What a lovely clean place this is. The food was very good and the staff are very friendly and professional. I can highly recommend Eats cafe.

Staying in Newcastle last week had a few meals in here beef roast, beef stew and dumplings and mince and dumplings all home cooked food, the staff are all pleasant and keep the place running smoothly, will be back on our next visit to Newcastle…..

First time I've been there with my husband food is amazing all home cooked I got a turkey dinner and hubby got mince and dumplings all freshly cooked and homemade will definitely go back really enjoyed our meal and good staff and atmosphere

Not a customer friendly place and you're not allowed to share a pot of tea with someone which is abnormal, this is kind of miserable cafe feel like you've overpaid and been in terms of low quality

Food isn't great and you're not allowed to share a pot of tea with someone which is just ridiculous, buy your own or get out attitude. I've already paid for the pot, all I'd need is another cup. It's the same amount of tea.. this is a cafe you leave feeling like you've overspent and been mugged in terms of quality and friendliness

Great café, lovely staff and food. Only minor downside is it can be cold in the Grainger Market in winter, so wrap up. Worth it.

Service was good I wanted mince and dumplings but they didn't have any left it its a really big place nice style and seating had pie and vegtabels it's even better becuse it under the class roof the cheese cake was really nice lemon cheese cake the food was ok

1st time visit here with 2 family members & impressed. We had a cheese & ham toastie & it came with a side salad , coleslaw & crisps . Nice big pot of tea & great service & smiling staff . Definitely recommend 5 ⭐️

Visited with today with a friend for Lunch. A surly and sullen waitress barked "You know what you want?" I asked if the vegetable soup was made with vegetable stock or chicken stock (I'm vegetarian and I know a lot of places use Chicken stock) The waitress rolled her eyes, glared at me and snapped at me, "It's vegetable soup what do you think, its vegetable!" I politely explained my reason for asking and again she just glared at me. She must have heard me complaining to my friend as suddenly a whole attitude change. The soup was nice and coffee was hot. Good portions. Probably won't return and would not recommend. If you are a regular and don't ask anything of the staff they are polite and friendly. If you are a first time or need anything different expect to be snapped at

This is a great café to have breakfast, brunch or lunch inside the Grainger Market. Lovely staff, good service, very close and friendly. Super good food not only cakes but main courses like roast pork and roast beef dinner. Beautiful salad and soup. Great prices. Very recommended.

We have been coming here for years & the food is great here. Staff are not so good most of them are miserable looked rushed if their feet most of the time it’s a busy place I asked for some butter on my jacket potato & they said it’s already put in I asked if I can have some more as the jacket potato was dry the staff said it’s 30p extra which was fine but the attitude of the staff was not what you expected in a place like this where your a customer & just asking for something extra this kind of service should not happen to any customers the owner of the place is nice but she needs to train her staff how to conduct with customers as it’s her business that matters . I think reviews are important to give as it makes people aware of it’s not always great in a place where you get treated like this🙄

Just had breakfast at Cafe Eats in the Grainger market. What a day & night difference to The Mayfair, friendly & prompt service, good food, felt welcomed. Compared to The Mayfair experience yesterday, folks forget your fancy places & staff whos priority is looking good, support local and great places like the Grainger market. 🫶

Brilliant cafe, we had an extremely large brie and grapes baguette and a pork loin dinner with mash and veg, really good food, great service, busy and lively place. Love it.👍⚒️

Why have I never discovered this fantastic cafe before!! Today I enjoyed stew with a dumpling for lunch. It was served with a crunchy roll and butter, was piping hot and very filling. I found the atmosphere in the cafe so friendly from staff to clientelle , that I will most certainly return. It is also kept spotlessly clean.

Staff seemed uninterested, food was bland and eggs like rubber.

In Grainger Market and fancied brunch so popped in. Service from friendly staff within 2 minutes, tea brought within 5 mins and quiche & bacon sarnie there within 10 minutes. Daz happy as asked for crispy bacon and that's what he got. Quiche was good and came with crisps and plenty of salad but could have had new potatoes. Only problem is as it's pretty open it was cold but it is November so just keep your coat on 🙂

Like many have said unfriendly staff unless you a regular pluse the waitress make you pay before get you food then she forgot to bring my bacon sandwich and when she did when a brought it to her attention it was clay cold as it had be left standing pluse bacon was cheap and saltey not be going back again

Delicious and good value. I was here looking for some genuine food rather than a plastic wrapped lunch. Each meal was tasty and full of flavour...including the sandwiches, stew and soup. It is more a working man's lunch stop than a fashionable cafe. The portions were plentiful and every morsel was eaten. The service was efficient and friendly. And food was served quickly. Just brilliant. Just wish I had time to try the chocolate cake and custard...

