Ego at The Bull's Head, Horbury in Wakefield

First time we have been to the Bulls head weve usually gone to the ego in Shadwell, but this resto was lovely inside we were. attended to quickly shown our booked table and we enjoyed the steak med rare and dessert we were looking forward to a cofee but the machine had stopped working! Although we were offered another type of coffee. But declined.All in all a great place for our meal we will go again! Hope the coffee machine is working then Our Jack Russell sat nicely! Staff offered water for him.but we chose not to have any.

We absolutely love eating here as a family. I have been for various meals and also had the afternoon tea and the food is always amazing! I love how the restaurant looks inside too it has a really nice feel to it. I also think it’s great that they have a small dog friendly area.

We were celebrating my wife's birthday. The meal, service and atmosphere were brilliant we had an amazing evening and can't wait to return.

Had a great meal here last evening. Nat our server was lovely, being friendly and helpful without being intrusive. There is plenty of choice on the menu and the food was well cooked, well presented and very tasty (chef Alan). Will definitely be returning.

Failed to serve dairy free despite booking info and request to staff

Slow service, very disappointing as used to be great. Been here multiple times over the last couple of months, both busy and quiet and the service is now very slow, regardless that they told me it was becuase they were busy when I asked where the food was. Not good enough, the need to put more staff on if this is the case!

This place has gone rapidly down hill recently. Very Slow service, measly children's portions. Basically told 'tuff, were busy' after waiting nearly 2 hours for the mains and asking where the food is. Some food just sits on the side under a heat lamp for upto 30 mins before it's served so it can come out together. I've spent hundreds here over the years but won't be visiting again, not unless it improves anyway.

Been here several times over the years but this time was for a celebration meal with 20 family and friends following ur daughters confirmation. The whole meal was fantastic from pre orders to paying the bill everything ran smoothly. Kirsty was a very good host and took time to look after everyone so well and the rest of the staff were welcoming and friendly . Can't wait to visit again .

We enjoyed a delightful meal here on Wednesday night, taking advantage of the excellent 2-course deal for two at £30. Nahum, our waiter, was an exceptional host.

It’s been a bit hit and miss recently here. But most recently the food was lovely. The Wednesday dine 2 for £30 menu was lovely. The only thing that is really letting this place down is the state of the toilets. They are really not clean and in desperate need of a lick of paint and maintenance. I’ve noticed this a few times recently and it hasn’t improved unfortunately. I think the atmosphere is a bit flat, due to customers being sat all over the restaurant and when it’s quiet, it lack buzz.

Just arrived on spec for a drink and one course. No problem and was kept informed by our friendly waiter, Nahum, of a wait for the meal we had chosen. Worth it though as well presented and tasty.

I booked in last night for 5 and had a lovely warm welcome by Kirsty. Kirsty was very warm and welcoming. Service and food was extremely good and will definitely be booking again for the Xmas dinner. Thank you 😊

Impressive very up market restaurant with lovely food and drink. We enjoyed our time here. The only thing that was slightly disappointing was they allow dogs into the restaurant. I don’t think this is fair on customers who aren’t fond of dogs or want to enjoy a meal without worrying about dogs running round their feet. Don’t think it’s very sanitary but seems it’s the norm nowadays. 👌🏽

The food was decent. But we waited a long time to get seated, to be served and for food to arrive. The staff were friendly, but they were slow.

We visited Ego’s for my sister’s engagement party whilst the food was good the service was not at all. “Service with a smile” well that was quite the opposite on this occasion very moody staff members telling customers “I want to go home”. We didn’t let this ruin our night but we will not be returning due to the poor customer service.

On arrival we're told they are really busy but only four tables were occupied. Massive wait to order drinks, massive wait to order food, a good twenty minutes to order dessert and another fifteen minutes stood around to pay the bill. Food was average and another customer was complaining loudly about his steak saying it was crappie. The menu never changes and its a struggle to decide what to eat because you've had most of it before and the menu is just so limited and 'same old' 'same old' so you're never truly happy with your choice. Going to have to leave this place alone for a while.

Absolutely outstanding service. My husband and I have been coming for years now and it has been 5 stars every time. Food is incredible every time and the service is always outstanding. We have had a variety of items off the menu, with our favourites being the pizza, kebabs and chicken Milanese. Thank you for always providing a lovely experience!

