A pub that we have frequented on many occasions with the most recent being a big birthday celebration! As a group of 10 we sat down in the normal restuarant area. 7pm on a Saturday evening just our table and one other table with 3 people on (it remained this quiet for the rest of the night, mmm I wonder why). Food was OK (at an average price of £16.50 and so it should be). However two people had the steak salad, too much salad and the steak was very chewy. Beer was nice (again why should it not be for the price), welcome again was what you would expect. A friend went to the pub earlier to place a balloon up and a table runner (again expected given the amount of money we were going to be spending). As customers at this point nothing special but nothing to complain about. On the bill arriving, the night's experience becomes one which I (we) can only describe as nothing short of unbelievable. We split the bill between couples and there was an outstanding amount at the end. This amount turned out to be a service charge (something that wasn't on during previous group visits) so it resulted in us not reading the menu before booking the table (why would you). This is a review to help other customers make an informed choice where to spend their money not about personal views on tips and service charge. Moving on, when we challenged the situation we, as customers were faced with 2 hostile managers currently running the 'show'. (Note the staff waiting on did their job and Abi was good). The way we were spoken to and the way they (the managers) handled the whole situation was unforgivable, zero communication skills and zero customer service (I could go on but I wont). So to finish this review off and to help others. If you want to spend your hard earned money in a pub that delivers what you expect, with a sense of entitlement and not be made to feel valued then try the Egerton Arms! We have all said none of us will ever spend another penny in the place whilst 'those 2' are in charge. Oh, and one final quote that may help you put this review in context. As a group of 10 we spent close to £300 in a couple of hours. Whilst being challenged, the male manager turned round and challenged us, the customer(s). 'This is the problem with large tables we don't make any money on bringing the cake out and the decorations'. I end this review in the way I started it ...... wow! When have tips become an 'entitlement'. Shame on the staff being put in the middle of the situation.

Had lunch here today with a large party of friends. We had pre ordered our meals and paid deposits. Have not been to the Egerton for many years. Staff were all lovely, efficient and welcoming. The pub, (interior and exterior), is gorgeous. Very disappointed with my meal. I had the chicken supreme which stated on the menu that it came with mash, buttered greens and a mustard and pancetta sauce. The chicken was tough, the mash had huge lumps in it, sauce was very bland and just tasted of cream, the 'buttered greens' consisted of peas, green beans that looked tinned and mange tout which were raw, stringy and inedible. It came served in a bowl all slopped together. I don't like peas or green beans, however, it was impossible to remove them as they seeped into the mash and sauce. I had expected buttered greens to be possibly kale or broccoli? Really disappointed. Maybe I just made the wrong choice, however, others in our party did not like the chips and the very small portion of soup. To be fair, my meal was refunded in full and my complaint was dealt with professionally and swiftly. Would I eat here again? Yes, I would because the location and the pub itself are beautiful, staff are great. Would just choose a different main meal.

Went here for our get together before Christmas meal & was a bit disappointing. We always try to go somewhere new each year & like to support local non chain businesses but the ambiance was a bit of a let down as was the service. We were put in the back room where there was only one other table occupied. Okay we went with that but for a date so close to Christmas it did ring alarm bells that it wasn’t very busy. My friend has medical issues & cannot eat a large amount of food so we asked if she could have a children’s portion of the Christmas dinner that was offered to be told “No I’m sorry we can’t do that as the chef will come & check that you are a child” this is actually the bizarrest thing I’ve ever been told!!! Not very accommodating 😥 The food was actually quite nice not amazing but adequate. I would not return here though as there was absolutely NO deviation from the menu regardless of your personal circumstances. Not good customer service at all. Very disappointed. In the current climate of pubs not being able to survive you would think they would be a bit more flexible on their approach to customer requests. Shame they weren’t as won’t recommend & won’t go back.

Spent a night at the The Egerton Arms. It was a great place for a stay if you are in this part of Cheshire. The rooms were very clean and the beds comfortable. We have a great nights sleep. The breakfast was very good and plentiful with lots of choice. The bar area and the staff were friendly. One small criticism was the food at dinner. My partner had the Polpette al sugo, I had the chicken liver paté as a starter: we enjoyed them both. We both had pappardelle and this was not as good as I expected. The pasta was stuck together in large clumps. I excpected better, especially as the propietor is a lovely Italian lady. Nevertheless, as I said it is a small criticism. Overall we had a lovely stay in a really nice country pub. Would we stay again? Yes, definately.

Popped in for a drink on our way past. After driving past it many times and saying we would pop in for a drink. We weren't disappointed. A lovely cosy pub. Nice friendly staff. We only had a drink however the food that was coming out the kitchen looked yummy so we will be back to try it soon.