Stopped here while wandering around the market. Nice people. Nice apple pie. Nice cuppa and latte. No complaints!

Unfriendly staff staff had bad attitude

This is 3rd time I have been here to eat and it's the best place to have bacon poach egg on toast . The bacon is so crispy and eggs are perfect .:)

Pleasant open plan cafe in the Grainger Market. We enjoyed a great breakfast with nice tea. There is full table service and the staff were very pleasant and attentive.

Me encanta el mercado de Grainger y decidí probar este café por primera vez. Había una excelente opción de menú y ciertamente estaba muy ocupado. Disfruté de un bap de salchicha y champiñones y una muy buena taza de té. El único aspecto negativo fue que me sentí como si me sentaran en un tazón de peces dorados a veces con tan cerca de los transeúntes, y tuvimos que esperar un poco para ser atendidos ya que estaba muy ocupado, sin embargo, en general, fue de gran valor.

Almorzamos hoy en este café de espacio abierto en Grainger Market. No es "lujoso" pero es realmente sabroso. I don't know how anybody can say staff are not friendly or the food is awful i have never had a bad meal and staff are very friendly

Called in here for Saturday morning breakfast. We had a very nice full English with toast and a bacon sandwich + tea. Thoroughly enjoyed it and served by very pleasant staff. All of this for £8.75.

Excellent service tasty food cakes etc i brought one cake from here ate it while outside it was just beautiful made ended up buying five cakes and eating them back on the coach ive never tasted cakes so good. My friend had a cake from me we went back twice to buy cakes from this place. The quality and the taste outstanding. If i could have brought more cakes from here i would but we only had a set time in Newcastle before going back to the hotel. I will be back to Newcastle and buying and eating more cakes from you. So well made outstanding. Amazing staff to very friendy very nice member of staff. Thank you and i wish you well in your business

Sin pretensiones, café de mercado con buena comida básica que incluye la carne picada y las bolas de masa abundantes y sabrosas con puré de patata real y muchas verduras frescas. Bienvenida y muy buena relación calidad-precio. Esté preparado para hacer cola en las horas punta. Puede ser un poco frío en invierno, pero prefiero eso a estar en un ambiente sobrecalentado, tapado (¡en ambos sentidos de la palabra!).

Great customer service found seat and they took order at table and food was lovely and hot fast service.

Service at this cafe is very friendly, we enjoyed some very tasty beverages and had a seat in the seating area.

The food here is excellent value, but more important is excellent quality and lots of it. You pay when ordering so when you have finished you can leave straight away, this is a good system as there are not enough table at times so it keeps waiting time down.

Unfriendly staff, poor quality food. And bad manners. They ask you to pay before serving you. They don't accept changes in the breakfast. No ice in the tap water when asked for it

This place is always busy, which is usually a good sign. Went in and had a lovely cheese scone - it was huge, fresh and very reasonable at only £1.50. Service was quick, prices good, a good sized seating area.

Me pareció bastante difícil conseguir una mesa aquí en Cafe Eats en el mercado de Grainger, pero después de una breve espera uno quedó vacante. La camarera fue rápido para limpiar y el servicio fue bueno durante todo. Hay un menú razonablemente extenso de lo que podría describirse como 'comidas de café' y mi chaqueta de patata no fue decepcionante. Era una patata de buen tamaño, bien cubierta con queso y venía con una pequeña ensalada y col en el lateral. Pensé que era muy buena relación calidad-precio en comparación con muchos de los restaurantes de la ciudad. Estás en un entorno de mercado bullicioso que está bien si estás feliz de no obtener una vista exterior y puede ser genial allí en invierno. Definitivamente regresaría.

Not our first visit & not our last, always good well cooked food, good size portions too, the beef mince & dumplings was excellent.

What can I say staff seriously need to crack a smile. They may good with regular customers but not so much with new ones and the fact they can see you are seated but it takes them an age to come and take your order unless like I say your a regular

He estado en el mercado de Grainger varias veces cuando en Newcastle eligió comer porque vinieron y tomaron su pedido en la mesa, que no es el caso en otros cafés en el mercado. Algunos piden en el mostrador y luego intentan encontrar una mesa que puede ser difícil a la hora del almuerzo para una persona que come sola. Buen servicio, precios justos y la calidad del tocino fue realmente delicioso. Así que disfruté la experiencia.