Had a family meal for our sons 18th, all 31 of us. Could not rate them highly enough, they couldn't do anymore for our requests before and on the night, the food was excellent and the service outstanding. They took the stress out of a night that we just wanted to enjoy and make memorable. Thank you for everything you did.

Went for a birthday lunch and had lamb. This was really fatty and inedible. I mentioned it to the server and was told he'd tell the chef. The staff were OK but inexperienced. Wouldn't hurry back which is a shame as it used to be good.

Super service at Ego at the Bull for my daughter's birthday. Staff were super and extremely attentive. The food was superb! Always a wide variety of choice and the seating and atmosphere was wonderful. I will be visiting again for sure.

We held my Mum’s 90th birthday celebration at Ego yesterday Everything was excellent, food was really good and service was perfect, nothing was a problem Ego is excellent for coeliacs too, both mum and me have coeliac disease and are always well looked after at Ego

It costs a lot to eat out these days and with disappointing regularity I'm left dissatisfied by low standard food, measly portions, lack of flavour and fresh ingredients. Not today! I had the sweetcorn fritters (17.95 for a main) with carrot salad and my goodness it was absolutely delicious. The best meal out I've had in years. Creative, interesting flavours, fresh and not just an afterthought for the vegetarians. Can't wait to come back

Having received a promotional voucher we decided to try lunch. Our server, Gina, was attentive, friendly and efficient. The food was good, I only said 4 stars rather than 5 as my companion said her poached egg (with the salmon fish cake starter) was cold and her main (carbonara) only tasted better after the addition of Parmesan. My own main, chicken and chorizo paella was really tasty. I enjoyed it very much. I will definitely return.

Loved the Sunday roast. We had the 2 courses, my husband enjoyed his garlic mushrooms as I did my lemon tart, which was very lemony! The service was very good, the waitresses were very polite and attentive. We will be back, this time with the family.

Food took a while to come / order, great value for money though! Was tasty and good variety on menu. Service was good just took a while for us to order. Would prefer some music in background in restaurant as it wasn’t that busy and silent at some times.

The food was really nice, very tasty and well presented. The seating was good and spacious, near the window. It was a bit slow, main course arrived about an hour after we sat down.

We got married in August at the Town Hall in Wakefield, with only immediate family and close friends. We chose to have afternoon tea and charcuterie sharing boards at Ego in their small function room and it was brilliant! We'd been let down by our previous venue so were anxious, but Caroline put us immediately at ease, and met with us twice to go through menu options and seating arrangements. Caroline and her team put out our favours and name cards, and catered to some very picky eaters (and those with allergies/intolerances) with great care and attention to detail. The food was brilliant, really beautiful, and having the side room to ourselves meant we all felt comfortable. It was a very good price per head, and the afternoon tea sandwiches and cakes were made with our requested fillings (off menu) without fuss. I'd highly recommend any function here, leave it in the hands of Caroline and her team and a brilliant chef and you'll have a great time!

Went today with my daughter for Sunday dinner and would like to say thank you to Sue our server who was really attentive and friendly. I had the lamb with a side of cauliflower cheese, delicious. Yorkshire pudding was homemade and amazing. Always enjoy coming here for lunch or dinner.

Beautiful food (as always), good atmosphere and service from our waiter Nahum was excellent he was so nice, friendly and looked after us very well. My family and I have eaten here many times and we all agree that we’ve always enjoyed the food.

My friends mum visited here today with a party of elderly people. They all had to pay £5 deposit prior to the visit. 2 pensioners were unable to make it due to illness, but the deposits were not refunded & a tip was still expected! None of them will be visiting this establishment again.

First time trying out tonight what a fabulous night, outstanding food, Fabulous setting, chloe was a fab hostess and the chef Alan outdid himself, amazing night and highly recommended.

Eight of us went for dinner here. Several of the guests were disappointed with their meal. . My husband's steak was like dried duck breast. It didn't even look or taste like steak. My steak was nice. I ordered it very well done and it was. Another person's meal had muscles in it but the muscles were actually dry. Very disappointing. Not in a hurry up return.

Me and my friend went for a meal on Friday. Our server Emily was amazing and tended to our every need. I had a mixed paella made by chef Kasia which was gorgeous and my friend had the chicken supreme. Excellent experience and we will definitely be coming back!

