Our favourite bar/restaurant. Love their cocktails and theres amazing service. The roof top is excellent and indoor decor is very tasteful. Theres comfortable seating indoors and heating on the outside. terrace. The food is extremley tasty. I Highly recommend Barluga

Dreadful and disappointing. We are frequent customers bringing both business colleagues , employees and family for networking and celebrations. On this occasion it was to celebrate my wife's birthday together with our 2 children ( in their 30s) and we do this every year this week. Last year we were allocated the most ridiculous small round table only suitable for 2 diners. I made my feelings known however this fell on deaf ears by the tall bald manager who didn't seem to care. So this year I specifically booked over 4 weeks ago and requested to have a larger table on the upper floor. We always make a special day of it having a bottle of Lauren perrier and a dozen oysters to start, a 3 courcs meal, wine and cocktails so the postage stamp of a table is impossible. Anyway satisfied that I had booked a proper and suitable table on this occasion we were looking forward to the day. However on arrival the very same tall bald fella began to show us to the VERY SAME tiny table we had last time!!, on telling him what I had booked and expected he just shrugged his shoulders and told me we could not go upstairs and that is all they had. I expressed my dissatisfaction politely and was then offered a bigger table however this was in the middle of the bar area and right next to the entrance door. Subsequently we had to concede to have the tiny 2 seater table for the 4 of us and make the best of a bad job. This is where the fun began as we had to completely clear the table putting condiments, bottles etc on the floor so we could fit plates of food on the table ( inc our champagne bucket which subsequently got knocked over spilling a quarter of a bottle over the carpet). Madness!!!. The food was generally OK, however EVERY one of the oysters had grit and bits of shell in them. We did not bother with desert as we were all so deflated at this point. We paid the bill(gave our server a generous cash tip as she did her very best to cheer us up) and left for more drinks elsewhere. We will never be returning in any capacity. BAR LUGA sort yourself out otherwise you will be losing many more customers in these challenging time

Lovely evening, great good and service was very attentive. Very reasonably priced. Will be back.

Me and my friend went today for Sunday dinner and drinks. It was amazing. Two courses for 22 pounds is really great value. The staff were so friendly and I would highly recommend it to anyone

Just popped in for a spot of lunch as the restaurant here is on ground level as my wife is partially blind. On entering the staff were very attentive, guided my wife to here seat & explained the choices from the menu's. The food & wine was excellent, the chief even cut up my wife's Steak for her...The staff are very friendly and helpful nothing was to much bother for them .totally recommend a visit here.. 5 ⭐..

We loved the ambience, range of drinks, fabulous staff and the patio heaters at the Barluga Terrace. The outdoor decor is lovely too with lots of plants and grasses. The Hugo cocktail was our favourite! Will definitely be returning. Thank you.

We visit at least once a month for drinks on the outside terrace and never disappoints. The staff are amazing so observant! Keep up the good work ladies and gents 😊

We love barluga sitting on the terrace, the steak sandwich and chips is fantastic, service is good and atmosphere is good 👍

After a long day we called in here for a drink and a meal. We both had the fish and chips and it was amazing. Totally hit the spot.. Never had a bad experience here.

Called in for cocktails on a Friday evening, very surprised to see the place relatively empty. Got a very nice espresso martini but didn't stay for a second drink as there was zero atmosphere. Shame as the bar staff were really friendly. Wished we'd stayed at Harry's up the top of the street.

One star because of failure to enforce laws on smoking on terrace. Disgusting having to eat with cigarette and cigar smoke wafting over you. Informed staff and failed to handle situation. Won't be back

I like to think of this bar as my favourite “go to”. Whether it’s busy, or dead, me and a group of friends are there without fail 2-3 times a week. Tonight, I called to see what time last orders for food was to be told 20:45. We got there just in time and were seated at a table to be told by a member of staff that we couldn’t eat as they were “too busy serving larger tables”. The manager then asked us to “prove that we called”. We decided to leave at this point. We are here without fail during your quiet periods and we always spend quite a lot! Well that was the last time we’ll be there let me tell you. As for your proof of the call, here it is.

Turned up Saturday afternoon which was a warm day. Thought it would be nice to sit outside. Went to the outside seating area which was busy but there was seats available. As we got to the entrance a young man with a clip board asked if we had a reservation which we did not. This is fair enough so we left only to watch as 5 young ladies just walked in without being challenged and milled around until they found a seat. Probably as we were 4 middle aged men we don't suit the aesthetic.

Unfortunately we were bitterly disappointed with our lunches today. The Greek salads ordered had no olives, red onion, cucumber, and only one tiny tomato per bowl. The Caesar salad lacked the same salad ingredients as above plus the anchovies were absent !, which effectively came down to a bowl of salad leaves, with a few croutons for £14, until.the chicken was added for a further £4. A minimal amount was deducted from our bill which does not really reflect the amount of vital.missing ingredients. I would like to think this could be looked into further & a successful conclusion for regular customers made. Thank you.