I took my friend to her local pub for lunch in celebration of her big birthday the day before. Her menu choice was unavailable so she chose a pizza with prosciutto instead. Unfortunately the prosciutto was excessively salty and despite being hungry she found it virtually inedible. Having forced down a quarter to a third of the pizza she had to leave the rest. She told the waitress who had a word with the chef then came back to say prosciutto is salty therefore they couldn’t do anything about it. I had tasted it too and it was far too salty to eat. She pointed out that she often ate prosciutto but had never had any so salty that she couldn’t eat it - she couldn’t even eat the pizza base as this had also been made very salty from the prosciutto above. My fish and chips were ok - nice chips and the fish inside the batter was good although the batter itself was less pleasant. I heard no acknowledgment from the waitress that my friend was so disappointed with her meal and there was no gesture of goodwill from the staff. All in all a poor dining experience and poor birthday celebration for my friend. I don’t want to eat at the Egerton Arms again.

Coming home from Trafford centre and called in for a spur of the moment bite to eat. Have found us a table,but to be fare it didn’t seem to full. We ordered drink and were given a menu,two of us had the steak and ale pie and the wife had the fish. The food came and it was delicious,full of steak and home cut chips,yummy.after enjoying the mains we decided to have a dessert,two chocolate brownies with ice cream and a cheese board which were all fine. If I had to pick on anything the service was a touch slow. But nice one Edgerton arms

Ate here whilst staying over for a while during our attempt at The Cheshire Gritstone trail. Food was great - liked the Italian focus. Beers ere great and there is an interesting selection of Islay whiskey in which we indulged rather too freely. Would certainly recommend.

We spent the weekend in the hotel rooms upstairs and had a couple meals at the pub. The room was very nice, with comfortable beds. The wifi was great, and the room is well soundproofed; we never heard noise from the pub. Both meals we had at the restaurant were fantastic. I would definitely stay and eat here again. The British/Italian couple running the place were very friendly and helpful.

Recommended. Last minute visit, yes they could fit us in. Delicious steak pie and chips for two of us, vegetable cassoulet for my mum with what she said was the nicest red cabbage she'd ever had! Will definitely return, but please have the fire lit! Makes such a diffto the ambience on a cold November night.

For a variety of reasons I have been unable to visit the Egerton for nearly four years. Today was my happy return. Two neighbours joined me for Sunday lunch. Our friendly welcome was immediately followed by being conducted to our table. No waiting despite the fact that the restaurant was extremely busy. The menu is varied and should be enticing to most palates but, as it was Sunday, we chose the roast, available as large or small meals. Lamb, beef or pork with the usual trimmings appealed to my guests. The food (two lamb and one pork) was excellent and the portions generous. All the plates were emptied with gusto but left no room for a pud. Lesson learned for future visits. Ben and Zandra served us well, making the visit that much more pleasant and I must extend my thanks to all the team. Norma A Dean.

Lovely clean and updated decor. Lovely attentive staff. We were 3 generations including a 6 year old. We had chicken gougons (child) and steak ciabatta and all the food was hot and delicious! We didn’t have to wait long for any of the service. Reasonably priced. We’ll be back.

Very disappointing. We pre-booked a table for 4 for dinner in the restauraunt and the table we were given was coverd in cumbs and was very sticky. We were given a table on our own stuck in a very cramped space between a wall and the side of the bar, despite the pub being quiet. The service was very mixed, one lady was excellent but the other waitress really rushed us, for example asking for a drink order before we had even sat down, and then walking away when we pointed out that some of our party were still standing up. We were quite surprised that they were out-of-stock of beefburgers! We ordered a wide variety of food, most of which was way over-cooked and none of it was really appetising.

Having been on walk we came across Edgerton Arms and decided to have as spot of lunch. A bit confused at the ordering process as usually the bar serves drinks and takes the food order. In this case for food I was referred to reception which to me was for accommodation. Having sorted this reception then said would come outside to take our order, which she did, came back with card slip to ensure correct food, three journeys seemed a cumbersome process. On viewing the menu, quite extensive and reasonably priced, we decided on sandwiches which came fairly quickly. Food was of good quality. Would recommend and return if in the area again.

4 previous visits all rated 5*. The menu is very impressive and may deliver a 5* experience usually. We have previously enjoyed a 5* ham/salad sandwich and chips (absolutely outstanding) simply, yes, but outstanding. We wanted the same again but not available so we had something similar - prawn & Crawfish open sandwich which was completely tasteless. I had a chat with Chandra (owner) and hopefully it will be better.

Haven't been here in years. We called in for an adult family lunch. The restaurant and surroundings were lovely and the staff were friendly and helpful. The food was average and could have been warmer.

I haven’t been for many a year (and probably several owners later), but I called in for lunch with family. It wasn’t too busy initially but soon filled up. The room/alcove we sat in had a table too many; it felt like I was eating from my lap. Menu wise, it was very Italian leaning, which threw me, with standard pub dishes supplementing it. The food was ok; nothing outstanding. The service was adequate also. Despite being advised to visit, I can’t say I’d rush to go back.