Orden tomado muy rápidamente y la comida servida rápidamente, pero podía haber sido más caliente. Mi carne stottie tenía una cantidad generosa de carne, pero por desgracia la salsa no fue bueno. Mi hijos en granos tostadas dijo era deliciosa, pero un pequeño helipng frijoles. Todos dijeron un almuerzo bien para el precio, pero eso es todo.

I was astonished to find that they have increased the prices of a tea-cake and either a coffee or a tea from £2 up to £2.75 this is far too big an increase and will certainly stop my wife and I from going there again and judging from the empty seats we have witnessed this week we are not the only ones

My fiance is from Newcastle and regularly ate here with his Man and Gran, he took me here on my first visit to Newcastle Feb 2012 (I lived in Norfolk) for the famous 'Hot Beef Stottie'it was delicious! And still is 3 years later! We celebrated our 4 year anniversary here Wednesday just gone (both live in Norfolk now, visited family) My fiance had the stootie and I had the coronation chicken jacket potato and both a veg soup, was all scrumptious :) staff are great too.

mash potato was watery /veg cold to Luke warm/plate swimming in gravy to make it look as if you are getting a large portion /cup for the tea must have been one of the smallest cups i'v seen in a cafe and the tea was not that hot

Decidimos probar este café en lugar de nuestro Cine favorito regular (Tyneside Cafe), pedimos dos grandes capuchino y un bollo de frutas. El bollo era como anunciaban, fresca, que era muy sabroso y lo recomiendo, sin embargo, el capuchino dejaba mucho que desear, sabía como un débil vía láctea el agua, y no un parche en nuestra habitual favorito.

Noticed this very busy eatery while in Grainger Markets. Perused the menu and then waited until a table became available. Escorted to the table and efficient waitress must have noticed that we read the menu as she asked if we were ready to order or would like a little more time. Noted our order and then, "wonders," told us the cost without recourse to a cash register or calculator and she was 100%.. No evident table numbering but meals were delivered promptly and correctly by various staff. Super efficient and pleasant - many restaurants could take note!! Tasty great value meals, in fact a steal for the price paid. Just wonderful!!!

Set in the main part of the Grainger Market, this cafe offers good, wholesome food that leaves you satisfied and contented. I go regularly and love the traditional English dinners, all of which are delicious. Today I had the most marvelous strawberry cream tart, which put Greggs to shame. The staff are friendly and the service good. Great value for money and worth waiting for a table as it gets busy.

I call here for coffee every time I am in town. They serve a great cup of coffee and offer a discounted refill. The prices are very good and the coffee and cake price combinations are great value for money. I have never had a hot meal here but I have watched a full cafe of customers enjoying their food. It is table service here, which I like and the staff many who are long time served are friendly polite and efficient.The cafe being open situated in the historic market offers a great people watching opportunity of the hustle and bustle about.I would call this a people's cafe... It offers a great menu range at reasonable prices, without any pretetions. Excellent quality and service.

I've eaten here twice now and have enjoyed it both times. The waitress we spoke to on both times was nice and friendly. I'd recommend having a Cornish pasty, they're so nice that I had two.

Situated in the Grainger Market, this good little cafe.Myself and my husband had to wait for a table at lunchtime, which to me is a good sign. The staff were very polite, and soon cleared and cleaned the table. I had a Jacket potato with beans, hubby had a bacon sandwich. The food was well presented, good quality food. All food was very reasonably priced, good sized portions. What a busy place. They do toasties, sandwiches, scones, jacket potatoes, soup and a roll, also giant yorkshire puds filled which looked delicious, and many more dishes. Well worth a try.

Came here on my own for a quick but hot lunch. It's table service and you pay the waiter when ordering. I liked that as no messing around afterwards. I ordered the jacket potato with cheese and beans. It was a hearty size and tasty enough. The beans had clearly been in the saucepan for a while (it was gone 2pm) but fortunately, that's how I like them. The side salad was decent enough, nothing remarkable and the service was good. Glad the waiters didn't pester me. Cost £4.30 which I think is a little dear for a spud but no complaints. As I say, good enough.

You have to have beef stew in giant Yorkshire pud - absolutely FAB!! One of "the must haves" when in Newcastle.

First trip we had Shepard lamb pie. Delicious. So good we went back and had the Steak and kidney pie. Also delicious. Service great, and waiter very friendly. Loved how everybody talked to everybody. Would love to return.

There was a short wait for a table in the historic arcade. Staff were quick to take our order, I had a fantastic beef & stottie (a type of bread bun) at £3.50, my wife had a beef stew & dumplings (there was a lot of it and it was also cheap). Even the drinks were good, the cranberry juice is highly recommended. There were also specials available for example roast beef dinner also at a cheap price. The quality and price of the food would make us visit often but we live in Kent. We highly recommend this café and will visit whenever we are in Newcastle.