Fantastic from start to finish. We are regular visitors to Barluga and we are never disappointed. We visited twice this week and we loved it both times. Would recommend the Fritto Misto, prawn & crab linguine, king prawn Thai green curry, beef Sunday roast… I could go on. Well done for brilliant food and service. Always a pleasure.

I recently had a great night out at Barluga and wanted to give a shout-out to our amazing waiter, Roberta. From the moment we walked in, she made us feel super welcome with her friendly smile and easy-going vibe.

Barluga has always been my favorite bar in Newcastle, however disappointed today, I have to say. The service was extremely poor, we requested to change table and once agreed had to move everything ourselves to the new table, when we arrived we were not even offered the food menu. The Calamari starter was microscopic not sure what’s happening with this bar.

Service was fantastic. Food was bland.

Excellent all-round, friendly staff welcome at the door, rooftop space to chill under the canopy and heated areas, table service well worth a look 🍻

Top bar. I've drank here for nigh on twenty years, though perhaps not so frequently the last two or three. I'm on Guinness and Camden's pretty much, and those drinks are well poured. Don't expect any shrapnel from a fiver for a pint. It's arguably due another refurb, but the newer outside seating is great for what little orange ball in the sky action we have. EDIT August 21: Certain female door staff are absolutely not welcoming. This has been noted by myself and other colleagues this last few weeks. My above review still stands by the way. EDIT January 23: I barely hit 'luga last year because I don't drink in town so much. Last night I returned for a private party on the mezzanine. The quality of canapés and service was bang on. Yes, drinks prices are sky high but the the rest was definitely impressive. This comes at a fair old price I heard, but I'd recommend it.

Went for drink and offered menu, said to the waitress I wasn't sure but checked to see if there was anything I fancied. Made my choice but no-one came to the table and I was there at least 45 mins drinking my wine which I have to say was brought quickly.. When paying explained and was told 'people had rang in sick, start of the busy season. Lunch on a Monday?? Been a few times before when busy with at least another person and was served promptly, not too sure what happened today.

Manager very rude upstairs in the terrace. Will never go back and be talked too so rudely. Only asked if they had any spare tables.

Amazing Food, service and Atmosphere! One of the very best Sunday dinners I've had.

Visited Saturday 4th May. We were served by Holly who was outstanding with her customer service. Keep hold of her Barluga she is an asset to the company. Food beautiful too x

Food was amazing, cocktails were lovely but the best part of our visit was our server named Lauren, she was the most pleasant, polite and professional young girl we have ever met! She mos definitely made our customer experience exceptional, a credit to the vaulkard Group ! Will recommend this place as a must for a Sunday lunch with staff that go above and beyond.

Excellent food as usual. I took my in laws and they were very impressed.

Had Christmas lunch here and while it was nice and looked lovely, there wasn’t much of it. If you want to pay a fortune for very little food, this is the place for you. On the bright side the staff were lovely and really attentive.

Myself and hubby had a great time here. Sat on the upstairs terrace, great atmosphere, music and drinks.

Came here as part of a group night out, starter was lovely but I was disappointed with the main. Staff we dealt with were lovely, very friendly and interested in talking to the group. Great music in the background, loud enough to hear it but not so loud you couldn't have a conversation.

Went with 2 friends today/ one vegan and she ordered vegan pie, I ordered chicken pie and other friend ordered fish. She got my pie and I got vegan. I chose not to have line replaced as I had already lost appetite and didn’t want to wait any longer to eat .the fish was good, the replaced vegan pie was good, I did without anything. If it had been busy, mistakes happen and are easily explained. When it’s quiet, no real excuses especially when really with vegan meals. My friends had come from Huddersfield and I’d said how nice it was so after the mistake I felt like an idiot for vouching for the place. Everything was dealt with quickly but I felt there wasn’t exactly a decent apology for the error. It’s put me off going back or referring which is a shame as I’ve been using the place for 15 years plus. Mistakes happen but shouldn’t when dealing with vegan meals but when they do, at least apologies enough to be sincere. Such a shame to get such a lack of care after a long term user of bar/restaurant

We go there quite often. We were there for a Christmas lunch. The service was very good and the staff were very pleasant and couldn't have been more helpful. The food was really good, as usual. We all had a great time and will be back soon.

Would definitely eat here again! I have been for drinks in the past but decided to try the food. Everyone really enjoyed their food, portions were good, drinks came quickly. It was my dads birthday so I asked the waitress if they could bring a dessert out after our meals with a candle in I’d brought, they wrote “happy birthday” on the plate which was a really nice touch. Our server was so nice, the name on the receipt is Annabel so I’m assuming that is who served us.