Over the past few weeks (years even) I have visited many restaurants enjoying pleasant Sunday lunches . Today was a restaurant Ego my friends and I will never visit again. The chicken in my starter was raw ! I told the waitress but had no response . The main meals arrived ,mainly the simple roast dinners .( so easy to make en mass ) The so called roast potatoes were white ,covered in green herb ,perhaps to disguise their lack of colour ,taste and soggy texture . The vegetables were soggy ,tasteless and lukewarm warm. The extra cauliflower cheese we ordered and had to pay for was any thing but cauliflower cheese . Even the fresh bowl brought in exchange was no better . I cannot believe they could present this dish on any menu and think that it would be acceptable . The beef was rather tough but not inedible . The only redeeming feature was the Yorkshire pudding. The green beans which were ordered alongside the gluten free meal came as the meal was being finished ! We ordered coffee which we explicitly said we wanted at the same time as the dessert . Did it arrive ? No it came afterwards once the dessert had been eaten. To add insult to injury we were given a paltry £30 discount by a very disgruntled young lady ,who if she was front of house needs to change her attitude towards customers . That’s five pounds each compensation for raw chicken, cold ,soggy,tasteless inedible vegetables and poor service . Much of our dinner was left on our plate.Not one of us ate a full plate of food and we all have very healthy appetites . There are many excellent restaurants/pubs in the vicinity offering much higher standard of food and service .

We visited Ego Horbury for the 1st time in months hoping things had improved. We went to the bar to order some drinks and was served by a delightful young lady. We had drinks and went to our table . We noticed how quiet it was for a Sunday at 6pm We ordered our food and a bottle of wine . The waitress brought our wine asked if it was the right bottle and plonked it on the table unopened and trotted off !!! Unbelievably bad service. The food was very average and overpriced. Won't be going back

Food was good staff great came to payment partly with a voucher from dear friends of ours for our40th wedding anniversary and it wasn’t accepted by the till so embarrassing ,we had to ring our friends who purchased the voucher to confirm they had purchased said voucher by screenshot they confirmed the payment had this not been in place I would have had to pay the full amount.what is the point of the voucher if it doesn’t work this was embarrassing not just for me and my wife but also our friends who bought the voucher in good faith

Service terrible, waited a long time to be greeted, eventually shown to a table. Waited a long time for our drinks order to be taken, waited even longer for the drinks to arrive. Food was nice but coukd have been hotter. There was a table of about 12 people who were very loud and one of them was vaping at the table and no one came to ask them not to, which i found unbelievable. 🙄 Didn't charge us right for our cocktails, so paid £5.00 more than we should as there is an offer on Sundays .....didnt realise until we got home. Our first visit but very dissapointing, would not recommend.

The service was ok but would have been better if one waiter was allocated to us instead of 6?? The starter was small and not very good quality. Roast dinner cold and strange assortment of veg? Why isn't cauliflower cheese included? Best bit was dessert however small servings. There were kids running around swearing!! Staff should have asked parents to look after them. Won't be returning...certainly won't be having my party there!!!

Dined for the 1st time last night since refurbishment and change over, was pleasently surprised on arrival. Love the new layout and decoration, the staff although young were attentive and welcoming. The food was exceptionally good value for money, really enjoyed the vast choice menu. Especially the offer at the moment, with 2 courses and bottle of house wine. The Manager Caroline was very subtle in her manor, organising the staff with empathy and organisation. Will definitely return and soon!!!!!

went here on Sunday for my sons birthday, 5 adults 1 baby and a3yr old. very welcoming, starters for two adults and 1 child's meal arrived, we then waited over an hour for our meal, we were seated in a position that all staff could see us.large table served before us, all staff serving that table, manager recognised we had been waiting and offered discount. also offered bread and olives while we waited but it took so long for this to come out of kitchen that our main meals arrived at same time so we didn't eat the bread and olives. we were then offered the sweet menu and ordered from this, again the large table was served by all staff and we were ignored, a table for two, who arrived long after we sat down were given their dessert before us, two tables opposite had had their meals and left before we had our mains....we then told them that if we wasn't served immediately then we would walk out. still waiting...no desserts so we went to till to pay and had to wait to do that........we were there 3 and a half hours and only got 2 starters and our mains, which was bland and dry...will never go again.......definitely never recommend.......having spent hours waiting and trying to entertain 2 toddlers....VERY disappointed... .....

Wow what a lovely birthday treat. This was a great surprise & mine was absolutely free. We had a three course meal & because it was my birthday we only paid for hubby's. The food was delicious we were so full at the end .we will definitely be visiting again soon

Very little choice drinks wise and I always get the feeling that its a place that thinks its better than it actually is.