When you have to queue for a table, you guess its good.Firstly though I have to say that this is 'homely' foodWe had a gorgeous vegetable soup, which we could have had dumplings in, but opted for the chunk of crusty bread. This was really tasty veg soup, that needed no additional salt or pepper, and was served very hot. It was a big bowl-main course proportions. I gave a third of mine to him indoors!We then had roast beef stottie. This was lovely flavoured beef served in a stottie, with gravy. Really tasty meat.With a pot of tea each the cost was £17.We watched other peoples food:Toad in the hole was a teaplate size yorkshire pud with 3 sausages and gravy . The pie and mash looked to die for, and the beef dinner was a big chunk of beef with veg and mash.Like I say this is homely food, pub grub, its not your upper class restaurant, but neither is the price. And really for flavour I don't think it could be beaten.The waitress service was second to noneIm told I should explain what a stottie is for non Geordies: Its a large teaplate size very flavoursome (a bit like ciabatta) breadbun

My Cousin and I are, what might be called Regulars. We pop in for morning coffee breaks, sometimes with food, a couple of times a week, when we are in town. We have been doing this for some years now.The experience one obtains is that of a family gathering. The staff are all polite, friendly, chatty, whilst being fast and efficient. It is something of a difficult standard to obtain, and maintain, but somehow the staff at EATS manage it.The quality of the Food and Service is superb, while the cost is very economic. For its type of establishment, no one could ask for anything more. A definite 10 out of 10.Mike and Richard C.

Wow ! In Newcastle for a couple of days and we needed a sit down and a drink. We had a quick look at the menu and as it was nearly lunchtime decided to have the stottie between us. We were not disappointed, plenty of tender beef smothered in a rich gravy served in a stottie. Very filling and just what we needed all washed down with a pot of tea.

So, myself and my partner decided to stop by here for some breakfast and a drink. We sat down eventually (it was very busy), had our food and drinks order taken within 5 minutes, and waited. We ordered the Deluxe Hot Chocolate. It was HUGE! Well worth the price. I'd recommend it!. I ordered a sausage, bacon and egg bap (scrambled egg is the only option) and that was lovely. I also had a scone with butter and jam and the scone was delicious!My partner also enjoyed all of her food (sausage bap and scone).We were pleasantly surprised and we'll most certainly be back for a cheap lunch!

Disappointed that staff are allowing people to Smoke Electronic cigarettes in the cafe, some of theses E Cigarettes have a horrible woody smell, I am recovering from lung cancer and have chronic asthma, these E Cigarettes affect my breathing and make my chest tight, hope Eats Management are going to change there smoking policy Before we return.The food and drinks are exelent, never had a complaint up until now, Rogann

Great cafe, great food and great staff.Food is lovely, well presented and tastes wonderful, plenty of choice to choose from on menu, perfect to fit everyone's taste. Staff are amazing, always serve customers with a smile, cannot fault this cafe at all, just a wonderful place to go for a bite to eat.

This colourful coffee shop has been there for some years now and is alway busy, so it must be good, food is always super fresh well the have all the veg suppliers in the Grainger for supplies. My favourite dish the free range egg baguettes sandwich, my mouth is even drooling at the thought. I must go in soon.

What a surprise, a simple little cafe in the Grainger Arcade market in Newcastle. I order a pot of tea and this so cute cup with a tea pot on the top arrived. I mentioned to the waitress this is a great idea a warm cup warmed by the tea pot on top. We both agreed that our grandparents used to always demand a warmed cup for the perfect cup of tea. Excellent!

We visit Newcastle about 3 -4 times a year for a days shopping, we always start in the Grainger Market as it's great for a good rake around. But we never leave without having a late brekkie/brunch at Eats. My hubby usually gets a bacon sarnie and my daughter and I always have one of their amazing cakes, with coffees and juice, the bill is never more than £10 which is fantastic value. It's great to sit and watch the world go by, we can't wait to go again.

Eats cafe is in the heart of The Grainger Market which in turn is in the heart of the city. Not an obvious place to find a delicious light lunch but worth searching out. I tried soup & a sandwich, it was perfect, delicious homemade vegetable soup, made the waitress told me, that day with vegetables bought in the market. My wife had a huge plate of ham salad which pleased and satisfied her diet. Lovely friendly staff & a great spot for people watching the market users. If your in the city it's well worth visiting even just for a cup of their delicious coffee