This restaurant was remarkably good value, with really well prepared and cooked food, friendly, attentive service and well kept beers. What a refreshing change to find somewhere this good when everywhere else just seems to be getting prohibitively expensive. We look forward to the next time we can eat there. Well priced accommodation as well.

Stayed here for a night along with some friends. Our room was well equipped, spotlessly clean and with comfortable beds. The five of us had an evening meal which we all enjoyed and the breakfast was excellent. The hosts were pleasant and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Will stay again if in the area.

Booked a table to meet up with daughter and family for a surprise birthday meal, could not fault the service, the food or the attention we received. Having enjoyed their Sunday Roast dinner delivery service during lockdown, It was time to visit in person as we had promised and we were not disappointed. We were made to feel very safe and welcomed in to the new COVID clean environment. Fabulous meal this evening, our food was delicious and we felt very safe eating out, given current circumstances. The staff are very welcoming and helpful. Our food was really well cooked and piping hot, with generous portions, just a shame we had no room for desserts! We will be back for those next time!

We had a large family booking here to celebrate a birthday. From the off the staff were so lovely and friendly! There were hand sanitizer stations dotted around that I had noticed, as well as signs on tables to indicate which ones had been clean and ready to sit at. For us though, we had pre-booked so they had set up an area for us, which was well spaced out. There was a good variety of options on the menu (a lot of places are using smaller menus at the minute which is understandable.) If anything there could have been more choice for the kids menu, but our two were happy enough! The food was delicious -everyone enjoyed their meals and commented on how nice it was. Big portions too! Our waiter was very tentative and polite (as well as the other staff.) In fact, we had taken a birthday cake and the barman said he would bring it out before ordering dessert, just in case people just wanted a slice of the cake instead of dessert - we thought that was really nice of them to do! (We did in fact order dessert-those of us who had room to anyway!) Not to forget the fact all the staff came out to sing happy birthday! We thought that was really lovely of them, not something I’ve seen often.Overall it was just a really lovely atmosphere, making us feel very welcomed. We will definitely be going back again and would recommend this place to others.

Under the current circumstances, we had a lovely meal on sat 29th Aug 2020 As I cook for a living I am always reluctant to order pie when I eat out, I have to say the steak and ale pie was excellent the pastry was nice and crisp not soggy, the meat was very tender and I could really taste the ale in the gravy highly recomend to eat here the service was also very good nothing to much trouble, everything is also home made and not frozen zing and ping definatley will be back

Most excellent Sunday roast to takeaway, ready on time and delicious we all enjoyed it and will be trying it again soon.

26/04/2020 My wife’s and I 45th anniversary. Not able to dine out because of the caronavirus so we chose Edgerton arms Sunday roast takeaway. We had also got lunches for our Daughter, Son in law and lovely grandson. Can we give you a huge thank you for a absolutely lovely meal. The portions we’re very good and plenty of ingredients. Thanks for helping us to celebrate our anniversary. All the best Derek Barbara and family.

admitedly we visited on a very busy day right in the middle of a wake but we were the second table to order out of 3 but 35 minutes later the whole pub was eating so I had to ask after our food only to be told they were in the process of cooking it , shocking service ,lovely food but we had gone passed being hungry by then. never been before and wouldnt o back .

If you’re after a good pub which serves a decent pint, good food along with good service then the Egerton Arms is worth a visit.

Just met friends for a meal at this country inn. The meals were excellent as was the service.Novel friendly atmosphere. We all had a different meal from the menu and we all enjoyed everything. The sweet I had was crumble of the day.it was fantastic. We will certainly be going again.

Went for Sunday lunch with three adults and one child, service was great and food hot and delicious. Each of us had a Sunday roast and the child had a childrens meal and all of us had a pudding. We all commented how lovely it was , don't understand why there are alot of negative reviews. Definitely would go again.

First visit for me and my eleven companions. Our early Christmas "do" and chosen on a recommendation.The ambience, service, and quality of the food are, collectively, of a quality which is excellent. It was a pleasant change in an era when standards of catering appear to be on a decline.The friendly attitude of the "boss" and his son are a credit to them and a good lesson for others in the catering industry.It is easy to recommend a visit to the Egerton at your earliest date.Norman Dean

We arrived at the same time as a local funeral wake (100 people), but we were taken straight to our room and made welcome. For dinner we were placed in a quieter part of the restaurant and had an excellently cooked meal. Staff very friendly and service was excellent. Stairs a bit steep for our dodgy knees, but the room was clean and comfortable. On return after the wedding, even though the restaurant was busy, we were given a table where we had another excellently cooked meal (we did not have much to eat at the wedding!)