One of the best bars in Newcastle, great drinks selection roof terrace out back is lush just a fantastic bar.

Hubby's 60th, nephew's 30th and brother in law's 62nd birthdays within 4 days brought us here on a Saturday afternoon. Not busy at 1pm but heaving by 3! We sat on the terrace which was huge and on 2 levels with plenty if seating and welcome heaters. Servers were lovely and very patient as a couple of people kept changing their mind with food order 🤨 I had a fish finger sarnie and Daz had chicken burger and chips which were both tasty and filling. Prawn gambas, fish and chips and tempura prawns were also sampled by our party of 9 with the most amazing truffle and parmesan chips. Really enjoyable

Spent a lovely sunny weekday afternoon here. Staff were really friendly and service was spot on. Food was very good and not too expensive considering the nice setting and atmosphere. Will definitely be back next time we're in Newcastle

Visit 19/08/23 No food just drinks, been going here on and off since mid 2000s, fairly upper class based on placement, but I like to think I'm upper class sometimes, they do table service even though we sat next to the bar, I always find this awkward especially when leaving, around £14 for a pint and large white wine seems about average. I like the bar, not much changed but it seemed dark

16.10 on a Friday afternoon and the place is empty, however the “ex doctors receptionist” has turned away numerous customers as they don’t have a reservation and she has no room. Been away a while but it’s not what it used to be.

I thought that Barluga was a decent place to meet with friends for a mid-afternoon drink. The door staff were welcoming, there was a reasonable selection of drinks and the atmosphere was vibrant. Very pleasant indeed.

Staff were rude, service was slow and place lacks atmosphere.

Can’t beat a cheeky cider and cocktail combo on the terrace. Service a tad slow waited about 25 minutes for drinks.

Had Sunday lunch and have to say totally let down with the food. Ordered the beef and it was certainly not the best and couldn't even cut through it as it was so tough. We expected a Sunday roast and we were given a steak which was not at all what we expected. Not nice at all I'm afraid.

We where in there last Sunday, a group of very loud woman, we hadn't been together as a family for a long time, my sister from Australia, my cousin from Dubai, 8 very vocal ladies, our meal was really good and the staff were very patient. Thank you so much, it was a lovely lunch 🌟

Just fabulous. I went with a friend, we were not sure where to go, pop in for a drink. The waitress came & took our order & we did what friends do & chat. The music was nice but not to loud. By then we spied the food been served & decided to stay. We were taken to our table by the same waitress, given a menu, & told what the special was, it was some beef (can quite remember the name), any way we ordered it & it was absolutly melting in the mouth!!! Had a pudding, just as nice & left. On if the best Saturday afternoon, in a long, long time. It was & is as nice as ever. Very good sevice, excellent food & this time we sat outside on the terrace. I didn't know it was there, on a summer day, it's refreshing, there's a nice breeze, & it feels as if you are abroad instead of the centre of Newcastle, & it feels more relaxing. Lovely.

What a fantastic place. Went for lunch with my friend Sandra. We sat outside on the roof terrace in the sun. We both had the Thai yellow king prawn curry washed down with a bottle of wine. It was delicious. By far the nicest place we've been to eat in Newcastle.

Got a spot in the shade on the roof terrace without a booking, very lucky. The staff were very accommodating and the table service was spot on.

The young tall slim gentleman who served me was nothing short of exemplary! If there is any kind of staff award/reward then this young man definitely must receive it! You need more staff like him

Gone here many times and always impressed by the beautiful scenery of the bar terrace. Usually the service is pretty poor and slow, but our latest visit included exceptional food and amazing customer service specifically from Niamh: friendly, well-versed in the menu/food and overall just lovely! Definitely the perfect choice for a Mediterranean-terrace vibe in Newcastle 😍

Went for a drink here yesterday and after seeing the food being brought out and all looking amazing, we decided to dine here too and it didn’t disappoint. The food was fantastic and we would definitely dine here again.

Called in on chance looking for a table and we were promptly seated. My friends have a rule that you can have anything on the menu as long as it contains steak! Two had sirloins, two had rump all cooked perfectly to our liking. Sides, sauces and chips were lovely. We've had our share of steaks in Newcastle and this is one of the best; whilst not breaking the bank. The service was excellent. We will definitely be back Thanks to the Barluga team for a lovely meal.

The roof terrace here is absolutely stunning. First visit but absolutely won't be my last.

Just chill out with a nice atmosphere, with friends or family, perfect place to grab food or drinks on any occasion. Bartenders and waiters there are especially lovely and you'll get the amazing treatment with a twist of class and quality. Would definitely recommend for the cocktails and quality food, Sunday roast is to die for. Would say the menu for cocktails and food is wide and there are many options based on your taste.
