafe happens to read this, from coeliacs and gluten free people everywhere please could you make sure that cross contamination risk is limited through simple measures such as cleaning down a surface before making gluten free food (we don’t mind waiting a bit longer for piece of mind!), and that GF cakes and sweet treats are kept separate and using separate tongs etc? When we find places that don’t gluten us we share it heavily in the community!

I do not usually write reviews but I feel as though I have to after what I witnessed last night 28/11. After waiting 20-25 minutes for my food, I saw the fryer shouting at the gentleman on the Till area. I asked the young man if he was okay and I could tell he was getting upset. The chef was repeatedly shouting at him and telling him to go home and storming off and swearing at him whilst the gentleman did not respond and seemed to get upset. The worst part was that it was quite busy and the man on the till was obviously trying his hardest whilst the other gentleman working was seemingly walking around aimlessly, not helping, and doing nothing. I am disgusted by this, surely in this day and age abuse towards young staff should not be happening? After reading other reviews, I have seen that this is not the first time this has happened with the same Chef. Surely management has picked up on this? I was going to give the chef a piece of my mind but was concerned that it would only result in him shouting at the young gentleman further. I will not be returning when this man is working And I am advising friend and family to do the same.

Stayed here on our way home to the West Country we stay almost every year. And this year was just as good as previous years. This year we stayed in house opposite the room I believe was called Braxton? It had a shower over the bath and a nice sized bathroom. The bed was huge and very comfortable, there ware extra pillows/blankets etc in a wardrobe if needed. There was kettle and cafetière with coffee bags. The breakfast the next morning was all cooked to order and great poached eggs. I would highly recommend this hotel and will be staying there again next year. :-)))))

Having visited the Tontine several times in the recent past, we looked forward to a nice Sunday lunch as a family. The visit was marred by underwhelming customer service, requests for water took several attempts before being served, the staff seemed uncommitted to delivering much of a service, and the food , frankly was at best average.I’m afraid that in view of the negative impression we had, it will be some time before we return, there are so many good local places to eat, it really is a disappointment to have to be so negative, must try harder would be my advice.