A group of friends met up for a meal and a bit of karaoke, a lovely lively evening. I chose chicken schnitzel served with potatoes and cabbage, all absolutely delicious followed by apple crumble and custard. Divine! Friendly service , excellent hospitality all round.

We ordered off the breakfast menu which clearly states that "all the above meals include a cup of tea or coffee". However when the bill came we were told that this did not apply and we had to pay extra for tea and coffee. When we queried this we were told that this was not able to be changed. It cannot be right to have a menu which is clearly misleading

Had fantastic food last night, could not fault it in any way. Tapas was good and my husband’s pork chop he said was delicious. Service was very good, so all round a winner.

Sat inside and had an egerton burger. It arrived quickly and tasted great for the price. Staff were friendly and pints were cold. What more can you want?

Sat outside in the garden, it had lovely painted benches throughout and a large number of tables to sit at, and it was all dog friendly! We ordered 3 main courses inside at the bar, the chicken in a basket was amazing. The pub appeared to be well decorated and the pint of Dizzy Blonde that I had tasted spot on. The main courses arrived quickly despite it being a busy day. Afterwards I indulged in a gin and found a larger than expected selection. Overall a very good lunch experience and I will be returning. The staff were very friendly so I can't understand the negativity on previous posts!

First course soup ok pate no toast when it did come it was burnt. Main course took over an hour to come.2 Sunday roast served with cold vegetables Whitebait served with calamari even when told that calamari was not wanted. replaced whitebait limp not crispy.

We visited this pub as a group of ten and booked fairly late on. Despite this, we couldn't have been more welcomed. The service was excellent and the food (that we had preordered) was delicious. They liked after us all very well and we wouldn't hesitate to return our recommend to others. Another bonus was the excellent garden and sandpit, which entertained the children wonderfully!

We stayed here the night of the 22nd February 2019. The moment we entered the pub we were warmly welcomed by a member of staff and shown to our room.

Had read great reviews about the Egerton Arms. Decided to take my daughter for lunch to here for the first time. Was seen to at the bar by one of the waiters who told me to find a seat in the bar. A couple arrived straight after and were provided with a guided tour by the same waiter. They were offered a table in the restaurant, shown the specials board and made to feel welcome, something which I certainly hadn’t. Ended up paying nearly £9 for cheese covered chips and was totally disappointed by mine, and my daughters first and what will probably be only visit

A country pub in lovely surroundings With warm and friendly staff, lots of choice on the menu and superb food. We really had a relaxed and enjoyable evening and now feeling satiated and happy. We can highly recommend a visit.

I loved the edgerton friendly local country pub with style ...now a confusing place with no atmosphere...bar staff dont know there drinks nor how to serve ...off duty staff in scruffs serving themselves bright lighting no homley coal fires in winter what has happened...sname shame shame l am heartbroken ..please change back......

We came across this Country pub inn when looking for some where to stop for a family wedding nearby i'm glad we did from the time we rang up to book nothing was to much trouble when we arrived we made are self know to the bar staff and even though it was a busy night we was shown to our rooms straight away which were clean tidy very pleasant indeed a quick tour round the inn and shown how to get back in after everyone has gone to bed the pub was very clean food being served looked great & smelled fantastic local knowledge was very good we got to our wedding venue very easy a good night was had by all, then in the morning we got to try the breakfast wow I would come just to have the breakfast for me the best part of my stay. food service was quick nothing was to much trouble for this lovely country inn we will be back hopefully to spend more time and relax in such great surroundings ten out of ten

I came last week by myself for a quick lunch before going out and I couldn’t be more impressed. The most gorgeous setting with really really friendly staff who checked how my food was. The service was really quick and the pricing of the food is very reasonable.

Would never recommend this place. The service was at best very poor, when receiving our steaks which we asked to be cooked medium they came out well done, no staff member returned to see if everything was ok with our meals. Also on the next table there were 3 elderly ladies who had been served only half of their food, half way through eating their lunch I asked if they would like me to ask where their vegetables were as I could hear them complaining that no staff member had been back to check on them or bring them the rest of their food. When we went to pay for the meals which we did not eat we respectfully told the manager/chef about the steaks which me and my partner had left. The manager/chef became very rude and told me and my partner if we didn’t like their food then to leave and never return. Customer service is absolutely SHOCKING and I would never return even to feed my dog.

Pub looked nice, tables were clean and the menu was varied. I ordered butternut squash and goats cheese lasagne and my husband ordered the special, lamb hot pot.

I enjoyed my stay at Everton Arms. Ash and Lezanne are very helpful. Bed was cozy and breakfast tasty. I even got to see the 2000 year old tree across the road!

Outstanding food and staff were brilliant and helpful great customer service and a variety of beers wines spirts Oh and the gin would recommend it to family and friends the lamb and mint pie is a must mash and veg and gravy
